Romney: he agrees with YOU | 11:56 p.m. Aug. 16, 2008
"...A normal person changes their opinion or stance when the facts change. I support Mitt even more because he ran for Commander in Chief, not Pastor in Chief. You all need to get over yourselves. Romeny will make a wonderful VP and President...."

How did the 'facts change' concerning abortion? Or the homosexual agenda? Did someone whisper into his ear and tell him what those big words actually meant? You've got to be kidding me. Romney would be a better veep for hillary or obama than he would McCain. McCain has actually given something to this nation. Please, don't tell me about the legendary "savior of the Olympics"; nobody but Romney sycophants care about that...it has nothing to do with leading the nation.
just being honest | 12:02 a.m. Aug. 17, 2008
I want McCain to win/Obama to lose; that's why I want Romney and his ilk to stay far, far away from McCain. Romney has no future as POTUS, or even veep...people don't see him as 'honest', he comes across like a snake-oil salesman. You remember, don't you? All of the stories he was caught in? Life-long hunter? Etc?

Nobody even cares if he was a life-long hunter; they care that he lied, and they care about WHY he lied.

Hey! Let's trot out a bunch of Democrats to trash on a Republican and call it credible news! Lol!! This is laughable!
Anonymous | 3:48 a.m. Aug. 17, 2008
Mitt's company has the best track record of almost any company in the United States. The internal rae of return for the company is over 100%. Jim Cramer on the "Mad Money" show loves him and his record for economic smarts. He says that Romney is the only one that will even understand what it would take to turn the economy around. If only to fix the mess we are in it makes the most sense to have someone there who has experience and knows anything about what is going on. Come one guys!!! Neither party has anyone even close to him!

We need some one who can fix our mess. Hilary, Obama, or even McCain have no clue. All are real politicians!! We are in a mess. May God Bless America!!
hypocrisy | 4:03 a.m. Aug. 17, 2008
"We need to actually make sure we're informing the public. Look at this guy's track record. Look what he's actually done, not what he says..."

Are the dems serious? The same line can apply for Obama! The media is practically bed buddies with the man. We still don't know enough about him.
lou | 4:31 a.m. Aug. 17, 2008
Rule #1 if a lib attacks without "need" and the media follows. as a conservative vote the other way.
Nostrajohnus | 4:53 a.m. Aug. 17, 2008
Obama's sinking poll numbers will trigger the greatest political deal of all time...the Obama/Clinton(s) ticket in Denver. The driveby media will swoon, McCain will wonder how he got into a five-card monte game with
three of the slickest politicians of the last 100 years
and Romney, if he gets the veep slot, will be standing in the road wondering how he got run over twice in the same year.
Barny | 5:25 a.m. Aug. 17, 2008
Yeah, Democrats complaining about someone means they're decent and respectful and American.
Republican | 5:28 a.m. Aug. 17, 2008
If you watched the debates last night between McCain and Nobama conducted by Mr. Warren then you would see and understand why McCain is the best man for the job as President.McCain is a true Maverick with wisdom, knowledge and understanding of how to protect a country HE LOVES! He needs to tell more about his loyalty and sacrifices as a faithful soldier when he was prisoner in Viet Nam. He is truly a hard working, faithful citizen that has never looked for a handout for freedom but was willing to die for Americans to enjoy what we so often take for granted which is the greatest nation on Earth..AMERICA!!!!!!! Nobama can't tie the boots of McCain!!!!!!!!
Robert | 5:41 a.m. Aug. 17, 2008
Romney will be a excellent pick that will further draw a contrast with the Dems. Romney is a straight shooter like McCain, no generalities, no jive, and no bull. The Dems can say what they want about Romney, but you will hear no jive from him or McCain.
crossover | 6:06 a.m. Aug. 17, 2008
I love watching the Democrats shoot themselves in the feet.
Obama was ahead in the polls by 9 points.
The liberal democrats knew they would win and started demanding tax increases and no drilling for American off shore oil.
Obama then went DOWN in the polls like a rock dropped into an oil well.
(I say, "attack Romney all they can.")
It just goes to show what democrat liberals will do, and for letting us independents slip through their fingers out chasing a leader that hasn't even been picked yet.
I cant wait until they snub Hillary at the convention!

I was a Democrat, be the Democrats are now Socialists and the Republicans are not quite Democrats yet so I don't know where I belong. I just know I don't belong to the Democrat (i.e. New Socialist) Party anymore.
Wallyworld | 6:28 a.m. Aug. 17, 2008
I think American politics are hilarious, and all you zoombied Repubs and Dems contribute the most to making it so amusing!
Eric | 6:30 a.m. Aug. 17, 2008
Have had lived in Mass. I know the politicians that Romney had to deal with. Almost 100% democrat state house, Romney had roadblock after roadblock against him to turn Mass. government back to the people. Such corruption and participian politics it was no wonder he quit to continue where he could do some good. Checkout Barney Frank's record. He no angel. If Romney is selected as V.P., John Mc Cain has my vote. I'm a democrat now in Conn.
GRB | 6:41 a.m. Aug. 17, 2008
The reason we have the current candidates is because of the media's love for the dems and the hate for the republicans. I do not like McCain because of his past but at least I know that he can be shown the light by his party's followers and the people around him. Put Romney on the ticket and McCain will have a moral compass to keep him straight. Obama has no core values and will tax us to death. He says he is a member of the world and that is what he wants us all to be. We will be paying world taxes to the UN if he gets elected. Blame everything on Bush if you want but the economy was doing great until the dems took over both houses. Wake up America. McCain/Romney 2008!!
Eddie | 9:16 a.m. Aug. 17, 2008
McCain/Romney looks good to me. McCain standing alone looks fair. Obama alone or with any Democrat looks real bad. Why not have "done nothing" Obama running with "done nothing" Polosie? That would send the Dems into a tailspin.

Fear not the intelect of others. Your own may come to haunt you.
Run Mitt, away from Big Mac | 10:27 a.m. Aug. 17, 2008
Mitt, right now your in a lose lose situation. When in doubt punt! You'll be a stronger man for just walking away. Do not settle for the crumbs
KWT | 10:43 a.m. Aug. 17, 2008
I think Romney would be a great fit for VP. I'm not a real big fan of McCain, but when you look at McCain, compared to Obama, the experience is no contest. What I want to now see happen is Romney the VP canditate. I see McCain handling defense, and Romney handling the economy. Both are strong in those areas. Look at what Romney has done in the Olympics, the State of Mass, and his own business. Can anyone doubt his ability. If Obama is president the world is going to walk all over us. Can you imagine the moral of the military with a commander and chief like Obama? Come on America. WAKE UP!
Diehard | 11:13 a.m. Aug. 17, 2008
If Mitt Romney were elected vice president and then became president, who would run the country on Sunday, Nancy Pelosi?
DL Rupper -- RVing USA | 11:30 a.m. Aug. 17, 2008
To all of you that think sitting this election out will punish McCaine for not picking Romney, had better think about HOW many Supreme Court picks will be coming up in the next 4 years. To cut off your nose despite your face is not very smart. I want Romney as VP, but I have also thought out what Obama will do to the country. I love my country too much to sit this one out like a spoiled kid.
Capt. Smash | 11:58 a.m. Aug. 17, 2008
For Daschle, Iraq represents an opportunity cost to this conflict, which is on some level true, but it's not like sending troops to Georgia was ever in the cards. He goes on the assert that Obama had a specific plan of heading this off, involving NATO, but I'm just not sure that's true. He's right that we've failed to be attentive to Russia.

Ugh, Romney. Here's the way he thinks. He's asked if the Georgians maybe made this bed for themselves by hustling troops into South Ossetya, and Romney says, "Well, if you mean did Georgia bring this on themselves by standing up for freedom and democracy." There is no matter so important or complicated that Romney can't reduce to a dumb bumper sticker. SUCH IS THE POWER OF HIS STUPIDITY.

GS asks again, and Romney notes that Russia's parlay has "been anticipated for some time." This means, to Romney, that "Bill Clinton should have listened to John McCain!" And the eight intervening years? Of Bush's Ouija Board approach to Putin? Not mentioned!

Marilyn Mckinnon Rupper--RVing U | 11:58 a.m. Aug. 17, 2008
I've never been a fan of John McCain, but come on people! Take the blinker's off, get on the elephant, and cowboy up. McCain is the ONLY sane choice!

Who is more of a flip flopper than Obama?
Ted | 12:15 p.m. Aug. 17, 2008
I don`t think Romney has a chance being nomonated for Vice President. You wait and see.

Why won't the DN write an article entitled "Mormons launch an Attack on Demos."
Mad as He-double tooth picks | 1:46 p.m. Aug. 17, 2008
I don't want Mitt Romney to be VP simply because I am so sick and tired of everyone bashing his flip floping and his religion and his politics. give him a break, I change my mind about 30-40 times a day sometimes even more. I am of his religion and am tired of the bashing because I believe in God and Jesus Christ alittle differently than someone alse does. I haven't killed someone yet nor have I slept with my neighbor's wife. I believe that a person has the Right to choose for him self what his internal beliefs should be but he doesn't have the right to force it on me by legislation (govenment). I understand why he says that a person has a right to an abortion even though he personally believe's it to be wrong. that is between you and your God not me, you and the Government. He has alot of money, so what, so does Bill Gate and Warren Buffet and you can bet that they laid off people along the way to riches, just look in Oregan if you don't believe me. get off Mitts case and mine too.
jagan | 2:01 p.m. Aug. 17, 2008
Piss on the USA. It doesn't matter who wins the white house. Unless we secure the borders and punish the illegals and sympathizers;we are all going to be eating tamales and selling tangerinas along side the freeway. Piss on the IRS. Why should I as an american pay taxes so that illegals can be given in state tuition? Why should I have to pay more property taxes to send an illegals child to an american school. To hell with the USA.
Fair's Fair | 2:03 p.m. Aug. 17, 2008
WOW!!! The DN must have some new, untrained censers. Or maybe they didn't recognize the sarcasm, and the implied criticism of "The Utah Theocratic Majority," and the humor I was enjoying at their expense.

This one, though, will certainly go by the way-side...

I got a kick out of the DNC website. It provides an opportunity to join their "Rapid Response Team", to get the word out on the evils of the Republican party. Once you put in your email address and name, it takes you to the next page where you get to donate money to become a DNC rapid responder. What a deal! Not only can you help spread venom, but you can pay for the privilege! Man, I am sick of party politics.
arc | 4:11 p.m. Aug. 17, 2008
Wow. Now we know why people were to have compassion for other people.

While I agree with Jason Chaffetz that legal immigration needs to be fixed, and those coming here illegally should not have an advantage over those following the laws, why should Mitt or anyone else attract these wackos.

I am amazed that the News hasn't picked up on the SL Tribune story about Bennion Spencer's books and that the savior would theoretically vote for Bennion. Even KSL picked up on that one.

People shouldn't hate, no matter the religion or race.

I hope Mitt is picked as VP, and that Jason Chaffetz gets 90% of the votes in the 3rd district.
azHawaiian | 8:41 p.m. Aug. 17, 2008
The dem's attack on Romney amounts to a four-letter word:

FEAR
Mitt for VP | 9:05 p.m. Aug. 17, 2008
Mitt would make a great running mate for McCain. His strengths would resonate with the American public. Bringing Massachusetts from a huge deficit of about $8 billion to a surplus four years later, with a veto proof Democrat legislature. Taking an Olympic organization in danger of failing and turning it into a success in every way. His experience creating jobs in the private sector. No wonder Democrats are criticizing him. They can see a highly qualified VP, just like we can.
Ernest T. Bass | 9:30 p.m. Aug. 17, 2008
Romney would be horrible for America. The republicans are nothing like they were in the 60s. They've been hi-jacked by the religious nutcakes.
Humbug | 9:48 p.m. Aug. 17, 2008
Ernest t. I can always count on you to give me a little chuckle when I am done being stunned at your overt bitterness.
anonymous | 11:31 p.m. Aug. 17, 2008
The democrats have been running Washington and look what they've accomplished - nothing. Nancy Pulosi won't even let the Republicans bring anything up for a vote. Sounds like China or Russia or Iran to me. And Barack wants change - change what? He's gotten his way, and is the most liberal spender in WO. What a record - and he's promised to raise our taxes = not the way to grow the economy.
People forget the President isn't the one who writes the laws - guess who does - the liberal democrats and some lop-sided republicans.
It's too bad the country has to trash everybody, even decent folks who have integrity and occasionally "change" their opinions, and actually tell WHY they change their positions. What's wrong with that????? Then we have the liberals who change their opinions based on who they are talking to, or what the latest polls show.

"...Romney is a straight shooter like McCain, no generalities, no jive, and no bull. The Dems can say what they want about Romney, but you will hear no jive from him or McCain...."

hahahahahaha! Thanks man, that was priceless! Romney a straight shooter! I can't breathe! hahahahaha

I don't understand all the Mormon bashing on here. Some of you need to get rid of your hatred and get a life.
Anonymous | 6:10 a.m. Aug. 18, 2008
My dear state is so decadent in their thinking. Come on people, McCain is crook. I am not saying Obama isn't, because he is, but McCain is just a plain terrible Neo-Con. Has anyone asked how did Mitt Romney make all that money? Please, before you try to sell Romney as a good LDS fella, look over his business record with Bain capital and all of his shady blocker companies, with which managed to conduct humoungous off-shore tax evasion, which is not illegal necessarily, but it is just immoral. Him being on the presidency would be about the worst thing that could happen to the LDS church's reputation since the Mountain Meadows Massacre. Utah wake up!
CharlesFromMA | 6:29 a.m. Aug. 18, 2008
I do not understand how it is that the Democrats are able to bash Romney's term as governor and completely overlook the fact that the Massachusetts state legislature during that time was EIGHTY-THREE PERCENT DEMOCRAT, as it has been more or less for the last half century. It is a near miracle that the man got anything done. Oh by the way, now that he's gone, we're back to the MULTI-BILLION dollar defecits that we had before, thank you all very much.
Anonymous | 6:55 a.m. Aug. 18, 2008
500+ comments! really? do you people realize this is only a story in Utah? nobody outside Utah is even paying attention to this story.
uh what??? | 8:47 a.m. Aug. 18, 2008
To Anonymous @6:55 am

Then how do you explain the large amount of non utah comments? Oh, you probably didn't realize this story turned up on the drudge report and in a bunch of other outlets... you really need to open your vista a tad... (that is id you are the same anonymous that is always on here saying either completely rude or totally non sensical things!)
consider the source | 9:36 a.m. Aug. 18, 2008
Take a look at those who critisize Romney - Barney Frank (gay senator who is fearful of anyone supporting the gay marriage ammendment). As far as flip flopping - WHO CARES???? All politicians flip flop and what really matters is what the candidate's plan is for important things like the economy and the war.
DL Rupper--RVing USA | 9:39 a.m. Aug. 18, 2008
Obama typically use the term "change" to mean the meaning is obious to all who share the ideology. The ideology comes from Saul Alinsky's radical socialism and means redistribution of wealth. Oh, boy.
MA Singer | 10:18 a.m. Aug. 18, 2008
And now for the rest of the story:

In Boston Herald article, Barney Frank says "Mitt Romney lacks moral scruples". Talk about the pot calling the kettle black! And no, that's not racist!
WHO CARES | 11:21 a.m. Aug. 18, 2008
Why is there even an argument here. Romney has nothing to do with the political future of America. He will never get further then possible senate from his current home state. He would never be able to put together any kind of base from any of the religious right, the left or the center. =)

The Communist Party of America is the Communist Party of America.

Typical Utah mindset getting their talking points from Rush O'Hannity. Kinda funny when you consider this coming from the state where there is a beehive on the state flag... animals most associated for their collectivist mindset.
