I don't like many in congress but unfortunatly I can't vote them out unless I live in their state or district. there are some on both sides that have very secure jobs and no worries of ever being voted out. Maybe they should consider term limit. Pelosi should be the first to go.
3% vs. 25% | 8:08 a.m. Sept. 7, 2008
As a nation we use 25% of the world's oil and gas, and have 3% of the world's reserves. Plus, oil and gas companies are international, not American govt.
Duh.

How does drill drill drill solve that problem?

Worse yet, our refinery capacity is at 100%.

Worse still, we have lands that are open to exploration that have not been drilled drilled drilled.

Why do I get the solid feeling that the Pres. and the gop are playing us for suckers???????????

Thanks gop, but I will vote demo this year. I am sick of the lieing.

You're dead right! we should vote them out at all costs. We need to drill our own oil. the democrates have stopped the drilling too long now. Yet, China continues to side drill our oil under Florida and congress lets them do it.

Judges also have a free ride once they get to the bench. They can consrew law they way they want. They are not regulated and they are there for life. I agree that they should also be term limited. I ALWAYS VOTE NO ON ALL JUDGES for this very reason. I'm hoping that others do the same. We CAN send a message to congress and our judicial system that we are tired of they way they judge if the states start having judges voted out and new ones put in. They shouldn't be on the bench for the rest of their life. It's just wrong.

Could it be? | 9:38 a.m. Sept. 7, 2008
Could it be that Bush, his family, and his friends, are and have been in the oil business, and that this is a thinly veiled attempt at yet another money-grab before he leaves office? Why is the American public so stupid?

First of all congress will continue to do nothing because they have proven themselves to be good for nothing. To Gee I would say that if your senators and congressman are not part of the solution they are part of the problem, vote them out. Don't just sit and place the blame on some other like Pelosi, they are all the same. They are all either crooked or lazy and they all must be voted out. Since congress will never pass term limits for themselves then we must limit their time. No votes for incumbents! It doesn't matter if you agree with them ideologically speaking, they must go!

Drill, Drill, Drill? I thought it was Bomb, Bomb, Bomb.
If , if | 11:39 a.m. Sept. 7, 2008
If Gov. Palin is so good, so smart, so thorough, so prepared to lead...

then let's get her on the tv and radio talk shows 100% of the time so that she can tell the world how smart she is and prove it.

Rush her to the talk shows. Let her show the public how brilliant and experience she is. Not the Fox parrot news, but the real news shows. hat way she and Senator McCain will win the election, on the issues.

She will prove the wisdom of his pick, and make us all forget Obama and Biden.

opps, did I say something wrong?

I don't think it's so much that the American public are stupid, I believe it's because the American public have little power over it. It's easier to react then to act. I'm with you, you go start a revolt and I'll support you from my computer simply because I have a job and I'm too busy to fight the issue. Besides, there are so many other issues that need to be fought.

We can only send messages such as voting NO on all judges. That's a good start.
the word | 11:45 a.m. Sept. 7, 2008
George Bush never has asked the American public to conserve. Conseration to save oil and gas and thus bring the price down can be done... immediately.

Mr. President, you are either stupid, incompetent, or corrupt. which one is it?
lacking logic | 1:56 p.m. Sept. 7, 2008
"First of all congress will continue to do nothing because they have proven themselves to be good for nothing."

We have a slim majority in congress. It takes sixty votes to stop debate and two thirds to over ride a veto.

Out of the last 12 years, democrats have controlled congress 21 months. Do the facts prove it's a democrat problem?

Gas prices are dropping with no drilling. This proves the value of the dollars drives what you pay.

Maybe if we knew what was talked about in those secret White House energy meetings. These high fuel costs may not be seen as a problem to those in power.
Some Comments | 4:15 p.m. Sept. 7, 2008
Wow, you can tell from some of the comments that they are just repeating what has been in the media, without even looking for the sources of data/facts/lies/etc.

I.E.: "3% vs. 25%", "Wait", "If, if" & "the word"

Also the dumbest statement: "...experts also note that lifting the congressional ban on offshore drilling wouldn't produce more oil for five to seven years."
Well, so what, going to college/universities won't produce graduates for four to eight years ... these would only make sense to the "Instant Gratification Generation"!
OPEC | 6:12 p.m. Sept. 7, 2008
For those of you out there that think this is just about "Evil Bush & His Big-Oil Cronies", here is a reason why we need to develope our own oil & refining capacities ...

From the opening of an AP news:
VIENNA, Austria - With oil prices off nearly 30 percent from their highs of almost $150 a barrel, OPEC oil ministers are considering what was unthinkable just a few weeks ago — cutting back output to prop up the price of crude.

Guess where they want to keep Americas monies going?
Anonymous | 6:52 p.m. Sept. 7, 2008
Hey here is a thought. a Barrel of oil is now at 106. It was as high as 150 or so. Why has a barrel of oil fallen 1/3 but the price has come down only about 50 cents if that. Lets see what oil was at when it was on the rise at 106. There is the price we should be paying. NO WAY. big oil now knows they can gouge us and we will never see it come down.
here we go again | 9:01 p.m. Sept. 7, 2008
We just can't stand it if we are not beholden to other countries for our oil supply.
What, pray tell, is so wrong with becomming a little less dependent on foreign energy?
Kman | 9:41 p.m. Sept. 7, 2008
The nation as a whole needs to become energy independent. The short term solution is the country needs to produce more of it own oil. If the country continues to do nothing then the OPEC nations will continue to control the American economy. Russia is trying to control the oil through georgia. Oil dependence is a problem has been a problem since the 70's. The 41st president of the united states warned the country about $100 barrel oil and people thought it could not happen. Now you have people warning about $200 barrel oil and people are feeling the crunch.

As for the post stating that the president should have asked the American public to conserve do you really think that would have made a difference? Price is what the driving force to making people conserve and it has made a difference, it has awakened the American public.
