Even though they don't have the money, they might as well build it. It will be a "make work" project for all the unemployed construction people, just like they had in the 30's.

I remember when Sandy was a quiet little town. I wish it would go back, but I know "progress" steamrolls over the wishes of one man. Hopefully nearby Jordan High uses the facility so it's not a total waste. They seem to be on track to have more resources per student in the state.

My opinion is this is a mistake and is going to be an eyesore.

Why have a master plan and ordances when you drop and change them at the first request?

Now I can better understand the pharoahs in ancient Egypt and their need to build bigger and bigger pyramids. The Sandy leaders have a need to leave a legacy of higher and higher structures with their names on them. What about the needs of the lowly slaves they supposedly represent?

I look forward to seeing huge 30 story sky scrapers when I drive through Sandy instead of a great view of the Mountains. Unfortunately I think this stick it to SLC attitude is eventually going to backfire on Sandy City.

I laughed when I saw an advertisement for a condo development in Sandy. It was selling "urban living". This development will go a long way to help that ridiculous ad be a little more true. But I am like the poster above... I doubt we will see this built to full plan. 30-40 story building??? That will add quite a bit more space than Sandy is ready to fill just yet.

When one looks at the greatest cities in the world, they generally have a solid core, the unlivable cities are generally a sprawling mess with no identifiable center. Sandy's efforts to replace downtown Salt Lake may be good for Sandy in the short run, but they are a disaster for the metropolitain region to be something great in the long run.

City Creek, Cottonwood Mall, South Salt Lake tower,Lehi's Gehry tower, and dozens of others all being built on speculation, that's one big reason why the housing market is in trouble now, GREED! How irreponsible of the Sandy City Counsil, all these projects will finish at the same time with no buyers- and forcing home values down for all of when they go under, tax payers lose! How stupid! When will people learn?

ok, so my question is, how much retail dollar is there to go around. You have all of these developments fighting for your retail dollars. There is only so much money to go around. Sandy Area is in strict competition with its neighbors, but is also losing retail sales as the neighbors expand. I worked at JCPenney southetowne, and when the new store opened up in South Jordan we lost half our sales. As this Sandy area develops Traffic will be a nightmare, which will drive shoppers to easier accessible places. So, is the investment worth it?

What traveling Broadway show would book in Sandy when they could book in SLC? Those nil hotels for out of towners, and cookie cutter restaurants must be the answer!!!!

I'll take Sandy anyday.

Where's the culture? That is what is the core of any city and niether Salt Lake or Sandy is willing to invest in the future of their culture. Small businesses and arts, that is what makes life interesting. Instead they want chain store upon chain store. What happened to the pioneer spirit?

The theater project is just another monument to the EGO of Mayor Tom Dolan. What ever happened to following standard city processes? Is it so important, is the project so close to breaking ground that normal processes can't be followed. Having a week or two between the Planning Commission and the City Council meeting allows every one, proponents and opponents, alike to think and prepare for the next step. After all the work to create landscape standards, they are thrown out here. What are they too expensive or too inconvenient? This way with a joint meeting is just another way to ram the desired result down the community's throat without due process or consideration. In all my years on the Commission nothing like this ever happened. Either Dolan is afraid someone or something is going to snatch the project away or there is something under the table going on. So standard processes are ignored in the service of an EGO. If this keeps up Sandy really will be the "Old Chicago" of the South Valley. The current leadership at the top and in the Planning department is well on its way to earning that reputation "honestly?"

I hope to see the day that we keep it in Sandy. Salt lake is too liberal for me and I don't want people thinking that it is a reflection of the state I choose to live in.

$500 million project in Sandy? Not in 50 years, it will never be built. Maybe the first small structure. Then it will sit there, like the condo project on State Street in Orem, partially finished and broke. Are you nuts? Sandy is not Chicago.
We don't need it and no one will be able to afford it. Just ask any banker.

So who is going to pay for the significant firefighting costs in new equipment and training to handle such buildings? Oh yeah, us as usual. silly me, I forgot we're here to pay the tab for our wanna-be-players known as the city council and mayor.

Where will the funding come from? Why not just move the state capitol to Sandy? The LDS Church is pouring billion in to SLC and they need another focal point near by?

This project will be good for Sandy and good for the state. Another hub of business, cultural and sports activity will create more jobs and spur economic growth.

I would love to see a place for 1st run broadway shows and larger and more comfortable seats with more leg room like in new theaters. Good luck.
