There is better fiction out there folks. Don't waste your money on this one it is a snoozer.

I am a MORMON...albeit somewhat reluctant to assume "victimhood" over agressive actions against us.
I browse the internet and read a lot. I love the internet and the interactive element in the inherent communication on it.
I read many different religious sites. There, I see a lot of negative remarks that are waaaay over the top. These are posted by people claiming membership in churches that are the base and subject of these sites.
I invariably find extremely negative remarks against Mormons on almost every site visited.
Why do people do this?
I have NEVER posted anything negative against one's religion on any of these sites.
Why do people come on here and post just to be negative?
What is the benefit of these nasty remarks?
Do these negative posters REALLY think their tone and choice of words will cause me to have doubts about MY beliefs and doctrine?
It is just a showcase of the deviseness others have in their attitudes, I guess.
Don't get me wrong...I will, and have, responded harshly at times, but I am just a low level counter puncher.
Think about it....do you REALLY think I am impressed by your negativism?
Think about it!!
@Johnny | 8:05 p.m. Dec. 1, 2008
Sure. Be sure and miss one of the greatest of Americans ever! Silly fool!
TO Bilbo | 8:44 p.m. Dec. 1, 2008
I have also come across a lot of material on the internet that the "anits" have put on there. It actually did work and caused me to seriously question my faith, i have managed to stay faithful. many people every year leave the church because they comem across some of this stuff. So YA IT DOES WORK, and unfortunatley there are more people that are writting things against the church than writting for it.
Johnny, Johnny, Johnny | 9:02 p.m. Dec. 1, 2008
Is an Internet Troll. Be careful not to get caught up with his bait. When you respond with a debate, he sits at home and laughs, loving every minute. don't give him the satisfaction and he will go away.

To Biblo,

Unfortunately there are more people that are writing things against the Church than writing for it.

This is because those that could be writing for the Church have better things to do.

I have said it before and I will say it again, these people that are always putting the church, and the leaders down, are people that are not sure of what they have in their own churches and their leaders. therfor they are intimidated by our church, and the truth that we speak. I hope I got that right. I'am not a good explainer. I never like to say anything about another man's beliefs, but some times you have to tell it like it is
Victor | 9:48 p.m. Dec. 1, 2008
Bilbo,

People take harsh positions against Mormonism because Mormonism has perhaps, one of the strongest religious claims in American History. That it is the Gospel of Jesus Christ restored through divine revelation, AND that every other creed is WRONG. That alone makes Mormonism the target of scrutiny of every kind, and we (LDS) should not be so sensitive about criticism, even if it is often outrageous.

Also, we, as Latter-day Saints have often times been less than honest when portraying the character of our beloved leader. We have, in some ways, robbed Joseph of his humanity, creating some sort of flawless golden effigy that frankly doesn't reflect the Prophet's human character in his totality. I have witnessed myself that many members of the Church have a testimony based on this "heavily edited" version of Joseph Smith, and are appalled to learn of his shortcomings.

The Joseph Smith Papers will allow for the human Joseph Smith to come back. We will be able to see his remarkable accomplishments, but also, some of his terrible mistakes and naivete (just like other prophets, including Adam, Lehi, Jonah, and Peter).

I am confident that his sincere heart will show through.
Glenn | 9:49 p.m. Dec. 1, 2008
Don't worry about any of that anti stuff folks, the one thing that I have a sure testimony of is that as long as I sincerely try to live a Christ like life, religion aside, I always come back to the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. Light cleaveth to light. I have doubted my testimony, but it always comes back. Even the prophet was left to his own devices at times, pleading with the Lord to come back to him. The only reason you would EVER leave the church and not come back is because what you want to do is more important than what God wants you to do. Just serve your fellow man, put the Lord first, be truly introspective and lay aside self-justification, and you will be blessed, even if it is intermittently, with the knowledge you seek. Keep the Faith. I cannot wait to read these journals.
ann | 10:01 p.m. Dec. 1, 2008
Wow,I cant believe that any religion would sit back and allow the members to talk negitivly about one another and that my brother and sisters is what I am reading please act like children of GOD and behave in that manner no matter what church you are with.

Thanks for the great comments.
I actually feel sorry for those negative posters.
I believe their life is so miserable they must find negativeism in every one else.
I wish they could get excited as My wife and I were in 1979. That was the year we converted from evangelical to LDS.
GREAT moive on our part.
Every question I had...and I had PLENTY!...was answered by prayer and scripture.

If we would all just just embrace the two commandments that all other commandments hinge upon, that is to love God and to love our neighbor, our world would be a better place, I think were failing terribly in both cases, thank God he is merciful.

Just received my copy...reading and really enjoying following the man from his beginnings. If you can get a copy, Do It. The man is a true giant and hero of religion. To read his thoughts, from his beginnings, put down in his actual journals is a true priviledge a member of the Church would enjoy.

As far as those that are negative and attack the Church or members....too bad....couldn't care less about your thoughts.

Bilbo, thanks for sharing your convictions.

Well said and I totally agree! I once took a Chemistry class as a freshman in college and was thrilled with what I learned about the laws that control the behavior of matter recorded on the pages of that book. Another person read the same textbook and only discovered a few grammer/spelling mistakes in the text and threw out all the rest. What did he gain? Not much I suppose. What did I gain? A life of learning of the marvels of Chemistry and a thrilling career in this facinating field! Both books opened my mind and heart to whole new worlds of knowledge!

Whatever | 7:29 a.m. Dec. 2, 2008
Bilbo: I have often thought of the people that attack the doctrines of the church to "spiritual terrorist". They have no nation, no credo, no doctrine and no history. On the flip side, the Church has well documented history and doctrine that can be "goggled" to death an in affect, create an attackable position.
Similar to modern day terrorist, the naysayers offer nothing of worth and build nothing but only attack and seek to destroy (hoping for what is sometimes referred to as the chihuahua affect - ie bunch annoying barking little dogs that turn people away). Similar to how the world's attempts to rid itself of these terrorist often seem futile (swinging in the dark), we need to look to the Book of Mormon learn from the lessons of the battles against the Robbers.
Hope this helps. Just my observations...
PS - Can't wait for the series. Already have a spot in my library for them all!

How edited will the papers be? What is missing or left out? There is ample reasont not to trust LDS Inc. publications if the Sunday School/Relief Society/Priesthood manuals are any indication of how honest Church publications are. I will take a look and see if all the journal pages are photocopied and placed next to the transcribed pages. Without that all is suspect due to LDS practices in the past of revising history.
Dear "No comments?" | 7:30 a.m. Dec. 2, 2008
I had the same problem a few minutes ago, in that I couldn't see the comments. I'm guessing there was a glitch on the server that kept comments from showing for a short time.

These so called 'papers' will help believing Mormons, but I'm not sure how much. They are already convinced to believe whatever comes from the mouth of their current 'prophet' and not the convictions of what Jesus Christ has taught. For $50.00, they will obtain a warm fuzzy feeling of a slanted version of the Gospel. On a positive note, perhaps many of them will find out through these 'papers' that Joseph Smith was nothing more than another man leading them down some unknown path.
Ants | 8:16 a.m. Dec. 2, 2008
How come most of the comments never show up? They must all be from all the ANTI'S. Otherwise there would probably already be 100's by now on here. Although I could be wrong? Perhaps no one cares.

How much do these journals cost?

You are just worried that the journals won't say what you want to hear.

They were not written for ONLY you.

Who has my name for Christmas? Please get me these books. I am very interested and excited. If you don't get them for me for Christmas then I will have to purchase them myself. I can hardly wait.

To those who doubt their authenticity and candor, to bad you will never have the proof you need. Even photo copies would not serve to turn away your suspicion. For the rest of us, we can hardly wait to read it. It will soon be sold out. darn. Then I can't wait for Christmas cause I will then not be able to find them. Maybe I will buy myself a copy and some for those on my shopping list. There you go. That is a better idea. then if I get one form someone, I can pass it on to others. Love it. Read it. Live it.
Cats | 8:25 a.m. Dec. 2, 2008
I just received my copy and I'm really excited. Nothing has been edited from these publications. The editors have followed strict guidelines and standards for historical research.

And to those detractors--I feel sorry for you. I know you are just trying to justify yourselves and make yourselves feel better about the choices you have made. I really hope that someday you will find some meaning in your pathetic little lives.

Joseph Smith was a flawed man just as we all are. That's why what he accomplished was such a miracle. Regardless of his human failings, he was inspired and lead by our Saviour to restore His gospel to the earth. It is the "stone rolling forth from the mountain" that will fill the whole earth.

There is only one fight going on in this world. It is between God and Satan...and SATAN CANNOT WIN! The only question is WHICH SIDE WILL WE BE ON! We must all choose to follow Christ.

Those who follow the Saviour and the Prophet will be blessed. Those who fight against the Church are only "kicking against the pricks and fighting against God." That's why I feel sorry for them.

how much and where is it? | 8:49 a.m. Dec. 2, 2008
How much does it cost. Is Deseret Book the only outlet or are there others?
OK-- | 8:53 a.m. Dec. 2, 2008
Does anyone one know if any of the Joseph Smith journals have been forged? I mean to say that there are so many different writers who have put all Joseph's thoughts and words into these journals perhaps they also slipped in a mickey or two. I'm a little skeptical.
medinauta | 9:02 a.m. Dec. 2, 2008
For many many years I was wondering WHY the church didn't made the papers in her possession to be published? WHY wait until now? Experience showed us that the church is very "careful" with this type of publications.
GCF | 9:05 a.m. Dec. 2, 2008
Sounds like the prophecies of the last days are being fulfilled...the great division is in process...

Those full of vitriol will remain so...they feed on their hatered and can't leave the Church alone...for whatever their peresonal reasons...

Those who continue in the light of their personal witness of truth (which is individual by definition) will reamain faithful still...
Melissa | 9:08 a.m. Dec. 2, 2008
The first volume costs $45. We have a copy, let me correct that and say my husband has a copy (his birthday) and he is eating it up. I would love to get my hands on it but he can't put it down.
Restored Church | 9:24 a.m. Dec. 2, 2008
If the LDS church is the restored church of Jesus Christ, then was Jesus a polygamist? And, why wasn't the true Sabbath day restored? Seems like the holiest day of the week would be restored but it never was. These are sincere questions that I have as a currently active Mormon.
To Restored Church | 9:47 a.m. Dec. 2, 2008
The Sabbath Day changed to Sunday when Jesus was resurrected. There are many references to the Sabbath Day changing to the first day of the week in the New Testament. This is something I have never understood why people have concerns about, because in my opinion is pretty clear.
