Fellow BYU fans | 4:00 p.m. Dec. 21, 2008
Fellow BYU fans, all is not lost for this year. I still have my betamax and my collection from 1984.

Join me as we watch those hard fought games, from the near loss at home to near winless Wyoming, to our mircle 10 point win over 0.500 Utah. Lets not forget our wrestling move that saved us from Hawaii. To top if off, we get to see our National Championship geam against the near invincible 6-5 Michigan team.
What an embarassment!!! | 4:03 p.m. Dec. 21, 2008
Arizona beat the heck out of BYU --just as TCU and Utah.
This is a team who dared to talk about perfection, BCS and Heisman at the beginning of the year.
They ended up worse than a 7-5 Arizona who is ranked 41st in Sagarin's football rating.

So long, BYU. See you next year as a 4th place team in MWC --behind Utah, TCU and AFA

Mendenhall is a coward. He is afraid of good competition. He cannot coach.

BYU needs to get LaVell out of the stands and get him back on the sideline.

I understand that this forum provides a way for us to relieve frustration and steam. It really benefits our coworkers on Monday morning as they don't have to listen to everything we write here.

BYU football was fun and entertaining this year. It is ok to dream and plan for great things. It is also ok to fall short. I say keep dreaming and planning big. Go Cougs!

Yewties are already starting to "justify" their upcoming loss to Alabama. You are two or three plays away from having 3 losses or more this year - but you LUCKED out. Believe me, most years you won't get so lucky.

Utah is not nearly as good as its arrogant fans think.

So let's start talking about the "moral" victory coming up - what, anythng less than a 21 point loss???

Hey, your game has a ton more national significance than BYU's did, so do us all proud, ok?
Aaron | 4:26 p.m. Dec. 21, 2008
Fire Anae, every knows what BYU is doing on offense. 2nd bring in some speed on the corners

BYU does not play well after it loses to Utah. That is the game that matters, the rest is, well, just another trip to Lavell Edwards stadium south in Las Vegas
Funny | 4:31 p.m. Dec. 21, 2008
Isn't it funny how Bronco and the byu player always say that they gave the game to the other team? The first step to getting better is recognizing that the other team was simply better. Then they can look at what needs to be done to improve their own players/coaches. In a nutshell byu needs some humility.

It was so sweet when BYU won the national championship in 1984 - 24 years ago. We trashed Michigan, one of the best teams in the country 6-4.
Funny.... | 4:54 p.m. Dec. 21, 2008
It's comical that half of the utah fan base are front runners. I cant believe how many brand new Utah shirts and hoodies i've seen since the BYU-Utah game. Half of the fans i talk to have no clue what they're talking about. When Utah gets their buts kicked against bama and sucks it up next year, we wont be seeing much red. Granted every team has front runners including the Y but this is ridiculous.......
BY-SLOW | 4:55 p.m. Dec. 21, 2008
Wow, they looked slower than they did against Utah. I cheered for BYU but I cannot help thinking that maybe the Mountain West really sucks.

Oh I forgot. Co State beat Fresno.
Caleby | 4:56 p.m. Dec. 21, 2008
Can't really blame this on the players, blame must fall on the coaches.
1)Defense--unable to put any type of consistent pressure on the QB who merely picked apart the weak secondary. Note to coaches: when you have guys who can't cover, you've got to pressure the QB.
2)Offensive coordinator--Anae shows about as much imagination as a former offensive lineman. You've got a stud at running back and you simply have Hall slinging the ball over and over again. How dumb is that? When the other team doesn't respect the run, it's no wonder that Hall gets pressured and panics. Additionally, against an extremely fast defense how many reverses to Reed did BYU run to keep the defense honest? Zero is the number that comes to mind.
Oh, and yes I could do a better job at play calling, it just so happens that my present employment suits me just fine thank you.

Football is priority #5.

Well, that explains this mess.
Shame on BYU Fans!! | 5:02 p.m. Dec. 21, 2008
First of all, I'm a BYU fan and want to make this clear...God doesn't care about SPORTS!!(sorry to burst some of your bubbles) Second, let's get this out of the way, BYU is a CHURCH school...let me repeat that...CHURCH School! Firesides and the way players act off the field is a lot more important than stupid football games. Look at the Utes, they dont' have a honor code and are they producing every year...NO!! They have had a couple good seasons, but other than that there isn't a real big difference..it seems BYU or Utah are always winning the conference.
And for you BYU and Utah fans that are complaining that BYU can't compete because of a honor code, need to wake up!!! BYU dominated the WAC and are doing the same in the MWC. We will never be able to compete with the larger conferences and it's because Utah as a state has nothing to offer these kids that want to live the big city/party life while at college.
Hats off to Mendenhall for running a clean/successful program!!
livin' right | 5:02 p.m. Dec. 21, 2008
After Bronco's pre-game fireside about livin' right on and off the field, the zoobies got to thinking about how much repentin' they needed to do (on and off the field) and couldn't focus on the game.
Anonymous | 5:17 p.m. Dec. 21, 2008
Those that said this had blow out written all over it were right! Byu sruggles again'st teams with athletes. That explains all 3 losses this year. I can say this BRONCO GO OUT And GET SOME SPEED PLEASE, or 2010 will be no different! Do you think we will get by ASU,FSU, And possibly Oklahoma with this same group?? Not to even bring in TCU, and Utah! You could have 5 maybe 6 losses next year. Do we agree cougar nation? Bronco come to the world of college football speed is the game now you don't have it! Max Hall has shown he has no foot speed either and is not a big game player, maybe if you find some athletes to put around him it will help, but he is highly over rated. You just got a couple of JC players that have so called speed, but they are not even on the radar screen with rivals.com the true barometer of college recruiting and we are lagging behind Utah and Tcu according to rivals.com. Check it out cougar nation and see where Bronco is takeing us. Its not good unless he comes up with some last minute recruiting gems.

All i can say to all you BYU fans is HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA...hold on i got ntp pick myself off the floor Iam laughing so hard...it was sooooooo funny to see all them fans crying in the stadium last night....WOOOOHOOOOO...way to go Wildcats..
Steve-o | 5:27 p.m. Dec. 21, 2008
Well, I finished with all of my Sunday responsibilities, thought I would come and post a nice respectful congrats to Arizona, and thank the BYU staff and squad for a nice season.

However, I have noticed that this board has become a haven for the classless, arrogant Utes who are pretty much virgins to winning, and don't understand sometimes you win, sometimes you lose (reference the past three years).

It will be interesting how you respond to your loss against Alabama, which so many of you seem to think has already happened.

As a BYU fan, I am indeed thankful that there is more to our season than how Utah performs. I notice how pompous Utah fans are regarding BYU's three losses, one to Utah, and the other two to teams that did not include one UTAH PLAYER.

I guess it helps your long-term low self-esteem pointing out the two losses that did not include the Utah team in anyway.

re:" BYU 2009 Football Motto | 4:34 p.m. Dec. 21, 2008
BYU 2009 Football Motto: Wait until 2010"

What is Utah's gonna be? We got smashed by 'Bama, wait until 2013?

Call it trash, but its a fact. | 5:36 p.m. Dec. 21, 2008
Fact, if UTAH beats BYU, count on BYU losing the bowl game - take a look at the past.

Didn't help that they were also in red.
Tomorrow | 5:39 p.m. Dec. 21, 2008
Yup, not a lot of zoobies today, but tomorrow when they pull their heads out of the sand, they'll be here making all kinds of statements about Utah losing in the future.
UTES RULE | 5:40 p.m. Dec. 21, 2008
It's funny. Nowhere does this article mention Utah playing last night. 2/3 BYU losses this year have nothing to do with Utah, yet, with their seven stages of Kevin Bacon logic, you would think Utah played every game BYU lost.

Is that Utah's best gauge of who the Utes are as a team? How BYU does??? Doesn't it really make you Utah fans feel sort of pathetic??? You have no collective idea who U are?

re:What an embarassment!!! | 4:03 p.m.
"So long, BYU. See you next year as a 4th place team in MWC --behind Utah, TCU and AFA."

I will have to defer to Utah Fans insight on this, If anyone knows mediocrity, it has been Utah through the past four years (40, if you want to get historical).

In the meantime, I believe BYU will bounce back after this year.

It will be interesting how Utah, a true BCS type team will Dominate Bama in a true BCS Bowl.I hope that Mr./Ms. "What an embarassment!!!" will be around with his/her thoughts after the Sugar Bowl. Please, promise that you will be our guest again with your thoughtful insight after the game.

Loss to NM was early in the year, and if you watched the game you saw that AZ gave it away. Good try!
Anonymous | 5:52 p.m. Dec. 21, 2008
Yes, you all hold onto 1984. Utah fans will hold onto our 1944 basketball championship then. Utah has won a championship, and was in the championship against Kentucky 10 years ago. BYU can't get out of the first round. If you want to play it that way and live in the past, then it's too bad you don't have a basketball championship huh?
Who are these Utes??? | 5:53 p.m. Dec. 21, 2008
Are they a BCS football team, or a CBI basketball team?

Do they even know?

Just wondering???
Re:Losers | 5:59 p.m. Dec. 21, 2008
Hey bud, shall we count how many games BYU was close to loosing.

Lets count them all up shall we.

Washington 1
TCU 2
New Mexico 3
UNLV 4
Colo St 5
Utah 6
Arizona 7

While you can claim Utah could have lost 3, you should have lost 7 and not even been able to get to a bowl - which would have been a good thing. UNLV would have beat Zona.

Arrogant | 6:00 p.m. Dec. 21, 2008
Wow this word gets used a lot to describe "Ute Fan". I thought arrogant described fans who make excuses after horrible losses for their team whom they proclaim #1 before the season is over, proclaim their players "best" before the first snap then want to run them out of town, expect the whole world to follow their standards on morality and look down the moral telescope at anyone who doesn't share the same beliefs. Wake up and join the world it is all around you and it is beautiful. Arrogant describes BYU FAN !!!!!!!!!

BYU Will be OK | 6:11 p.m. Dec. 21, 2008
We all hate to say, "wait until next year" but all Cougar fans need to wait. Your team will challenge again next year for the conference. You have a good QB that will work on his "pressure" skills over the winter and summer. You have Utah and TCU in the bubble. TCU, Utah, Air Force and CSU will be good next year.

It's just a game. Not worth all the hate that came with the season this year.
Arizona | 6:22 p.m. Dec. 21, 2008
Arizona is clearly a better team. They were more physical, faster and were better coached.
miserable | 6:26 p.m. Dec. 21, 2008
the game was horrible and embarrassing to watch. Mendenhall seriously needs to go into Spring camp with the approach of finding a QB that can show up in big games. Our schedule is highly favorable next season but I just don't see Max Hall being the QB to take BYU to the next level. He just can't do it. I feel sorry for the guy because he wants to be the leader but he isn't capable. Who is next in line at QB?
Thankfully | 6:30 p.m. Dec. 21, 2008
I for one am glad this season is over. They whole year it was..."we get no respect"... We're a good team. I guess they weren't that good of a team. Losses to Utah, TCU, Arizona, and a "win" against lowly Washington should be proof enough.
BYU won't get better... | 6:34 p.m. Dec. 21, 2008
Until they can admit they have a losing problem. The first step to overcoming a problem is to admit you have one.

Continuing to say "we beat ourselves" is disrespect to the team that just wiped the field with you.

"Hello my Name is BYU and I am a loser"

#1. Fix the slow and confused secondary. They haven't covered anyone for half a season. They have made average QB's look good and good QB's look like Heisman candidates.

#2. Tell Max that if a guy is double covered, trying to fit a football in a window the size of a pea isn't really a good idea.

#3. "Excecuting better in what we do." Is a poor excuse for "We have no idea how to adjust our game plan and will therefore continue doing what we have been doing."

Hey Ute fans... | 6:54 p.m. Dec. 21, 2008
If i hear one more comment about how BYU makes the MWC look bad I'm going to hurl. Poor Utes, you talk like you are carrying the weight of the conference on your shoulders. You have had two good seasons and your fair share of mediocre seasons. Your program is no better than any of the top 4 teams in the conference. I realize BYU was overrated and that you were the better team this year (and that Y fans are entitled), but stop over-glorifying your position in the conference. TCU was just as good as you. You finished undefeated and that is quite an accomplishment. But don't kid yourself, you are not an elite program. NO one in the MWC is. Keep things in perspective lest you become like an entitled BYU fan.

Sooo...

U'r saying that the U is making a solid run for the CBI again.

Yep, Utah has such a solid basketball program.

SBU and ISU...???

...and 1944 UTAH basketball was on the way home from losing in the NIT. It was a WWII year. Every other basketball player was in Europe serving their country and trying to keep Hitler from taking over Europe. Jimmy Stewart was flying hostile missions. Leslie Howard (Ashley Wilkes from Gone with the Wind) was shot down and killed.

We're proud of the Ute Players who stayed home from the war to play Basketball, but keep it in perspective.

Don't go professional when you almost fumble but get saved by the refs. U definately need another yr of college ball. :|

Yewties are the most arrogant fans there are. It will be fun seeing them HUMBLED by Alabama. But don't worry, Yewties, you will somehow claim a Moral victory. After 40 years of "moral" victories, you don't know much else.

Now on to basketball where we will sweep AGAIN.
hey cougar blue | 8:15 p.m. Dec. 21, 2008
The only reason Harline is still open is because Max Hall is still throwing INT's!

Where is the class? | 8:29 p.m. Dec. 21, 2008
What kills me is all of the BYU fans who come on here just to tell the utah fans, (most of whom, like myself, were hoping that the cougars could show up for the MWC) "Well, you're gonna lose too." That is about the dumbest, most unsportsmanlike thing you can say right now. If Utah does lose to alabama, they can certainly hold their heads up higher than BYU, who lost to a middle of the road unranked team. If Utah wins (which is by no means impossible), then you will look like even dumber.

No matter what happens on January 2nd, the Utes will not be anywhere near as sad as the cougars are right now. And heck, they still have a chance to win. Your season is over. Quit trying to make up for it by imagining ours ruined as well. At this point, our season is unruinable. You can thank Max Hall for that.

Also, please stop saying that you never lost a game to a better team, but that you beat yourselves three times this year. It is disrespectful and completely classless. Just because your coaches and player do it doesn't make it right.
RE Hey Ute fans... | 6:54 p.m. | 8:28 p.m. Dec. 21, 2008
