I'm just glad this one was on KJZZ and BYU-TV, hopefully no sportswriters watched.

What a game. BYU was rusty from the bye and USU kept on coming. If Borel (spelling) could have held onto the ball in the first half....

BYU was lucky they got what they did in the first half.
Ugly | 9:32 p.m. Oct. 3, 2008
Very ugly win BYU. Inconsistent, problems punching it in the end zone. Still got the W. Good luck the rest of the season, you're going to need it at TCU and Utah.
Intense game | 9:33 p.m. Oct. 3, 2008
USU played their hearts out. Great win for BYU! It would have been nicer to have blown them out by a larger margin but a 20 point win in college football is still a good win.
Ernest T. Bass | 9:34 p.m. Oct. 3, 2008
Utah beat USU by 24 more points. So they are obviously the best team in Utah, I think that Utah should be ranked #1 cause they beat the team that beat #1 and they beat other teams that beat teams that beat good teams.
bad performance | 9:34 p.m. Oct. 3, 2008
What was up with all the penalties? That wasnt a good way to come out of a bye week. But at least the got the win! Now here comes all the idiots that will bash a win. Good job mountain west conference

Where were the BYU coaches?????????

I can't believe that they would allow the team to play that sloppy.

The Team should have to jog home for the how terribly they played. Lots of work to do before next week.

How far do you think they will drop in the polls?
Anonymous | 9:36 p.m. Oct. 3, 2008
They were scoreless until less than half the fourth quarter to go and they were down 34 up to that point, and people are acting like it was a close game.
Aggie Pete | 9:36 p.m. Oct. 3, 2008
Keep coach Guy.

Our team turned the corner last week. BYU, #7, did not hear us coming.

Last week we smoked Idaho. We are a new team. I ran into fans who haven't been to a game for years and we had a good time. Exciting game. No one rushed the field, but it was a show in Logan.

USU is back!!!

Coach Guy for President.
Ernest T. Bass | 9:37 p.m. Oct. 3, 2008
Washington is a LOT better than Oregon State.
re/ Bill | 9:37 p.m. Oct. 3, 2008
Utah St also had a bye, any other excuses?
CougarFan312 | 9:38 p.m. Oct. 3, 2008
Prepare for the trash talking barage.

Not a very pretty game.

BYU got so far ahead so early that they lost their emotional edge. Paying too much attention to BCS.
Kudos to Utah State for not quitting like they did against Utah.

4 times in the red zone. 3 points. Special teams in the tank.

Offensive game plan seemed poorly designed.

Thank goodness Mike Reed is coming back.

Everybody plug your ears, the Ute shriekers are on their way in.

Well good showing from the Aggies. I'd have hoped for an upset of course, but never expected it. Glad to see they gave them a game though. I'll go out on a limb here and say that things are looking up at Utah State. I hope they play with this much determination the rest of the season. It would be great to have three stellar football programs in the state. The U and BYU are both making a case for the MWC, let's see Utah State represent in the WAC too!
Oh man... | 9:40 p.m. Oct. 3, 2008
Can anyone tell me what the score was on the Utah vs Utah State game? I don't want any footnotes or asterisk comments, just the score. Can anyone help?
great half | 9:40 p.m. Oct. 3, 2008
what was up with all the penalties? Its pretty funny when a quarterback get a penalty like that. but they better get things worked out before next week.
Who cares? | 9:40 p.m. Oct. 3, 2008
USU was out of the game after the 1st quarter. It was apparent BYU wasn't into the game and was using it as 'practice'. I'm embarrassed to be a USU Alum. The sloppy play of the Aggies is a direct reflection of the their coach. Guy has to go now!
St. George Aggie | 9:40 p.m. Oct. 3, 2008
Even though the Ags lost, I count that as a moral victory. The Ags impressed me. The D wasn't that bad and offensively Borel couldn't hold on to the ball. I think Guy should have stuck with Spetzer.

Wow, thanks USU for showing everyone else the blue print to beat the Cougs. Show up with a half decent team run, pass, because their defense is not that good, and I thought it was only the secondary, play a little defense by making them drive down the field, they just can't score unless it's a short field. Don't turn the ball over 5 times. BYU starters on the field the whole game, way to play your hearts out USU.

Can you say OVERRATED
Blue son of two Utes | 9:41 p.m. Oct. 3, 2008
USU played a very respectable game. I hope they are able to improve thier program and keep playing good ball. It was a great game to watch.
PG | 9:42 p.m. Oct. 3, 2008
I agree with intense game. Watch out for all the critics though! It'll be pathetic
Bad Game | 9:43 p.m. Oct. 3, 2008
The Cougars looked rusty on everything...offense, defense, special teams. Play like that next week against New Mexico and your undefeated streak is over. What in the world was up with all the penalties? Many of them were personal fouls....a team with their ranking should not be racking up penalties like they did tonight. I am glad they pulled out a win...but it wasn't respectable. I bet they slip in the polls.
NevadaCoug | 9:44 p.m. Oct. 3, 2008
What was up with all the penalties? I would say at least two of the personal fouls were bogus. One was on a late hit, when the BYU defender hit the quarterback right after he released the ball. He still hadn't finish his follow through on the release. Bad, bad, bad calls in this game, especially the last minute+. It should have been over much earlier, but the officials inexplicably gave the ball back after yet another Borel fumble.
Anonymous | 9:45 p.m. Oct. 3, 2008
BYU is an excellent football team. They missed 4 opportunities in the red zone tonight. This is an opportunity for them to look at the film and learn how to improve.
Uncle Bud | 9:45 p.m. Oct. 3, 2008
BYU won on the score board but in reality got their butts kicked. Most of the points you got were given to you. WAYYYYY OVER RATED!!! I Loved seeing Hall sacked. TCU will kill you guys and probally Utah too....Playing for the champion GET REAL!!!
Aggie Fan in SLC | 9:45 p.m. Oct. 3, 2008
Watch out for the Aggies in the WAC. If they can play with as much heart and intensity over the next 2 months as they did tonight, they have a great opportunity to make a statement in the WAC. Let's try something different and keep a good coach a few years to give him a chance to develop a program eh?
BYU ALUM | 9:46 p.m. Oct. 3, 2008
That was a disgraceful performance. If the players reflect their head coach then why be so classless. Numerous roughing the passer penalties, as well as a personal foul on Max Hall. Bronco should be ashamed of this team.
BYU FAN | 9:47 p.m. Oct. 3, 2008
BYU looked slopy the second half. Utah state played there little hearts out. 34-14 end of story.
Sierra Blue | 9:49 p.m. Oct. 3, 2008
The Cougars simply looked terrible most of the game. Give Utah State credit, they played hard, but they were clearly not in the same talent level as BYU. Take away USU's miscues and the game would have been scary close.

Just goes to show you that it takes more than talent to win football games. The guts, effort and determination of USU nearly sunk the Cougar ship.

I'm guessing next weeks practices in Provo will be intense. I can't imagine Bronco believing that accountability and execution made an appearance tonight.

An ugly win is still a win, but if they play like that against any opponent remaining on their schedule, they will loose! Plain and simple.

They were not the 7th best team in the nation tonight. They might not even have been in the top 50!
Penalties | 9:49 p.m. Oct. 3, 2008
Im interested in knowing what the Hall did to get the penalty
Anyone know what | 9:49 p.m. Oct. 3, 2008
happened to Nixon? We sure don't want to lose him.
Aggie Fan | 9:49 p.m. Oct. 3, 2008
I find it interesting what a dirty team BYU is. When they couldn't stop us, they personally tried to take our quarterback out of the game by injuring him. These are the tactics they use, win at all cost. No class whatsoever.
Keep Coach Guy | 9:50 p.m. Oct. 3, 2008
I'm with Aggie Pete. Coach Guy has the respect of his players and has them playing with heart.
Re: Aggie Pete | 9:50 p.m. Oct. 3, 2008
BYU played terrible and were still up 34 halfway through the fourth. If they cared at all about the game it would have been much worse. The main goal for the Cougars was to get no one injured and get through the game to prepare for next week. Mission accomplished. Actually, they heard you coming, just didn't care much.
Ernest T. Bass | 9:51 p.m. Oct. 3, 2008
ha ha ha ha you are so predictible!!!
re: re/ Bill | 9:51 p.m. Oct. 3, 2008
it wasn't an excuse. Yes, both teams had byes. BYU looked rusty is all that was said.
Top Ten? | 9:51 p.m. Oct. 3, 2008
5 - 0 against a combined 6 - 16.

Utes and cougars have a common opponent: USU in Logan....

byu played their 1's the entire game while the Utes played much of the 2nd half with their 2's.

Stats:

1st downs: byu 19 USU 23
Tot. Yards: byu 406 USU 321
Score: byu 34 USU 14

1st downs: Utah 29 USU 8
Tot. Yards: Utah 446 USU 116
Score: Utah 58 USU 10

I think the chips were knocked off the shoulders of our yappy TDS fans tonight.

TCU and Utah are licking their chops!!

Go UTES!!
bigutefan | 9:52 p.m. Oct. 3, 2008
HA HA HA! Wow, way to hang in there Cougars playing the #115th ranked team in the nation. You sure showed everyone how deserving you are of your lofty ranking. You will not win at TCU or UTAH because you are a terrible road team. Struggling against a horrible Washington team, and getting beat in the second half by the hapless Aggies, I LOVE IT! BYE BYE COUGARS, the clock is ticking, the quest for perfection is almost over.
GA Cougarfan | 9:52 p.m. Oct. 3, 2008
Aggie fans crack me up!!! I've never seen a bunch of fans screaming like they are going to win a "WAC" championship game in the last 9 minutes of a ball game losing 34-0. Wow, it must be pretty dang boring in Logan UT! Go Aggies! Your football program is looking up. Real football is played in the South my Utah brothers and until you've experienced it, you haven't seen real football. Go DAWGS!!!

Ernest T. Bass,

Washington is 0-4, how are they better than Oregon State?

Anyway, I had a great time watching the Aggies tonight! Kitty fans and Ute fans can talk until they're all red and blue in the face, but Aggie fans are THE BEST! Great playing against the #8 team in the country.
Anonymous | 9:53 p.m. Oct. 3, 2008
Utah state plays more ranked teams then about byu and utah combined. They are a great team. Byu will make a strong come back. Byu is a great team. Go Cougars
XBOX | 9:53 p.m. Oct. 3, 2008
I played this game out on NCAA 08 and got the same score.

Weird.

It's just a game.

Be a little kinder every day than you were the day before, everyone. Is that so much to ask?
who? | 9:54 p.m. Oct. 3, 2008
Who is this Ernest T Bass guy? He says a lot of funny stuff in every story! i love him
Re: NevadaCoug | 9:54 p.m. Oct. 3, 2008
You forgot to mention all the calls that BYU got.
Onside kick! That was the worst call ever!!!!
RE:Anonymous | 9:54 p.m. Oct. 3, 2008
How bout you explain how USU showed everyone the blueprint to BEAT BYU when they LOST by 20 points??

I think the score was 37-21.....Oh wait! Nevermind. That was the score of the Weber St game, my bad.
Not Real Happy | 9:56 p.m. Oct. 3, 2008
Man that was a frustrating game to watch in the second half. To me, no one on BYU's team played a good game. Hall was not accurate and made poor decisions. The offensive line did not open up running lanes. Receivers dropped multiple passes. The defense got gouged run and pass at times. Blocked and missed field goals. Ugh.

I hope Utah State plays well and wins some more ball games the rest of the season (then maybe I won't feel quite so bad about this ugly win). I know Bronco said maybe they sacrificed sharpness for health in the bye week, but...

Well in the end it was a win and it counts as much as any other win. Heres hoping this forces sharper focus for next week.

Good job Aggies.
