this is a dark day for BYU
Anonymous | 9:47 p.m. Dec. 20, 2008
Ouch! Ouch! Ouch! What a loss! I think Bronco needs to quit trying to be a seminary teacher to these guys and focus on FOOTBALL!

If you want to work for the lame pedagogues in the Church Education System, then you should NOT be head football coach!

What an embarassment!
Arizona | 9:45 p.m. Dec. 20, 2008
Stormed the field. I guess we'll hear about how lame that and the last pass to rub it in was all winter now. Just to explain it, the fans didn't rush the field cuz it was BYU.

2-2 in the vegas bowl... I would have thought that with this being your fourth year in a row there you would have had a huge home field advantage. You war kittens are just sad...

Clearly byu was average this year but 10 win seasons are nice each year. Go cougs

New Offensive Coordinator
A legit rushing game
A real defense
Commitment from Te'o
More attitude/toughness
No more "quests"
Humble the Utes next year

Note to Bronco: | 9:50 p.m. Dec. 20, 2008
When you practice soft, you play soft. Your team, especially the defense is soft.
ouch | 9:53 p.m. Dec. 20, 2008
most painful 10-3 season ever
not sorry to see it end

Just another reason to hate the cougs: they embarrass the MWC. I rarely cheer for BYU, but I was pulling for them today for the first time in a long time. This is what I get? What an awful showing.
BYU fans | 9:55 p.m. Dec. 20, 2008
your team is overrated. Start talking when you beat a decent out of confenence team. Arizona, Tulsa, UCLA, Boston College, Cal. All of these games are opportunities to prove your a decent program but you keep losing. Best win last year a narrow victory over a mediocre 6-6 UCLA, and this year over Air Force, the 4th place team in the conference. Stop embarassing the MWC and for goodness sake stop talking smack until you back it up.
TED | 9:53 p.m. Dec. 20, 2008
I'VE BEEN A DIEHARD BYU FAN AND STILL AM BUT I HAVE TO SUGGEST TO BRONCO TO SET A GOAL OF NOT BEING THE MOST TURNOVER PRONE TEAM IN THE COUNTRY FIRST!!! PERFECTION IS A LONG WAY OFF.
BYU | 9:54 p.m. Dec. 20, 2008
And their fans, were embarrassed today by the football team. The defense was porous, the offense turned the ball over and all in all put in a lackluster performance. The coaching staff yet again failed to prepare the team for the big game. This is becoming the MO of the coaches and one must wonder when they will wake up from their self delusions. Once again, Max Hall proved to be a goat by turning the ball over at key times. A major attitude adjustment is needed by the coaching staff.
adam timo | 9:54 p.m. Dec. 20, 2008
dont lose hope coug fans we got a 5' 6" 155 lb running back coming in next year....adam timo...he gained almost 175 yards rushing against the high school power Tuacahn Performing Arts High..so lets RISE AND SHOUT!!
lame | 9:59 p.m. Dec. 20, 2008
Wow way to represent the MWC. Oh well at least Colorado won theirs. Ute fans be careful with your spelling. That's all they have on us now.

The new quest:
The quest to beat more then one winning team
The quest to find a defense
The quest to beat any team in red
The quest for a new QB
The quest for a new OC
The quest for a more practices and less firesides
The quest for humility

There's lots more that I'm sure are being considered but frankly I don't want to type them all.
arnie | 9:59 p.m. Dec. 20, 2008

BYU an embarrasment to | 9:59 p.m. Dec. 20, 2008
the MWC!!! win or lose we ARE playing Alabama. BYU can't pull it off against the 5th place PAC-10 team. I WAS really cheering for the Y because I believe the MWC was better than a lot of the BCS conferences but BYU underperforms . . . AGAIN. What a let down BYU is.

One thing that BYU doesn't have that TCU and Utah do is speed. Obviously AZ took advantage of BYU slow pokes.

For a few series it was kind of funny, BYU always bashes on defenseless USU and for awhile that was exactly who they looked like. Maybe they should hold their belittling comments to themselves and worry about their "Quest for Perfection."

I would say pick on someone your own size but you have and you got humbled, EVERY TIME.

GOOD JOB IN 1984:)

re: BYU fans | 9:59 p.m. Dec. 20, 2008
I agree, this is starting to get frustrating. Usually Utes make no sense when they talk trash, but we haven't proved anything in the last three years on a national stage. We are beating the teams that are clearly worse than us, but get spanked by anyone of importance. Collie should shut his trap about BYU fans whining. We expect better, we are the most average 10-3 team of all time!
attilathehun | 9:59 p.m. Dec. 20, 2008
Pathetic performance. Much like the last half of the season. I'm fine with Bronco's position that football, in the large scheme of life, is of secondary importance. But I do expect him to prepare his players to play, and to do so with fire and passion. I saw a team tonight that played with less enthusiasm than the 6 year olds performing songs in sacrament meeting. And that is SAAAAAD.

I did like that, despite being down by 17, BYU kept fighting. That's good coaching.

Some of their fans have jumped off the bandwagon long ago.
byu fan | 10:01 p.m. Dec. 20, 2008
MVP for Arizona, Max Hall and entire byu coaching staff. We couldn't cover their recievers by only rushing three, we should have blitzed the hole game. We finally did in the fourth quarter and it payed off. Very poor coaching job, we didn't learn by our mistakes. We keep proving we can't win the big one. Sorry, disgruntled byu fan!
We're not worthy | 10:02 p.m. Dec. 20, 2008
I'm a BYU fan and alumni. I wish the Cougars were half as good as the Utes. We deserve all the trash talk the Utes fans want to dish to us right now. We've been rooting for a loser team all season.

Let me guess, I beat your football team also? You guys are 0-2 losers against me today! LOL.

But let me guess, you won the fireside last night? Or did I beat you at that as well?

10-3 AND EVERYONE IS READY TO FALL ON A SWORD.

At least CSU made our conference look respectable.

Utah has one 7 bowl games in a row!!! They are in the BCS again!!

Magic does happen, indeed.

Go UTES!

Have to admit, this is a bad loss.
Re: Breaking news | 10:06 p.m. Dec. 20, 2008
Now that is what I call trash talking. Still laughing. BYU is absolutely horrible. Should have lost in Logan too but the refs blew the game. Oh wait, I just copied that ref line from the comments on the basketball game.
correction | 10:09 p.m. Dec. 20, 2008
Re Utah Fans,

BYU just embarassed the whole state and conference. After the kitties ran their mouth so much about how they'd win by so much and how Utah would lose so bad, is it any suprise?

Great football quote: "make your words soft and sweet, you never know when you'll have to eat them"

How's it taste cougars!
Hey Cougs | 10:08 p.m. Dec. 20, 2008
Your performance today is a big reason why Utes fans hate BYU so much. You never step up out of conference, even against a five loss team! Your bad play makes our conference look bad. This one should really hurt BYU fans if you're honest with yourself. AZ was clearly a better team all around - bigger, faster, stronger...please accept your humble pie, you look silly if you still think you belong with the elite.
Wildcat Insider | 10:08 p.m. Dec. 20, 2008
Oh Matt.....where are you son? Really....42-10 BYU victory? I do have to admit that my prediction of Arizona winning by 11 was a little off though. Like I said before....bet with your mind and not with your heart. But ALWAYS root for your team and show the other team respect. I'm not here to gloat......I give BYU there due respect...they are a class act. This is the Wildcat Insider signing off until maybe we meet in Basketball this year. BYU Basketball is going to be great this year. Over and out.

BYU is full of gutless cowards with no heart, no integrity, and no fortitude.

Utah played one game at a time and didn't need a slogan like "quest for perfection".

BYU lost do a lackluster Arizona team, while TCU and Uta are carrying the MWC.
Never showed up... | 10:13 p.m. Dec. 20, 2008
Max Hall showed up again, NOT! He never showed up for a big game all year.

Did Jorgenson play? Just wondering, I never heard his name. Is'nt he the conference all time sack leader?
Ummmm??? | 10:11 p.m. Dec. 20, 2008
So, can we finally put to rest all of this "the MWC is better than the PAC-10" insanity? I have said it before, but I will reiterate: the MWC marquee win this season was the Utah home suck out over PAC-10 3rd place Oregon State. TCH looked silly against Oklahoma and well, there really wasn't anything of true substance from any other team throughout the season. Yet somehow, the MWC got 3 teams rated highly this year and then those same 3 teams won all of their games against poor MWC foes.

As for BYU, you should be very proud of your top win this season against the mighty Air Force Falcons (because that school doesn't have any recruiting obstacles). You looked like I thought you'd look tonight (slow) against the 5th-place Wildcats from the PAC-10. Yeah, that same PAC-10 that was proclaimed to be so inferior to the MWC all season. Give me a break, the MWC couldn't compete with USC if it created one team with the top players from every team in the conf. At least Vegas had it right. The pre-game line suggested the MWC couldn't really compete with the big boys. They were right...
re:Ute Fans | 10:11 p.m. Dec. 20, 2008
Stating the obvious isn't an embarrassment to Ute Fan. The embarrassment is all yours. Kewger fan reaps what he (she) has sown all season. Opened your mouth and someone jammed a fist down it. Utes and Frogs are used to carrying the MWC banner and we'll do it again. Way to go Colorado State ! Enjoy your next 8 months kewger fan !
YEE HAW | 10:15 p.m. Dec. 20, 2008
Wow the utes sure to jump on quickly. The rest of the cougs must be making excuses. nah we got flat out smoked. regroup and hit it hard next year. Utah is a better team this year. Big deal get over it. Hey utes YOU ARE BETTER THIS YEAR. How else can I stroke your ego? I even dropped to one knee as I submit my inquiry.

Breaking News.....

The economy is in the red. So is Max Hall.

Woody | 10:15 p.m. Dec. 20, 2008
I heard the usual whining by the radio guys before the game that BYU should have been favored. And Matt, great prediction! The best team won the game, it wasn't that PAC-10 officials cost BYU the game. That is the usual excuse. I heard that a 10 win MWC team is better than a 7 win PAC-10 team. The best team won the game. Oh, yeah! Stop whining about the pass at the end of the game, it was done to give Mike Thomas a career reception record in the PAC-10, they could have gone long to him and scored another touchdown to rub it in, but they threw short to end the game. Great win for Mike Stoops and the Wildcats and will build on the new program. BYU better just hope they don't have to play the Wildcats next year. GO ARIZONA!!!!
And with that.... | 10:15 p.m. Dec. 20, 2008
BYU sets themselves up poorly for next year. There will once again be no team leader - BYU will not be prepared to play big time opponents (Oklahoma, Florida State, TCU and Utah) - Anae will once again run the ball 3 times for 21 yards then pass 20 times for 50 yards and three turnovers - etc.
BYU is extremely slow. The best speed I saw all night was from Kariya running the ball. What a way to start the offseason. There really is nothing good to take from this game.
