Washington was cheated. End of discussion
Wah, wah, wah | 4:34 p.m. Sept. 6, 2008
Extra point blocked!!! Doesn't matter if it was on the 10 or the 25 yard line. Scoreboard is all that matters.
Realistic Fan | 4:35 p.m. Sept. 6, 2008
BYU had that game given to them. They have NO defense. They didn't stop the run and left receivers open all over the field. Our defensive front line played like a bunch of girl scouts. What a grim performance!

Cougars got lucky | 4:35 p.m. Sept. 6, 2008
The Cougars should have killed the Huskies (who are picked to finish 8-9 in the Pac-10). This is the second week in a row that BYU hasn't looked like a top 25 team.

Hopefully BYU will wake up.

Unga played a great game.
Yes! | 4:35 p.m. Sept. 6, 2008
Courar's rock. 2-0 baby!!
Kwittie | 4:36 p.m. Sept. 6, 2008
Your boy still needs to make the extra point - don't blame your loss on the Refs when you can not make a 35 yard extra point.
Mike D | 4:36 p.m. Sept. 6, 2008
Maybe it was a bad call, but BYU still blocked the kick...and likely would have blocked a close PAT as well... why act like the call automatically meant BYU won???
12 in a row | 4:39 p.m. Sept. 6, 2008
End of discussion.

Offence - A
Defense - D-

If the defense continues like this, it will be a dissappointing season.
Embarrassing | 4:39 p.m. Sept. 6, 2008
BYU almost lost to the worst team in the Pac-10.
Quest for what...
We'll be lucky to win 9 games.
Ugh. | 4:37 p.m. Sept. 6, 2008
I guess magic happened again.
Re:Game | 4:37 p.m. Sept. 6, 2008
BYU was cheated on non-calls. BYU wins. End of discussion.
A block is still a block | 4:38 p.m. Sept. 6, 2008
Whether you agree with a penalty that was called within the rules or not, a blocked extra point is still a blocked extra point.

Magic happens.
DH | 4:39 p.m. Sept. 6, 2008
Washington wasn't cheated, it was just part of the game, but BYU sure has no defense. Or to state it better BYU has a very slow defense. It was obvious as you watched them that a team with talent and speed would run all over them. Sorry fans but BYU is not a top 25 team.
JIinGA | 4:41 p.m. Sept. 6, 2008
Doesn't matter from where the PAT was attempted when it's BLOCKED. Good job Cougars!
To game. | 4:41 p.m. Sept. 6, 2008
Read the rules. PAC 10 officiating crew. End of discussion.
Sore Loser | 4:39 p.m. Sept. 6, 2008
And how was Washington cheated? Seems to me that you are a SORE LOSER.

After two weeks both BYU and Utah have won on the road against a BAD team and after Utah's win tonight, will both have won at home against a "lesser" opponent.

Looks like the stars are in line for a November show down!

Anonymous | 4:39 p.m. Sept. 6, 2008
only one word can describe BYU's performance the last three games....pathetic
we won end of story | 4:40 p.m. Sept. 6, 2008
Celebration has been that way since the beginning of time. If you don't like it whatever but it was a good call.

Secondly it doesn't matter!!! WE BLOCKED THE KICK! GAME OVER!!

Oh and last of all there was a huge hold they got away with on the last drive!!!! Washington can't blame it on the refs. We beat them!
Gus | 4:40 p.m. Sept. 6, 2008
Cougar's defense is terrible! Offense was superb.

What's up with the defense? That was a horrible defensive effort. Bad, bad, bad.
Mighty Cougs | 4:43 p.m. Sept. 6, 2008
Agreed.

BYU fans need to understand that they are not and will not be ready to compete against the top tier programs in the Pac-10, SEC, or Big-12. Fundamental changes need to be made before that could happen in recruiting and coaching.

Here's hoping that the "Quest for Perfection" is officially over next week!
BYU | 4:40 p.m. Sept. 6, 2008
BYU will never contend with a legitimate BCS team. I'm not a ute fan so don't think I'm biased but just face the facts...they aren't a contender
Pac 10 Refs... | 4:43 p.m. Sept. 6, 2008
Given the history of the Pac 10 referee's...You can't really think that they were looking for a chance to take one away? Huskies should have made the PAT to earn OT. They lost it, we blocked it. The quest continues. No whining from Utah fans...you should focus on UNLV.
We did our job | 4:40 p.m. Sept. 6, 2008
Over to you, Utah.
Utah Man | 4:40 p.m. Sept. 6, 2008
There will be many comments and raging debates regarding the unsportsmanlike conduct call. All of this impending discussion is moot. BYU BLOCKED THE KICK!!! doesn't matter whether it was from the 20 or the 35. BYU blocked it! end of discussion.
Bad refs | 4:42 p.m. Sept. 6, 2008
I am sick and tired of BYU winning the close games. You didn't deserve the win and should have lost by 21 points - to the worst team in the PAC 10!

Refs favor BYU again and really hosed Washington.

BYU | 4:43 p.m. Sept. 6, 2008
What would byu fans say if they got a call like this? They would be saying they got cheated so don't even start saying UW wasn't cheated
re Mike D and everyone else | 4:44 p.m. Sept. 6, 2008
35 yards is farther than an extra point, deal with it, its still tougher
AZ DAVE | 4:44 p.m. Sept. 6, 2008
Pac 10 officals are the worst. So BYU beat the bottom of the barrel of the Pac 10 and a High school team Yea big time BCS bound
ripped off | 4:45 p.m. Sept. 6, 2008
A 35 yard kick takes a different angle to kick, You kick it lower to get the distance. without the cheap pentalty the kick does not get blocked.
Ignorant | 4:45 p.m. Sept. 6, 2008
If Washington wouldn't have been 15 yards back they would have kicked the ball higher and probably not blocked. To make it from 35 yards away requires a lower kick.
Washington got cheated!!
Its only a matter of time before BYU loses.
Gretzky | 4:47 p.m. Sept. 6, 2008
i watched the game and the officiating was horrible. so many washington holds i stopped counting. jan jurgensen's jersey was ripped off a couple of time by washington defenders. pac10 officials are the worst. byu should and did deserve to win this game with washington doing all they could to win. score should have been 42-21.
Play like that... | 4:48 p.m. Sept. 6, 2008
and get beat by UCLA next week!
Note to Bronco | 4:48 p.m. Sept. 6, 2008
Find a fix for your defense or season over!
The defense was a total embarrasment!
What percentage? | 4:51 p.m. Sept. 6, 2008
Of 35 yard field goals get blocked? Oh yeah, not that many. This is still almost an automatic play and UW didn't execute. GO Cougs! Keep livin' right... :)
Bob in line | 4:48 p.m. Sept. 6, 2008
Washington was cheated?!

I have spent some time in SEC country and have had more than one football fan note that PAC10 teams will not play without their own officiating crews.

So if Washington was cheated it was by their very own refs. It was a PAC10 crew running the show.

Jake Locker threw the ball backwards over his shoulder. Throwing the ball after a touchdown will get a penalty almost everytime. If you aren't certain just ask the PAC10 officiating crew.

The rough ending aside, BYU did in fact block the kick. Game, set, match.

To Coach Mendenhall, great game.

I'm not an expert but can I recite one cliche I've heard over the years?

Prevent defenses only prevent you from winning.

Maybe next time we can do some contained rushes on Jake Locker. That three man rush, even the 5 man rush without assignments was pretty scary.

Good game and I'm sorry the Washington crowd feels robbed. As they say in the Naval Fighters Weapons School (Top Gun): A wins a win.

We could also see Washington as a great run-up to UCLA. Same PAC10 speed, strength and athelticism. Our guys should be adjusted now.

Go BYU!
re we won end of story | 4:49 p.m. Sept. 6, 2008
guess what, there is holding on just about EVERY single play during a game, I'm sure there were several more that could have been called easily. don't nit pick.
wow | 4:52 p.m. Sept. 6, 2008
So many of you Ute fans are simply a disgrace. Reading some of your negative drivel almost makes me pity you. BYU's last three games were pathetic? Ummm....we are 3-0 in our last three games, two of which were against the PAC-10.
Also, it amazes me that the PAC-10 officials actually made a call (any call) that went against their PAC-10 team at the end of the game.

Lastly, Washington is a good home team and always has been. They have won over 70% of their games at home.

No one wants to acknowledge that BYU got a big win on the road against a BCS league opponent. We hadn't done that in a long while. Regardless how we got the win tonight, what matters is that we won.
Washington to Rose Bowl | 4:50 p.m. Sept. 6, 2008
they will play a one loss Mich team. Both will be ranked in the top 20, well behind BTU and Utah. It's all in the magical big plan
Ryan | 4:50 p.m. Sept. 6, 2008
"Washington got cheated!"
WAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAH!
WAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAH!

Isn't it bed time for all of you babies?
Reality Check | 4:53 p.m. Sept. 6, 2008
Folks, I'm a die-hard BYU fan and alum, but let's get real -- BYU has a great offense and a terrible defense. An accurate passer will tear us up. Brian Johnson is licking his chops. BYU will lose 3 games this year...before any bowl game. Yes, the defense is that bad. Wake up and smell the postum, Cougar fans, and don't act surprised when our Cougs lose games.
BYU still would have won in OT | 4:53 p.m. Sept. 6, 2008
Okay, so say there was no penalty and the was good, BYU still would have won, I know cause I have special powers that allow me to know things like that...........either way BYU wins so shut up
A win is a win is a win is a win is a win is a win is a win is a win is a win...............is a WIN!
Anonymous | 4:51 p.m. Sept. 6, 2008
Defense will figure it out by next week at home for sure. We have the talent and just need to begin to jell together. BYU will beat UCLA.
Horrible Call | 4:52 p.m. Sept. 6, 2008
Let's let the athletes determine the outcome of these classic games. There was not one person in the stands today that came to the stadium to see any one official. Excessive celebration?-Give me a break! We already have the "No Fun League" and we need to stop taking the emotion out of college football. The guy was celebrating with his teamates after a great athletic play. He did not un-strap the chin strap, remove the helmet and start running for the cameras while flashing gang signs or thumping his chest; he threw the ball over his back and jumped into his teamates arms. I don't have a loyalty to either team but it would have been nice to see them go into overtime so the end could have been determined by the 22 on the field.
Anonymous | 4:52 p.m. Sept. 6, 2008
if washington didnt let them score 28 well earned points they wouldnt have been beat. game over go cougs
Poor Way to Win | 4:53 p.m. Sept. 6, 2008
The offense looked good. The defense was marginal. The team was lucky. I don't believe the Washington Quarterback "spiked" the ball. He flipped it backwards in excitement. I am glad they won but feel that it is a poor way to win. They must be living right!
ignorance is as ignorance does | 4:53 p.m. Sept. 6, 2008
Washington was lucky to even be in this game.

When it came down to it THEY did not execute. How many times did Locker miss wide open receiver? How many times did they drop the ball? How many extra points did they miss?

The cougars played lazy and still won. They won't be able to do it against UCLA. But Washington was not cheated.
MaGoo | 4:58 p.m. Sept. 6, 2008
The official that made the "celebration" call, under those circumstances and at that time of the game, should never be allowed to officiate another game for the rest of his life.
Washington Hosed | 4:56 p.m. Sept. 6, 2008
The defense is horrible, miscues at the worst times (fumble when going in for a touchdown). They will lose to the Bruins, who have 2 weeks to prepare.

However the magic continues to happen...its 4th & 18 and Collie is still open!
Next Week... | 5:00 p.m. Sept. 6, 2008
Bronco makes all the right adjustments to stop UCLA's third string QB who doesn't have half the talent of Locker...BYU keeps living right and wins again!
