Looks like Whittingham up to his old tricks again.
Emmentaler | 8:57 a.m. Sept. 7, 2008
I guess Whittingham needed to hold UNLV accountable. Whittingham is the enforcer, I suppose.

I was eating popcorn and laughing the whole second half. Thanks for the memories Sanford. Enjoy unemployment.

WHERE ARE ALL TH BYU-HATERS? Seems like all those who love to hate BYU should be here singing the praises of the Utes....this was a sweet victory....?
Ute fans....arise and support Utah rather than just be haters.....a good game Utah!!!!

It seems as though the Utes always have plenty of talent but have to manufacture motivation in order to get up for the teams like UNLV.
UNLV is struggling ... | 11:12 a.m. Sept. 7, 2008
I hate to say it, because I'm a UNLV alum. But it's true. Don't make too much of this win, Utes. BYU's win over the Huskies is a much, much bigger game.

GO UTES - Two comments that just show how childish "some" and I say "some" byu fans are.

The MWC has cornered the market on bowling ball type rushers who run downhill and give you boo boos when you try to tackle them. Harvey Unga, Matt Asiata and Frank Summers are all very fun to watch. As far as last nights game went, I think it was a case of wanting to come out and play buisnesslike, rather than passionate football. When that didn't work, and the coaches lit a fire under their butts, the Utes destroyed them. Here's a suggestion...don't play businesslike and under control football for the rest of the season. You are a veteran team that can afford to fly around like your heads are on fire.

I think the Ute's win over Michigan is much bigger than BYU's Washington win.

Even though I'm a cougarfan, it's good to see Utah taking care of business. Having both BYU and Utah in the top 25 is good for both programs, the conference and the state of Utah. I hope they both continue to roll and beat both Oregon State and UCLA.

I go to nearly every game - and I think this Utah win was a much bigger thing than the BYU win. Washington is in its second straight losing season. They'll have a new coach within a few weeks.
Utah DOMINATED, and I'm proud of them for it.
When BYU humilates them at home in Novemeber, their success will help the Y bust the BCS.

I agree with Bob2. The Utes play better when their heads are on fire. They are an emotional team. Take last week's second half vs Michigan and this week's first half vs UNLV, they played serious and cool headed. We don't need that. I say let them fly around. No suits and ties...leave that for BYU.

Sanford will be looking for employment soon.

Utah win was just getting the skeletons out if the closet last night, but they did it convincingly over what will likely be a losing team.
BYU win a helpful win against what will also likely be a losing team, but it was with the help of the ofiicial's ridiculous call. Cougs were not in charge.
Momentum winner this week - the Utes!
But here's to an undefeated season for both teams right up to Nov 22!

in Peoria. You guys are right on with your comments. The suit and tie thing cracks me up! One thing though- you forgot the pocket protectors. (And I'm not giving any love to BYU's O line with that remark either).

Did anyone see Whittingham and Sanford at the post game handshake? It was one of the fastest I have ever seen! Any one else see it? Any thoughts?
JT | 8:45 p.m. Sept. 7, 2008
OK, I am a BYU fan, so take this for what you think it's worth, but I think Whittingham is childish. I thought so after Utah beat Wyoming last year, and I thought so after seeing the handshake yesterday. Did Whittingham even look at Sanford?
That said, I don't think he's a bad coach. In fact, I think he is quite a good coach, with the caveat that he seems to think he must light a fire under his team to win. He alluded to that in the on-field interview immediately after the game; he was asked what he had said to his team at halftime, and he didn't answer the question directly but talked about his view that football is a passionate game. Some coaches at schools that can recruit top athletes can win consistently with that approach, but I think it is the reason his teams have been inconsistent. I also think it is the slight difference between BYU and Utah: Both are very good teams, but I believe Mendenhall's focus on execution works better for consistent results. It certainly is the better approach at BYU, and I am glad Bronco is BYU's coach.

I think Sanford is a much better OC (just not a good HC) than Ludwig is, I say fire Ludwig and pick up Sanford!!

I go to EVERY UTES GAME! True, the first half was kind of slow, but like the game against Michigan, it only took one half to totally dominate both teams! I am ecstatic about the Utes this year. They have got ranked and I also hope that BYU goes undefeated. It will make the Utes look even better when November 22nd rolls around and the Utes show everybody what they are made of! GO UTES!!!

Congratulations to Utah!
However, dont take this win as too great of an accomplishment. Ok, you didnt stumble but not much more than that. If you say this is just the first step of payback season with Wyoming and BYU next on the list, dont be surprised if Wyoming ends up being a game with either a win or a devastating injury to you team that will cost you your promising season.
Payback is a bit__. It can ect it.

"it only took one half to totally dominate both teams!"
You consider our two-point, hang of for dear life win at Michigan total domination???
Tougher teams are on the horizon and if the Utes don't start playing a full game, instead of only one half, they're in for a rude awakening.
One half won't get it done against Air Force, Wyoming, and especially TCU and BYU.

need motivation | 12:02 p.m. Sept. 8, 2008
Why does Freddie Brown or any other Ute need extra incentive to beat UNLV? Utah, and almost any other college team, should be able to beat a team like UNLV without any extra motivation. To me, it shows immaturity that you would need manufactured reasons to beat a team. Just beat them because you want to win and you are a better team. Don't try to make up reasons. Wow.
RMR | 12:21 p.m. Sept. 8, 2008
Hate to say it, but seeing how awfully Michigan did against Miami (OH), everyone in Big 10 land is saying just how pathetic Michigan is this year. I live in Big 10 country, and no one is excited about any team in the conference this year. It's definitely one of the worst college conferences. People at work are talking about how Utah had to pull out trick plays to beat UNLV. No one is considering that Michigan win anything impressive. Tell yourselves all you want that win was good (vs. Michigan), but no one else thinks so. FYI. Hate to sound negative, but just stating what people are saying who don't have goggles on.
Henry Drummond | 2:01 p.m. Sept. 8, 2008
So how much longer does Sanford stay at UNLV? He talks big, but has never had a winning season or close to it.
Re:RMR | 2:20 p.m. Sept. 8, 2008
Good Michigan teams or not, How many teams go to the big house and come away with a W???? Oh yeh it was good enough to get us in the top 25.
Big House | 3:33 p.m. Sept. 8, 2008
How many teams go in the the big house and come away with a W? 4 in the past 13 months.
Overrated | 5:19 p.m. Sept. 8, 2008
Once again we must be reminded that the win over Michigan was nothing special. Just because Michigan is HISTORICALLY a good team doesn't mean that they're good this year. Notice how the root word of "historically" is "history?" That's just what it is: history. That's exactly what Michigan is...HISTORICALLY good, but not this year. Nice win...I guess. But please, Ute fans, quit acting like it was something special. It really wasn't.
BYUTE | 8:42 p.m. Sept. 8, 2008
I attended both universities and am a fan of both in sports. I admit I route for BYU against Utah. Wins by both programs are a good thing for everyone and make the last game of the year that much better.
That being said, W's over anyone in a hostile environment is never easy so kudos to both teams.
However, BYU and Utah need to take it with a grain of salt as Michigan and Washington are not the caliber teams of old. Both teams need to play MUCH better in the future if they plan to even with the conference. BYU needs to protect the ball and play defense while Utah needs to play a complete game. It was nearly embarrasing that the Michigan game ended up as close as it did and the first half at UNLV was nearly as bad with 3 and 6 and outs all of the first quarter.
Here is to BYU and Utah going undefeated and playing for a place in a BCS game.

Utes and BYU are both decent teams, roughly equal, and if they played 10 times, the Utes win 6.
To RMR,
You claim to live in Big 10 country and that at work every one talked about the trick plays in a UNLV vs Utah game. Do you realize how obvious your lies are.
