BYU FAN PRETENDING TO BE UA FAN | 8:20 p.m. Dec. 25, 2008
BYU WAS NOT THE TOUGHEST TEAM UA PLAYED THIS YEAR, NOT BY A LONG SHOT...AUSTIN COLLIES RECORD IS NOT A BIGGER STORY THAN UTAH GOING UNDEFEATED. STOP POSING AS A WILDCAT FAN ZOOBIE...
Re: Blue Korean | 8:29 p.m. Dec. 25, 2008
Please list the names of Utah football players (or those from any non-BYU school for that matter) that BYU has recruited but turned away due to academics. It will be a very, very short list. (Walk-ons don't count.)

As a Utah and Harvard grad who turned down BYU opportunities twice (the other school's program was superior in each case), I chuckle at the frequent claims of BYU's academic superiority. Granted it takes a solid high school record to gain admittance as a freshman but it gets old when those freshmen (and their emotional equivalents) blather on about their admittance as if it's an accomplishment in itself. Finish your degree, do something with your life, and then talk about accomplishment.

And please tell me why you didn't take that high-octane high school record of yours and attend an even more prestigious university? In the majority of cases, it's got nothing to do with the academics of the school. Nothing at all wrong with those reasons, but they hamstring your claims of superiority.

These observations aside, you are correct in suggesting that a 10-3 season is a fine season. In most years, either school would be pleased with such a record.

Unless you play for the teams you're talking about don't use "we" or "us" when talking about sports. Apparently Utah and BYU have about 1 million players on their teams. Go Utes! Best of luck in the Sugar Bowl.
Who Should Be Playing or Won | 9:51 p.m. Dec. 25, 2008
Cmon BYU fans quit living in "WHO SHOULD HAVE" Utah did beat TCU, Utah did Beat BYU, Utah did beat Oregon State, Utah did win the MWC, Utah did go 12-0 and Utah is playing Alabama. You are so jealous it is pathetic. Utah might lose to Alabama, however they will give it everything they have and all Utah fans will cheer them to the last second. We are going to win and what ever happens does. The bottom line is they made and BYU DIDN'T

ok i get it you all think bama is gonna rock us. you jump on their band wagon with all the little "go tide" and "roll tide roll" garbage.

so if utah gets slaughterd by a score of lets say 35-10 then what would happen to byu considering 48-24.

nuff said stop whining and wishing you were in our place your jealous and you cant believe your special season has ended up this way.

bama 21
utah 24 (king louie 56 yrd fg as time expires)

GO UTES BCS is TWICE as nice.
BAMA | 11:27 p.m. Dec. 25, 2008
i love the saying "Roll Tide" the only thing they ever roll is thier defense off the field after Tim Tebow runs them over... but they still easily win this game bama 35 utah 10 seriously people this is the SEC bigger, faster, stronger, they get better competition every week. But congrats to utah for even getting there at least they dont get beat by arizona
Re Blue Korean | 12:27 a.m. Dec. 26, 2008
you must be one of those arrogant do as I say, not as I do, hypocritical BYU fans with a superiority complex. Squeaking by teams is still winning, kind of like how you guys squeaked past Washington. You still must be sore after getting blown out by TCU and Utah and then embarrased in your bowl game. Talk about a team playing with no heart. With BYU's overall bowl record and their 1-21 record against top 25 opponents, I thought you guys would have got the hint that you really aren't that good. I guess getting into BYU must not be that hard since you guys aren't smart enough to figure out that your team is just average and has been for a long time.
Lee | 9:25 a.m. Dec. 26, 2008
PUHLEEEEEZE !!!!! What conference does Utah play in? I believe it to be the Mountain West. What conference does UA play in? That would be the SEC. Florida Gators square up for their 2nd run at the National Championship in 3 years. Last year? I believe that would be LSU. Utah takes the place of Hawaii in last year's Sugar Bowl. What was it the undefeated Pineapples from Hawaii got beat by? Wasn't it by about 6 touchdowns? By whom? UGA another SEC powerhouse. Utah may not even score.
Re: Re: Blue Korean | 8:29 p.m. | 9:28 a.m. Dec. 26, 2008
I concur whole heartedly. I've been listening to BYU people talk about academics for years. Yet, I've never understood how a degree in Family Life and many, many related disciplines at the Y stack up against Med School, Health Sciences, etc., etc., at the U and other institutions.

The people spewing that garbage are the same ones talking about BYU's upcoming football national championship. That non-sense is in full swing every spring.

I suppose that since the World is their Campus, they buy into the non-sense without question.
Story #3 | 9:36 a.m. Dec. 26, 2008
I invite you all to read the DN entry for the #3 top story this year. Thank you DN for making the pre-season BYU talk of a national championship / BCS bowl bid a matter of public record. 100 years from now a well meaning researcher will be able to look back and take note of how detached from reality BYU fans are.

"The Quest" certainly does rank right up there with the the state's best in 2008.

re:
"so if utah gets slaughterd by a score of lets say 35-10 then what would happen to byu considering 48-24."

I do not know of a person who went back and looked at everyone on Hawaii's schedule and said, they must be pathetic because they lost to Hawaii.

In the event of a blowout (35-10 would be respectful for the Utes -- I'm thing 50+ point loss) at the Splenda Bowl, the mediocre team that snuck by OSU, MI, TCU, UNM will thouroughly be exposed, and people across the country witll not be thinking how bad BYU is... They will be thinking "How did this team get into the BCS?

"nuff said stop whining and wishing you were in our place your jealous "

I am not jealous, nor wishing to be in your place. It's like wishing you were the gladiator going into the Roman Collusium to fight 30 Lions. Nobody ever sat there and said "I wish I could be Ripped up by Lions in front of everyone".

Anyone who watched Utah play this year understands how bad they really are, except dillusional Utah Fans.

You Utes are on your won on this one.

Bama 62-6.

I agree.

What a day to be a BYU fan. Sure, I'll pull for Utah, but I do think I will never get over how bad the Utes are going to be crushed. the look of humiliation on Kyle's face, the fans that paid $3000 to see their Utes embarassed by a real team on ESPN. Priceless memories.

The big old thick and juicy slice of Humble Pie the Utes will be eating is a memory that will last forever. And knowing that BYU will make money of the Utes humiliation... sweet.

No one watching the bowl will see blue, they will only see Ute crimson, and think what a lousy team. If it at all refelect on BYU, people will be saying "BYU and TCU must have had bad days against Utah, because this team is terrible".

Nope, I expect nothing but good memories from the "Splenda Bowl", the Sugar bowl tarnished by a bad Utah team.

This game, will bring dishonor on the Ute Nation, and I feel sorry for the Utes allowing themselves to be mascots.
Re: Splenda Bowl | 3:02 p.m. | 3:42 p.m. Dec. 26, 2008
BYU embarrassed the entire MWC but no one received a dime for it.

Thanks again, BYU. Maybe next year you can step up and take some responsibility for the reputation of the conference.
re:re:Splenda Bowl | 4:04 p.m. Dec. 26, 2008
I don't think people around the country were worried about the conference based upon the play of the tird place team.

They want to see our "Conference Champion" play to see how good the conference is.

Bowl money is spit around the conference, so yes, Utah will recieve money from BYU. You are welcome, going back 40 years when Utah never played in Bowls.

I don't know, Utah plays basketball on national TV, and Drca trips an All American. Boylen plays at Utah State and flips the posession arrow off the table. SBU, ISU... 6-5 on the year.

Maybe THIS year you can step up and take some responsibility for the reputation of the conference.(Sorry, I sorta borrowed that from your post)

Get the football massacre out of the way (embarassment to conference), then have you basketball team play "clean" with some integrity, and start winning some games, even the patsie tune-up games at the HC (embarrassing, embarassing, embarassing).

Your negative behavior, losing, and classness is demeaning to the Proud Ute Nation. Maybe you should get a mascot you can't embarass more than "they" already have, like the fighting OJ Simpons, or the Utah Rod Blagojevichs...
re re re splenda bowl | 5:35 p.m. Dec. 26, 2008
"Negative behavior, losing, and classness" eh? You mean like when your Max Hall punches someone for tackling them (which is their job), or maybe you mean #54 who stayed longer at that little start of the game incident then after the game decided to beat up on fans, or maybe your foul mouthed basketball team that made the news for what they had to say... Now lets see, those situations all had negative behavior, losing, and classLESness (not classness that's not a word zoob). Are you just trying to deflect the spotlight here clown?
faulty comparison | 5:46 p.m. Dec. 26, 2008
"And to think it all started with that down-to-the-wire win at Ann Arbor, which wasn't the first time in this state's football history an undefeated Beehive State squad was thrust into the national spotlight after eking by a subpar Michigan team. Right, 1984 BYU Cougars?"

Who in the world is Jody Genessy? She needs to do some reseach to avoid making lame comparisons in her stories.

BYU didn't just "eke" out a win in 1984. That 1984 Michigan team would have buried 2008 Michigan. Check 1984 Michigan's schedule to see some of the teams they beat to get to a "lowly" 6-5 record before the bowl. And 2008 Michigan had how many wins oh wait a minute let's see they had 3 whole wins. And besides losing to overrated utah they also lost to Toledo at "the big house".

I won't even get into the other cheap shots she took at BYU, it would just be a waste of my time and I think her main purpose was to stir things up. Jody Genessy has no credibility as a sports writer as far as I'm concerned.

Lol @ crying koogs | 9:56 a.m. Dec. 27, 2008
You know Alabama may very well beat the Utes in a heavy handed fashion proving they are one of the best four teams in the nation.

BYU on the other hand lost three times... included a heavy handed loss to a team that is not considered to be one of the best four in their own conference.

No if on the other hand the Utes win their bowl game (an option BYU doesn't have) you losers of the south will once again look as dumb as you did with your quest for perfection infomercials and your get rich MLM speeches.

Perhaps you can use the money Utah is giving you from it's $17 million dollar pay out to buy a clue.

Why can't the Zoobies go away ? Your weak season is done and you are so mad Utah is better than BYU. It hurts when the 'Real Utah" team is getting all the spotlight. Regardless of what happens in the Sugar Bowl Utah has achieved this year and BYU has stunk
G-Man | 1:58 p.m. Dec. 27, 2008
I just want to know why you BYU fans are such a hateful bunch, you know why people hate you so bad its not because of you religion, its because when you do win you cant win with class, you gotta shoot your mouths off, I mean look over the years when you have had good years with your football program and during the game your teams are always gotta flap jaws and talk crap to your opponents until you get your butts handed to you then your players are not so mouthy!!!! why dont you win or lose with some class. And I will be the first Utah fan to apoligize how some utes acted after Utah beat BYU work on showing some class instead of bunch of arrogant, better than thou zoobies.
RE:Splenda Bowl | 11:48 p.m. Dec. 27, 2008
Wow isnt that clever, Some geek in Utah County got creative. It is so nice to have the jealous BYU fans take shots at the Utes. I can imagine how hard it is looking in at a real team. Why will Utah it be humiliating if Utah loses this game. The Utes are going in as underdogs to a team that was rated #1 for many weeks. Utah is amoung the elite and will do their best. If they get beat the team and Ute fans will still be very proud. BYU fans would not understand since most are not true fans, just sheep in the herd.

Just a bunch of sad trash talkers. Very few write intelligent comments or give any insights. BYU and Utah fans included. I am one of the former if anyone wants to know.

also, the real? is the season still going?

usu getting a new coach isn't a big story of the year, it happens every 3.2 yrs since 1992

big deal!

"also, the real? is the season still going?"

You're one to talk. A nation asks itself "Weber? Can a grill play football?"
