Bingham????? | 12:46 a.m. Oct. 14, 2008
Maybe Parry went to Bingham. I know Bingham has been putting away their opponents pretty easily, but there's no way Bingham should be rated so high. Just barely below Alta?? NO way. Apparently, you can lose 2 games, and be rated pretty high. Hmmmmmm. A little nepotism maybe?
Anonymous | 7:21 a.m. Oct. 14, 2008
I agree. How is Cottonwoods rating so low. Bingham is overrated anyways.

whoever this guy is, he went to bingham for sure
Anonymous | 8:18 a.m. Oct. 14, 2008
cottonwood should be higher and bingham should be a lot lower.
Dave | 9:01 a.m. Oct. 14, 2008
At least he's got Timpview where the belong, nowhere near as good as Alta, Layton, or Bingham. I have no respect for a team who is afraid to play a tough opponent.
anonymous | 9:04 a.m. Oct. 14, 2008
Sky View bot ranked good, Go Cats
Football Fan | 9:06 a.m. Oct. 14, 2008
to Anonymous and Bingham????...... And I'll bet you're glad your teams don't have to play BINGHAM. Three years ago , how many games did Skyline loose before they won the title?
I'm Just a Girl but... | 9:37 a.m. Oct. 14, 2008
To all you Bingham Haters...

It is time to wake up!!! Bingham is here and they are the real deal... Hate all you want but Bingham will take state this year...

I totally have to agree with Dave... Maybe Timpview will be ranked a little higher when they play a team that is worth something
hsfootballfan | 10:00 a.m. Oct. 14, 2008
For anyone who thinks for one second that Timpview and Cottonwood couldn't play with any 5A team then you just don't know football. I would love to see an 8 team format with 4 teams each from 4A & 5A open the season playing one or two weeks against each other. It would be great to see Alta/Timpview, Bingham/Cottonwood,Layton/Sky View, Northridge/Pine View etc. And before anyone gets upset about the teams I put.........it's just teams I thought would be good games but there are a lot of teams that would be fun to watch. The teams could go in a two year series and rotate home and home and then use different teams.
FRiDAY NiGHT RiDER | 10:15 a.m. Oct. 14, 2008
I agree with you hsfootballfan... it would be awesome to have some great pre season play, and the best thing about it, is all the teams involved will only grow and be stronger when the season and playoffs start!
reply:hsfootballfan | 10:19 a.m. Oct. 14, 2008
Your asking for a 8 team format, you must be working for the BCS or something, cuz it ain't going to happen.
Anonymous | 10:28 a.m. Oct. 14, 2008
Hey everybody...lets look at the facts. There are some really great football teams in Utah, but non of them can truly compete with a team that only plays varsity for a half. I am talking Timpview, and Cottonwood. thats it. 4a is better than 5a.

Parry's Guide has nothing to do with Bias. It has everything to do with formulas. His power rankings and the computation of a set formula made by computers. The only thing it considers is cold hard stats that both teams produce. To answer the other question on how many losses Skyline had before it won the 2005 title. The answer is 5. They were 5-5 heading into the playoffs.

I respect your knowledge on high school football.

Can you rate and comment on the top 5 qb's and the top 5 rb's in the state? It also just might stir the pot a little.

I am sorry "R.L. <3 #13"...

You are right i am not very educated on Hunter football and i haven't seen any of Hunters games this season but just looking at their stats and it really doesnt look like they could do anything agianst Bingham... Sorry I just dont see hunter winning this game.

Jobs and bums...

I have a job... and i can do this at the same time... its called multi-tasking

To poster at 11:45-
I must admit that I am in no way, shape, or form as knowledgable about individual players as I am teams. In fact, I don't even think I am extremely knowledgable about the teams either, but I enjoy watching so, I pick up a lot of info. Since I have only actually seen very few QB's and RB's in person, my rankings are bias, and, in honesty, come from the D-News stats board.

As far as QB's, you can't argue Jeff Manning of Logan. He is a force to be reckoned with. I also like Cole from Northridge. He is listed as a leading passer and rusher. It is always good to have a flexible QB. Carlsen from SV clearly is an amazing QB, seeing how Sky View has kinda been hurt with him out. Romero of Cottonwood, Olsen of Alta, and Kuresa of Mtn. Crest are also QB's that I think are very good.
FRiDAY NiGHT RiDER | 2:31 p.m. Oct. 14, 2008
As far as RB's, like I said earlier, Northridge QB is a great runner as well. Williams of Layton is doing awesome as well as Langi of Bingham. I think Sofele of Cottonwood could possibly be the best RB in the state, but Ence of Pine View could be as well. Timo out of Snow Canyon is also a great QB that can run. Falsev for Sky View is amazing, and every time I see Lofthouse of Mtn. Crest run the ball, it takes at least 4 people to bring him down.

Like I said, these are very bias and based on the D-News stats, so if there are great QB's and RB's out there that I am missing, please let me know! I would love to chat more about them with people who are more knowledgable of individual players!

-ps to I'm Just A Girl

I think you are probably right about my prediction of score for Bingham and Hunter. I am not very good at guessing the scores. There is no doubt that Bingham will win, but for some reason, I just see this game as being a close one for Bingham, every team has one.
ALTAFAN | 3:09 p.m. Oct. 14, 2008
Just a couple of things to get out there... Anonymous @10:28, With the exception of 2 maybe 3 games Alta's varsity team has only been playing half the time. For all the doubters out there I'm just a girl but... is right. Bingham is a good team, they are the real deal. Anyone that thinks their team is better, when in the last 3 years have you beat them? (only 3 schools can claim that by the way) On another note Cwood and TV are good teams. They would hang with a lot of good 5A teams. I'm not going to say they would be the best but they would be good. Personally I'm excited to see Cwood in the mix next year. TV is good but until they quit denying our requests to play them (for the last 2 years) I'm never going to say they're the best. Look at the facts people the trophy has been in the same 5 mile stretch for the last 2 years and looks like it might be again. 5 Mile Club all the way!
To Friday Night Rider | 4:24 p.m. Oct. 14, 2008
Sounds like you know your qb's from the north. I like Cole a lot. Some good qb's from SL Co are Soter, Hart and Olsen. Soter's good on a bad team and Hart is good on an okay team. Olsen and Soffe could be much better (stats) if their offenses opened up. Lewis from UT Co is good with his arm and legs. Romero benifits from a good team (not very accurate). Kuresa looks like a good system qb. A lot of gimick routes with very good recievers.
Just my opinion.
Timpview 3rd in the West. | 4:24 p.m. Oct. 14, 2008
its simple...look at the facts...Timpview is ranked 3rd in the west. 17th in the nation. I dont see any other utah teams up there, i dont agree with that, but those are just the stats. you can puff your chests all you want, but if timpview is coming your way, they will graciously knock your helmet off. if you dont believe me look at rivals.com go to the high school section, top 100.
Re: Jobs | 4:29 p.m. Oct. 14, 2008
I didn't mean to offend anyone about their comments and having so much time on the Boards. Its just Funny that we are all on here everyday commenting on HS Football. I was just curious if anyone else out there didn't have a Job like me and really enjoy reading and posting on these boards. Keep up the Posting and comments as they are really good most of the time except when someone comes on and talks trash with no knowledge of what is going on. My Son Plays at CW and the Job comment was a Joke as I am not a Bum, Just don't have to work if I don't need to again. I Love Football Season and these Boards are Great Entertainment. My Favorites are FNR, TBLF and Altafan. I am starting to warm up to I'm Just a Girl But, I think she really went to Bingham as she is way Pro Bingham.

To poster at 4:24 thanks for the info. I really would like to get more into the individual players next year, and finish off this year paying more attention. Being a Mtn. Crest Alum, I have got to see Kuresa play more than the others. The thing I like about him is his accuracy. He has a great percentage of completed passes, but that is also because he has good recievers. The other thing I LOVE about him, is he is only a sophomore. Like it or not, a Sophomore leading one of the best 4A teams shows he is a good quarterback, I can't wait to see what he can do the next two years. Looking at the stats, I was kind of shocked to not see Timpview leading everything. I really think it is because they have an amazing O and D line that help them a lot, and even though they have great stand out players, they all are good! As much as I hate Timpview (and only because they best MC last year in the playoffs) they are a GREAT team and deserve some respect. No matter what 30 wins in a row is HARD!

I love to read about HS Football in Utah - It really is too bad that the teams aren't competitive nationally (...with the exception of Timpview I suppose - which squeaked its way into the top 100 at 20...but remember they are playing teams FROM Utah...)

When we are getting 25,000 fans to a HS football game every Friday night these teams had better show up to play - and Texas High Schoolers know how to put on a show.

I mean c'mon...you can even check out the great state debate on ESPN.com - an entire feature about the top teams in the US - right here in Texas!

Unfortunately (for you) there's just no comparison.
Utah Fan Texas HS | 9:05 p.m. Oct. 14, 2008
Ya that sounds just like a Texan probaly one who has never played. Hands down Texas football should be better on population size alone. But I work in Texas alot and you sound just like one of those beer belly frying pan belt buckle blowhards who still has one last play in them. I bet you could throw a ball clean over our little Rocky Mountains.
Re:Utah Fan Texas HS | 9:27 p.m. Oct. 14, 2008
Yep Right over that Hill, put me in Coach I can win it for us. Are you uncle Rico?
re:ALTAFAN | 9:55 p.m. Oct. 14, 2008
you are bragging about a school 5 miles away winning the championship 2 years ago?

thats stretchin a long way to come up with something good to say about the region...Northridge won 3 in a row, then Davis (5 miles away) won a championship 3 years later, making 4 out of 6 championships go to schools 5 miles apart...but you don't see anyone bringing that up because it is stupid...
To TEXAS HS FB | 10:09 p.m. Oct. 14, 2008
First off you have no life coming on to a UTAH website to rag on Utah teams. By pure numbers you should have a lot better teams. You have 23 million people in Texas while Utah has 2.5 therefore you should produce about 9 times as many quality teams. Timpview and Cottonwood are in the top 100 (according to maxpreps.com) therefore you should have around 18 teams in the top 100 just by population! Get real bro and stay in your worthless state of Texas.
Anonymous | 10:24 p.m. Oct. 14, 2008
For everyone who thinks Mr. Parry graduated from Bingham. . .no. As a Bingham alum, I ordered the 2007 Bingham Alumni Directory. I counted no fewer than 81 Bingham alumni with the last name of "Parry" as students. None of them have the first name of "Edward". It must be a pen name to hide his real identity! YEAH, THAT'S IT! He's biased and wants to hide it! The truth is out there! (Cue "X-Files" Theme)
Parry is a Farce | 10:33 p.m. Oct. 14, 2008
MrObvious - Parry has little to do with stats. A lot of it has to do with how the school has done over the past few years and their classification. I am a Bingham Alum and I've followed them pretty close over the past few years. 2 years ago, despite being the only undefeated team in 5A late in the season, they did not get that much respect from Parry. Now Alta and Bingham get the highest ratings because they are the recent state champs.

Look at Brighton (86.9) and Kearns (90.7). Brighton is a traditional power but is 1-7 with losses to mid-tier teams like Davis, Hunter, and Spanish Fork. Kearns is a traditional underachiever but 5-3 this year with losses to Alta, Bingham, and Skyline. Kearns even beat Brighton in week 1. Last week they were nearly identical on their "Parry rating". Brighton this year is not nearly as good as Kearns. I think Parry had Brighton swcored a little higher last week. Amazing what a convincing win over Taylorsville will do for the "Parry rating" of a traditional power.
True Blue Layton Fan | 10:44 p.m. Oct. 14, 2008
Region 1 has been in a hiccup for taking state lately, but Layton going to the big dance was a step in the right direction. Lot of young QBs in Region 1. Unfortunately, for Layton, this 'could be' the best year in a few to come. Trying to be optimistic, but it's all played out on the field. (always keeping an eye out on the JV & Sophs to think of the future teams.....just as the coaches do)
TEXAS HS FB | 10:49 p.m. Oct. 14, 2008
Hey Utah Fan Texas HS -

"probaly" is spelled "probably"

and "alot" is actually "a lot"

Guess what...I lernt all that in good ol' Utah where I went to HS.
re: I'm just a girl but.... | 11:05 p.m. Oct. 14, 2008

Hey Anonymous | 7:20 a.m. Oct. 15, 2008
You posted at 22:24 on 10/14

You obviously graduted from Bingham.

Parry's has 2 predictions. NOLAND Parry assigns a power number to each team and predicts the team with the higher number to win.

James EDWARDS is a staff member at the D-News and he just picks the team he thinks will win.

Edward's pick is in the last column. Parry's is in the first column. The stuff in the middle is Parry's smoke and mirrors to make it look like he knows what he is doing.

Maybe you ought to look again in your directory and see if you have a Noland Parry or a James Edwards. No clue who Edward Parry is or how he relates to this discussion.

TBLF. It is true that winning is important and we haven't been doing much of that on the sophomore level, but I have to say, the coaches in general have taught our son so much about integrity and character that I look forward to -win or lose- sending our other two boys to LHS because we know that Coach Batchelor and his staff "get it". They know the real importance of high school sports. And that is developing our kids to be good people and productive after high school.
