McCain was good...but he still lost 3 in a row. And if the election was held today, it would be a landslide for Obama. Here's hoping that the next 2 weeks bring nothing but the sameness that McCain is offering, because that will ensure a victory.

When the "wealth is spread around" we loose our basic right of free choice. Obama will take what he wants from our paychecks, and spend it how he wants. Socialism equalizes everyone at the expense of individuality and choice.
Yes, everyone will have medical care, but it will be administered to you via the government. the care that you will get will be the care that the government says you can have and in the way the government says you need it. If you want a treatment not on their list you will still have to pay for it yourself.
The cost of this health plan will equal an enormous hike in your paycheck but hey, think how good you will feel when you get to contribute to your neighbor's alcohol rehabilitation or kidney transplant.

With a Liberal moderator, asking all the questions, how could it be a fair debate.
Why don't we ever have a conservative moderator.

Never argue with an idiot! It brings you down to their level and then they will beat you with their experience. That is why Obama "won" the debate.

That's good McCain came out swinging. And he's has a point. Bush is Bush. Bush and McCain may both be repubs but that doesn't mean they share the same ideas. Obama loves to play that card, it's getting old. I would be more scared for Obama to win this race then if McCain did. When it comes to honesty, though both need lots of improvements, after seeing the True Facts after the debate Obama is much farther away from being truthful. If a person can't be honest they don't deserve to be president. I'm so sick and tired of all these so-called promises and not one will be a reality. I myself will not vote for anyone on empty promises and lies.

Funny the article raises the concept of a "national security event" at the end of the article. I'm not sure if that's a subtle hint or not, but it's dead on - no pun intended. I'm just waiting for the just-before-voting-day surprise, maybe just a video from Osama Bin Laden, something to put the fear back in the front seat. Let's see what happens about a week before election time to mess this election up. America wants change, but those against us would rather have an angry, short-tempered man in office.
It's too late! | 4:46 a.m. Oct. 16, 2008
Bush has done such a disasterous job, there's absolutely nothing McCain could say or do to change the nation's negative opinion of the republicans. They've lost their right to control anything for a while. Sadly enough, with either candidate, the next four years don't look good. With few exceptions, every incumbant that was a party to the decisions that got us where we now are economically, needs to be voted out - fired!

While neither man strikes me as the best suited for the Presidency, it looks as though the country is leaning to put in the man with no experience and questionable past associations. He has painted himself as a tax-cutting centrist who in reality is the most leftist liberal the country has seen in 40 years.
With a 9% approval rating for Congress, why is the country willing to settle for politicans from the Senate for presidential leadership? With a democratic majority in Congress, why over the past two years under a Reid/Pelosi leadership has nothing been accomplished?
I predict that democrats will win the presidency and increase their majorities in Congress, but will be so incredibly terrible in governing the country that the people will revolt with sweeping losses for Democrats in the House in 2 years and a Romney win for President in 4 years.
We are about to embark into a serious voyage of the unknown.

Barack Obama, going away. McCain looked almost frenetic at times, like he was going to ride off the rails at any moment.
This was easily the most enjoyable debate of the three. Great job Bob Schieffer!

. . and just proved himself to be an angry, crotchety old man. Obama kept his cool, hept to issues, and showed himself again to be very Presidential (and someone who has a calm hand on the tiller, so to speak). Good job, Senator Obama.
ConcernedVoter | 5:46 a.m. Oct. 16, 2008
Obama came out as a true profesional. McCain was over anxious stumbling on words and seeming upset most of the time repeating statements many times.I would hate to see McCain take over the country with an already high stress factor and not even voted in yet. Then we would have Palin? The country would suffer!
Jim III | 5:51 a.m. Oct. 16, 2008
I watched the debate last night, I am still deciding which to vote for. I am nearing a final decision.
I do not care what a poll says. Polls do not mean a whole lot to me. It is the election day results that mean something. A poll can be twisted and skewed all over the place. A voter should totally ignore what the pollsters are saying.
The old saying that says "figures never lie, but liars figure" applies to polls as far as I am concerned.

These debates are getting pointless. I am voting for McCain purely on integrity. Obama is linked to terrorists, liberalism and doesn't have enough job experience for a promotion at Disneyland yet the idiot Americans backing him purely because he is a democrat makes me nauseous. We are in the Saturday Night Live Generation where appearance and being a good "orator" is more important than integrity and being a good America to hold the highest office in the world.
God, please watch over us.

Yes, I want a president who comes out swinging...
like heck I do!!! I want the calm and reasonable guy, the one who speaks in complete sentences and makes sense. I want the guy who was a constitutional law professor. I want the guy who chose an intelligent and experienced vp.
Check you biases at the door, people, and vote for the best team!!!! Obama and Biden are our only hope to get out of this republican hole in the ground.

McCain got in some good punches, but this debate isn't going to change anyones' mind. Obama supporters are going to vote Obama, and McCain supporters will vote McCain and undecideds didn't really watch.
I loved the replay of the Howard Stern "on the street" segments in Harlem where they interviewed Obama supporters and got them to agree with McCain ideals.
People are polarized and neither candidate will back down at this point.

John McCain is a disgrace to the Republican Party. I urge you all to write-in Mitt Romney. I'd rather suffer under an Obamanation than live through 8 years of MAC, who dissed on our guy. Romney 2012!
Bush | 7:23 a.m. Oct. 16, 2008
Obama's accusation that McCain will be another 8 years of Bush's failed policies was spot on. McCain's comment about Obama running against Bush was lame. All throughout the campaign all of the republicans (before the primary) but especially McCain have completely avoided discussing their opinions of Bush's policies. This is the first time that McCain has directly or indirectly said that his policies are not Bush's policies. Saying so this late in the game might actually have been to his benefit if he had given some clear examples of relevant issues where he differed from Bush but, alas, he did not.
These stinking Republicans are so focused on party unity that they will not publicly decry Pres. Bush or his failed policies. That will be their downfall. Unless McCain comes out strong against Bush in the next week or so, he will lose the election. At least to me, I see no evidence that the Republicans have the cojones to admit that Bush is an embicile and correct his mistakes. If McCain doesn't change my mind on that before election day, my vote goes to Obama.

Don't buy into the fear | 7:24 a.m. Oct. 16, 2008
The pendulum so badly needs to swing away from where it is currently. Obama will do that. Economic prosperity has followed Democratic White House by a large margin (even not including Hoover). This will be good. The fear mongering of losing our constitutional rights, he is a terrorist, stealing our money is all hog wash and has signaled the desperation of blinded conservative politics. These are the same things we heard as Clinton ran for office in 92'. Have Hope!! Don't give in to the email/talk show paranoia politics. Those exaggerated claims never pan out and all will be good again. Don't buy the anti -Obama hype. He won't be perfect but the pendulum will swing back to center after being lodged too far right.

McCain did better than I expected, but still comes across as an angry. I thought the Lewis comment was uncalled for. Sorry his feelings were hurt. Be an adult and move on. If he wanted an apology from Lewis, let him call him, not Obama. Obama did repudiate Lewis’ remarks. McCain is an "Old washed up politician." Bye, bye.
If McCain knows how to end a war, then why hasn’t he? If he knows how to turn the economy around, they why hasn’t he? He’s been office far longer than Obama.
Taxes: Why didn't either talk about a flat tax - the fairest tax of all?
Body language: Obama won.

Obama equalizer- why dont you just keep the health plan that you already have (if you have one) that way you dont have to worry about the government health care. That to is part of Obamas health plan!! Please explain to me how you lose your right to free choice because Obama wants wealth to be spread around. Look! If your a CEO i understand, you dont need to explain, but dont forget about the people that actually do the WORK and cant even make a living. I gurrantee they are not on the golf course 5 days out of the week.
McCain needs some charisma | 7:47 a.m. Oct. 16, 2008
When watching the debates, I couldn't help but think that if I were a fence-sitter, I would have completely fallen into Obama's camp after that event. He was so much more eloquent. The fact is, McCain has the best policies, but Obama is much more personable. If you want to vote for a person you like, Obama is the clear choice. If you want to vote for the one with the best policies, McCain is it. I wish we could combine them somehow.

"I am voting for McCain purely on integrity. Obama is linked to terrorists, liberalism "
What an odd statement. McCain is an adulterer, scandal ridden - Keating 5 was the last financial meltdown in this country and he was a principle figure - he is an elitist who was born with a silver spoon and never has had an honest day's work in his life, a shady military past, so shady his father got his records sealed. He is a craven gambler.
He's also displayed horrid judgment in naming Palin.
Obama is a liberal - fine if you don't like a liberal agenda but half the country does. There is nothing dishonorable about a liberal agenda, unless you are one of the misled minority that can't distinguish between different political theories.
And links to a terrorist? Debunked. I know you don't like to hear that but it's true.
McCain is an evil, craven politician.
Obama is about change. Bring it on.

I am happy to see Obama doing so well. I knew it was only a matter of time before the people of the west would throw off capitalism. Obama will finally bring equity and justice.
Where are your sources?? | 7:53 a.m. Oct. 16, 2008
Your average citizen knows nothing and doesn't know what he/she is voting for or why. That aside, do we educate ourselves through unsubstantiated emails or biased talk show host claims? Or through objective information grounded in truth and substance? It scares me how I hear all the claims of Obama this and Obama that here in Utah and it is all from the bologna emails that your aunt Sue sends out or from listening to Hannity. Be proactive in your search and quit leaning on lies.
Hope and Change? | 7:58 a.m. Oct. 16, 2008
Did anyone actually see Obama's verbal exchange with 'Joe the Plumber'? Amazing. If you are going to vote for Obama, think about this: He wants to 'spread the wealth around.' He is going to raise taxes on anyone making over $250,000 and particularly corporations. Newsflash. Corporations DON'T pay for higher taxes. Employees and customers do. This is going to be the worst presidency in 100 years.
MMMMM.... | 8:06 a.m. Oct. 16, 2008
The republicans are the same thing...Obama is terrorist, hes going to raise tax, he is liberal and bla, bla, bla, bla, bla ...for EVER!
But how you are going to vote for thay guy that has vote more than 96% in favor for Bush' laws...and He wants to be different??? And McCain said that he is not raise our taxes, if not, is he going to get another loan from the chinese??? the next 4 years are not going to be easy and we will need to help, is not like getting money like magic from out of space, like or not will be from our taxes, we will need to sacrifice some and spend less outside for war, we already know that irakies can help themselves with money, time to talk about money with them "team america"
We need the change, we need it now!!!
Also McCain is too old, I saw him in my HDTV and he is to old and I dont want to have Folksy Fake Palin to be my president...you should know that she likes the idea for "Free Alaska" (and her husband too)

The debate was like watching the 15th round of a prize fight where one man (McCain) had lost nearly every round. McCain knew he had to throw knockout punches. He threw many, but Obama simply danced away from them. Obama just kept moving and won the fight. The reality is that this is not a prize fight, it is a presidential election. And our choice is an eloquent liberal that wants to take the country towards socialism with the aid of a liberal congress or an angry guy that does the right thing.
Keith | 8:13 a.m. Oct. 16, 2008
McCain was not my choice to be the nominee, but some of these responses are silly. Do you want a president who is a smooth talker, says a lot of words, but doesn't say anything? Worse yet, do you want a Marxist? If this is what you want, vote for Obama.
Linda in Illinois | 8:15 a.m. Oct. 16, 2008
Last night I think that McCain did a better job at explaining his ideas, and I do believe the the McCain-Palin combination has the most integrity.
I live in Illinois, where political corruption is just expected and accepted, locally and statewide. This is where Obama has been groomed for his political career! Additionally, Obama chose Biden as his running mate, a man who has been caught plagerizing a speech, lying about his education and stating that the man involved in the accident that killed Biden's first wife was driving drunk. That is untrue, Biden's wife was the driver at fault. This is slander, and these are just the dishonest acts Biden has been caught in, who knows how many other ways Biden has been dishonest. I cannot vote for a man who would choose such a running mate, in addition to being part of the very depraved Illinois political machine. God help us if the Obama-Biden ticket wins.

We are hiring a man to lead. Obama is a great public speaker. Being President involves so much more than being a good speaker. McCain is solid, and he is the one I trust. Obama can't win my trust.

My comment is for all taxpaying Americans. socialism is still socialism. You must be blind to the truth, if you vote for nobama. nobama and his gang want total government control. Open your eyes America, "THAT'S SOCIALISM". Ask Venezuela's, dictator hugo chazas, who he would vote for? Ask Russia's socialist puttin, who he would vote for. Ask Iran's dictator ,who he would vote for? ask benlauden, who he would vote for? American voters Democrat,Republican, Independent, something is very wrong with this picture??? If the greatest President, America ever had," ABRAHAM LINCOYN" were alive today, he would tell all American's, socialism will never work for beloved America !!! Wake up America ,vote for John McCain, and FREEDOM,LIBERTY, PROSPERITY and the free enterprise system will stay live and well. a word to the wise is sufficent.

Obama is smooth...too smooth. But then, I don't really like McCain much. What to do...what to do...
Is this really the best our country has to offer?
Obama can't do the things he's promised because there's no money. The government keeps trying to spend us into prosperity. That doesn't work for my family. I don't see how it can work for the country. Entitlements and pork barrel are killing the USA. Obama will have to tax someone to death to pay for everything. Then watch the economy REALLY tank.

Brace yourself for 4 years of Obama. There are enough Americans with blinders on that he'll likely be elected solely in the name of "change". He can't tell you how he'll pay for all this change, but the sheeple of the US will elect him simply for "change".
McCain isn't a whole lot better, but the lessor of 2 evils.
Maybe anti-mormon bigots across the country now will realize that Mitt Romney (also not my favorite person) might have been best suited to deal with the economic crisis we face right now. Obama getting elected now will faciliate that in 2012.

Obama was calm, cool and measured while McCain looked like he was going to freak out at any moment.
This sad man should think seriously about retirement and just lounging around in one of his 7 mansions.

Interesting to watch & listen. Those out there who are taken in by looks & polish will certainly go with Obama. They did it last time with Bill Clinton & look what we got, & they still love him. Both are highly educated, inteligent slicky boys, but where is the substance? Your right, McCain lacks polish & looks but can anyone doubt his sincerity or patriotism? No! It's true, we don't have a great choice this year, but the results of this election are going to have long term ramifications for all of us. Let's think this through folks. You don't have to worry about McCain's background or intent. Let's give Obama a few more years so we can watch him & see how he developes. If he's as good as some say he is we'll put him in then. What's the rush?

Really? I like Bob Schieffer but to blame him for the outcome of the debate is silly. Mr. Schieffer is actually a great friend of John McCain and I can't think of a single question that was asked that could be interpretted as unfair. In fact, I thought that he asked the most interesting questions of any of the debates. Which of course, doesn't mean that the answers were terribly interesting.
No matter.... | 8:47 a.m. Oct. 16, 2008
who won the debate, they are still polticians and shouldn't be trusted with our taxes. Politics is indeed dirty business...
My Thoughts | 8:54 a.m. Oct. 16, 2008
Obama will win for the simple fact that he presents a calm, confident air - an executive personnae. His policies are abysmal and short-sighted, but Americans are so easily swayed by appearance and style over substance that this is an easy prediction. My biggest beef with Obama's tax plan is that when he's taxing the wealthy and businesses beyond all belief, it won't be comforting to know that I'm getting a tax cut when I won't even have a job.
McCain, on the other hand, was so flustered last night, I thought he was going to have a coronary a couple of times. The "deer in the headlights" look, the Mickey Mouse hand gestures, stumbling over words (especially in his closing statement) will not appeal to many voters. I have more faith in him that he can deliver what he promises, but I don't see him as a someone I would vote for.
It's going to be a depressing and fear-filled 4 years no matter who is in the White House.

You're not sure how Obama will pay for change? By eliminating tax cuts that shouldn't have been given in the first place. The top 1% of the population has benefited the most from the tax cuts and they would have it repealed. They, and our economy, were doing better before those tax cuts than we are doing now. Ironically, McCain was against those tax cuts until he got desperate to satisfy the republican base. Taxing more money out of the treasury right now so the wealthy can let some extra wealth "trickle down" isn't going to pay for McCains proposed changes.

Lest there be any confusion SOCIALISM is closer to COMMUNISM that our representative republic that economically depends on capitalism.
I've done my homework and life in the UK isn't pretty. They have spent the last 60 YEARS trying to get away from socialized medicine.
Give me one example where "more government" has improved something in our country!

McCain was a little bit less grumpy than in earlier matchups. He never once called Obama "that one," and he even made eye contact with him more than once. But he couldn't control his sarcasm. His worst move was ridiculing Obama's support for abortion rights measures that protect "the health of the mother." He sneered out the words, "health of the mother," and actually framed them in air quotes. His standing with women was already plummeting; watch it drop more from here.

Everyone goes on and on about Obama's eloquence. That's exactly the problem! McCain got it right when he said you have to pay attention to words! Obama said we'll "look" at offshore drilling... aka "I'll appease the people who want offshore drilling so I get their vote but once I'm in office and they complain because I've done nothing about it, I'll simply say 'well, I only said we would "look" at it, I never said we would do it for sure'"! Obama is very good with words, and that's just the problem. He knows how to lure people in with his lies.
