Readers' forum: Jesus costume should be OK

When I was a teacher, I had a kid dress up as a preacher, complete with a "Donate Money to Jesus" poster.
It was a hoot.
I love Jesus.
But it is Halloween, man.
If it were to be any other day, then it might be weird. But its Halloween, man.
I can understand, if you met a guy dressed up as Jesus, and he was trying to convince people that he was Jesus, and maybe trying to get people into doing something weird, then I could see your point. That would be weird. Imagine walking on the sidewalk and Jesus comes up and says, "Hey, I'm Jesus. I need your money for my lunch." Then you realize that it really isn't Jesus, and he's just trying to get your money.
Then we could all get upset, because some guy was imitating all that is good and holy in order to get lunch. That guy is going to go to he(ck).
Till then, lighten up. Its Halloween, man.
the devil is not a joke either, yet people dress up like him all the time
what about axe murderers or people with knives stuck in them...also not respectful, yet we don't think twice when we see it
the kid that was just shot to death...he was wearing a mask that made the crazy dude inside feel threatened and he opened fire...not that we know if it would have been better if he was wearing a Jesus costume, but the mask wouldn't have been obscuring who was there to visit
just because the kid was dressed up as Jesus does not mean it was meant as a joke - it may have been his way of balancing out halloween's focus on the occult
i dressed up in an army uniform, not as a joke about soldiers, but to respect and remember a family member currently serving in iraq
Religious people, like yourself, have an awesome ability to take themselves seriously. Your ideas are absolutely correct and anyone who disagrees is basically evil.
True believers, where-ever they manifest themselves, are dangerous to the rest of society. But, not being possessed of any degree of certainty, I hesitate to make such an assumption for fear I may grossly err. Or not.
