I'm a non-Morman, social moderate, fiscal conservative.

Romney was my first choice in the primaries. I'd love to see him on the McCain ticket.

Anyone notice that the Dems are running scared? Tee hee. Can't even wait until the VP is announced. Well, I can't think of one VP that will keep the Obama Messiah up in his clouds once the onslaught of ads starts and we learn who he REALLY is, rather than who he wants us to think he is. Obama is a phony!
Effie | 5:32 p.m. Aug. 15, 2008
I'll probably be holding my nose on election day. However, IF there is a McCain/Romney ticket I will be able to breath freely as I cast my vote. An Obama presidency would be devastating to not only the US but the world. A McCain presidency (at its worst) would be light years better. Romney would actually make a better president than McCain. The comments from "Outstanding Politician Barney", etc. sounds like the Dems are a wee bit worried!!! Romney has integrity, always in short supply with most politicians.

Romney's flip flops make him look like typical politician, common in both parties, including Rep. Jay Inslee from WA state. I wonder who the DNC would like McCain to choose for running mate instead of Romney? After all, they helped pick McCain as the GOP nominee, and he's done pretty well so far.
Stephanie | 5:33 p.m. Aug. 15, 2008
The Democrats just wish they had someone in their party as good as McCain and Romney. The truth is that they don't and never have. And never will.
Robert Jones | 5:35 p.m. Aug. 15, 2008
I am so impressed. Romney must be doing a lot of things right to be attacked like this. The Dems must be terribly afraid of losing again. Sad case. I feel their pain.
Jeff Roe | 5:37 p.m. Aug. 15, 2008
Any time a far-left Liberal or self-declared Socialist say something about any Republican or Conservative politician (or anything else for that matter) they should start their diatribe with either: "You know I've done this in the past too, but..." OR "You know I'm in favor of taxing the crap out of my constituents, increasing the Federal bureaucracy, and doing everything I can to block helping Americans with high energy prices but...".

Good luck with all of that.

Some more "Change" from the Democrats!
Sick of the Obama-go-round | 5:38 p.m. Aug. 15, 2008
Interesting, Obama's "people" set up a site just to attack Romney? Could it be that people are starting to actually evaluate Obama's positions and need a distraction? Obama has so many changing positions....I'm still waiting to hear when those middle class tax cuts are going to take effect....like tax the rich except, Obama said "they won't be paying those higher taxes until 10 years from now." I love being a senior citizen and seeing all the things Obama is going to do to/for/against me. I'm just hoping he doesn't promise the 40 and unders that he will cut Medicare costs by ethanizing seniors who cannot pay their way and end up costing taxpayers too much. Remember he alone stood up to do that to late babies who survive botched abortions so who's to say he won't put us old folks down the same? Obama is like the mirrors on a merry-go-round ...kind of makes you sick if you watch it too much.

Obama-Clinton Ticket for 08 Dream ticket
would be right up there as a Bush-Cheney Ticket
Mc | 5:43 p.m. Aug. 15, 2008
A Republican strategist on MSNBC's Hardball just stated that his pick for VP is Mitt Romney. It's not just wishful thinking in Utah, but may actually be a reality in a couple of weeks. As people get to know Mitt Romney they will realize the strengths that he offers and religious fears will melt away. There will always be bigots who will never give it up, but most will get over it.
Danielle | 5:52 p.m. Aug. 15, 2008
ANY NEGATIVE REMARKS FROM BARNEY FRANK ABOUT MITT ROMNEY PROVES THE BUFFOON THAT BARNEY IS. ANY ONE WHO SITS IN OFFICE AFTER THE CONDUCT HE HAS EXHIBITED SHOULD BE CHASTISED AND IGNORED. WHAT A DISGRACE AS A PERSON!!!!!
MITT ROMNEY WITH HIS BACKGROUND IN BUSINESS MANAGEMENT WOULD BE THE IDEAL VP FOR JOHN McCAIN.
Nicolle | 5:52 p.m. Aug. 15, 2008
Actually Captain Obvious that's not true. God did speak with Joseph Smith in the First Vison.
wrz | 5:53 p.m. Aug. 15, 2008
My bet for McCain's VP is Colin Powell. He's been Sec of State, Chairman of Joint Chiefs, and National Security Advisor. Unfortunately, he 71 years old.
RussL | 5:54 p.m. Aug. 15, 2008
The main reason Democrats are afraid of Romney is that he can read a contract and spot perks, graft and greed. As head of the Senate, Romney will take out his red pencil and underline waste and corruption and bring it to the attention of the Senate floor before they vote.
Bob M. | 5:54 p.m. Aug. 15, 2008
The Dems hate him this much, tells me he is the one.
Tim | 6:01 p.m. Aug. 15, 2008
Sounds like the DNC is a little worried. Not too hard to see what they are afraid of. A McCain/Romney ticket would clean obama/?

Anthony | 12:13 p.m."

"I witnessed Mitt Romney turn around Taxachusetts in four years by lowering taxes and streamlining government. He is a man who will always do what he thinks is best for his country. His wife and family have always been first class. We should be so lucky to have him as vice president. He was a breath of fresh air for our state full of Democrat corruption..."

Veeps generally do very little by way of administration of government affairs. They make no laws (Congress's job). He's basically there to take over as pres, and to break a tie in the Senate, if needed.
it's_Chet | 6:11 p.m. Aug. 15, 2008
It's actually quite comforting to see this, as a Romney supporter. He obviously is both seriously likely to be chosen as the VP candidate, and also seems to have the democrats running scared.

Think about it. McCain hasn't even picked his VP candidate yet, and the mere possibility that it could be Romney has the dems launching a full scale pre-emptive assault on him.

There's only one reason for the urgency and vitriol of the dems' attacks on Romney, and that's fear.
Lutz Brehmer | 6:20 p.m. Aug. 15, 2008
If Mitt Romney wants to sell me anything, I trust
the man to buy it.
If Obama Hussein wants to sell me anything, I know
it's snake oil and he can keep it.
Aaron | 6:21 p.m. Aug. 15, 2008
Hasn't Obama flip flopped on every issue there is in the last 2 months?
Anonymous | 6:27 p.m. Aug. 15, 2008
"Anonymous | 2:39 p.m. Aug. 14, 2008 - "Democrats mount attack on Romney." What a crock of [bleep]!
Believe me, the Democratic party is losing no sleep whatsoever over Mitt Romney and what he does or doesn't do."

OK hotshot, so why then are the Dems attacking him specifically?

Yeah, I thought so...
Richie Harris | 6:33 p.m. Aug. 15, 2008
With all due respect to Senator McCain, I believe the party missed the boat by failing to nominate Gov. Romney for President. I have watched his career from his days shepherding the Olympics in Salt Lake. His achievements involving health care in Mass. were impressive. He has a strong understanding and talent for commerce and economy and I think would be looked upon as a strong leader by nations around the globe. I am hopeful that he will be asked to join the ticket as V.P. this time and will then run again for the Presidential nomination.

"John McCain hates mormons, he won't pick Romney. Doesn't anyone remember his mother's comments about Romney, Mormons and the Olypics? McCain was sitting right next to her smiling......"

You're joking, right?

Because if you're not joking you're suffering from an extremely acute case of selective memory.

Go look at the interview in which McCain's mother said she was suspicious of Mormons, etc and you will see that John McCain IMMEDIATELY (and I mean it was LITERALLY less than 2 seconds) interjected that his mother's opinions were not necessarily his own. His mother insulted a rather large block of mountain west Republicans and he distanced himself from her comments faster than a liberal would run out of Rush Limbaugh's studio!

How in the heck can you liberals ignore such realities or sleep at night?
Anonymous | 6:48 p.m. Aug. 15, 2008
This is why Democrats loose elections. Why not hold your fire until Romney is actually selected VP? Is it a good idea to telegraph your attack strategy before the guy is even selected? Seems very premature too me.
joe alexich | 6:52 p.m. Aug. 15, 2008
the dems sure are trying to sell to the people that getting rid of dead weight on the payroll is bad for country.

"can't relate to the mega-rich | 4:45 p.m. Aug. 14, 2008
It is my observation that mega-wealthy people like Mitt Romney live in their own little worlds.
It is unfortunate that our conservative friends put the wealthy on some sort of pedestal automatically never questioning how they obtain their wealth, etc.

Personally, I believe America is ripe for someone from a lower caste background they can relate to."

And you really think Obama is that man? He's from a "lower caste background"? No, he doesn't have as much wealth as Romney, but he's worth well over a million and so he isn't the "comman man" Savior your hoping for either.

Re: MassMan, 2:35 PM | 7:08 p.m. Aug. 15, 2008
MassMan said: "He screwed us in Massachusetts by not running for re-election which paved the way for a Cliton toady named Deval Patrick, who, along with the Mass legislature, has stuck it to the people in the Commonwealth with higher taxes across the board."

Did you ever think that maybe Mitt decided to run because he believed that he could better serve our nation as President than just 1 of 50 states as Governor?

Your logic of "Mitt did better than the guy who replaced him therefore I hate Mitt" is selfish and therefore idiotic.

You also said "He ran one of the worst presidential campaigns in history and he's being considered for VP?"

Worst campaign in history? Yet he made it to the GOP's final 4, outlasting such notables and heavyweights like Rudy Guliani, and you deem his campaign "one of the worst in history".

Brilliant.

If you want to be taking seriously on these boards, start using maturity and reality as your foundations.

Wow... Ted Kennedy, Barney Frank... Where's John Conyers to round out that group of winners? Sounds like Romney might be a great choice.
Anonymous | 7:11 p.m. Aug. 15, 2008
Barney Frank is in no position to talk about others.
Craig | 7:15 p.m. Aug. 15, 2008
Folks should do a little research...

Romney is the guy who bought your company and sent the jobs overseas...no joke! Please look up Bain capital (his company)....BIG STUFF.

He even tried to partner with the chinese to buy out maytag! Guess where those jobs were going?

His health care revolution here in Ma (I live here) pays FULL health insurance for folks who own 1/2 million dollar houses and multiple cars (no means test!).....and is already going broke! But it does give money to health care and drug companies that HIS COMPANY owns!

It really amazes me that folks vote for a corporation dressed up as a human......this guy stands for NOTHING except enriching himself by destroying YOU.

Lee | 12:40 p.m.:

"Get lost Obama, Dean, Clinton, and the entire lot of ya! You are useless! You contribute nothing to our great nation, freedom, democracy, or life! Hit the road!"

Not true, Lee. Their sleazy conduct serves as a bad example of what we don't want for leaders in this country.
Richard Baugh | 7:24 p.m. Aug. 15, 2008
Go Romney!
BCC | 7:41 p.m. Aug. 15, 2008
Who cares what Barney Frank says! We need to clean out Congress and get rid of those that are ready and willing to turn over our sovereignty to the UN, and the global world!!
As for Romney, yeah, I'll go for him, or even Duncan Hunter, or Jeff Sessions.
flkstock | 7:49 p.m. Aug. 15, 2008
looks like the dems are nervous... i know that mitt was presidential material...and he would make a wonderful president... he is above all the other candidates...he has the brains and the class...mitt would be a easy shoe in for mc cain... go mitt...
Bob | 7:52 p.m. Aug. 15, 2008
What a disgraceful piece of 'journalism'. Not a single effort made to offer Romney a rebuttal and the story itself amounts to a repackaged DNC press release.

Also, it's interesting that when Romney shifts positions it's 'intellectual dishonesty.' When Bill Clinton does it, it's 'triangulation'.
rob | 7:56 p.m. Aug. 15, 2008
classic case of calling the other side guilty of what you are guity of to offset the attack from other side. They know Kerry is flopper galore so they are initiating this preemptive strike at Romney....marxism 101 ...the Clintons did this at least once a week.
Massachusetts Republican | 7:56 p.m. Aug. 15, 2008
I am a Massachusetts Republican who has witnessed, first hand, Mr. Romney as a politician. He is not a bad man, but, he surrounds himself and depends far too heavily on Mormons and Harvard grads for guidance and policy implementation. The result has consistently been, too smart by half; his solutions were always oriented to primarily "look" effective. His claim to have balanced the budget without raising taxes is a complete misrepresentation. He raised nearly every fee imaginable on the backs of: small businesses, gun owners, and trades; and then used "flexible" accounting to handle the difference. He is very slick and aware of how to hide blemishes. In order to pass an oppressive universal healthcare program (to sell as a success on his national stage) he sold out to the homosexual lobby and democratically controlled legislature, to institute gay marriage as the trade-off. It is unfortunately true that public service takes a way-back seat to his political gain; watch out.
DL Rupper | 8:17 p.m. Aug. 15, 2008
Rommney's my man. The Dem's are scared to death that he will be the VP pick. They won't have time to attack Rommney much longer. They will be so busy trying to stop everyone from reading Dr. Jerrome Corsi's book and finding out about the real Obama.
Wallyworld | 8:25 p.m. Aug. 15, 2008
Geewhiz:

Can anybody change their mind on anything these days? Will Mitt be a "flip-flopper" if one day he decides he does not like to eat PB&J anymore and chooses only to eat PB????
Rainy!!!! | 8:26 p.m. Aug. 15, 2008
Wow, this is quite the thread y'all go going on here! Mitt is the man and I really hope McCain picks him. He is so awesome. His dad really did march with MLK you know. They have written about it, but could get very little media attention. The demanded a media (and others) apology for Mitt and his dad, but of course they never got one.

One of the women said she was in the beauty shop and looked out and they were coming down the road marching. She went outside and there was then Governor Romney and MLK holding hands. She said alot of people went and joined in and they marched along. I thought it sounded pretty cool. People still keep wanting to make Mitt out as a liar though for some reason.
c. moore | 8:30 p.m. Aug. 15, 2008
i guess my first comment was deemed inappropriate!

oh well, suffice it to say, this gay man is a ROMNEY fan (WOW!!!! someone who has actually DONE something!!!! amazing!!!!), and think barney f. is unworthy of even appearing in the same paragraph.

this go around, i guess i'll vote for the democrat -- mccain -- if he'll at least make the right pick for v.p.

surely, the thought of the marxist party winning seems unappealling, but someone other than romney, hutchison or palin as running mate, and i'll vote bob barr . . . in protest.
MIike A | 8:44 p.m. Aug. 15, 2008
Talk about hipocracy! Who has flip-flopped more then Obama?
Tacnav | 8:50 p.m. Aug. 15, 2008
For the Dems to call anyone a flipper on issues or to even to have the nerve to say that Mitt was willing to say what ever it takes to get elected is like the pot calling the kettle black.

The difference between Mitt and Obama is that we know he is a successful business man and has a voting record that is public record.

You show me a person who refuses to look objectively at important issues, weight the facts and make an intelligent decision based on those facts and I will show you a Democrate!!

Mitt has forgot more about the economy than Obama could ever began to know. He's the perfect balancing act to McCain.

God Bless America!!!!!!!!!!!

the Demos fear Romney...end of story.
Alex Goldman | 8:58 p.m. Aug. 15, 2008
Hey Barney Frank:
No one has flip flopped more than Obama on issues. I have no idea where he really stands on anything now...one position for the Democratic Primary and another position for the General election.
Romney has actually done something!! What has Obama done?? Still waiting for him to fill in the details.
TNEDDY | 9:02 p.m. Aug. 15, 2008
With these liberal idiots opposing him he has to be ther right choice.
John | 9:01 p.m. Aug. 15, 2008
It is quite clear why he is being attacked. Remember Ronald Reagan being attacked the same way before and after he lost the nomination to Ford when he first ran for president? Same stuff all over again. They know that Romney is already a contender for 2012 and they want to squash him now. It won't work but they will try. The Democrat party has become the new Communist party. They MUST be stopped.
to Stephanie | 9:11 p.m. Aug. 15, 2008
You're uninformed if you believe the best and brightest, the most competent and moral of any political party ever run for office. The people who would make the best leaders for our nation are engaged in good works that benefit their communities and the peoples of the world.

I don't judge you by the candidates running for office from your party, I would consider that highly rude of me.
