Come on, more money for the coach's salarly would have prevented this loss, right?

I was playing golf a week ago in a tournament sponsored by an engineering group at a Salt Lake course when the conversation turned to college football with the focus primarily on Utah and BYU. A couple of guys in my foursome knew that I was both an allumni of USU and an avid Aggie football fan. I found myself in a debate regarding whether or not USU could beat a good "high school" football team. Needless to say I was both angry and embarrassed. Thinking about it, however, this might be a valid debate. Although there is very limited coverage of USU football in any of the major Northern Utah Newspapers (probably for good reason), I was especially taken back by the Sunday (9/7/08) recount of the Oregon game in the Ogden Standard Examiner. Several Oregon players were quoted as saying that playing USU was like playing back in "high school." After setting an Oregon record at 688 yards of total offense by mostly second and third string players, I am not sure that my golfing buddies have a valid point. This might be a "new-all-time low" in USU football. I hope change is on the way.

Depends on how you use the money for a coach's salary. Many think Brent Guy is not the right coach for USU. If USU had been able to offer more money than they did, perhaps they would have hired a different coach in the first place. If you mean giving Brent Guy more money in salary, then no, it wouldn't help.

I think it`s time to say good bye to Brent Guy. He`s had all the chance in the world to turn this program around, it`s not going to happen.

Can anyone reading this a article say, with a straight face, that Brent Guy is going to turn this train wreck around?! I was going to take my son to a few Aggie home games this season, I've changed my mind. Hopefully the collective lack of spending on Aggie football will convince the Aggie athletic department that we are absolutely sick about the pathetic nature of our program and dramatic change needs to take place. USU should be able to compete at the D-I level. Basketball season can't come soon enough.

I like the Aggies. They need to drop down a classification and play teams like Weber and Montana.
In this era of big money, I fear the "glory days" for USU football are long-gone. It's too bad.
Had they been allowed in the old WAC 45 or so years ago, things would be different today. As it stands, they'd be better off in the Big Sky.

If Guy and Dickey are not fired before the end of this season I am afraid that USU may get blown out by every team they face.
The defense has several talented individuals but do not have a chance with Guy calling the shots.
The offense can not score enough points to win a game in the WAC with the play calling(run options and 5 yard passes in the flats)by Dickey.
I feel soooo sorry for the players that are working so hard for a win.

To the Athletic Director of Utah State!

Years ago Oregon State was in the same PATHETIC state of affairs as the current Aggie Football program until they finally hired Dennis Erickson to be their head coach. Oregon State didn't have the money to pay this calibur of a coach BUT THEY MADE IT HAPPEN anyway and guess what? Oregon State ended the season ranked #2 in the entire nation during Coach Erickson's second season in the program.

Oh, and now Oregon State has all kinds of money coming in! You WIN and the MONEY FOLLOWS!

Aggie Athletic Director:

MAKE IT HAPPEN!!! SPEND THE MONEY AND HIRE A BIG TIME COACH!!!!! You do this and the money will come!!!! And the respect will finally come to your program and your fans and your fans outside of Utah.

STOP EMBARRASSING YOUR FANS! ENOUGH IS ENOUGH!!

casual, you obviously have no clue about College FB, dropping down a "division" would actually lose the University more money and scholarships, why do you think so many schools try to gain acceptance into IA Football? IAA is a money loser. USU may be a basketball school, but they need their FB team to remain competitive in the West. Only private schools with big money can compete in BB w/o D1FB.
Re: casual fan | 6:08 p.m. Sept. 7, 2008
You obviously dont know anything about college sports. Dropping USU down a classification wouldnt help at all. That is called running away from a challenge. And in the long run it wouldnt help the basketball team improve and stay ahead of Utah and BYU.
What the Aggies need is some help in scheduling. One money game is fine. I guess we need it. But schedule an SUU, or WSU, Idaho State. Play some smaller teams and put some numbers in the win column before you get to Idaho or New Mexico State.
On the coaching issue: Get someone that actually gets into players faces, gets mad on the radio. All I hear BG say is, oh we did some things right, we didnt catch a break though. Just say it once, we stunk it up, we gave the game away. Be accountable for what you do.
Go Aggies!! Go beat Utah!! ;)

Ditto what the other guy from Oregon said. Hey OR Aggie guy, did you go to the game in Eugene? I was there...tough to watch. Not only does USU not have the money, I don't think they have the will to want to win. Football season seems to be the time before bb season. I really believe the new ESPN contract is going to pay dividends for the entire conference...TV is a big deal with kids looking for a school.

Drop football, drop football and drop football.

There will be a sea of red at the game. I expect half of the 28,000 fans will be wearing red for the Utah Ute scrimmage.
Remember Duke University | 12:41 a.m. Sept. 8, 2008
Duke hasn't had a winning football team since 1994. They are not going to move down or quit!

USU needs to follow the path of lowly programs and rebuild. If all the coaches go, then they go.

Utah and BYU will show no mercy so it will be another long year. One win per year isn't acceptable in Cache, or any other valley.
RE: Utah 49 Utah State 17 | 7:47 a.m. Sept. 8, 2008
Last night I had a great dream in which the Aggies won on a last minute turnover. It was a great dream!

But in the end it was only a dream. Although I hate to admit it, I think your on the right track.

Go Aggies!
Aggie in Alabama | 9:35 a.m. Sept. 8, 2008
Utah State is still coming back from the wilderness of lousy conferences and independence. It will take lots of money and a good coach to get it done, a coach that is proven, this is not a place for on the job training. It pains to see the Aggies trounced by nearly everyone they play year after year. The roar of the crowd in Aggie Victory still rings in my mind from the Old Romney Stadium at the height of the Skyline Conference. Times have changed, the Aggies have not kept up. A healthy football program is a huge revenue generator and supports the rest of the athletic programs. Alabama football generated over $50 Million last year, winning develops the fan base, elevates the program, If Utah State generated half that amount they would be financed well enough to be dominating on the field. Utah State needs to be a destination for successful coaches not a path to a good job in the SEC.
ZZ | 12:32 p.m. Sept. 8, 2008
USU is no Duke. Not even close. Not close at all. It if wasn't for BYU and Utah, USU would be so close to being on the verge to go the next lower division because fans of these schools fill seats so USU doesn't qualify to go down one division.

To all the USU fans who insist on having a one-sided rivalry with BYU, it makes my smile to see you get wasted to a team that BYU wasted. I hate schools who hate on another school just because no one wants to be their rival, so they choose to hate another school.

USU is going nowhere. Where are all the people who said this is USU's year, and now are hating their own coach? That's what happens when you put on those goggles--you get blind to reality.

I attended the meeting last Wednesday evening and got to ask Scott Barnes about USU scheduling Weber. Apparently McBride refuses to let Weber play USU.

Obviously ZZ hasn't read any posts this year. I'll bet only 10% thought that USU would be any better. Fire Guy and hire anyone.
