So, Sarah Palin is the mother of her fifth child. That's good to know. That
means she risked the life of a Down's syndrome baby by flying back and
forth to Texas in what she thought was the last month of her pregnancy.
She's 44, with an at-risk pregnancy, and decided to fly home with leaking
amniotic fluid.
At least her judgment is no worse than McCain's.

It would seem that the investigative reporting wing of the media, freshly
awakened after an eighteen month snooze as they studiously ignored the socialist
background and leanings of Senator Obama now rejoice at the prospect of fresh
Republican meat to feed upon.

The ink is still wet on her signature as McCain's VP pick and already the
headlines scream of "Stunning Palin Disclosures". McCain's
judgmental skills unfortunately become suspect in light of the baggage she
brings. In his exuberance to bring a woman on the ticket he either failed to
vet her properly or ignored the reports. Like it or not many voters will equate
her daughters pregnancy with lax parenting and moral guidance in spite of
Obama's call to keep children "off limits". They will wonder if
the governor has and will successfully balance family and political life and how
she can handle the challenges of a special needs infant with the stress and long
hours she's signed up for.

Palin is killing not only McCain but also the republican party. McCain is an
idiot anyway so in a way its a good thing. So far, most of the things we are
learning about Palin are not good things and thus McCains gamble on picking an
unknown is back firing big time. For them to try and say "that many
families have these problems" is a cop out and its not taking the
responsibility for their mistakes. Problems like teen sex and getting pregnant,
drunk driving et all. Now Palin has a lawyer to fight the other problems....what
a bad choice for VP McCain!

The media will probably eventually also highlight the fact that Sarah Palin has
made political enemies even within her own party in the alaska State legislature
(e.g. Senate President Lyda Green). Also to eventually come out is how close
and privy her husband Todd has been in the decisions, meetings, and
correspondence of the governor's office (e.g being cc'd on
confidential government e-mail), especially those involving the Alaska oil and
gas industry.

These types of things happen in homes throughout the entire country including in
Utah. What is admirable to me is that the parents are supportive and are
expressing unconditional love for their child at a very difficult time in her
life. I saw first hand parents in the church who almost disowned their children
who were pregnant and unmarried. Please don't point fingers at this
family. They are showing unconditional love and support.

The Mormon Republicans curse Obama for attending Rev Wrights church because of
Wright's 'damning of America' but embrace a woman who sits in
the pews of a church which on a regular basis condemns Mormons to hell - always

Four out of the five posts so far are completely overeacting. I decided not to
vote for McCain a long time ago and I don't like Obama either. However,
these Palin details were being intentionally disclosed so they wouldn't get
twisted into lies. I personally really don't see what is the big deal. It
sounds like these are all issues the Palin's have already dealt with
internally. Look into past presidents and you'll see real judgement
problems. Clinton was/is a rapist for crying out loud. Bush (43) put together
one of the most dishonest manipulative cabinets since Harding. Each of those
guys was a worse choice than Palin (except Powell). And Reagan probably
wasn't medically fit to be president most of his last term and that is one
of those things that really should have been "vetted" or made known to
the voters at the time. Anyway, this seems to be a matter of "spin"
and too many of you seem to be bitter of have an agenda.

Children make their own personal choice no matter how good the parents. Obama
came from a young mother and he managed to turn out just fine. As for his
mother, she managed a PhD. Would it really have been better for Palin's
daughter to have quietly aborted the fetus so that this gossip would never have
made the newspaper? The answer seems a resounding yes, but oddly from
Conservative Christians. No wonder I don't accept your religion...the pews
are filled with hypocrites.

Have mercy on them all. I hope you are never judged as harshly as you are
judging others. It would be wise for all who intend to comment on this story
that you reflect upon John 8:7 where the Lord invited those who were without sin
to be the first to cast a stone. This has nothing to do with McCain's
judgement or Palin's fitness as a candidate. It is in fact life and they
are doing what is right.

not forget that every family has it's blemishes, regardless of political
party. Al Gore's son Albert Jr., was arrested twice for driving under the
influence- of marijuana- and reckless driving in those incidents at over 110
mph. Yet somehow nobody implied that Albert Jr.'s poor judgment
disqualified his father from holding publilc office as the VP. Bill
Clinton's brother had legal woes, and Jummy Carter had a chronically drunk
embarassment for a brother. Yet these men were elected President. To those who
would throw out Palin because her daughter made a mistake and is doing the
honorable thinkg in choosing to raise the baby, I hope you never have teen
children, because he who casts the first stones...

Unless your perfect why jump on someone elses problems. We all have some sort
of problem or more in our lives. The only perfect person whom walked the earth
was crucified going on 2000 years ago. I also believed he called people like us
hipocrits. At least the one thing that I can agree with Mr. Obama on is leave
Govornor Palin's family alone and keep them off limits. That is the way it

Secondly, don't you think 20 years is long enough that we should forgive and forget her husband's DUI? And thirdly, why is a pregnant daughter an automatic license for condemnation of her parents?
Regarding the termination of a state employee, let it play out. She's a bright enough woman, that I rather doubt there was a personal motivation.

The fact that mom being governor letting her 24 yo soon to be son in law off the
hook for statutory rape should disqualify her. She should have known who her
underage daughter was dating. And if she knew, she was complicit with her baby
getting pregnant.

I totally agree with your posting. I was shocked when McCain picked Palin over
Mitt Romney or any of a dozen other more qualified Republicans (Condaleza Rice,
for example).

Parents whose children have not made mistakes have not lived long enough. If we
disqualify people from service because their children are less than perfect, we
disqualify nearly all of our great leaders. I'm less interested in whether
their children make mistakes than how they handle the situation when they do.

With the selection of Palin as VP, I am left wondering what are they thinking!!!
While I admit I know nothing about her except what I read, how will this women
balance her life as a parent and VP? It is hard enough with a regular job.

Sounds like the whole Utah Democrat party is ginnin up on this lady. The
foregoing comments reveal a distinctive odor exposing liberal narrow minded
perspectives. These comments are not shared with any of MY conservative friends
and acquaintances. We may have to have DNA testing on those who wish to add

John Edwards allegedly fathered a child outside of wedlock, well he was married
but not to the mother of that child and his wife was just diagnosed with breast
cancer...but I digress. Out of wedlock pregnancies occur, even in the best of
families just like drug issues (Al Gore) can plague good families.
More important to ask is who will be able to discuss issues with Putin. Based on his recent tiger hunt, I would have to write that Palin would be able to play good 'ole boy far better than even Obama and he is running for President.

She has no experience in foreign affairs and would have to rely on "experts" in the cabinet (think Rove, Cheney, and you get goose bumps). She really has no experience, less than two years, as an administrator.
Now we discover that she said YES to McCain though she knew that the daughter was pg and would soon be the attention of the media. Palin could not resist the glory of running for vp, she did not know she was underqualified at any speed. She is all giggles, shouts, and sureness: as we say, she doesn't know what she doesn't know.

Trying to scare people with "Hussein" Obama is wrong. We can't
choose our name, parents choose that. I'm not sure I'll vote for
Obama or McCain, but I don't buy this "muslim terrorist"

Here we go - the biased media jackels have painted Palin as a harpy who
threatens us all...and, by extension, her family also demonstrates a certain
inability to measure up. Similar swill is thrown at virtually all Republican or
conservative candidates for office...as if the media represents the majority of
Americans. Meanwhile the Dems, to a man or woman, are given free passes when
they show similar behavior. Of course the "ignorant masses" here in
fly over country are not supposed to be smart enough to notice the biased

The fact that Palin's daughter has chosen to do the right thing in her
circumstances is certainly in stark contract to Obama's statement that if
his daughter made a mistake he wouldn't want to "punish" her with
a baby.

And in a recent poll, 87% of Alaskans believed she lied about Troopergate (and she did; she is on record as saying she exerted no influence, and no one did on her behalf, then a recorded call turned up - suddenly she says she may have).
She claims to be about reforms: lets look at her record of procuring $40 million in Federal earmarks (pork barrel spending) for a 7,000 pop. village.
And finally, she claims to have told Congress "no way" on the Bridge to Nowhere. But she campaigned, and won as governor campaigning FOR IT. She only changed her tune when the national flak hit the fan.
There are many more reason to distrust the skills of Sarah Palin, than her parenting or personal life.

Wow! it is really funny watching the conservatives on these boards trip over
themselves calling for compassion and to with hold judgment. I agree that her
daughters pregnancy and her down syndrome baby are not relevant to the
conversation but it is funny watching you all chock on your own words. not so
fun now that the shoe is o0n the other foot. Maybe you could learn soemthing
from Obama's comments, but I doubt it, to hard a bill to swallow.

With a headline like that you'd think Palin had committed adultery or
murder. But no, it's typical family stuff that happens in this day and age.
Twenty years ago her husband made a bad judgement call and drove after drinking
and got caught. I bet there are many reading this who have driven with alcohol
in their system. But it's more fun to judge others no doubt. In this age of
sexual permissiveness I'm amazed that a reporter would have the chutzpah to
refer to her daughter's pregnancy out of wedlock as a "stunning
disclosure." I mean, McCain's daughter is gay--let's hold McCain
accountable for that, shall we? In the end, none of these revelations have any
bearing on Palin's competency to act in the role as McCain's VP. Let
it go already and let's focus on issues, not personal smears and attacks.

A 17 year old is not prepared to be a parent. The honorable thing to do would
be to relinquish the child for adoption.
Sarah needs to spend more time with her children. McCain is too old to be President. He was taken in my Sarah's good looks. He deserves to lose this election. Obama is a poor choice as well. We don't have much to choose from this election. Heaven help us this next 4 years.

I may be in the minority here, but I think Palin will do just fine. An
unplanned pregnancy is something many families encounter. The fact that her
daughter will have the baby and marry is great. They're setting a good
example for how families should handle these difficult situations.
I do hope, however, Palin realizes "abstinence only" sex ed is a failed policy.

To "Evangelical lead". DO NOT speak for me as a Mormon. You have no
right. You know evidently "nothing" about Mormons or you would't
be making such a stupid statement. Get your facts straight. You can only speak
for yourself. Keep it that way. The negative opinions and statements about John
McCain and Sarah Palin are pathetic. When did you become a judger of the human
race? We all choose our direction and sometimes it is wrong but the
daughter's choice does not reflect at all on her upbringing. The daughter
chose to fool around..you play..you pay sometimes. Thank goodness she has loving
and supportive parents. I think Sarah Palin is a terrific choice for the VP and
hopefully she is tough-skinned because she has her work cut out for her with all
the so-called "perfect people" standing in judgement. Think back many
years - is it possible you may have made a mistake? Get a grip!!!!!

As they say.....the hits just keep on comin'! We have an unqualified ex
beauty queen, ex sportscaster governor with less than 2 years experience and a
journalism degree, who's being investigated for ethics violations(emails
& phone calls coming out shortly), who was a member of the Alaska
Independent Party that wants to secede from the US, who has a husband with a DUI
record, and who has a 17 year old unwed pregnant daughter. And this is the best
that John McCain could come up with for his vp selection. Reality is stranger
than fiction.
