ARE WE PLAYING TCU IN SALT LAKE
Ridgerunner | 1:44 a.m. Oct. 14, 2008
Great article! This is what makes college football so exciting! Mano a mano out there on the gridiron, a game within a game at every position. There is no doubt emotions will be running high for both teams. Statistically, BYU's offense is the best in the conference. No doubt TCU's game plan will be similar to what New Mexico's was; dominate the clock, keep BYU's offense off the field, hold the score low and move the chains with long, time consuming drives. BYU's game plan will certainly be to score early and be able to run the ball enough to force TCU's defense to respect the running game, and open up the passing game. Execution will win this game! Go Cougars!

Good luck Cougars! This state has been dreaming of a season like this for a long time and we are 1/2 way there. Let's cheer for both schools to move up in the polls and each be 11-0 on November 22nd.

Keep it classy on the blogs. I've been a Utah season ticket holder for nearly 30 years for both football and basketball. It's a fun rivalry and very competitive. It's fun to badger each other a little on here but let's remember, we are fighting for the same cause, to defeat the BCS structure as it exists today. Out two schools could have a winning record in ANY conference.

Good luck BYU!

GO UTES!!!!!!

I don't know why this article says Rice-Eccles Stadium. The game's in Fort Worth! Maybe the writer is over-anxious for the BYU-Utah "holy war" at the end of the season--I know I am!!
Anonymous | 2:55 a.m. Oct. 14, 2008
I am hoping that the reason they didn't use the running game on New Mexico was so they would have fresh legs for TCU. I am frustrated with BYU because I know they are better than what they have been playing the last few games.

No but Utah is....
Mark's Secretary | 4:56 a.m. Oct. 14, 2008
No Mark, "we" don't play any of our games in SLC. We play our games in Provo, but no, this game is in Texas, as the article stated. If you're a Yewt asking if the U plays in SLC, then clarify who you mean when you write "we".

BYU can also dash the dreams of TCU. Go cougs!
Now it gets serious | 5:08 a.m. Oct. 14, 2008
The top 3 MWC opponents all on the road. The real season starts Thursday.

Good luck Cougars!
Horned Frogs | 6:03 a.m. Oct. 14, 2008
All you Coug fans better not put this one in the win column just yet. Only difference between TCU and BYU (or Utah), is that TCU has played a top tier team (Oklahoma). If they had played all cup cakes they would be undefeated as well. Likewise of the Cougs or Utes had played Oklahoma in Norman, they would most likely have one in the L column.
DD | 6:06 a.m. Oct. 14, 2008
The article says BYU is playing in Fort Worth, in Rice-Eccles Stadium. Hmmm. They have a Rice Eccles Stadium too?
Eugene | 6:23 a.m. Oct. 14, 2008
Okay, here is the first test for the Cougs and spotlighted on national TV no less. BYU must make a statement here since on paper TCU could be their first quality team to beat.

Win decisively on the road and the respect will vault them into the next tier of poll-ville. Lose and the best you will get is the Lost Wages bowl and that only if you can beat Utah and Utah beats TCU.

The Quest continues Thursday night so bring your "A" game and don't let up! The eyes of the country are upon you!
Tabbytiger | 6:23 a.m. Oct. 14, 2008
And are we playing Friday night instead of Thursday ?
Nope | 6:28 a.m. Oct. 14, 2008
The TCU game is in Ft. Worth, Texas.
Sanity | 6:32 a.m. Oct. 14, 2008
Yes you are playing TCU in Salt Lake City.
The week after you lose to New Mexico in Albuquerque!
In Mark's defense | 6:55 a.m. Oct. 14, 2008
The article states that the game is being played at Rice-Eccles Stadium. Unless TCU's stadium is also named Rice-Eccles Stadium, that's a misprint that could send many BYU fans to SLC to cheer on the Rams.
Be Real | 7:00 a.m. Oct. 14, 2008
TCU is no walk in the park. They may be the best team in the MWC. If BYU doesn't bring their "A" game to Texas, it will be a Texas Whoopin' on Saturday. So all you Cougar fans talking smack the past few days had better buckle up for the ride of your life as it will be two hours of football instead of two hours of yawning when you play USU.

How many weeks has it been since BYU beat UCLA? How many wins does UCLA have this year?
I love Halloween | 7:14 a.m. Oct. 14, 2008
It's so fun seeing all the kiddies dressed up in their costumes -- little Ute trolls dressed up as frogs is so cute.

-----------------

Speaking of frogs, I've heard frogs-legs is considered a delicacy in the South. The should enjoy feasting on frogs while they're in Texas.

Go Cougs!!!
TO: ridgerunner | 7:19 a.m. Oct. 14, 2008
If it is "mano a mano" with TCU, is ti "mano (BYU) a womano" when we play the yewties?
Texas Coug | 7:20 a.m. Oct. 14, 2008
We are converging on TCU this Thursday night by the truck loads! This is going to be a dog fight. This is where we find out how good or bad our beloved Cougs are. If we win, it will represent the best win this season for us of a super quality opponent. Plus, it will kill the chief arguement of our "little red headed step brother child" that "big brother BYU" hasn't played or beaten a quality opponent. If we win, I look forward to hearing Utah fans try to come up with some other thing to explain away our season...if we lose then we will know who we are and what we have to do to improve. Great time to RISE AND SHOUT!
It's all good | 7:21 a.m. Oct. 14, 2008
If the Cougs lose Thursday Nite, and the utes when out, then it becomes a one game season on Nov 22 and do I like our odds with a Cougar team that has nothing to lose and a Brian Johnson lead team with everything to lose. That would be fun.
Ernest T Bass | 7:31 a.m. Oct. 14, 2008
I smell an upset. TCU 21 BYU 10
Dutchman | 7:41 a.m. Oct. 14, 2008
This will be a closely fought contest but TCU will win. Utah will beat Colorado State on Saturday. When the first BCS poll comes out on Sunday Utah will move ahead of BYU. Mark my words.
Why we'll win... | 7:55 a.m. Oct. 14, 2008
We won't run much on TCU, but we'll pass for about 450 yards. They're the No. 1 D because they've only played one passing team (and got beat). Their offense in not scary in the least. And is it possible to have a bigger ego than Patterson?
geezer | 7:58 a.m. Oct. 14, 2008
This is going to be a big test for BYU. TCU is good and deserves to be respected. However, some of the naysayers may be in for a disappointment. I listened to Dave Fox on the KJZZ Powerhouse last night. He gives the Cougars little chance. Maybe he's right, but I think the Cougars can win this game. I think it'll be close and very tough. BYU 27-24.
Correction | 7:59 a.m. Oct. 14, 2008
they will be dashed.
COUGAR UNITED | 8:01 a.m. Oct. 14, 2008
Wish I could've made this game. We will probably have 1/3 of the fans there. I'll be cheering hard from Seattle! GO COUGS!!!!!!!!!!

BYU will end up a big red smear on the face of the field.
Forget it | 8:17 a.m. Oct. 14, 2008
When BYU played UCLA, UCLA was still of high opinion in the football world. Just because they've continued to lose means that BYU's schedule strength suffers. But when they played it wsa to be quite the contest. And who knows how UCLA's season would have been had BYU not thumped them so badly.

Schedule strength will even out as the season progresses, which means the Utes will have to struggle to hang on to BCS ranking while BYU will slowly climb in ranking. Don't forget that BYU and Utah had similar opponents in Weber/USU/Northern Iowa.
Blue Boy | 8:22 a.m. Oct. 14, 2008
RE: Anonymous (red smear) and others

TCU deserves to be respected and this will be a tough test for BYU. I believe BYU can win this game. They just have to play one of the best games of the season to do so. Can BYU's offense score against TCU's tough defense? I think the game hinges on that question. Coug fans- Don't be fainthearted over remarks from the naysayers. BYU is a very good team and will play like one Thursday.
Re It's all good | 8:23 a.m. Oct. 14, 2008
I think you're fogetting something bro: If both teams win out neither team has anything to lose. That's the beauty of it! It would be a great game! Now, get over yourself and relize that the world doesn't just revolve around BYU, and there are some other good teams out there. Ever heard of a team called Alabama?
t-bone | 8:26 a.m. Oct. 14, 2008
How long ago:
BYU played UCLA in week 2 and they are 2-4.
Utah Played Michigan in week one and they are 2-4.

Sounds pretty similar to me...
Nate | 8:28 a.m. Oct. 14, 2008
I like BYU's chances in this one. We're going up against a mediocre offense. They may score some points, but I'm guessing it will be under 20. On the other side of the ball, they may have a great defense, but over the course of the game the BYU offense can score against anyone. It will be close, but Max & co. will turn out to be too much for the TCU offense to keep up with.
re cougar united | 8:39 a.m. Oct. 14, 2008
Dear Cougar United,
I am quite certain that your hope of having 1/3 of the crowd be zoobies on a Thursday evening down in Texas is completely unrealistic.
Maybe in Logan a few weeks ago, a town that is a few hours away on a weekend evening, playing a team that has struggles to get fans to come, yes, that is possible. But not for this game.
Regardless, I am hoping for a close game, I love upsets.
Time for 4 Quarters | 8:39 a.m. Oct. 14, 2008
BYU seems to have turned their intensity on and off against USU and NM. They did what they had to - like the last defensive stand against NM - but seemed to be sleep walking over long stretches of both games. UCLA and Wyo was by comparison a full 4-quarters of intensity. We will have to play a full game Thursday and I'm confident the Cougs know that and will do that!

Diagnosis of Earnes T Bass - Is he a Cougar fan, a Ute fan, or does it just depend on the day? I appreciate that he uses his name but I have to admit it is hard to tell where his allegiance lies on any given day. My guess - he is a jack or former Mormon who still hangs on to some love for BYU but takes swipes at the Church and the Cougs whenever he gets the chance - despite some lingering love for the Cougs that comes out on his better days.

Re: Anonymous

In all my years of watching football, I have never seen a team end up as a big red smear on the face of the field. It'll be interesting to see if your prediction comes true. It'll tell me a lot about your football knowledge.
BYU BLUE | 8:44 a.m. Oct. 14, 2008
I will mark your words "Dutchman"! It will be a close contest, but TCU will not be the winner. BYU will win with an explosive offense and a "steller" tough & optimistic defense! Did you see Oklahoma pass on TCU?

Baby, "You can Rise and Shout because the Cougars offense will be out!" The O-Line is domonant this year! They have allowed only ONE Sack! Yes, only 1-sack through 6-games.

Now Dutchman, mark my words: BYU can play with the Big Boys this year, and Mr. T said it best in Rocky III: PAIN! TCU will suffer the wrath of the Big O-line and experience the pounding of Harvey & Fui as Austin & Pita run wild in the secondary!

Cougars - 31
TCU - 10

That's all I have to say about that!
GO COUGARS!
Loss a brewing | 8:44 a.m. Oct. 14, 2008
I predicted at the beginning of the season that both BYU and the U will each have one loss before they meet each other. This game is going to the Frogs. Sorry BYU say goodbye to BCS. But don't worry Utah will have their chance to lose too.
Ron | 8:48 a.m. Oct. 14, 2008
If the Cougars want it badly enough, the win will be theirs.
If they both want it badly enough, the win will be BYU!

WANT IT & WIN IT BYU!!
Correction | 8:51 a.m. Oct. 14, 2008
"BYU will end up a big red smear on the face of the field."

should read:

BYU will end up with a big red smear on their uniforms from what's left of the Utes.
RE: 50 year ute fan | 8:54 a.m. Oct. 14, 2008
I agree with you all they way! Go Utes and Cougs! Of course come 11/22 I bleed blue baby, GO COUGS!
RE;50 YR UTE | 8:56 a.m. Oct. 14, 2008
I AGREE WITH ALL THE WAY. I'VE BEEN A BYU FAN FOR NEARLY THAT MANY YEARS AND I HAVE NEVER ROOTED AGAINST UTAH UNLESS THEY WERE PLAYING BYU.IN FACT THE BCS YEAR FOR THE UTES---- I WANTED THE UTES TO WIN BECAUSE IT MEANT BCS FOR UTAH AND THAT WAS THE BIGGER PICTURE, AS YOU SAY. LETS ALL BE TEAM PLAYERS, AFTER ALL WE ALL LIVE IN THE SAME SPOT ON EARTH. GO MWC!!!!
Cougar 4 | 8:56 a.m. Oct. 14, 2008
If Max Hall will spread the ball around, BYU dismantles the Frogs. If not it will be a close game. I'm expecting a lot of different folks will get touches. BYU wins and strikes more fear in the MWC.

Frog Legs? | 8:58 a.m. Oct. 14, 2008
Horned lizards are a genus of the Phrynosomatidae family of lizards. The horned lizard is popularly called a "horned toad," "horny toad", or "horned frog," but it is neither a toad nor a frog. The popular names come from the lizard's rounded body and blunt snout, which make it resemble a toad or frog. There are 14 species of horned lizards in North America, 8 of which are native to the United States. The largest-bodied and most widely distributed of the U.S. species is the Texas horned lizard.
