This was a great game..both teams did good but I think without Williams Layton would have lost that boy is strong and fast hope he stays healthy now that he's getting back to normal

I am from Salt Lake and have followed region 1 all season. All I can say is the Salt Lake schools better watch out. Region 1 can play some football top to bottom. There are no Hillcrest or West Jordan's up here. Watch out Bingham and Alta. They play some defense up north. Let the play-offs begin!

We are so proud of you Titans. You gave Layton a great game and you had them worried. You deserve alot of respect and have come along way. You have proved you can play with anyone. You play with alot of heart and we will forever be TITAN FANS!!!!!!!!

YEAH BOY!!!!!!!!
STaring at possible 2nd straight undefeated region 1 championship. Not sure how many yards or what his completion rate was, but Layton's QB Cam Applegate was on fire! I think tonight, it was determined Thomas Bryson is now a go to guy as a receiver, where earlier this year, it was stated that there was no go to guy. As a QB, you always want and need a go to guy. Always.

Way to go Thomas Bryson. This was your game. Up to 13 sacks on the year. More colleges will come calling with nights like this.

Syracuse, hats off to you. Well battled war in the trenches. Your linebackers are studs. No wonder you've only given up a TD on the average. Good game boys.

Can't speak for the team but for this fan, the titans have my respect. Good job to the coach and especially the players.
To Region 1 | 8:46 a.m. Oct. 11, 2008
What are you saying, Bingham and Alta don't play defense. Bingham's defense was suffocating against Riverton last night and if you've been watching the Alta scores you can see teams are hard pressed to score at all against them. All we heard last year was about Layton's "three horseman" backs and what an overpowering defense they had. Alta held the backs to negative yards and cruised to a win in the championship game. We all knew the real championship was the week before with Bingham. Props to Alta who is again outstanding this year. The brackets are set...Bingham will play Layton in round three at Rice Eccles on Nov 13 at 10:30 am....that is if Layton can get past Jordan or Skyline in the second round. We'll see who plays defense that day. The real defensive battle will be the following week between Bingham and Alta for championship.

There was a guy commenting yesterday on here that said Syracuse was going to get blown out, where is he now?
OK!!!!!!! | 9:01 a.m. Oct. 11, 2008
Thanks for setting us know!!!! I love it when a region one fan poses to be from Salt Lake. Anyway, they say there good every year, and there not. Until someone from up there beats one of the 2 TEAMS from down here you wont have any respect. When you have a bunch of mediocre teams they look like there good against each other but there not.

we came(in under the radar screen), we saw, we conquered. a classic Roman adage that matches our mascot. watch out next wednesday viewmont! the Layton High Lancers are going to...Veni, Vedi, Veci!

GOOOOOO BIG BLUE!!!!!

This was Thomas Bryson's game of the year! 4 sacks, I think puts him near top in the state in sacks with 13, and at least 6 receptions. Cam Applegate was awesome also. Not sure of the completion ratio or how many yards, but he was dead on target.

You guys fought a tough battle, as the Syracuse D was definately stingy. The Cuse linebackers are studs!
Dave Thomnas | 10:28 a.m. Oct. 11, 2008
Fine game to watch. Stanford is lucky and so is Airorce. They have two fine athletes coming their way. Laytons offense is still not back on track. If they find it they will be hard to beat.
defense | 10:43 a.m. Oct. 11, 2008
Great defensive game. Both teams played with heart. Congrats to Layton. Syracuse front four on defense and Layton front four are awesome.
Light Blue | 10:52 a.m. Oct. 11, 2008
That is such a naive statement, if a Layton didn't have a Williams I think they would have lost well lets play the dumb post what if game...
*I think that if Syracuse played better football they would have won.
*I think that if Layton had Lavaun Jackson back 100% they would have won more easily
*I think that if #17 for Layton didn't play that the whole Syracuse team would not be seeing tweety birds still today, including pile driving you QB four times and hurrying passes three others!!! your tackles will be running laps all week for that showing.
I'm A Syracuse fan from here on out, you guys are a great team to keep it close. I'm just not a fan of the 'what if' posts Layton dumped almost twice as many yards on you but still we were all in the stands when time expired. GREAT GAME both teams now lets beat some SLC schools in STATE!!!
Light Blue | 11:15 a.m. Oct. 11, 2008
SLC is already poking there posts in here cuz they have nothing to talk about agains there Jr. High teams in their region. We have been entertained thanks for the hard hitting compitition up north and Re 1, wow i can't wait to see Jordan and or Skyline we prob won't get both where can you find the brackets for 08 5A playoffs? we'll get to see where SLC stands when you get NorthRidge in the first round and Syracuse in the second. Ouch look alive
Realist | 11:21 a.m. Oct. 11, 2008
Not very convincing to me. Syracuse and the slow-motion offense sin't very hard to stop.

Layton has the Utah Jazz syndrome, once they lead they pull back on the reins way too early. That is why they lost to cottonwood.
The sad thing | 11:29 a.m. Oct. 11, 2008
With the expection of the clearfield game Layton hasn't "won" a game. Every other team they have played has lost the game. Davis- inside the red zone 6 times and only come away with 1 score. Nothridge- have a PAT type field goal to win but instead go for it. Syracuse missed 5 tackles on a 3rd down late in the game that would have gotten them the ball back up 10 to 7. Case in point Layton is a good football team that will get beat by football teams that dont shoot themselves in the foot like Alta and Bingham. True Blue Layton fan it is "The Truth" and everybody who has followed Layton High football this year knows it.
laytonmanager | 11:45 a.m. Oct. 11, 2008
i have to say, being out there with those boys, up close, it really makes you appreciate them even more, they work so hard. THE LANCERS CREATE LEGENDS... this year, will be one to talk about forever. these boys ROCK!
keep working hard boys, you got this!
To: No.1. Lancer Alum | 11:57 a.m. Oct. 11, 2008
Since when was Layton under the radar any time this year? They are always talked about Layton in the papers. This game was a good one. I think Syracuse could have taken it just had a bit too much mistakes. Hopefully we can show teams that region 1 is some teams you dont wanna mess with.
Re: No.1. Lancer Alum | 12:06 p.m. Oct. 11, 2008
Under the radar? You guys are probably the most hyped up team in the state with all your stupid gimmicks and nicknames. I hope you are just goofing off, cause your comment looks like you're a pre-teen.
Representing All LAYTON Fans | 12:55 p.m. Oct. 11, 2008
This is not the same team as last year, this Region play has been a grind, and great to watch.!! Other than a miss represented cheerleader. I have not seen a post that says Layton is better than Alta or Bingham., for that matter we welcome the chance to play either or both. this Layton team playes both sides of the ball 48 minutes. Layton doesn't have the luxury to play one side of the ball, then coast the second half of the game cuz of week compitition.

***DON'T TAKE THIS REGION WIN AWAY FROM A TEAM THAT EARNED EVERY BIT OF IT, THE HARD WAY!!! WINNING CLOSE GAMES, LOOSING A KEY RUNNINGBACK KEY OTHER PLAYERS TO INJURY, AND A DEAR FRIEND AND TEAMMATE. KADE COOPER.***

This Region is tough and there is a True Champion up here.

LANCER PRIDE FOREVER!!!!!

Layton can loose both games and still be region CO champs and get #1 seed!! way to wrap up a tough schedual good luck at State
Congrats Syracuse | 1:26 p.m. Oct. 11, 2008
At least you can say that you were ranked in the top five for ONE week. GO LANCERS!!!
True Blue Layton Fan | 2:04 p.m. Oct. 11, 2008
If somebody was referring to me about predicting a blowout, then it wasn't me. I don't think 26-9 is a blowout. I thought it would be a close game til the 2nd half or 4th qtr, and then Layton pulls ahead. Well, down 7-10, they scored the last 10 pts of the game. and won.

To "sad thing". Plain and simple, your post is a sad comment. You better start studying champion and good teams at all levels and look at who games are won/lost against. Super Bowl champs play close games. Today, #1 Oklahoma got beat. USC got beat a few weeks ago. Remember the Fiesta Bowl when Boise St beat Oklahoma? Anything can happen.

Great teams pull out the close games. Good teams lose them. Bottom line, Layton is a 4 pt loss (vs. Cottonwood) from an undefeated season. Another bottom line, a 'W' is a W.
True Blue Layton fan | 2:16 p.m. Oct. 11, 2008
Stupid gimmicks & nicknames? goofing off? pre-teen comments?

dude.....you're sounding pretty immature with these comments. Why don't you comment on some FOOTBALL!!!

I know Layton football is about winning. Sure, we haven't seen as consistent as a tradition as some other schools. But we proved last year and again proving it this year, we are a force to be reckoned with. Somebody mentioned 'if' we can get by Jordan & Skyline. Well, I hope so. I want to say Layton should get by them.

By the way, for the record. Layton beat Skyline last year 49-0 and beat Jordan this year 35-14. They'll take these games into their review room and see where they can improve on both of these good teams. Just because Layton beat them, they better take them seriously. Jordan's offense is starting to click.

Short week boys. See you at Viewmont.
True Blue Layton Fan | 2:35 p.m. Oct. 11, 2008
Light Blue, thanks for mentioned and honoring Kade Cooper. He had many close friends, including my daughter.

Layton's Kade Cooper died earlier this year doing what he loved best, playing football with his teammates. This year is dedicated to Kade.

Long live the tradition of Layton Lancer football.
Go Bingham Blue | 4:25 p.m. Oct. 11, 2008
As I have stated recently, If Layton gets the chance to play Bingham in the semi's there will be many TRUELY BLUE LAYTON FANS!! Until then, good luck Layton.
Re: go bingham blue | 5:05 p.m. Oct. 11, 2008
You are suposed to beat a team that has 40 less players and a product of a thousand less student body. No one was 'blue' when a better Alta team beat us last year we were happy to see Layton keep the Alta under twenty points something you haven't done yet. No one will be 'blue' if a better bigger Bingham or Alta team beats us this year. The real pain in sport is when an underdog puts together a perfect game and sends the big dog home. That is the definition of pain. Make sure you beat Layton because if you don't you will hear about it on these posts for decades.

Layton represents better than anyone else on these posts and there is only one way to keep us quiet., GOOD LUCK ALL BLUES!!

Well said.
The Rodfather | 6:44 p.m. Oct. 11, 2008
Fantastic job Titans. Coach Batch has done a great job in Layton Coach Jones and his coaches have worked miracles to quickly establish the Titans program. Look out Region 1 for the Titans in the future and the '08 season isn't over yet. BTW who screwed up the makeup of Region 1 next year. I can't believe they're moving Davis and Viewmont out of the region. Who's brillant idea was that.
Can't wait to see the Titans on Wednesday night.
To: The Rodfather | 7:09 p.m. Oct. 11, 2008
Davis and Viewmont aren't leaving region 1, that was just a proposal. Region 1 is exactly the same next year with Roy added. FYI
RE: The Rodfather | 7:27 p.m. Oct. 11, 2008
You don't even know what you are talking about. Davis and Viewmont are not going anywhere. They are going to stay in region 1 next year with Roy joining the region.
What?? | 7:39 p.m. Oct. 11, 2008
Layton all about winning??? That must have just been the last 2 years cause before that they were the doormat of the state. And there still not that good!!!!
We Know!!! | 7:58 p.m. Oct. 11, 2008
We know we'll hear about it for years cause you have 2 winning seasons in the history of your school and its all we hear about now!!! If you do get lucky against Bingham nothing will change cause you think your the best program in the state now. even though your the only ones that think that. Best of luck you'll need it!!!
Dear Bingham Miners.. | 8:55 p.m. Oct. 11, 2008
I guess ya'll have nothing better to do than talk about the playoffs in that great region 3 race that is going on down there... You guys sure talk a lot about the semi's with the semi's being so far away..
I will be cheering for you guys to lose before you reach the semi's because of how arrogant ya'll are.. I keep hearing you guys talk about how the "REAL" championship was played in the semi's last yr.. I guess they should give out a state trophy out for moral victories! So here's what you guys are crying for.. 2nd place 2007 runner ups in the SEMI'S goes to... The Bingham Miners! Great Job Miners, I've never seen a team pat themselves on backs so much on LOSING in the the SEMI'S!!!! So if ya'll don't make it to the semi's this year, I can imagine we'll be hearing you guys saying... The "REAL" championship was played in the quarterfinals! Keep over-looking peps Bingham!

Light Blue, look on the UHSAA web site. The brackets are there under the "football" link.
a reversal | 9:45 p.m. Oct. 11, 2008
This year will be a reversal of last year. Alta has the easy bracket like Layton did last year. This year everyone knows the real State Championship game will be played one week early between Layton and Bingham.
region 1 | 9:59 p.m. Oct. 11, 2008
Both slc regions are week Alta go play Hillcrest and Brighton oh maybe Jordan oh sorry Layton kicked their but 35 to 14 Davis beat Hunter 27 -0. Heres the deal they play defense up north. Sorry we dont play Talorsville. opps it's not baseball. We will see which region is the best come halloween, Go Lancers!!
Curious??? | 9:59 p.m. Oct. 11, 2008
PG is quietly going under the radar with a solid team. Does anyone know what bracket they will be placed in if they win they're region?
Just Curious | 10:06 p.m. Oct. 11, 2008
I was un aware that Layton's Matt Putman was picked up by BYU. He is tearing it up. A great game today.
region 1 | 10:27 p.m. Oct. 11, 2008
PG will play Alta in the semi's if it plays out and Bingham will play Layton if it plays out.
region 1 at 9:59 PM | 10:56 p.m. Oct. 11, 2008
We'll happily play Hillcrest and Brighton. Just like we did last year, you know just before we beat you? Speaking of defense, you did hold us to a low score but really, do you want to get into who's defense did what to who? Didn't think so.
wrong Matt Putnam | 11:21 p.m. Oct. 11, 2008
Wrong Matt Putnam. Putnam on BYU is from Box Elder.

for sure this year there is more strength overall in Region 1. I expect 5 strong teams to go into the playoffs and at least 2, maybe 3 into the 2nd round.
BYU Putnam | 12:10 a.m. Oct. 12, 2008
The T.V. on several occasions said Matt Putnam is a freshman. I don't recall another Matt Putnam last year at Box Elder.
SLC points | 1:10 a.m. Oct. 12, 2008
If you have to repeat a statement it wasn't worth saying in the first place
re: Light Blue | 1:20 a.m. Oct. 12, 2008
wow!! and well said, you clearly know your stuff keep the posts comming I look forward to reading them, you should be a writer for a paper with you whitty retorts and flowing statments, Layton is a strong #2
RE: Dear Bingham Miners | 9:24 a.m. Oct. 12, 2008
No one is patting anyone on the back for losing to alta in the semis. I dont know where you got that. at Bingham it is State Championship or bust. Layton is the one patting their team on the back for just making it to the dance. If we take 2nd the season is a desappointment. That is how it has been the last 5 years, so I dont know what your talking about.
True Blue Layton fan | 11:39 a.m. Oct. 12, 2008
Trust me, the BYU Matt Putnam is not the same Layton Matt Putnam. Layton's Matt is at Snow as a freshman.

Regardless of patting ourselves on the back, whatever people want to call it, Layton is very proud of our football team. For years (I believe 10 in a row) Northridge claimed the city title, but we've now won 2 straight as we own Layton now. We've always respected other teams, Northridge, playoff teams the last 2 years. When Layton went to the playoffs 2 years ago for the 1st time in a loooooong time, it was with a bunch of juniors. Then the seniors took the team to the big dance. This year, many didn't think Layton would be where they are. We are overachievers & proud of it.
re: Defense | 2:25 p.m. Oct. 12, 2008
Yes Layton has a very good defense but it is not just the front four who make the whole defense good. They have some great Linebackers and some good DB's as well. Observe, the 4 sacks Bryson got and the 1 sack Williams had against Syracus was due to the excellent coverage by the backers and saftey's covering the receivers. Watch out when Jackson gets back and is healthy. It's a team effort and if they continue to play as a team they should go along way into the playoffs.
No One? | 2:27 p.m. Oct. 12, 2008
did you honestly just say no one from bingham is patting themselves on the back for losing to alta in the "real state championship?" thats all i see everytime i get on here to read about high school football...

get over it...

and the BYU Matt Putnam is from Box Elder, he went on a mission and is now playing...he is also about 8 inches taller and 100 lbs bigger than the Layton Matt Putnam...
