MLS Cup: RSL bounced from playoffs

...Very frustrating game. Better luck next year.
I do have one question, how can a sport have a two-game first round of playoffs, followed by a one-game second round? By this math, the championship game would be one half, right?
How soccer of you.
The team had a great season
We always have next year!!!
thanks for everything. and taking us into the playoffs for the first time.
i'll be there for you everygame next season/
if only kries would've...
...subbed out the utterly ineffective mathis before the 90th minute.
...given andy williams more than 15 minutes to work his magic (he was sensational once he got on the pitch).
...subbed out russell instead of olave (we could've used him on those 10 corners)
...given espindola a chance to add to his goal total.
here's to next year...
We're only a few small pieces away from being one of the more dominant teams in the league.
Here's to next year!
Nonetheless, thanks for the fun season RSL. Keep your heads up, work hard over the off season, remember the confidence you gained these past games, and let's hope the management get us a true winger who can put a good cross in the box.
Truthfully, if the Dr or Findley play instead of Mathis over this stretch we do better.
Maybe Clint should stay on D though, we know he can take people out.
Yes, Olave created another NY goal...
As the team converts all the haters into supporters they will only get better!
This match was true drama and showed the nation that soccer offers something extra which no other sport can!
As to the play of Mathis last night? He stunk!!
especially in the last 30 minutes there is no excuse for why Jason Kries whould keep clint on so long. He was spent and did nothing. In the biggest game of this teams history, its most dangerous striker (Espindola) sits while Jason's boy Mathis continues his 13 game streak of 00000000 in production.
Lets hope Seattle is dumb enough to pick him up in the expansion draft. Or?? what if Kries makes him a protected player??? That would be about as dumb as playing him 90 last night.
My family paid $25.00 a ticket to see the game and all we saw was the backside of the jerks who were standing in front of us, refusing to sit down when asked. The security guards were of no help. We were there, spending 350.00 for our tickets and no help when the people in front PURPOSELY stood there just to irritate all of the fans behind, they didn't care about the game at all, they were merely there to be jerks. My dad is 82, there is no way he could stand for the entire game, and even with my 9 and 12 year old standing didn't help them at all ... nor the little kids behind us.
Shame on the security guards for not enforcing some kind of respectable behavior.
We will NEVER pay to see a game again...since we didn't see this one either.
Nice going jerks!!! We actually came to sse the game!! what a huge disappointment in the stadium the fam behavior and the whole experience.
What a RIP OFF
Soccer fans aren't baseball fans. We actually care about the game. Watching the game for us is more important than chatting on our cell phones or going to get more nachos. I think that they could have put your dad in one of the special-needs sections with the folding chairs.
I could not believe that the people in the expensive seats were actually standing up and making noise toward the end of the game.
Way to go, Prawn Sandwich Crowd!
The strangest thing I saw was some visiting fans. There aren't that many expatriate New Yorkers around here. Some of them must have stayed in hotels and paid that hotel tax. But on the other hand, seeing as they are New Yorkers, they probably boycotted our pizza.
As far as the game went, it's really unfortunate to see RSL lose on a goal that was such a fluke. RSL had loads of chances to put the ball in the back of the net but continually came up empty handed. Overall though, great play by RSL. Watching the highlights of the game on the MLS website is heart breaking, but once again, I think that this can be a glimpse of things to come in the future years of RSL soccer!
I thought the referee team actually did a really good job on Saturday. They let play go on, but called the necessary calls. Great job.
Re: born in soccer land
Espindola hasn't scored 12 goals. Where did you get that stat from? I agree that Mathis should have been subbed off earlier, but Deachar would have been the person to pull him off for. New York was packing the goal mouth and letting our wing players run free. A real crossing threat is exactly what was needed.
Glad your pops came, but I'm not going to sit just so you have a better view.
Also....next time bring a smoke bomb or two...if you can't beat em...join em.
It looks like the haters just lost one more argument. -
Tie? What tie?
Thanks to Donovan McNabb, players around the league now must know there doesn't have to be a winner or loser in every regular-season game. Yes, there are ties in the NFL. They just don't happen too often.
A day after the Philadelphia Eagles and Cincinnati Bengals played a 13-13 tie -- the league's first since 2002 -- the focus wasn't on how poorly the teams performed on the field. Instead, everyone wanted to know how it's possible some professional football players, especially a 10-year veteran such as McNabb, don't know simple rules about overtimes games.
Looks like many haters don't even know the rules of their own game.
