What a good classy young man. This is what this country needs more of. People that are willing to give back to those that gave to them is a wonderful story.

Yep, still on a rookie contract so that $50K is a pretty good chunk of money for him. He's come a long way from his pillow fort days.

I think that that is awesome that Brewer would donate 50K, and I can't believe that this is the most exciting Jazz news that I have heard in the last month. I can't wait for training camp.

Brewer makes 1.8 million this year, so his 50,000 donation is a little less than 3%. To me that doesn't seem that generous. But it is nice to give no matter how much sacrafice it requeirs

So nice to hear good news about any of these young men instead of how troublesome they could be. I think we have a fine batch in our current Jazzboys and I can't wait for it all to get started again. I remain an ardent cheerleader.

Not that generous? Lets see you donate 3% of your salary then

Not that generous, I echo. Doug, when you give 3% of your income for the betterment of others, I will applaud you. Right now the applause goes to Ronnie. He is young, he doesn't make the mighty dollar that some NBA players make, but he is still willing to give. Just maybe as he grows older and makes more $, maybe he will give more. On another note, that is the only donation that we have heard about, maybe he gives more other places, local charaties, his family. He is accountable for his money, and $50 K could have bought him a lot of "Bling" had he chosen that path. Give him a break! He has done more than I could afford to do.

Did you mean requires?(requeirs?)
Utahns | 6:54 p.m. Sept. 4, 2008
You guys would complain if you won the lottery. I have never seen such whiners as in the State of Utah. The guy gives money to a good cause and there is always someone on this site complaining. Get a life. Better said, get off here!!!
Taxes | 10:38 p.m. Sept. 4, 2008
You morons do realize that he probably makes around 900k after taxes, right?

That puts his 50k donation at around 6% or so of his yearly income.

Of course, it is a tax write-off, so that helps.

I don't imagine many people donate more than 5% of their income to any institution that doesn't influence the outcome of their immortal soul.

So one person makes a comment like Doug and all Utahns are morons and whiners. Considering that there's been more people saying basicly "Good job Ronnie!" I don't think a comment like that is called for.

Thanks for being a giver Ronnie.

What you don't realize is that this may not be the only project he donates to.

Thanks Ronnie

Keep in mind that Ronnie has to pay a large percentage to his agent and, as mentioned, a large portion to taxes. I'm also impressed that he is giving to an academic program rather than the athletic program. There is NO downside to this, only kudos much deserved.

Another thing on this donation, the article didn't indicate if it was a 1 time donation or structured (5 years at 10K a year; 2 years at 25K). A lot of the time with BIG University donations they are done in installments (ie: Big Daddy Warbucks gives $10MM to the BYU it's probably 1M/year over 10 years).
