Sanford was just telling the truth, the Utes were awful last year against the Rebels. I don't know if they were afraid to tackle Summers or just plain bad...However, this year will be different..Utah by 3 touchdowns
just curious? | 12:41 a.m. Sept. 5, 2008
if it is all truely, "water under the bridge" why is there a giant banner in the yewt locker room with these quotes from last year??? a little honesty is all we ask from in college athletics, bronco has delivered yet kwyle just doesn't seem to keep up
rvalens2 | 1:41 a.m. Sept. 5, 2008
No need to apologize Mike, Utah is going to going to stuff your own words down your throat. It may not be a shutout but it will shellacking.

It is time to hold UNLV accountable for their comments last year.... I look forward to seeing 5 trick plays and an onside kick when Utah is up by 40 points!
RE:just curious? | 5:37 a.m. Sept. 5, 2008
You've been in their locker room? I think when asked, Kyle said he doesn't post anything in the locker room.
cobalt | 6:27 a.m. Sept. 5, 2008
the rebels will make it 2 years in a row this week
RE: just curious? | 6:32 a.m. Sept. 5, 2008
Honesty in college football??? Bronco has kept his word and delivered?!!!!. The man who said he would not target missionaries committed to other schools to let them pull a "Ben Olsen" and this year he by sure hapenstace ends up with two???????? what a cooincidence. Looks like a duck to me
Accountable? | 6:38 a.m. Sept. 5, 2008
You have to be accountable for your actions when you are wrong. Sanford's quotes were completely accurate. The question for the Utes is who will be this year's UNLV?

Nobody is as two-faced as The Donc.
Who cares if Utah holds a grudge? It won't matter either way, by this time next year Sanford will be the QB coach at Montana Tech and Frank will still be sore from the beat-down he recieves this weekend.
Honestly... | 7:26 a.m. Sept. 5, 2008
Utah just had its "Women's Clinic" and a 100 ladies w/ cameras had free run of Utah's locker room.

No banners, no strange stuff in urinals, no golden calves, no pentagrams on the floor... Some manager did distribute a simple printed version of Sanford and Summers' quotes last year. Some players had those taped up in their lockers, some did not.

Now if Utah Coaches say that they and their players don't remember what Sanford said then they are telling a little white lie... There is no doubt that a lot of Utah players have had this game circled on the calendar.

Any Utah coach that didn't try to have his players remember that embarrassment and use it as a teaching moment not be doing his job. Of course they have talked about laying an egg after a big win. The Utes did it after UCLA last year and don't want to do it after Michigan this year.
Focus | 7:39 a.m. Sept. 5, 2008
I love how the Utes for the most part say the right thing to the media. Do I think that they will use material like Sanford's comments as motivation. I would be surprised if they didn't.

The fact is that I don't blame Utah for not giving more fodder for the media fire. If Sanford would have just kept his mouth shut this wouldn't be a problem.

Kyle is wise to not spout off to the media and keep team issues within the team. I have tremendous respect for the way Utah handles the media in general.
DIZZY | 7:56 a.m. Sept. 5, 2008
Why would Kyle want or need to say anything to the media to let them know what he has or hasn't said in practice or in meetings? His players and coaches know all about 2007, and trust me they will bring out the big stick Saturday, and I would hate to be UNLV on Saturday night. Have you ever heard the term "Walk softly but carry a big stick". Utah dosen't have to talk, they will show it on the field.
Something the team MY LITTLE PONY coaches had better do Saturday afternoon.
New O-Coordinator | 7:56 a.m. Sept. 5, 2008
Hey Sanford...there is a new offensive coordinator job opening up here at Utah next season. Interested?
Wyoming Last Year | 8:19 a.m. Sept. 5, 2008
Does anyone remember the "payback" game last year against Wyoming? Kyle and staff remember very well. I don't expect any on-side kicks once we're up by 30 points but don't expect Kyle to lay off the gas. I tried to buy 4 tickets yesterday and was told I had to wait until 2 hours before the game and then the student section and UNLV section can be sold. They expect about 800 student tickets available in each section. What's up with the lame student section? It should be filled up every game?
Jimmy's Sneakers | 8:36 a.m. Sept. 5, 2008
Jimmy thinks that the Utes have UNLV's number.

Dial a "U" followed by a "V" -- as in, Utah victory.

Jimmy thinks Sanford's end of the phone line will be: "If you'd like to make a call, please hang up and dial again. If you'd like to make a call, please hang up and dial again.... etc."
so what | 8:50 a.m. Sept. 5, 2008
If you've ever played college ball, and yes I have, you know that trash talking goes on everyday, everywhere. If a player or coach worries about everything he's told has been said he wouldn't get one thing done. They might use Sanford's comments as motivation but they don't need to. I'm a Y fan but know the Utes are going to run the Rebs in this one. Utes 41 - UNLV 10
Same Story Different Day | 8:51 a.m. Sept. 5, 2008
The Utes are weak on the D-Line and UNLV is going to expose it. Frank the Tank is going to sock them in the mouth and the Utes will assume the fetal position like they did last year.

What do you expect from a bunch of boys coached by someone wearing a fanny pack.
Anonymous | 9:03 a.m. Sept. 5, 2008
Who cares what he said? The Utes were awful last year. No remarks will fire them up more than their awful play. The Utes have no one to look to more than themselves. Don't be late to the game. 14 points will go up in a hurry.
Jimmy is that YOU again? | 9:11 a.m. Sept. 5, 2008
I hope your therapist is helping. Anybody that refers to themselves in the third person needs help. Sanford is back-pedaling because he is going to get canned this year and wants to be hired somewhere else.
Utah Mann | 9:52 a.m. Sept. 5, 2008
To the guy that said Kyle can't keep up with Bronco. Memo-Utah won at the BIG HOUSE last week!!! When you guys beat a decent team on the road you can talk all you want!! I still can't get over how arrogant bYu fans are, rediculous. You guys had to give it all you had to beat UNI last week!! If you are talking about conference championships, I take my hat off to Bronco. He has won two straight job well done. I really think that will change this year, and to anybody that watched the Utah game last week (I know you all did, even the Kitty fans), you should be worried about Utah. One last note, Aiona Key has arrived!!! This guy is rediculously good!!!

GO UTES!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Who cares? | 10:01 a.m. Sept. 5, 2008
Until the Utes can figure out how to beat the Cougars, they are going nowhere. I think they will do it this year. GO UTES!
Ernest T. Bass | 10:03 a.m. Sept. 5, 2008
As a Ute fan, I'm confused. UNLV uses the color red and so do we. How are going to be able to tell each other apart? Maybe that's why last year we couldn't tackle Frank Summers. Our guys weren't sure if he was one of ours or one of theirs. This is a very complicated situation. I think the solution is for UNLV to wear their football shirts and for our guys to be "skins". Kyle if you're reading this please take my advice because I sincerely and truly want us to score some points this time. And you can leave your shirt off too. You know, so that you match the team. ;)

An Old Klingon Proverb says that "revenge is a dish best served cold".

It means that to be successful, revenge should be a considered and planned response enacted when the time is right, rather than a hasty and 'hot-blooded' action that will increase the chances of failure.

This year, Kyle will exact his revenge for last season's embarrassment in Las Vegas as a cold, calculated response.

Kyle's hot-blooded response to Wyoming (his infamous onside kick) created the same type of revenge-minded opponent for the Utes when they visit Laramie.
Re: Jimmy's Sneakers | 10:13 a.m. Sept. 5, 2008
Jimmy, it sure is nice to see you again.

No question, Utah is going to hang one on the Rebels on Saturday. UNLV will be leaving SLC with their tails between their legs. Its gonna be a long, quiet bus ride back to Vegas.
TO: "Utah mann" | 10:34 a.m. Sept. 5, 2008
Not all BYU fans are arrogant! I cheer for the Cougs, but also cheered for the Utes to win in Ann Arbor last saturday. Facts are: Utah has NOT finished higher than third place in the Mountain West since Kyle took over. Just so Utes fan know... BYU has also beaten Michigan, though when the Cougars beat them, they were awarded with a #1 ranking and National Title. So don't mind us when we aren't doing back-flips for you like the rest of the Utah Media. Sure, it's a great road win, but that's it... Michigan is no top 25 team, sorry. Oh yeah... it's "rIdiculous".. not "rEdiculous".
GOOOOO MIGHTY COUGARS!!!
My Prediction | 10:47 a.m. Sept. 5, 2008
UNLV 35, Utah 10. There's no way that the Utes are gonna go undefeated this season, and I bet that UNLV will take them down. Just wait and watch.
lol | 11:04 a.m. Sept. 5, 2008
I'm glad the previous poster prefaces their post with how not all BYU fans are arrogant, then proceeds to lay it on thick.

If you're so confident in proclaiming the disposition of your team's following, could you please provide some examples next time, instead of proving what other posters have been claiming?

WOOHOO BYU BEAT MICHIGAN IN 1984!!!! AWESOME! Thanks for comparing Utah's recent "negative" accomplishments in the MWC, and then throwing BYU's "great" achievements over 2 decades ago. Thanks for the laugh.
Kyle's failure | 11:08 a.m. Sept. 5, 2008
has been in conference.

Kyle lost more MWC games last one season (3), than Bronco has lost since he became BYU's head coach (2).

Kyle's MWC finishes have been 4th, 3rd, 3rd.

Bronco's have been 2nd, 1st, 1st.

Both schools have great teams this season that are fully capable of beating EVERY team on their schedule. Hopefully, BOTH teams will play up to their potential and we'll have an undefeated/Top 10 ranked clash to relish in November.

BYU's nemesis is this week and next. Utah's starts with Air Force.
Utah minus 22 | 11:22 a.m. Sept. 5, 2008
I'm a Ute fan living in Henderson, NV, and no one here believes the Rebels have a chance. The books have Utah as 22 point favorites, and I think that is too small. This game may get ugly, when the Utes are up by 35 at half. I just hope Whit doesn't keep the starters in too long.

I was in Ann Arbor last weekend, and this Utah team has a different feel to it. It feels like 2004 all over agian. Watch out Rebels!
Always been | 11:34 a.m. Sept. 5, 2008
I've always been a Rebels fan! My dad used to set my brother and me on his knees and sing us the UNLV fight song!

Go Rebs!

UNLV 24, Utah 19

I love how ute fans are saying such ridiculous things like, "UNLV will be leaving SLC with their tails between their legs. Its gonna be a long, quiet bus ride back to Vegas." How was that bus ride for the utes last year leaving Vegas? Being shutout by UNLV is like being shutout by Duke, Temple, and USU. UNLV is much improved this year. They have always played utah tough. Any fan who thinks this is a cakewalk is completely ignorant and naive to these two teams.
No utah fan has any right to dis on UNLV based on what happened last year. You were owned by one of ESPN's bottom 10 contenders.
Rebel Yell | 11:53 a.m. Sept. 5, 2008
But, it won't make any difference.

Utah will beat UNLV by at least 35 points.

They'll beat the Beavers handily.

Utah's biggest concerns will be

@Air Force
@Wyoming
@New Mexico

TCU will be tough, and then

dadada dadada da

BYU!

1984 Shm1984 | 11:54 a.m. Sept. 5, 2008
I'm willing to bet that this year's Michigan team ends up better than 6-6.
RE;RMR | 12:17 p.m. Sept. 5, 2008
"They have always played Utah tough"? Um...yeah, and what's the overall record between the two of them? Isn't it 11-2 or something like that. But yeah, those games have always been really close...oh wait...
UTAH 44 UNLV 17 | 12:35 p.m. Sept. 5, 2008
Utah destroys a happless UNLV
Scoobie | 12:37 p.m. Sept. 5, 2008
Do Uteys really lack the ability to visualize the stoic sarcasm of Sanfords remarks????? What a croc to even bring this up. Come on Ute Defense, just pull your pants up and get the job done. No more of these 137 yd penalty games.
Ute Red | 12:41 p.m. Sept. 5, 2008
IF Utah beats UNLV, BCS just better hand over the national championship trophy.

We are AWESOME! 3rd place in the MWC last year was a fluke, losing to BYU and UNLV was a fluke, we trashed Michigan with our 28 total offensive yards in the 2nd half.

Bring it on, bring it on!
Master Yoda? | 1:49 p.m. Sept. 5, 2008
"One game does not a season make."

Since when did Yoda take over as head coach at UNLV?
Ted | 2:08 p.m. Sept. 5, 2008
Onside kick, onside kick. This will make them mad!
Anonymous | 2:19 p.m. Sept. 5, 2008
I hope after the Utes beat down UNLV this weekend that coug fans will shut up about last year's loss. Question - What team has lost to UNLV TWICE at HOME within the last 6 years? Anyone??? It's none other than byu (look it up). Who cares what happened last year, the Utes are the real deal and byu fans are going to have to deal with Utah stealing the spotlight. Go Utes!!
Stealing the spotlight? | 2:26 p.m. Sept. 5, 2008
Yeah, you're going to get big props for winning against UNLV. Spotlight? How's #22 compared to #15?

Go tell your mom you're using the internet again without permission.
LV Rebel | 2:49 p.m. Sept. 5, 2008
Go Rebels! Maybe if Utah is ahead by 3 TDs UNLV can expect an on-side kick. 27-0? Who could have folded by such a margin?
Zoobies | 3:07 p.m. Sept. 5, 2008
Last conference road win was at BYU? lol thats almost as pathetic as BYU having their last non conference road win at Utah State.
yes pretty sad | 3:56 p.m. Sept. 5, 2008
Yes it was pretty sad that UNLV beat us during that very bad stretch Crowton had when he helped us to 3 losing seasons in a row. Worst stretch for us in 40 years.

But wait, u guys had a winning record last year. U won 9 games including your bowl game. Yet you got SHUT OUT 27-0 by the WORST TEAM in the conference. UNLV only had 2 wins last season: u guys and Utah State!!

That's pretty sad too. Don't you think? Too bad, so sad for the U of Boo-hoo.
RMR | 4:11 p.m. Sept. 5, 2008
UNLV has played utah close since all the coaching changes a few years ago. That is what I meant. Not even Johnson could save that last game for the team.
2 bits | 4:25 p.m. Sept. 5, 2008
I can't wait for this game. All the jive-talkin asside, I suspect the Utah defense is going to be really UP for this game. There's going to be some real hitting. I can't wait.
Sanford should be careful | 4:27 p.m. Sept. 5, 2008
I think we all remember what happened to Wyoming last year when Joe Glenn opened his big mouth. Last year was a fluke
Yeah spotlight | 6:15 p.m. Sept. 5, 2008
Just because BYU is ranked 7 spots higher than Utah doesn't mean they are getting more pub. Yes going into the season BYU had more pub than Utah, but look around on ESPN and other newspapers and boards around the nation, for this last week, at least, there was a lot more talk about Utah than BYU, most of the talk about BYU I saw was in conjunction with the rivalry game and the possibilities of an epic game this year. More than anything this shows what a crappy deal the MWC got themselves into when they signed on with the mtn. channel. You beat Mighigan in the Big House on ABC, people are gonna notice and say something, you beat NIU at home on the mtn., you move up the rankings but you aren't gonna get much notice for it. Basically the mtn. kills the pub for all parties involved.
Joe Glenn | 6:20 p.m. Sept. 5, 2008
