''Among other things, Romney, looking thin and tan, said Obama made a serious tactical error when he made fun of McCain not immediately listing the number of homes he and his wife own''
Hey Romney is dead right here!! I mean what an insult to ask a zillionaire how many homes he owns! Imagine asking poor old Mitt how many HE owns......... he's got better things to do than think about petty things like this. For instance how to maintain his tan and that super white smile while at the same time trying to figure out where all of the countries poor people came from. Leave these guys alone will ya.........

Romney is calling Obama a flip-flopper? Hahahahahahahaha! Unbelievable. I don't think I even need to mention Romney's well known flip-flops.

Romney would be a perfect VP because he seems to have no set positions of his own - making it easy to accept a president's stances.

Orson Scott Card wrote a very convincing letter asking McCain to NOT pick Mitt Romney. I was forced to agree with it.

McCain has enough of an uphill battle as it is. Romney will not win for McCain any states McCain won't already win; and Mitt will quite probably cost McCain one or more Southern states that McCain desperately needs against Obama.

We can thank good ole' Southern Christian Evangelism. The Evangelists would sooner vote for a gay man or an African American (ergo, Obama) than a "cult member" like Romney.

Alas, I wish it weren't so. I also think Mitt is a terrific candidate and is badly needed. Unfortunately, prejudice in the South and the tight poll numbers make Mitt too risky for McCain.

JMHO.

romney carrying | 5:48 a.m. Aug. 27, 2008
Romney goes to Denver to carry McCain's water. What a lap dog. It is emb. to watch ... it is almost as bad that Romney supporters actually think this is a great assignment or job.

Mitt, quit carrying the water for the guy who hates yah. Are you that desperate to be loved and to set yourself up for failure in 2012?

Quit being the lap dog. Grow up, stand up, get a spine.

I look forward to seeing Mitt Romney try to defend the LDS' legacy regarding racial discrimination in a race in which the key opponent would not have been welcome in Romney's own church at priesthood age.

McCain is ready!! | 5:51 a.m. Aug. 27, 2008
McCain is ready... he wrote out his speech... but he can't remember where he put it... which home? Where? Do we own one of those, honey?

Early dementia has already set in for John McCain. Look at the record of mispeaking, can't remembers, etc. Early dementia has already set in.

When he addresses the faithful in Minn. you will see him read, read, read, the card in front of him because otherwise he will leave the road. He has early dementia. You know it, I know it. Who is going to have the courage to say it outloud?

Mr. T - Please allow me to express my displeasure at your referring to Mitt Romney as "Him", using the capital 'H'. Most of us reserve that designation for a higher authority and despite all of Mitt Romney's exemplary qualities, he has not been elevated to that status.

It takes a lot of gall for Romney or McCain to accuse anyone else of flip-flopping. They've both managed to be on both sides of every major issue. That is, except working to make rich people even richer. They've both been consistantly in favor of creating a permanent layer of American nobility. Romney saved a few corporations, but he did so at the expense of the people who worked hard to build the companies. He could care less about working people. If you're not rich, you're a fool if you vote for Republicans.

Poor Mitt. He seems to have a brilliant mind for ruthlessly making money, but as a person of honor and conviction he seems to be failing badly. After shamelessly pandering as a candidate, he has now become McCain's attack dog. He reminds me of Spiro Agnew.

I find it very entertaining to read the many comments from both sides of this argument. Everyone is so passionate and sure that they are right. I will remind you that we are talking politics here. That means that everyone on both sides will talk a lot about what sounds good and what they think the largest majority of voters want to hear. It is rather sad that there is so much venom being thrown about by both sides. Name calling and passing judgments on the character of a person with only knowing who they are by what you read in the paper or because they are the same religion as you is very irresponsible. Whether you believe in the Bible or not there is very good wisdom in the story that ends with Jesus saying, "Let he who is without sin cast the first stone." You are supposed to have an opinion and be able to choose according to your best judgment, but trying to influence people with snide, sarcastic comments is not productive. Also, irresponsible comments that are full of grammatical and spelling errors only add to your lack of credibility. Use spell check!

I hope he is the pick as well, it would really boost my confidence in a McCain Presidency. I think it is going to be a long shot for Mr. Romney to be selected though.

Romney is typical neocon slime in the Karl Rove, Dick Cheney tradition.

He's gone as far as he will ever go in politics.

Mitt flip-flops | 6:44 a.m. Aug. 27, 2008
Regarding "Mr T" above -- referring to Mitt as a pronoun with a capital "H" as if he's Christ is chilling! Mitt's the "complete package" largely because he's been on all sides of an issue -- he's been both for and against abortion rights, he's for and against universal healthcare, he's been both for and against McCain...

I don't think Mitt is Christ, but I am concerned about his willingness to toss his values to "fit" with whatever the political whims of the times are. McCain has also turned right big time to appeal to the extremes of his party -- McCain's maverick reputation has been tarnished in my eyes. And adding Mitt, both of whom don't like one another -- a divide that goes way back to the 2002 Olympics when McCain criticized all the earmarks sent to Utah for hosting the Games -- could be a real challenge of leadership in the White House!

Qualifications? | 6:45 a.m. Aug. 27, 2008
I hear the argument made frequently, in presidential elections, that one or the other candidate is "not qualified" and I wonder just what are important qualifications to be president?

Here's mine:

1) Intelligence

2) Ability to listen to the opinions of others, and if persuasive, change positions when the evidence is compelling (read not rigid, open minded)

3) Ability to get along well with other people, not an egotist, ability to recognize one's mistakes, etc.

4) Ability to recognize talent and assemble a highly qualified team of people around you. Reagan was good at this. The country is not run by one man, but by a large organization with lots of talented people. As a result, I'm not that concerned if, a candidate has only been in public service a short time if he has the other qualifications listed above.

So, I would ask that we all take a careful look at the candidates and see what the people who've worked with them and know them well have to say about them. I personally don't think Mitt is any more or less qualified to be president than either John McCain or Barak Obama--I can make a case for all three.

Unlike most liberals, | 6:49 a.m. Aug. 27, 2008
I actually have to get going to work soon. So I will post a preemptive challenge to the "only Mormons want Mitt". I do not live in Utah. I do not live in the Mountain West. I live in the South. Many Republicans have told me, "We made a huge mistake with McCain. We need Romney". I even hear it on the radio station, "We need Romney". Therefore, I don't buy the

As an American I think they are right. As a Mormon I am afraid of all the crazies that will now come out of the woodwork. But I think the country needs someone who has actual executive experience and someone who has had to make a payroll - not someone who was a "community activist" or been in government his entire life.

And what experience does the pretty boy have to judge others - how many people understand his business and how he has made his money on the backs of the little person even costing many their jobs. Yep he is the man of the hour
