You captured it well. We have all been through it. Many of us - many times. It is always slightly sad and massively invigorating. There is no change I like more than a ward split (possibly a stake split, but that has different dynamics). It means the church is growing. It means new opportunities for spiritual growth. It means the continuing influx of new friends as the ward grows again. Everything about it is exciting.

I love our ever changing Mormon villages.

A big smile on my face...while wiping a tear or two because I know our ward split is just around the corner. Not living in the "LDS clump of states", our ward in the South is truely our FAMILY!

Perfect description of what all active LDS members have been through if they live in a growing area. Right now our ward is tiny geographically, only a few blocks by a few blocks. It is comical to tell someone where you live and have them say, "Oh that's all the way on the other side of the ward." (Three blocks away!)

The smaller the better.

When a ward splits in the East, that means it may only cover 2 counties instead of 4.

Loved the bit about meeting times. There are 3 wards sharing my chapel -- when you have the 1pm meeting time you can sleep in, but on Fast Sunday it can be miserable.

Not all of "Zion" is doomed to splittage. Our dwindling ward (in the Salt Lake area) is going to have to be combined with another soon to survive at all. It's a much different, sadder, more desperate feeling than what Brother Card's ward is going through. And I hope it happens soon.
