learn to play half court | 10:47 a.m. Dec. 31, 2008
BYU needs to learn to play in the half court if it expects to give Wake a game, contend for the conf or ever win a tourney game. BYU's run and gun is fun to watch but their half court offense is torture. I'm shocked at how undisciplined they are in the half court. Cummard should be taking at least 50% of half court shots (his % speaks for itself). Also would like to see Archie Rose get more minutes since he brings the intangible hustle plays ... we don't need him for offense.

It is easy to not worry about tournament games when you lose to SW Baptist and Idaho State. Memo to Crimson Club the fat man is not on the hill he is gone and you are not getting the type of recruits that Majarus did. Good luck in the CBI tournament this year, if you make it! I hope you can continue to finish above Colorado State and not finish dead last in the conference!

PS we love the Marriot Center North.

Jesus does care about his basketball and football teams. That is why we (BYU) do so well, year after year.

Maybe we should stay away from a "Quest for Perfection" all together. We obviously aren't unstoppable and I'm not sure the Lord cares too much about basketball...are you sure you're not just a Ute fan?
re St George Fan | 11:04 a.m. Dec. 31, 2008
most of your comments were accurate except the part about BYU having a tougher non-conf schedule. Maybe you should look at Utah's schedule before commenting. I would love it if BYU played Gonzaga, LSU, Cal, Ole Miss, Oregon and Oklahoma.... BYU only has two decent non-conf fors in ASU and Wake. Based on the current RPI Utah has the 27th toughest schedule while BYU the 174th.

BYU needs to take a hard look at why they can't compete in the Tournament. It is embarassing, and one of the many reasons BYU Basketball doesn't get much national respect. Win Tourny games and BYU will start to get respect."

Has it really been 18 years since the last time BYU has won a Tournament Game? I find this hard to believe. Someone please give me the correct statistic.

Quest for Perfection baby!! BYU will be perfect in NCAA Tourny play. No doubt about it.
Quest for Perfection | 11:10 a.m. Dec. 31, 2008
It's our time and we can do it. I bodly predict that we will not lose a game from here on out. We will also run the Tourny. We will be number one. Living right off the court has its advantages. Maybe the Utes should follow our example.

Hey try to get out of the first round of the CBI this year. If you can somehow finish above .500, maybe you will bet the NIT bid you are hoping for.
To Crimson Club | 11:53 a.m. Dec. 31, 2008
BYU's last NCAA tourney win was actually back in 1993, but your point is well taken.

Before talking about getting respsect, as if Utah had any, you guys might want to try getting back to the tourney some day.
UNLV | 12:28 p.m. Dec. 31, 2008
I take back my earlier comment. UNLV will crush BYU in the tournament. Wink goes for 30 and Darger for 20.
Mr. BYU | 12:42 p.m. Dec. 31, 2008
Mr. UNLV....whatever! Darger is nothing special and Wink won't be able to carry the team. BYU will beat UNLV despite the great disadvantage of being on your home floor!
MWC | 12:51 p.m. Dec. 31, 2008
UNLV is about to hit it's stride, they recently killed a really good Arizona team, and are playing really good ball right now. Darger is the rebs fifth best player. UNLV has three guards better than BYUs best guard. More althlets, better defense and better coached. UNLV wins MWC, BYU second with San Diego St. third. Hopefully BYU can win a tourament game this year because you are hurting the conference, UNLV is carrying the MWC in basketball and Utah, TCU in football. Your poor post season showings do nothing but hurt the MWC

Put up or shut up...again | 1:09 p.m. Dec. 31, 2008
Once again, BYU has the opportunity to gain some national attention and respect. They are fortunate to get Wake Forest on their home floor. They've got to beat the big boys now if they want respect in March.

They've got the #6 team in the country. It is from the ACC which has a rich and deep heritage of success. If BYU wins, good for them.

Personally though, I think the home win streak is about to end. I hope BYU does well but I think Wake is going to crush them!
Who is Utah State? | 1:13 p.m. Dec. 31, 2008
Just so you guys know: NO ONE knows or cares about Utah St. outside of Utah. And by no one I mean N-O O-N-E. Sure, they had like two good tournament games like 56 years ago (it feels that long ago at this point), but I guarantee that no one knows or cares about them...at all.
Cougarowl | 1:15 p.m. Dec. 31, 2008
I LOL every time a Utah fan posts that BYU mens basketball wins are for naught, because they have not won a NCAA tournament game since.... The truth of the matter, in my opinion, is that they are trying unsuccessfully to paint over their resentment and misery of having the Cougars owning them lately on the hardwoods! I know personally, that I very much despise losing to the Utes in football or basketball. So Get real Utah fans; admit that every loss to the Cougars hurts badly and recognize that behind your sarcastic rationalizations therein lays the crux of the matter: that you are afraid of 2 more big hurts coming your way during this conference season!!
To: Quest for Perfection | 1:19 p.m. Dec. 31, 2008
Haven't you guys learned anything from the previous "Quest for Perfection" that made us the laughing stock of the sports world?

Stop saying the basketball team is on a Quest for Perfection. They aren't. They are a good team, but you are only asking for trouble and ridicule if you try to start another Quest for Perfection.

BYU NCAA tournament | 2:22 p.m. Dec. 31, 2008
Beating WAKE would go a long way towards seeding in the NCAA tournament. The last 4 NCAA games BYU played in they were the 12th seed twice and the 8th seed. I love the BYU haters saying how they get blown out and get embarrassed in the tournament. They DO compete, just need to finish like last night.

Lost to UCONN 58-53
Lost to Syracuse 80-75 Jerry McNamera's best game ever
Lost to Xavier 79-77 Cougs should have pulled this off
Lost to A&M 67-62 Cougs did not score in first 12 min.

They have been close. Also consider last year A&M had top seed UCLA on the ropes and lost by 2. The year before Xavier blew it to Ohio St in OT in a game they had won.

BYU can compete with the elite teams. They did beat Lousiville last year and had close losses to Mich St and NC.

If they pull it off Sat, then they set themselves up for a higher seed. Maybe a 4-6 seed. I think this is the first year they have the back court to advance.

Good luck. Good luck to all the MWC teams as well.

This quest for perfection commentary is coming from Ute Trolls that have nothing positive to say about their basketball program. It is much more fun for them to say that kind of stuff than comment on how bad their once proud program has fallen.

Considering how lucky Hill was to hire Urban Meyer, he has not done so hot at picking a new BB coach. Maybe the third time will be the charm.

Football and Basketball:

What, Utah has beaten BYU once in the past three years?

Utah went to the CBI last year, while BYU was "invited" at large to the NCAA's.

SBU, Idaho State, USU?

Why do you guys get on this board where people want to talk about BYU basketball and interject your little trollism's? Why embarass yourself, the school, and the Mighty "Ute Nation"?

Where is your life?
What is your life?
Do you know how lousy your basketball team is?
Do you know the whole football world is going to come crashing down on you?

Your little pithy comments are immature.

BYU is good (top 25)
Utah aint that bad.
Congrats to Utah and UNLV. (knocking off Louisville and Gonzaga).
Wyoming gave Utah State all they could handle. U

Utah state is a good team.

MWC is a good Conf.

WAC is not as good.

Utah state would be in the top 3-5 teams in the MWC.

I thinks UNLV & BYU are better than Utah State.

Gives the Utes credit for helping our MWC image by beating the ZAGS.

I hope BYU wins at SLC & UNLV. I am also a realistic fan and I know that is a tall order.

It's time for the Quest for Perfection in basketball. We live right off the court and that is why miracles happen on the court for us.
BYU FAN | 3:20 p.m. Jan. 2, 2009
I think the Lord cares more about individual players and people than who wins games. However, if an entire team is living right, why not believe they can receive some divine help? That obviously doesn't mean other teams won't win games, regardless of their personal lifestyle.

I think we in the LDS church need to be careful not to use the church and the BYU players as reason to think the Lord has preference as to who wins games/championships. If He did, obviously some people think BYU would have more championships than it does. Do you think, however, if a player from Notre Dame, for example, praised God for His help in winning a game, that he would be ridiculed? I'm tired of LDS players or fans being singled out as ignorant or rude for doing the same thing.

What it's really all about the learning/growing process and who these players become as people, regardless of how many games they win. Anybody see "Forever Strong?"
Blue Blood | 5:37 p.m. Jan. 2, 2009
Congrats to Utah on beating Gonzaga. It must feel good after they have lost to some very weak teams. I hope that BYU stays healthy and plays their best all year. They are strong in that they have great depth. If Cummard, Fredette, and Tavarnari are playing well, it will be difficult for other teams to beat them. Also, we love the great bench strength of BYU. Go Cougars!!!
