Auburn, USC and Penn State would never jeopardize the millions in cash they have
because they are on the INSIDE of the deal Eugene.
Yes it is a monopoly. Yes I too hate it. The BCS makes all the other bowls largely irrelevant. However the Broncos don't have a case for being better than any of the one-loss BCS schools or half the two loss ones either. Utah does.
Who has Boise beat? Oregon. One quality win does not a season make. Utah has three. The MWC had its best year and the WAC had a standard one.

Boise State doesn't want anything to do with TCU. The Horned Frogs would
expose Boise like Oklahoma exposed Hawaii last year. Boise will stay home and
play a cupcake on the smurf turf. That way they can keep complaining that they
deserve something for nothing.
That being said, The better match up for Boise would be (cupcake) BYU. I admit that would be a heck of a game. Something like 75 to 73.

If Boise State joined the MWC they wouldn't have this problem.
Heck, they would have lost at least three games this year and therefore not have to worry about which bowl game they go to!
Boise likes to trumpet their "gaudy" 12-0 record against the MWC, but play just one year in the MWC and I guarantee the losses will start mounting.

It is amazing how MWC fans like to talk about how good the conf is this year.
Wow let see, there are quality wins against a terrible Mich. team, and one
against Oregon State. Otherwise all of the top teams in MWC brag about is the
wins against each other. Look at the bottom of the conf. They are terrible
teams. TCU played one real game this year and was smoked. Utah has a signature
win at Michigan and oh wait didn't Toledo also win there? WOW what a great
win! MWC fans love trumpet their "gaudy conf" talk about overrated!
The MWC would be a latereal move for Boise State. If the did the move, no one
would see their games. Get over yourselves MWC, not being a part of the BCS you
are a dirty stepchild too!

BSU is and always has been a flash in the pan team. One great win a year, and
then WAC play. You can't look at past records to determine anything during
this current season. This years Oklahoma team looks like it would kill the 2006
Sooner team, but you and I will never know will we. Like said above by your
cronie, it's what happens on the field, and until the teams face up in a
game all your talk is nothing but factless retoric. BSU Fans= Blah, Blah, Blah,
Blah, Blah.

Boise State has taken care of every MWC team they've played. Good thing
Utah didn't play the Broncos this year, or Utah would have been out of BCS
bowl consideration. Until Utah beats Boise State, it's obvious which is the
better program.

Even if Boise were the best team in college sports, they have one huge factor
that goes against any other conference inviting them to join. That one HUGE
negative factor is that Boise is in Idaho!!

Georgia demolished Hawaii last year in the Sugar Bowl, not Oklahoma. Two years
ago, it was Boise State that beat the Sooners in that now famous Fiesta Bowl
game.

The main things that BSU has going for them are some pretty good (not great)
teams and very lucky timing. They hit the jackpot against BYU by playing them
during the awful Crowton years. And yes the first matchup was a BSU blowout in
Provo but the return game in Boise was almost won by BYU except the Cougars
missed a chipshot field goal with about 20 seconds left in the game. BSU dogged
a bullet thanks to our kicker. And that was against a ranked BSU at their place
in a season we ended with a losing record. BSU is good but not great like their
fans believe.

Taken care of each team BSU has played huh? I guess a one point win vs BYU was
a "taken care of" win, huh. You barely beat a down BYU team at home.
Let Boise schedule 2 MWC teams each year, like TCU and Utah, and you'll see

untested football team, and their other sports programs are very average. But
the most annoying thing about Boise State is their fans who are obsessed with
anything that relates to BYU or the Utah. We know that they are trying
desperately to get our respect, but coming onto our newspapers and dissing our
programs is not the way to do it.
Concerning "Observer's" comments, Utah would love to play you, and they would destroy you guys, probably by 30+ points. BSU has no defense. A better matchup would be BYU against BYU, but BYU would also beat Boise by at least 2 touchdowns.

BSU defeated Oregon on the road. At the time, the Ducks were ranked 17th. Utah
beat unranked Oregon State at home. Yes, OSU had beaten USC the week before,
but lowly Stanford also defeated USC the year before. The only ranked teams
(when they played) Utah has defeated are both MWC teams, TCU and BYU. Utah
barely beat TCU at home. Oklahoma easily defeated TCU 35-10, earlier this
season.
Boise State over-rated? I doubt it. It may be the Utes who deserve that honor. We will find out on 1 January.

Sorry Boise State fans, I truly wish you were able to go to a BCS game as it is
not fair at all the way the system works. You did hand it to us in Rice-Eccles
two years ago, but that was your team of destiny. Utah would have defeated you
in 2004. I don't know if you can really predict the outcome of a game
between Utah and Boise State in 2009, they are both good teams, but not great
teams. I would like to see a MCW vs. WAC playoff game for an automatic BCS
berth, unless the powers at be can join forces in a new league that is resected
enough to become a BCS conference. Go Bronco's, GO UTES!

With all the BCS conference tie-ins at lesser bowls, nobody can set up
interesting games for teams like Utah, TCU, BSU, Fresno State, or BYU.
Why would it not be good for college football to have games in which TCU plays BSU and BYU plays Ball State?
As it is, TCU will probably play in Las Vegas against a poor team and BYU will play Nevada in San Diego.

BSU may be 12-0 versus MWC teams, but none of those wins came against MWC teams
that finished in the top 2 of the conference that year. It's not too hard
to beat Wyoming year in and year out. Utah finished 3rd in the MWC in 2006 when
BSU got their "signature" win against an MWC team.
Fact is, BSU schedules timidly and then whines about not getting respect. Their out of conference slate includes cream puff teams and mid-level mid-majors (like Bowling Green and Southern Miss). They throw in a Pac-10 team here and there and when they beat that Pac-10 team they win all of their games and complain about not getting respect like USC and LSU.
And their fans honestly believe they will win a national championship in the next 5 years while playing that schedule.

I earned my undergraduate degree in the Beehive State and then off to doctoral
studies elsewhere. As a youngster I fondly remember names like Merlin Olson,
Eldon Fortie, Gordy Lee, and other legends. Following graduate school I returned
to my homestate but always followed Utah. Names like Carter, Nielson, McMahon,
Wilson,Young, Detmer, and Edwards still bring back good memories. Then add
Stockton and Malone. I miss those good days.
So what are you doing now? I read the Deseret News and Tribune online to keep in touch with my Utah roots, and am sickend with the pettiness, envy, small minded and disgusting comments made about Utah and BYU by each others fans, and now I see both of them joining together to belittle the remarkable program up the road in Boise. I cheer for the Utes, the Cougars and the Broncos.
Stop the "holy war" nonsense that the media loves and fosters. All this negative unseemly dialogue is beneath you. Stop it. Most of you are active in your church.

Boise State has lost twice to Utah. In the 80's I think. Might want to
get your facts straight. For example the average record of the MWC teams BSU
has beaten 5-6. The average finish in conference of those teams...between 5th
and 6th. The only thing BSU's record against the MWC proves is that you
along with the other top 4-5 MWC teams can beat the bottom half of the MWC with
consistency. I respect BSU, but talk to me when you are 12-0 while playing the
beat of the conference on ocassion. (See BYU's 18 or 19 game MWC win
streak before the TCU game for a more impressive resume).

Based on watching both teams this year, I'd give the Utes a 10-point edge
at the Smurf over BSU and a 20-point edge at RES. True, BSU showed us how
overrated Oregon was early in the season, but they needed a late flurry to pull
away from Hawaii, Utah State, and Nevada.
I think BSU would give BYU a good run for their money in Boise, but the Coogs' offense and home crowd would be too much for the Broncs at LES.
I like all 3 teams and agree with the earlier comments that success for these programs adds to the feelings of unfair bias with the BCS. I'd rather watch the U, Y, or BSU in a big bowl game any day than the overrated teams from the PAC 10, Big 10, etc.

Better than the Fiesta bowl against Oklahma? Geez, it's nto even better than 2004 when they played an undefeated Louisville in the Liberty bowl. The underlying reality is that no one outside of the sparsely populated high
desert cares about Boise St. They are out of the loop. Beating BSU brings the

I'm pretty sure everyone who watches college football knows who they are

The best thing teams like BSU, Utah, TCU, and team down south can do is keep
having years like Utah and BSU had this year. I puts pressure on the big boys
to break up the monopoly. The fans of all these teams need to root for each
other when one succeeds as Utah and BSU have this year and in the past.
I'll even root for the team down south if they can break the BCS. Go Utes.

I say play in the best bowl game you can get into. Sponsorships will come and go, but to play at home just because you're not sure what the sponsor will do if you don't play in your own bowl is ridiculous. Like the WAC motto says, Play Up!

It would be great to have Boise State be part of the MWC and dump Wyoming or
SDSU. To say that Boise State joining the conference would be a
"lateral" move is ridiculous. The WAC is weak and so is there
schedule which is why they are ranked behind the U THIS YEAR no matter how much
the BSU supporters complain of past history, and you wonder why there is little
outcry nationally about Boise State not getting to a BCS game.
A TCU-Boise State matchup is where they belong and I would venture a guess that TCU would be favored slightly in that game.

BSU wins in a squeaker over Fresno State! That "mediocre" team just
barely got the win, 61-10. Officials are still trying to determine why BSU was
unable to score.

Utah and BSU have a home-and-home coming up in a few years.
That BSU is 3-0 vs Utah is a good point, but none of those games have been played recently.
That BSU beat OU two years ago is another valid point.
That BSU is 12-0, a throttled Fresno today is yet another point.
But it's a money issue.
Now, as far as who is better Utah or Boise THIS YEAR, we will not know unless they play on a neutral field. That's not gonna happen. The best thing for Boise is for Oregon to beat OSU (who is minus thier star running back for the game, BTW), clearing the path for only 1 PAC-10 team to make it to the BCS. This would open up another at-large bid.
Could be that the Fiesta Bowl takes Boise---except that their rep wasn't at today's game.

I agree with your comments Jessica. I lived in Northern Idaho for several
years. Racism is in their blood. Aryan Nation groups thrive in Idaho because
of that.

After living in Boise for several years I can agree with your comments up to a
point. However, there are many good people in Idaho that don't agree with
the many racist groups headquartered in Idaho.
I do agree that it is very disturbing that Idaho tolerates these groups at all. It would tarnish our conferene's reputation to invite Boise to join.
It just comes down to the simple fact that Idaho has an image problem. The MWC needs to improve its image, not tarnish it.

Rice-Eccles or LaVell Edwards Stadiums should step forward and offer either of
their stadiums for a BSU-Ball St. match-up. Keep the Humanitarian label and
sponsorship and bring the fans in with their money.

Easy, you get the San Diego bowl committee to put up more money than the tight
Vegas Bowl folks then sign on for the WAC champ to play the MWC champ, unless
the championship team gets a BCS bid in which case they get the second
choice.
As a BYU fan who has traveled to most of the away games and bowls, I'm sick of Las Vegas and that glorified high school stadium, next to the dump, with the dirt parking lots and 4 mile back up to get out. When BYU sells the thing out as they would do in San Diego also, to play the 5th or 6th place team in the PAC-10, they still lose money with the bad payout, and gain little from playing an unranked 5-6 loss team. In fact if they could get the NCAA to go along, maybe the two leagues champs could play the same Saturday as the other conference have play-offs then pressure the BCS to guarantee the winner a spot. LVB, don't do BYU a favor pick TCU, let BYU head for San Diego.

When BYU sells the thing out as they would do in San Diego also, to play the 5th or 6th place team in the PAC-10, they still lose money with the bad payout, and gain little from playing an unranked 5-6 loss team. In fact if they could get the NCAA to go along, maybe the two leagues champs could play the same Saturday as the other conference have play-offs then pressure the BCS to guarantee the winner a spot. LVB, don't do BYU a favor pick TCU, let BYU head for San Diego.

It never ceases to amaze me at what the narrow minded people from Utah will say
on these boards. I am from Utah and am frequently embarassed by you all. You
have to remember there was not a single person that said Boise States would beat
OK two years ago, and all of you experts were expecting the sooners to roll over
the Bronco's, just as you are predicting what the score would be if BSU
played BYU, UT, and TCU. Well they don't play so you do not know. We will
however see what happens in a couple of years when BSU plays BYU four years in a
row. I hope that BSU plays TCU and we will see what happens, and we will watch
Utah get smoked, as they will not have the luxury of playing Pitt this year.

All this build up for Boise State vs BYU in a couple of years. That could be
bad for BYU because they will be breaking in a new quarterback. Boise State, I
believe, is playing a very good sophomore this year and he will only be
better.
If BSU could bring more than a football team they would be a good addition to the MWC.
I would like to see BSU play TSU. That would be the best game. BYU against BSU could possibly be embarrassing for BYU fans. The king of gimick plays against a team that never saw a gimick play it couldnt fall for. Geez.

game....The battle of the undefeted...HOWEVER the problem is the EAST COAST

I can't believe the comments on here.
First, BSU did whoop Fresno St, but it is well known that Fresno is not the team they've been in the past and they were banged up to boot.
Second, Texas would destroy Boise St. Boise State had to rally to beat Nevada. Please get serious.
Third, BSU's QB is soph Kellen Moore - our little town here in Washington played him for the state title when he was in HS. He came in being touted as the best QB to ever play HS football in WA. By halftime, we were up 40-0 with chants of "overrated" filling the Tacoma Dome. BSU and Moore have faced very weak competition this year. I'll give them their due when they beat a legitimate D1 team.

BSU fans come on here pimping their 61-10 win over Fresno, as though that should
convince their doubters how great they are. Are you serious? Is that the same
Fresno team that needed OT to beat a terrible Toledo team? The same Fresno that
gave up scores of 32 and 28 to Idaho and Utah State respectively? The same
Fresno that finished in the middle of one of college football's worst
conferences?

In '05 Boise was VERY good. In '08 Boise is slightly above average. BSU finishes at best 5-3 in the MWC this year. Watch BSU vs. Nevada and then watch a Utah or TCU game. The difference is striking in terms of speed and athleticism. Boise has no chance to beat TCU. I hope they get the opportunity to play.

I say bring Ball State to Rice Eccles Stadium and have them play BSU in the Humanitarian Bowl. That way they can claim the only matchup of two unbeaten teams this bowl season.
Why bring the game to SLC? Because Ball State will never agree to play BSU on their blue turf in Boise.
