How is an expected outcome "stunning"?
Alta Alum | 6:01 a.m. Aug. 30, 2008
Way to play all the way till the end of the game. It would have been easy to give up trailing 17-3 at the end of the first quarter, but this team showed a lot of heart. From the second quarter on, the Hawks pummled Bingham into oblivian! Alta's defense is stellar the toughestest defense in the state, and this offense is a wrecking crew. Ammen Olsen is a stud with a cannon for an arm and the receivers, well, They're unbelievable. If this team can stay healthy, I don't see anyone beating them this year. Keep up the hard work Hawks. You're a lot of fun to watch, and you provided a great showing for the alumni last night.

Just wanted to say that inspite of the great rivalry- Both teams showed a lot of class all game! Great attmosphere and even greater game! I wish both teams the best this season!

may I be the first to say I told you so that Alta would prevail. To my knowledge Bingham did lose some key players from their senoir class. I didn't even see the one player that use to pretty much dominate for Bingham on offence and defence in your little league. I know my boy never looked forward to defending that kid. sorry for your lose bingham..good job alta....way to come back and play well as a team!!! GO HAWKS
former miner fan | 7:48 a.m. Aug. 30, 2008
binghams glory days are over(at least for this year). They have had great talent in the past which has taken them to the top, but their coaching and play calling has always lacked. now with a mediocre team, they need to actually play beyond their talent which is a feat impossible for them. They are lacking the basics this year. from an o-line that cant protect their q.b. to corners and d-backs that are quick, but far undersized. its not hard for other teams to figure out binghams weaknesses and pick them apart. bingham does have the talent there, they just need to work at it this year(and make some changes in their d-secondary). binghams coaching staff has shown that changes will be too-little, too late.

I commented last week about a average Hawks team I was not impressed with. However "WOW" Hawks really came into their own yesterday night. The defense looked so much better than last week, they adjusted very well after last weeks SF game. Alta's offense I was worried about and I wasn't sure if they had it in them to preform like last years offense (running and throwing). In the 4th quarter when Hamilton realized hey Ammon Olsen isn't a running QB ,and focused on his down field passing strength the Hawks really opened it up. We only saw glimpses of that early in the game. I was not a fan of Olsen and thought Brown should have started. However Ammon you proved me wrong congrats on a great game. There were a few bad QB decision Ammon made in the game but I know he will have those kinks worked out as the season goes on. Great hands receivers. Alta will defend their title. Again congrats Hawks!!!

OVER-RATED!
AltaAlum | 8:09 a.m. Aug. 30, 2008
Good game as always. It was more one sided than the score indicated. Missed opportunities in the red zone and special teams kept the miners in the game. Alta was their own worst enemy with the turnover that led to the Bingham field goal and the safety. Great game though. Best and classiest rivalry in state. Curious to see how the miners will come back and handle the deficit. Dave Peck is a great coach though. Hopefully the two will meet for a great rematch in the title game again.

What are you talking about. Who are the senior players that "used to dominate in little league" that aren't playing now? Every player who was key when the boys were young and taking state every year is still playing. Did your boy play B ball? Because all of the A players were there last night playing. Gotta give it to Alta. They could've given up early when they were down by a lot but kept playing hard. Bingham, you had a big lead and didn't put them away. You've got to figure out a way to do that.
What was that? | 9:45 a.m. Aug. 30, 2008
How does Bingham feel this morning? Now for two weeks in a row they have had lackluster preformances.

Two great kick returns go for not!

Bingham has the worst pass coverage in America and they have proved that two weeks in a row.

Only one defender has a great game...#42. The rest of the so called studs of the defence were horrible.

The only thing worst than the defense was the offence. The Quarterback spent the whole game running for his life. And when he did have time to throw, he was mostly just....YIKES

How does Lambourne keep his Job. That may have been the worst play calling in the history of football. Get some creativity for Heck sakes.
Studentbody left and right went out with the '72 Packers. Some times you have to pass to set up the run. But I guess being conserative and afraid to be bold keep coaches employeed. BUT IT DOESN'T WIN CHAMPIONSHIPS!!!

Bingham, you have more kids on your roster than any team in the state and you have no lost to two teams many feel you should have beaten. It's goint to be a looonnng season.
to, to told you so | 9:54 a.m. Aug. 30, 2008
Keep living in the little league glory. Alta is the FAR superior team. State championships in little league don't mean much, espically since the whole state isn't involved! Bingham got what was coming to them. Hopefully BYU didn't see the preformance turned in by their guys from Bingham last night. I can hear verbal committments beign reniged on from my front porch in South Jordan.

Over 100 guys on the Bingham sidelines and not one cornerback or safety to be found! That's embarassing.
Football | 9:56 a.m. Aug. 30, 2008
I guess its a battle between PG, Alta, Davis, Northridge and Layton when Jackson gets healthy.......nice game Hawks. We'll see who endures
Alta | 10:13 a.m. Aug. 30, 2008
You proved me wrong, I also was not an Olsen fan and felt Brown should have started. Hamilton realized this was not the team from last year and stopped calling plays as if Rosenvall was the QB. They are different QB's, Olsen is a pocket guy with great down field vision. The 2nd half Hamilton ran Olsen's type Offense and played to his strengths not Rosenvall's. I think still Les you should pass a bit more because Olsen can do more. The defense was like night and day different than last week. They are very good!!!!

What happened to Bingham? There Offense was almost non existant. They are not the team from the last two years. Go Hawks!
Alta Fan | 10:30 a.m. Aug. 30, 2008
Great atmosphere and great game. It's just week 2 and it's a long road to a championship. Special teams need a lot of work. Be nice to see more of a running game. Bingham's secondary was pathetic. Olsen seems to be the real deal, just needs to be better with his decision making.
QB FACTORY!!! | 10:36 a.m. Aug. 30, 2008
Look at what Les Hamilton is doing at Alta with his QB's. He has Olsen, Brown, Handley all are developing well. Last years QB Rosenvall is in southern Cal turning heads and winning games. Something needs to be said about what he is doing with his QB's and how he is developing his program year in and year out. I'm surprised he is not coaching at a college somewhere.
to: Football fan | 10:44 a.m. Aug. 30, 2008
Shut up about anyone QBing for Alta other than Ammon. You sound like Brown's dad and need to stay off the blogs. Parents always open their mouth when they should just keep it shut and support the entire team not just their kid. Thats how great programs become mediocre when parents start only caring about stats and what their son is doing and if he is getting recognized!

Heres some advice support the team and if your son is as good as you think he is then he will be able to perform on the biggest stage where college coaches are always watching. Coaches know who can play and who can't it's not about stats!
To: Alta | 10:56 a.m. Aug. 30, 2008
Are you kidding me throwing the ball more? I think Alta needs to get a RB worth anything and be more balanced. Not to mention Olsen is a stud and good thing Hamilton doesn't listen to you or he would have been on the bench. Brown is good but not going to out play Olsen!

I want to see the combo attack like last year with the run and pass. This year it's all pass no run. That won't win championships when it gets colder.
Agree with QB Factory!! | 10:56 a.m. Aug. 30, 2008
Seriously the QB's that Hamilton has produced are amazing so far. Even before Rosenvall, I can't remember the kids name but he was way fast and more of a runner than a QB but he has developed that position into a power that is hardly matched except maybe at Logan.
RE: To told you so | 10:59 a.m. Aug. 30, 2008
Maybe they should not have been "A" players? What does Ute Conference football have to do with a "high" school football game anyway? Was it the best players, or daddys "A" team in little league?
A and B | 11:23 a.m. Aug. 30, 2008
Only in Utah would people argue over A players and B players from pee wee football. I'm amazed how much former coaches and players from pee wee football live those glory days out late into life. It's pee wee football, guys. From the time a kid is 12 or 13 until they are 17 or 18 so much can happen. Bodies change, genetics, hard work, interest, which many people lose because of over-zealous parents.

Get a grip on your glory days. So many of you people who coach pee-wee footbal wouldn't last one week in high school or college.

Congrats to Alta!
0-2 | 11:23 a.m. Aug. 30, 2008
My 11 year old could tell me what Bingham was going to run just based on their formation. Alta's backers filled in the gaps on run blitzes and destroyed Binghams run at the point of attack. No quick slant patterns to your recievers or quick over the top passes to your T.E. in the playbook? Do something to keep the linebackers honest! Maybe you thought you could do it on Q.B. sneeks, runs up the middle (with linebackers blitzing) and 30 yd. pass patterns as your Q.B. gets killed. Terrible play calling! Binghams coaching never gave them a chance for victory.
Alta's coach had a brain frt. at the end of the second half that could have cost them another 3 points. 6 seconds is a long time to have your Q.B. run around on 4th down. Bingham should have gotten a F.G. att. from that one. All in all Alta's coaches did a great job playing to their own strength and Binghams weakness (opposite of Binghams coaching philosophy).
Bingham has the soldiers to win these battles. I only hope their coaches can adapt to allow them to win.

Re: A and B | 11:58 a.m. Aug. 30, 2008
Trust me, it's not only in Utah. It's pretty bad in the East. Sadly, it's not only in Utah.
Alta Boyii | 11:59 a.m. Aug. 30, 2008
Hey Bingham fans that are complaining about losing key players. Alta has a whole 4 returning players. It is a completely different team. Go alta.
To told you so | 12:28 p.m. Aug. 30, 2008
You are totally missing the point. All I am asking is who the players are that Bingham is missing? Nobody is trying to live in the glory days. Little league doesn't meet squat, we all know that, we are simply asking a question. When it is being said that several key seniors are missing, we would like to know who you are claiming they are. Nothing more. Quit trying to make it into something else. If you read my original blog that's all it was, a question. So again, for the second time, Who are the senior players that Bingham is missing? Names please.

Bandwagon | 2:23 p.m. Aug. 30, 2008
Everyone wants a part of the winning team. . looks like lots of people are jumping off Binghams bandwagon. . I guess the Miners are going to have to dig deep and find it within the team because they are slowly losing their fans faith. Good Luck Miners. I still believe in you 100%. . Hold your heads up and dig deep. I know we will see Alta again this season. All the more reason to make those who dont believe feel stupid. GO MINERS!!!!!!!
Anonymous | 2:53 p.m. Aug. 30, 2008
What a stupid biased view of a good game. What a comment "the Hawks thoroughly dominated the Miners on both sides of the ball". Did you watch the same game I did? Alta struggled for three quaters to move the ball against the Miners until finally the Miners legs gave out. The Miners once again shot themselves in the foot with a couple of dumb penalties. One for a block in the back that took a touchdown of the scoreboard and another for sideline encroachment that cost a first down. The only true two facts about Bingham is they do have a weak secondary and they need some creativity when it comes to their play calling. The season is far from over. Alta still has to play Skyline
responder to told you so | 3:05 p.m. Aug. 30, 2008
Do you have OCD ? Who cares what players bingham lost. they don't play now so what difference does it make. all they said was, Bingham use to be dominate - that is a fact. but not this year!! Good Luck Bingham in the games to come.
respect to both teams | 3:14 p.m. Aug. 30, 2008
i remember a time when alta used to be in the same position as bingham is now. bingham is a great team, has great coaches, and overall their program is authentic. alta should realize that even though they won, it doesn't mean anything towards achieving a state championship. it's week two, and i expect both teams to sharpen up on all sides of the ball. go hawks

re. anomymous | 4:15 p.m. Aug. 30, 2008
What game were you watching? Outside of two returns (special teams), Bingham did NOTHING!!! Alta outscored you 24-2 following the 1st quarter. Oh yeah, the punt return in the 1st quarter, bad illegal block in the back right in front of back judge and Binghams bench that was not called! If that gets called I'm guessing that you don't score that second touchdown. Alta 27, Bingham 10. Your offense couldn't do anything against the Hawks defense. This defense is better than last years squad. Remember last year, when it was 21-3 at halftime. Then a punt return returned for a touchdown where the Binham player stepped out of bounds. again, if the refs make the calls, you were not in that game either. Just admit it, the Hawks have donminated that past two meetings. Alta is just going to get better, barring any injuries, and I do see them repeating. Also food for thought! Thess Alta Seniors are undefeated in high school! Go Hawks!
QB Factory | 5:07 p.m. Aug. 30, 2008
I watched the Alta vs Bingham games this past week. It looked to me like varsity has their guy, JV has their QB and the Sophomores are very questionable on QB. Altas 2nd QB in the Sophomore game moved the ball much better than the 1st QB did.
LMK Dante | 6:11 p.m. Aug. 30, 2008
Number 10 on Alta is an absolute monster. Parker Webster is one of the best wide outs Utah has ever seen. On the other side of the ball Brandon Weiss and Trey Phillips possibly two of the best defensive players in the nation, controlled the tempo through out whole game
top teams | 6:12 p.m. Aug. 30, 2008
I'm curious to who everyone this the teams to look out for are this year?? I think Alta obviously is one, and Bingham is too even though they are 0-2 at this point. Other teams to look out for: Davis, LP, PG, Skyline, Northridge. Anyone agree?
re: top teams | 6:42 p.m. Aug. 30, 2008
I agree. I am a fan in Region One and the two teams i see battling for the region crown is Davis and Northridge. M'akafi is a beast and N Ridge returns a hungry group on defense. In my eyes Davis a top 3 defense and many dangerous weapons on offense with Hinds and Fowler. It all starts at the line and Davis has two potential all staters with Cowser and Kariya. N Ridge is very impressive and proves they can win the big games. I am very excited for the Davis N Ridge game and hopefully it goes into double overtime again like last year. Viewmont will finish lower then syracuse. Not very convinced with Utah County teams, but time will tell if they are legit.
Anonymous | 6:45 p.m. Aug. 30, 2008
went to the game.. both teams have potential but still need a lot of work! bingahm has bad offense of line and bad pass coverage.. alta has No running game what so ever. so when these teams meet again in champioship
MVP | 6:56 p.m. Aug. 30, 2008
Offense did a great job moving the ball and getting away from their horrible running game this week. Running the ball was not working against Bingham and the coaching staff was smart enough to make the necessary changes. Olsen was great once again and so were Webster and Liston. MVP on offense goes to Olsen this game. Defense was incredible and they almost solely should be credited for the win yesterday. Extraordinary standouts on Defense were Hausknecht, Davies, Weiss, Al Ho-Ching, Adams, Phillips, Bigelow and Smart. MVP on Defense goes to Hausknecht this game. MVP of the game was much harder to narrow this week. After contemplating who should receive MVP for this game, I think there should only be one clear choice for the game and the MVP of the game goes to the Defense. Congratulations Alta defense!!! Congratulations Hawks on a great game as a team. Great job coaches.
bingham fan | 7:34 p.m. Aug. 30, 2008
Hey Lamborne, the 1970's called, they want their play calling back. Up the middle went out with "Up With People". Try something new.

The last time your play calling worked was when players were wearing leather helmets. Get with it or get going...somewhere else!
coaching | 7:47 p.m. Aug. 30, 2008
there is a reason alta has the best recieving core to come throught the state of utah, it includes more then the talented webster, zack liston, cj anderson and seth beccerra are also great recievers.

but the coach doug berry was an all american at suu and took alta to its first state title. and his coaching has really helped develope those kids
Why the Surprise | 8:08 p.m. Aug. 30, 2008
Binghams offense hasn't changed in years. Nobody complained the last 3 years because they had atleast 2 superstar rb's each of the 3 years. Now the complaining starts all over again because no stars at rb. I'm with the guy who cancelled his subscription to comedy central because listening to Bingham fans is nothing short of High Humor.Earlier in the summer there was all kinds of talk of passing the ball way more than ever before. Why does anyone think they would ever do that? I could see this coming from a long ways away!!
Predictability | 8:13 p.m. Aug. 30, 2008
Bingham fans are as predictable as Lambourne's offense but funnier to listen to.
bingham | 8:24 p.m. Aug. 30, 2008
to bad so sad lets get them next time
highschool fan | 8:29 p.m. Aug. 30, 2008
its not so much alta's rb's. its more there line. alex rivas had an all state preformance agianst sf. when the d line wasnt as strong. i know the hawks will find a way to get that going agian. and when you put that together with olsens arm and the incredible recievers.. i see a repeat
re: re: anomymous | 9:23 p.m. Aug. 30, 2008
Bingham did nothing? There defense shut down Alta for the majority of the game and almost won the game for them in spite of their secondary. Like I said if Bingham's players hadn't had all of their leg cramping going on I think Alta would be doing all of the complaining. It's going to be fun to watch Alta struggle against Skyline not to mention a much improved Kearns team who is 2-0. Unfortunately I don't think Bingham - Alta will see each other in the championship game again this year. Although, I am sure the Bingham player's would relish the oppotunity for revenge.
Bingham Cramping | 10:41 p.m. Aug. 30, 2008
So what about cramping, Alta had a ton of their starters hurt and playing hurt. Not to mention they were missing starters. You only hear it here because we don't complain or make excuses.
to highschool fan | 11:31 p.m. Aug. 30, 2008
A.R. is okay, I would not call that an all-star performance against Spanish. Anyone could have done that against that team. He is not close to what Alta has had last two years with either of their three backs. What happened to the kid at Snow camp that was incredible? He ran circles around the other RBs down there and was clearly the starter to everyone that saw him run. Have not seen him since that day. Is he hurt? I think he was Polynesian. Anyone know his name? He looked better than what I have seen the last two games from our RBs. Nothing against any of our players, just the hard truth.
