Now that football is over | 2:18 a.m. Dec. 4, 2008
the cougs can get back to dominating the state of utah in basketball. There is no real challenge to the coug's supremacy in Utah.
AZ Coug | 7:15 a.m. Dec. 4, 2008
Good so far, need to bring their A game to have a shot against ASU. I will get a taste of the humiliation the SLC Cougar fans constantly face if we don't give ASU a good game.

"BYU jumped out to a 15-4 lead behind eight points by Cummard a Miles dunk and 3-pointers by Freddette and Jackson Emery" That actually adds up to 16 points... I'm just saying.
Looking good. | 7:21 a.m. Dec. 4, 2008
Nice job Cougs. Looking good and improving all the time. It's good to see this on the road too.

It was a nice BYU win; now on to Utah State.
Weber State | 7:25 a.m. Dec. 4, 2008
I was expecting the Wildcats to put up more of a fight in their own gym.

BYU is playing well, but still has a lot of room for improvement. Utah State should be a much tougher test.
Anonymous | 7:54 a.m. Dec. 4, 2008
Lets go Cougs! Stomp Utah State!
McKay | 8:09 a.m. Dec. 4, 2008
Where were all the Weber fans? I was there last night and the arena was half full at best. Just surprised me that Weber doesn't get more support... anyways, fun game for a BYU fan, Cummard was the best player on the court and it wasn't even close, and finally, the dunk by Davis was nasty!!! Great dunk!!!
Jumbo Slice | 8:10 a.m. Dec. 4, 2008
The Cougars dominated the purple palace.
looking ahead | 8:16 a.m. Dec. 4, 2008
BYU has Utah State (5-0), at #19 Arizona St. (5-1), at Tulsa, and #15 Wake Forest (7-0) on their pre-conference schedule.

With a good showing in conference, a top two or three in MWC finish, and a 20+ win season, the Cougars have enough strength in their schedule to have a good shot at another NCAA bid.
Bizarro World | 8:26 a.m. Dec. 4, 2008
There was a time when BYU was dominating the state of Utah on the Football field and The Utes were dominate in basketball. This year (and many recent year) have been opposite! BYU is the dominate B-ball team in the state and the Utes are having some dominating years in Football. It's nice to see the Utes make it to BCS bowl games. Now, BYU has got to make it to the sweet 16 or maybe elite 8 to match what Utah is doing on the football field.
Utes dominant? | 8:40 a.m. Dec. 4, 2008
Since when does winning the MWC in football every four years become dominant? The Utes are hardly dominant in football. They are good but far from dominant like the Cougars in the 80's and 90's.
interesting weeks coming up. | 8:56 a.m. Dec. 4, 2008
BYU has got some real challenges coming up in the next few week. It will be interesting to see how they perform against USU, ASU and Wake Forest (which will be exciting as it is being played in the Marriott center)
Anonymous | 9:11 a.m. Dec. 4, 2008
Re Bizarro World: What a joke! Utah has a very, very lucky year in football (Could easily have been 7-5) and suddenly they are "dominant" in football? I don't know why I waste my time reading these stupid comments.
Weber State Fans | 9:13 a.m. Dec. 4, 2008
are like yewt fans. Their team must be incredible for people to hop on the bandwagon. Otherwise, the purple palace, just like Rice Eccles, is half empty and everyone wants the coaches head. Weber State and University of Utah-only fair weather fans allowed.
Go Aggies | 9:14 a.m. Dec. 4, 2008
FEAR THE COW BELL COUGARS! FEAR THE COW BELL!
See you in Salt Lake you scardy cats.

Go Aggies!
Utah sports heirarchy | 9:15 a.m. Dec. 4, 2008
We can probably all agree that the Utes and Cougars are pretty evenly matched in football, with USU, Weber, and SUU being pretty far behind. However, when it comes to basketball, no team can claim domination. The Cougars have had a couple of very good years, but with a few exceptionally bad years, Utah has been right in the mix of things, and USU always has a great basketball team. Moreover, UVU and Weber are typically at least in the running for spots in the big dance. BYU has gotten there more frequently than all but USU in the very recent past, but they have had no more success than USU, even though they have enjoyed significantly higher seeds (thus getting theoretically easier opponents).

All I'm saying is that any talk of domination in basketball makes the individual making the claims look pretty foolish once you look at the record.
Help - Where's Noah | 9:17 a.m. Dec. 4, 2008
What has happened to Noah Hartsock. He has not played in several BYU games now. Is he injured?
Cougs Dominate in B-Ball? | 9:21 a.m. Dec. 4, 2008
Typical BYU fan. The Ags have owned the state during the past decade.
Alternate | 9:49 a.m. Dec. 4, 2008
Utah had a great 2004 but then went 6-6, 8-5, and 9-4 the next 3 years. Not real great years. They have had an amazing 2008, but it is not over. They are in jeporady of being this year's "Hawaii". A BCS buster gone bust because of a "schedule made in heaven" and then being tossed to the lions. Playing Alabama/Florida in the Super Dome or Texas in Phoenix is nowhere near playing and barely defeating TCU and Oregon State on Thursday nights in RES where the opponent had to deal with travel in addition to the short practice week.
Hartsock | 9:55 a.m. Dec. 4, 2008
He sprained his ankle in a recent game.
Oh Really | 9:56 a.m. Dec. 4, 2008
For the person that thinks that Weber fans are bandwagon people you need to realize no on in Ogden cares if BYU is in town to play us. I guarantee you more people would show up against the U or USU, you know real schools. As far as Weber fans are concerned BYU is a joke. And to prove that, our football team lost to Utah by less points this year than yours.

Your basketball team might be good this year but when was the last time you guys did anything in the tourney? Never? Lately Weber State gets invited to the Big Dance more than you fools.
Hartsock | 10:00 a.m. Dec. 4, 2008
Out with sprained ankle, maybe another week.
Reply: Oh Really | 10:18 a.m. Dec. 4, 2008
Oh Really, Maybe if your team had cared about playing BYU, which is a real school with students and good sports programs, they would not have gotten embarrassed quite as bad at home. I guess the joke is on Weber.
History | 10:21 a.m. Dec. 4, 2008
I think sports fans live more in the past than the present. I'm just as guilty as the next person in throwing stats around from the past. For example if you expand the time frame from one decade to two suddenly BYU comes out as the more dominant team. For myself I try to live as best as I can in the present. What happened last year is history and what happened over a year ago is ancient history and doesn't matter once it comes to Saturday's game. The best team will win regardless of the past.
Dang! | 10:23 a.m. Dec. 4, 2008
I hate it when that happens.
re: oh really | 10:31 a.m. Dec. 4, 2008
lol, BYU's "joke" of a team throttles the Wildcats by 30 points and your fans don't have enough interest in their own team to show up for an instate rival.

For definition of joke, see mirror.
@ Oh Really 10:18 | 10:33 a.m. Dec. 4, 2008
Those are some pretty strong words considering we just kicked the wildcats in the throat by 30 points. :)
Here come the AGGIES | 10:35 a.m. Dec. 4, 2008
Too scared to play in the Spectrum, the cougs will get spanked in the Energy Solutions arena Saturday. Bring on the cow bells! USU will still be undefeated next week.
Ogden High | 10:35 a.m. Dec. 4, 2008
BYU just beat Ogden High. Logan High should even be an easier task.

Go Cougs. Yeah. Go Baby. Go Cougs. AHHHHH!
Re: Oh Really | 10:38 a.m. Dec. 4, 2008
Congrats on a great season in football, I hope it continues this weekend... I'm not sure if bandwagon fans is fair, but you have to admit that regardless of who Weber was playing last night, there should have been more Weber fans there. I was there and I felt bad for the Weber players, they were playing a superior team on their homecourt and there was no homecourt advantage whatsoever... The high school state tourney gets more fans than that... the place was like a library
RE: Oh Really | 10:58 a.m. Dec. 4, 2008
Weber better than BYU??? Scoreboard.
TO: Bizzaro World | 11:28 a.m. Dec. 4, 2008
Yes you do live in a bizzare world when beating BYU once every three years is "dominant". Only a ute would come up with that one.
Re: Oh Really | 11:29 a.m. Dec. 4, 2008
Pretty bold of you to throw around such smack talk with absolutely nothing to back it up except "we lost to Utah by less than you guys so in some parallel universe we're better than you". Hahaha!!!
Can't Wait for Saturday | 11:41 a.m. Dec. 4, 2008
Scared to play in the spectrum? You obviously don't know the story. It's Morrill who refuses to play in the Marriott Center, what with 51 consecutive home court victories. Who can blame him? Anyway, they worked out a three year deal, with the two playing in Logan next year and Provo the following year. Leave it to the Aggies to say anything to make themselves feel better. Kind of like in football, where scoring a single touchdown against the cougs was a moral victory, and the student body chanted "overrated." They got throttled by the cougs, as usual, but had to open their mouths to compensate for their lack of success on the field. I expect the same thing come Saturday in Salt Lake. And as for the cowbells, hey, they need all they can get to drown out the cougs' cheers as they throttle the Aggies.
RE: Here come the Aggies | 11:51 a.m. Dec. 4, 2008
Too scared to play in the Spectrum? You obiously don't know the story. It's Morrill who refuses to come to Provo, what with 51 consecutive victories in the Marriott Center. And it's the Cougs who are headed to the Spectrum next season. Leave it to an Aggie to open his mouth to make himself feel better about himself. Kind of like football, where scoring a single touchdown against the Cougs was a moral victory, and the student section chanted "overrated." They got thrashed, but had to say anything to make themselves feel better for the mediocrity on the field. And as for the cowbells, hey, they'll need all they can get to drown out the cougs' cheers as the Aggies get dominated. Anything to make themselves feel better....
Jeff | 11:58 a.m. Dec. 4, 2008
Good win cougs. I'm a weber fan, but know when to give it up. We got our butts kicked last night.. It's pretty sad to see Weber's attendance so low especially for a in state game like last night. In years past that game would always sell out, or come close to it. Good luck in the MWC you guys should roll this year.
Anonymous | 12:02 p.m. Dec. 4, 2008
The rest of the story is beloved Dave Rose wanted to play last year in the ESA and then go back to Provo then to Logan. Way to go Stew for standing up to them. Dave Rose has also said he didn't like the way he got treated the last time he was in Logan. Oh by the way they lost. I will give you guys credit for your 51 straight home wins. I will give all the credit to the Spectrum and it's Fans for the true home court. The Marriot Center doesn't even come close to the Spectrum. Come visit sometime and SEE!!!!!
Anonymous | 12:30 p.m. Dec. 4, 2008
Let's see - played 5 of the last 9 at the Spectrum.

What am I missing?

Aggie Fans: 5 of the past 9 games have been played in the Spectrum... How does that equal being afraid to play in Logan?
All Time | 12:49 p.m. Dec. 4, 2008
BYU leads the series with Utah State 134 to 90.

In 1996-1997 BYU had its worst season ever, going 1-25. The Cougars' only win that season?

Over Utah State, 64-61, in the Marriott Center.

Don't kid yourself, Utah State is just as scared of playing BYU in the Marriott Center as BYU is of playing Utah State in The Spectrum.

This isn't grade school. Playing the "chicken" card won't accomplish anything.

BYU officials made a mistake in giving Utah State an extra basketball home game to compensate for Utah State dropping a scheduled football game with BYU. Rose wasn't thrilled about it and objected. No compromise could be reached to satisfy all parties, which is why there was no men's basketball game between BYU and Utah State last season.

Cooler heads prevailed for this season and this year's game at ESA was the compromise to get the series going again.

lets see how many has bro. rose played there ummmmmm ONE.
51 straight at home | 12:54 p.m. Dec. 4, 2008
Yeah, 51 straight at home against who? Just wondering how many tough opponents you really have?
Anonymous | 12:58 p.m. Dec. 4, 2008
It was BYU"s officials who dropped the AGs from the schedule not the other way around. This happened when Cleavland was the HC.
Hey Mckay | 12:59 p.m. Dec. 4, 2008
When was the last time you came to the Spectrum.
Re: Anonymous | 1:03 p.m. Dec. 4, 2008
When Utah State wins 51 straight at home, then we'll start talking about the Spectrum. Utah State was one of the top two teams in the Big West along with Pacific, which isn't saying much. Now, they seem to have caught up to the competition in the WAC, and they can probably be considered one of the top three programs along with Nevada and New Mexico State. That's a bit more impressive, but their BO doesn't smell as rosy as the typical Aggie fan makes it out. Utah State still has a ways to go to overtake BYU and Utah as top basketball programs in the state.
bunyun | 1:03 p.m. Dec. 4, 2008
rim to high for little kids; no one in football over 250lbs
My goodness | 1:04 p.m. Dec. 4, 2008
Are we really doing the he said she said (MC vs Spectrum) discussion? Both places are tough to play at. The records show it. Neither team really gains anything from playing the other team except for bragging rights. In the post season discussion and the national rankings, both teams really dont matter that much. I know I know BYU is getting votes in the top 25 polls but does it really matter? Neither team has done much in the post season as of late. Neither team really has had a season that will make the nation go wow. Let's just let the players speak on saturday and let's see who can brag about their in-state supremacy because really, out of state, not one utah school means anything to anybody. May it be a great game and may the Aggies win.
Re: Hey McKay | 1:30 p.m. Dec. 4, 2008
99/00 season and it was a lot of fun being one of the only Cougar fans there, your crowd was awesome but it was amazing how quiet they got... anyways, what's your point?
Re: Re: Hey McKay | 1:42 p.m. Dec. 4, 2008
Just as quiet as all the Provo High students were when the Aggies beat up on them in Provo in 04? (Yeah by 22 by the way) You could even here the Aggie fans loud and clear on the TV screen ... anyways, what's your point?
re: Just wondering ... | 1:44 p.m. Dec. 4, 2008
how many tough opponents you really have?"

At least three times through the MWC, which is tougher than three times through the WAC, plus:

Boise State
Tulsa
San Jose State
Utah State
Oral Roberts
Seton Hall
Loyola Marymount

(Loyola Marymount, btw, was the last team to beat BYU in the Marriott Center on November 18, 2005, the first BYU home game of the 2005-2006 season)
