I agree that Timpview football is a dominant force in High School football, and I have great respect for a great program, however I don't think that you should over look that fact that over the last 7 years only 3 teams have won a state championship in 4A Football. They are Bountiful, Timpview, and Mountain Crest!!! These programs are always top notch and I think that they are three of the best football programs in the state for the past decade! Cheers to a wonderful, fun, exciting, and hopefully intense football season. No more state championship blow outs!

If the record speaks wong had to sit out a game for a player from Provo(who he tried to get there). So yes wong does know the rules and he breaks them. We will see how they do this year- No class in the program or in the coach.

"Wong is fully aware of criticism that he attracts the top Polynesians to his program and allegations that he recruits. He strongly denies both."
THat is INSANE. What a lie.
I'll start with #2 "that he recruits" No, he doesn't. That's pretty easy to document.
#1 "that he attracts" Sorry Louie, that is absolutely RIGHT. If the parent of a stellar or even above average kid (of any color) lives in the general vicinity of Timpview and that child loves Football ESPECIALLY if they happen to live closer to a program that is less than good???
Well, that parent would have to be borderline abusive to NOT look around and see which school might give their child the best experience.
Does Timpview "recruit"? No
Do they Attract?? Like bees to honey

Level the Playing Field | 9:29 a.m. Aug. 17, 2008
It becomes virtually impossible to evaluate and compliment a program that has in excess of 20 out-of-boundary athletes on its roster. Recruiting is not the issue. The open enrollment law was never intended to be applied in such a way that one or more schools could game the system and attract large numbers of non-resident athletes. To their credit some districts in this state live by the spirit of the law and have closed enrollment and strict policies against athletic transfer of any kind by any means (e.g. first entry). The enactment of "play where you live" rules is the only way we guarantee a level playing field and an end to championship mismatches.
poor article | 10:48 a.m. Aug. 17, 2008
any coaching staff in the state could dominate with the players Timpview has. I would like to see your article tell the real story behind Timpviews success.
recruiting? | 1:04 p.m. Aug. 17, 2008
People who complain about recruiting should do the following: ask yourself why kids are leaving your area to play in others? You will find that when you are losing kids, something you are doing, isn't right. How come no one leaves Timpview, Bingham, Alta football? How come on one leaves Cottonwood baseball? How come no one leaves Lone Peak basketball? How come no one leaves Davis X-Country and Track? Maybe take some time to look in your own backyard and see what is missing. Top notch programs and coaches don't need to recruit, unless, that is by their reputation of being good, honest, and hard workers. I am sick and tired of people pointing fingers, unless they want to point at themselves for once!

I don't see parents of band students complaining about kids leaving to go to Davis or American Fork. The principle is the same. In an open enrollment system, a student/family have the right to choose where they want to go. In a public education system the student has the right to choose.

To 1:04 pm comment: Timpview has had players in football and other sports leave the programs and go to other schools. Recruiting or not, the fault lies with the lame UHSAA we have. They are the ones that need to get a handle on things. Hard and fast rules and actual competent enforcement are what is needed.

I don't think you can compare Timpview to previous dynasties because of open enrollment. When the best athletes can flock to one school and dominate, it is a farce. Whether they recruit or not, it really doesn't matter. Kids can go where ever they want, so why wouldn't you go to the school that will get your name in the papers and get you noticed, and in the mean time get a ring on your finger?
In my opinion, there can be no legitimate dynasty while open enrollment is part of the picture.

Re: Left Timpview | 10:04 a.m. Aug. 18, 2008
You should really get your facts straight; the Utah Legislature enacted open enrollment not the UHSAA. If you really have a beef with it call your representative. The high school association is against open enrollment and supports "play where you live".
Rules??? | 12:40 p.m. Aug. 18, 2008
We should just do away with any and all of the UHSAA enrollment rules. All high schools should be allowed to recruit or "attract" players to their school. Basically just make it a free for all for high school sports. That's the only way other schools will be able to compete with these "dynasty" schools. At the end of the year, officials from the UHSAA could be on hand to pass out trophies and awards and then pat themselves on the back for another successful year. OR, the UHSAA could start to tighten up existing rules and even make new ones to even the playing field eliminating " dynasty" schools. If the UHSAA cannot find a way to enforce their rules, schools like Timpview football should find a out of state region to play in. Then they could play against other dynasty schools for some national trophy.
Re: Rules??? | 5:14 p.m. Aug. 18, 2008
Why would anyone ever do that, all of the kids that want to leave would go to alta bingham or timpview all the top programs why would kids decide to go to a school with a losing record are you kidding me rules hahahaha
If you build it................. | 8:41 p.m. Aug. 18, 2008
In 4a sports you have: Timpview Football, Cottonwood Baseball, Provo Basketball - "If you build it, the will come."
Best Facilities
Best Coaches and number of coaches

They put things in place and then kids come from all boundries everywhere to find a way to play for these schools. No recruiting necessary. As someone above said - "Like bees to honey!"
Thus schools that become a "dynasty." It may not be "fair," it may not be "right," it may be against the rules, and people may lie, cheat and steal to get it done (parents), but it doesn't change the fact that it IS. Guys go there to get recruited and many do (see most TV linemen, see 90% of Cottonwood baseball players, see Collinsworth bros)
It's too bad though because it cheapens the high school state titles and destroys competition!

I agree totally, but I really agree with his last statement:
"
It's too bad though because it cheapens the high school state titles and destroys competition!"
And sadly for the coaches, we never really know if they are truly the best coaches because they always have the best talent.

The best talent? | 11:10 p.m. Aug. 18, 2008
Timpview 2006 Football. Not one school coach, not one media source, picked Timpview to win. They dominated with a spirited defence that played way above their heads. They were not the most talented team in the state, they did not have a dominate offense. They did it with kid who played together as a team and were disciplined in their assignments. Yes there are kids who come to Timpview to play, but they do not replace the homegrown talent of starters that played together since junior high. Someone gives way to much credit to the D1 bound players. In 2006, they won with a group that had limited players heading to D1 schools, in fact the most of the players will never play D1 ball. They played like D1 players because they played like a team.

teams on Timpviews schedule this should forfeit their games out of protest. Chances are Timpview would crush them anyways and even injure a few key players. This way Timpview would not be a "dynasty" team because winning all of their games by forfeit would not mean anything as far as winning goes. Then when they reach the championship game, the team they face would probably beat them because Timpview really hasn't played anyone this year. With this plan, Timpview could still reach the title game undefeated but would get beat by a much more prepared team. So what do say region coaches, sound like a plan.
SUB PAR | 11:36 a.m. Aug. 19, 2008
Timpview is only a good team in Utah. If they went and played any other top team in Texas,California,Florida they would get ran of the field. Stop jocking a team that doesn't play any top programs.

hey as a pg football fan i do like to comment on Coach wong. I think he is a great coach and by what he has said to the media, a very wise coach. just out of curiousity, what if coach wong left timpview for a "less talented school." do you think he could make that team just as good as timpview or is it just a talented coach on a talented team?
To SUB PAR | 1:28 p.m. Aug. 20, 2008
last year Utah teams proved they could play out of state, alta played Cali and won. bingham beat hawaii, cottonwood beat colorado, and jordan put up a fight with georgia after winning the year before.
