President McCain is widely expected to name his choice for vice president on his Birthday. Let's hope it's Mitt. It would be nice of he made it the same day as Obamacon's speech and used his same word's of "I HAD A DREAM" - MLK speech, Obamacon is going to say there at the ballpark. After all, it's a two way street out there, not a Obamacon "one way street" only. As Howard Dean thinks.
Ed Bentley | 12:18 p.m. Aug. 28, 2008
I hope it's mitt, as well. He'll not only deliver the key swing state of Utah, but he's good for fillng column space here in the news. Plus, his presence will again draw attention to how divisive and counter productive religion is to the political process, and how much it doesn't belong there.

Brother Chuckcon - Can we cancel the general election now that you have appointed McSame POTUS?
Having McSame use Dr. King's "I had a Dream" speech would be ironic - a rich white man of inherited and married wealth recalling the aspiration of black perople's struggle for equality.
Is this a great country or what?
It may be a two way street Bro, but you're going against the oncoming traffic.

Ed - How can Utah be a key swing state with only five electoral votes?
Anonymous | 1:57 p.m. Aug. 28, 2008
Yesterday they said the decision was made and it would be announced tomorrow.
Is he confused about this too?!

Full square thought: McCain named his vp but he forgot. The man is suffering from dementia.
It is sad but true. Think about all of the opps moments that the 71? year old has produced in the past 3 months. Early signs of dementia.
Sorry, but it is true.

The speech by Dr. King is titled "I HAVE a dream" but since you're residents of the most bigoted state in the union, I wouldn't expect you to remember such a thing.
Just... | 3:29 p.m. Aug. 28, 2008
don't wait too long McCain, or else you'll forget....LOL!!
Huntsman should be vp | 3:47 p.m. Aug. 28, 2008
McCain should choose Gov. Huntsman. He's smart, articulate, been a governor and an ambassador and run a big company, and he's YOUNG.

It's MN Governor Tim Pawlenty.
It's decided | 6:26 p.m. Aug. 28, 2008
McCain gives Romney the thumb in the eye. It's Pawlenty -- which is probably a pretty good choice -- NOT Romney.

It really does not matter who John McCain picks for his VP. The STENCH of FAILURE, FEAR, and DOUBT DEFINES BUSH/McCAIN.

Anyone McCain names will be better qualified than Obama's choice of Joe Biden.
Neither ticket has much that I can vote for, but Obama's choice of VEEP certainly confirms that their team has nearly everything to vote against.

McCain doesn't just have a verbal gaffe like how many states, McCain makes policy statements about Iraq having a border with Pakistan -- you know, that country with nuclear weapons.
A whole lot more damage will be done about that kind of confusion. You don't want a confused guy rattling sabers at Russia when they've got petroleum to launch rockets and we've irritated every oil-producing country.

Obama is ready to roll. McCain is ready to retire. Obama has a dream. McCain thinks he might have had one.

To Mr. Bentley, and others of the same political persuasion, please wake up and realize that the GOP doesn't think about Utah, except as a place to go for funding. There is NO doubt how your fair state will vote in this election or the next, so why would the GOP care what you think? You're in the bag --- a sure thing. They can and will spend their time, money and future political power on less predictable voters. If you doubt my words, ask yourself how much closer we are to achieving those family values that the GOP only talks about. We should all vote how we believe, but don't be afraid to hold the bums accountable. Look at the third parties for a real change.

What I want to know is what McCain has done for 30 years in the Senate? Has he done anything but cash a paycheck and get his face on TV?
Really! I'm asking.
Really! I'm asking.

When Obama failed to choose Clinton for his VP he lost the election. That was a first big decision he made and he failed.
The Clinton camp will not forget this snub. As soon as all the hoop de hoop finishes in Denver the real world Clinton voters will voice their opinion at the voting booth.

How will UT and the mountain states feel about McCain snubbing Romney?
BigBob | 9:09 p.m. Aug. 28, 2008
Poor Romney, shafted again, once by the GOP mainstream, now by McCain and cronies. Someday he'll learn that pandering to anybody who will listen may get you short term results but not the presidency. Guess he has to find another job for four years to challenge Obama in '12. Too bad there isn't another Olympics to "turn around". Maybe he can make a movie about the challenges of global cooling and poor farmers in Utah.

McCain made a TERRIBLE mistake not making his announcement already. NO ONE is going to want to be on the losing ticket with him after Obama's speech tonight!
Gear S. | 9:41 p.m. Aug. 28, 2008
Thank goodness for Mitt that Johnny Mac picked the Minnesota man. If Mitt ever wants to run again for president, he best distance himself as far from McCain as possible. If McCain wins then it will be Bush de ja vu all over again. A mindless war, trillions of $$$'s more in the red, and a continuous sinking economy. Run Mitt run.
Elkman. | 9:47 p.m. Aug. 28, 2008
Let's hope Mcain does not choose Brother Romney. This would be devastating for the brave Utah Democrats who are trying to defeat the evil doers in our State Legislature. We need to elect Obama and then this will help get more Democrats elected locally. It is imperative that we get rid of Curtis and his band of Special Interest bought politicians. Vote Democratic this fall!!!
to anonymous 6:53 | 9:49 p.m. Aug. 28, 2008
McCain votes very conservatively. Having been our senator for years, I have kept a record of his voting and it is very conservative. He really would like to see less corruption in government.
Eugene | 9:52 p.m. Aug. 28, 2008
Interesting dialogue . . . whether you like McCain or not, his handlers are making you all talk about the Repub VP story when the Obamanites in Denver should be carrying the limelight and the newsline. It must be political brilliance since the supposedly big Democratic poll bounce has been non-existent and McCain has received just as much favorable press for leaking the VP choice might come before Friday. Polls are showing Romney will give McCain a lift. Tomorrow we'll know . . .

Biden has already told us about B. Hussein Obama's capacity or lack of it. He tells us that BO is not ready to be president. And Hillary agrees. I think they are definitely on to something.

Obama's speech tonight was just empty promises. How can he lower taxes for 95 percent of working families, and at the same time raise the salary of all american teachers, invest 150 billion dollars in alternative energy sources, and provide health care? Any economist,...better yet, any american with common sense hopefully saw right through him. And if they didn't, we should be alot more worried about this country.
Idiots.
Idiots.

To Anonymous: Bill Clinton increased the taxes on the top 5% and produced a decade of surpluses. So removing the Bush tax cuts for that group and dropping everyone else's taxes just might work.

Hey, I thought the right wing had a message of "unity, love and respect" What has happened?
Where does the "working person" get a voice?

Re: Lew Jeppson | 2:19 a.m. Aug. 29, 2008
Why is there such a hatred for "rich" people in this country? Without "rich" people who would invest in industry, commerce and science? Why punish the achievers in America? That is why communism and socialism has failed everytime it has been tried! Because there is no longer any incentive to achieve! Why should I work harder than someone else, the governement will just take it way? Why should I invest my money in a country that will tax me into poverty? Why should I or anyone else want to live in a system that punishes those who succeed? Why should you receive what you did not earn? This is exactly why and how liberal socialists will ruin this country! If you want to live in a society like that, move to Cuba! I hear they have "free" health care! What a deal! A Democrat's dream! Steal from the achievers and redistribute to the lazy and unwilling! Sounds like paradise doesn't it?
Re: Lew Jeppson | 3:52 a.m. Aug. 29, 2008
Why should we confiscate an unfair amount of money other people have earned and give it to people who didn't earn it? Why would anyone who lives in such a socialist system want to work harder than anyone else and to achieve more if the government will just take it from him? Why would a successful person invest his brians, his sweat or his money in such a system? If if were not for successful people (rich) there would be no investment, no jobs, no commerce. Poor people do not start companies, hire people or fund scientific development in any field! The best way I know to drive people back to the last century is to elimnate and disincentivise anyone from achiement! Even the Chinese have figured it out! Why can't you liberals????

"What I want to know is what McCain has done for 30 years in the Senate?" -- your question
Really, you're asking? You might want to ask the question about the other candidate as well. What has he done? The only thing I know about him is that he is a good speech writer, but still looking for any accomplishments. Also looking for some authentic views as they seem to change every day. Did you hear him say he was for nuclear power last night -- that is strange, because he has opposed it all along, just like he opposed drilling, but now he is changing on that and his position on pulling out troops -- does this guy have any concrete principles?

Yes. I am really asking. He's spent 3 decades in the Senate and the only accomplishments I know of are selling influence in the Keating Five scandal and writing the McCain-Feingold campaign reform act that he regularly violates.
What has he done for the money he's been collecting for 30 years?

Woops!
Utah republicans. You thought it was going to be Romney. Wow! How stupid are you. You have always been played by the born again base of your party.
They hate you! Us! I am a mormon democrat who understands that religion and politics are not a good mix. How disappointed are you? The point is that if you want to align yourselves with a national political mormon; why not Harry Reid of Nevada? At least he doesn't change his positions just to get elected like Mit did. What a phoney he was.
Had he stayed true to himself and his original beliefs, he might have won the nomination like McCain did. Just a thought but why did you not call him a flip-flopper like you did Kerry?
Because he was one of you and you wanted so desperately to have one of your own part of the equation?
How convenient of all of the right winged mormons to over look Romney's liberal earlier views when he was Governor of Mass.
Wayne Owens is laughing in Heaven right now. Better to be true to your core beliefs and not cow-tow to the hater born-agains.
God Bless Mormons with brains!

Responding to Re: Lew Jeppson,
"Why should you receive what you did not earn?"
This would be a good question for US management that takes an ever greater portion of the pie--even when they perform poorly.
"Why would a successful person invest his brians, his sweat or his money in such a system?"
I'm sure that a lot of Utah teachers ask themselves the same question! Utah has one of the top income levels while spending the LEAST of all 50 states per student. So much for valuing children.
