If you are ticking off the liberals you are doing a good job.

Mitt Romney is the MAN.
Anonymous | 3:01 p.m. Aug. 16, 2008
As a gay Massachusetts resident, Rep. Barney Frank has a personal reason to express concern about former Gov. Romney's credibility and integrity.

In 1994, when Romney ran a failed campaign for Ted Kennedy's Senate seat, Romney sent a letter to Log Cabin Republicans asking for their support. He stated that he would be a stronger advocate for gay rights than Senator Edward M. Kennedy. Adding We must make equality for gays and lesbians a mainstream concern.

In 2002, Romney ran for governor of Massachusetts as a liberal Republican. However, acting as Governor, Romney supported a divisive, failed Constitutional Amendment to repeal the rights of same-sex couples to marry. Romney also invoked an archaic Jim Crow era law to prevent couples from out of state from marrying in the Commonwealth, which has since been repealed.

Betraying the civil rights of a class of citizens for political gain has its price. Who will Mitt Romney betray next?

The Democrats are attacking Mitt because they are very weak. Barry is not way out front like they think he should be, he has a load of unclaimed baggage that would fill an 18 wheeler, Hillary could very well take the whole thing away from him at their convention, and Pelosi and Reid are committing suicide by oil. The people are watching this circus and will vote Republican in November!
I don't think so | 3:35 p.m. Aug. 16, 2008
To anonymous @3:01 PM:

You just made my day for some odd reason. I think Mitt tried to help the gay community get those same rights that all citizens are due under the constitution, but did NOT want them to have marriage rights, which they should NOT have!

Mitt does not break my heart, he only gives it hope

tdrag: great pontification there. The "suicide by oil line is great"!!! The dems are imploding I think. Then again, so are some of the republicans. Some of the so called Christian conservatives could destroy more than they heal if they are not careful. They are kind of nutty. Some dems and some CCs remind me of very spoiled kids this week. "If you don't play ball my way, I shall beat you up with the bat.. and the glove... and the bases... and the body armour... and, and and....
Marge | 3:45 p.m. Aug. 16, 2008
If the Dems are attacking him BEFORE he is even a candidate, they must conceive of him as a threat.....and it shows. What decent American would care what Barney Frank days?
LarryA | 3:47 p.m. Aug. 16, 2008
Such comments are so ridiculous that I can't imagine how they can be deemed newsworthy. The press seems to be fanning the flames of contention and ignoring more substantive issues. Like the facts.. The parties make charges without consequences. Obama is raking in huge amounts of cash from other countries whose interests are suspicious. Where's the coverage?
Call your opponent evil through surrogates so you can keep your image clean, and the press goes right along. Accuse him of being what you are. Distort, spin. No wonder so many are cynical today. Winning at all costs is destroying our political system.

huckabee is a slime ball and only made it as far as he did because of the fair tax . . . . and because of that, i will never listen to neal boortz again . . . though it's hard to stomach glenn beck. anyway, if he chooses huckabee, that's as bad as choosing lieberman in my book, and i'll vote bob barr!
It is deserved | 4:05 p.m. Aug. 16, 2008
I like many things about Mitt Romney, I would have voted Republican if he were the nominee, but most of the criticism is actually valid. He has flip flopped positions in order to get elected. He is probably even worse than most politicians. Having said that, I know he had to act liberal in Massechusetts to get elected. It worked.
RC | 4:19 p.m. Aug. 16, 2008
McCain/Romney thats the ticket! Romney helps win Michigan, Ohio, Colorado, and McCain is the next President. He brings more support and fundraising to the table than any of the others mentioned. In order to win McCain needs Romney period! GO MITT!!!!!!!!!!!
c. moore | 4:29 p.m. Aug. 16, 2008
Anonymous from Mass - I'm gay, too. BUT, not all of us run around whining about being victims. But surely those who do are like-minded to you: Democrats!
Paul | 4:35 p.m. Aug. 16, 2008
I am a Republican and I don't want Romney as VP. Dems are right about his flip flops. Look at his record. Terrible on the 2nd amendment and has flipped flopped on abortion and gay marriage. McCain needs to pick a real conservative to be his VP running mate.
Oldsock | 4:45 p.m. Aug. 16, 2008
Wait till the fundmentalists get a load of Romney and the LSD"S position that the bible is not complete inerrant and unchangable...If they fall for his line, then it will be clear the televangelists are far more worried about a federal IRS audit than their dogma...
Chance | 4:49 p.m. Aug. 16, 2008
Obviously the Dems fear Romney. This is what they do. The Repub's will attack the most liberal of the Dems when they feel threatened and the Dems will do the same when a good hearted, honest, God fearing person threatens them.
Chance | 4:55 p.m. Aug. 16, 2008
Romney doesn't have to flip flop. His position can change if needed because he does it smartly. Against Ted Kennedy, he was seemingly "pro-abortion." However, he was not really. He just said he would protect the laws on the books and that is what he did. it was a perfectly honest thing to do...you know, protect the law. When he stated that he was going to be standing up for gay rights, he did, and he had every right because, again, it was the law, and he had no problem protecting the law. When that law became invalid or overturned, you see Mitt Romney begin to run in a direction he actually agrees with and goes for it like crazy. He is not a flip-flopper (I hate that phrase...way over used and too political.) he just takes advantage of the moment by stating the truth that he will be an advocate for them as long as the law is on the books. He is a profoundly sharp and intelligent man with a good grip on what is right. The dems fear him more than any other politician. I guarantee it...because he outsmarts them all.

I must amplify what a very savvy commenter said. Romney is the LAST of the eight potential Republican VP choices to be added to the Cheney II website. The 'attack' was limited to a few pols from states Romney has ties to. Yes, I know the reporter trumpeted this as a gargantuan assault on Romney, but the facts do not support that viewpoint. He is being getting about the same treatment as other GOP vice presidential wannabes. Considering his thin record, the young Right Wing zealot from Louisiana is the most vulnerable to attack of the octad.

As for Romney's coat tails, in these trying times, I suspect that the only states where he would add voters are Utah and Arizona, which McCain already has favored son status in.
The Oracle | 5:01 p.m. Aug. 16, 2008
Obviously the RATs fear Romney. This is the best reason for him to be selected as the candidate for VP....religious bigots among Republicans and RATs notwithstanding.
Oradell Brower Triplett | 5:17 p.m. Aug. 16, 2008
I remember there was a time when respect was the proper thing to do. If you can't say something nice about someone, you should say nothing.
Mitt Romney is the one person who would be the best person for Vice President.
Joann | 5:20 p.m. Aug. 16, 2008
Any time someone tries to live a good righteous life, the adversary works hard to discredit him. That is the way it is with Mitt Romney, he wants to do what is right and follow the constitution, as given to us from our founding fathers. He is what this country needs and a lot of conservatives want.
Brett | 5:28 p.m. Aug. 16, 2008
I would say the Democrates are afraid of Mit.
Ken | 5:27 p.m. Aug. 16, 2008
Huckster just does not want to give Mitt a leg up on the next election.
The primaries show many evangelicals voted for Mitt.
I think most of the Democrats are religious bigots.
They also ignore their own behavior and then criticize a republican for the same perceived actions?

WE WANT MITT! WE WANT MITT! WE WANT MITT!
Alma | 5:30 p.m. Aug. 16, 2008
Mitt would be a tremendous asset to McCain. His ability is lengendary as an executive both in gorernment and business. He brings ingtegrity, intelligence, and vigor. He is talented and would benefit the Republicans.

Bob | 5:31 p.m. Aug. 16, 2008
If you're a Republican and attack someone on issues, you're an intolerant bigot. If you're a Dem. and attack someone personally, you just exercising you're first amendment rights.
Anti-PC Infidel | 5:36 p.m. Aug. 16, 2008
>I have never seen anyone so completely without any commitment to any particular principle and so willing to say whatever he thinks will help him win the next election

Apparently he's never met any other Democrat. Or himself...
Jack | 5:43 p.m. Aug. 16, 2008
Some attacks on Romney from the right are nothing more than veiled and bigoted anti-Mormon feelings. Let's call it the way it is.
Anonymous | 6:12 p.m. Aug. 16, 2008
Dean
Romney is our best chance of having someone as Vice President with good business sense and knows what it takes to manage the current runaway bureaucracy we have in Washington.
Jack | 6:17 p.m. Aug. 16, 2008
He is our only hope to help McCain win the president. You all better get behind him.He should have been our canidate if that Huckabery spoiled that. .Look what all those democrats have done to this country. They are the biggest waste of politicians we have ever had. Clinton just about ruined us with his attention stayed from the Presidency, then the replubicans have to suffer for 8 years because of this. Bush is trying to make it safe that it never happens again, but they have done everything to stop him. Look we have not had an attack since. Obama would not know how to react if a crisis happened. He is just a kide
We better all get together to make this country
prosper and keep our forefathers from rolling over in their graves. Rommeny all the way or we lose....
Dan | 6:19 p.m. Aug. 16, 2008
I used to be a Democrat. I am so glad I woke up to their Fascist, Communist and Marxist ways. It really is the "pan-handling, welfare, I want a free ride and the government to take care of me party". Pathetic. Well, at least I woke up, albeit a few years late. As the saying goes "If you aren't a liberal in your 20's you have no heart, if you are still one by 30 you have no brain". No truer words have ever been spoken!
Louise Paquette | 6:44 p.m. Aug. 16, 2008
The DNC biggest fear is that McCain will appoint a real conservative like Romney who would of won anyhow if Huckster would of left earlier. Romney's strenghts with economics would be an added bonus to McCain. Just looking at Obama's five minutes in the Senate, there is just no comparison. change for changes sake does not work, you need people with real experince in both government and actually working for a living such as Rommey would bring to the RNC ticket. The MSM lack of any crediblity on Obama's history of having ties with twenty years with a church that preached hate toward the US, his ties with mobsters, and terrorists would never cut it if he were a republican. MSM is in a sad state with their ever public love with Obama is sickening.
The AMerican public sees through this and will vote for McCain in high numbers when a true conservative such as Romeny is given the VP spot!
aaron in salt lake city | 6:48 p.m. Aug. 16, 2008
IF Democrats are truely communist then how is that the LDS church always redistributes the wealth of their members to those who dont have anything....just because communism was frowned upon in the past doesnt mean that republicans dont practice it from the pulpit....simply put quit calling the kettle black when u guys are the ones that replenish the paint to keep the kettle black.
Bruce | 7:20 p.m. Aug. 16, 2008
Excuse me, but why is Frank attacking Obama?

Oh ... he means Romney! I got confused when he said "without commitment to any ..." yada, yada, yada.

Never mind.
Hoosier Daddy | 7:31 p.m. Aug. 16, 2008
If Romney is on the ticket, and Hillary is not on the Dem ticket, then I might vote Republican for the second time in my life. On the other hand, if Hillary is on the Dem ticket and Romney is not on the GOP ticket, I will gladly stay with the good old Democrats.

For those old enough to remember, Republicans were a thorn in the side of the Mormons at the time they wanted statehood.
free4all | 7:50 p.m. Aug. 16, 2008
aaron in SLC: dems are socialist, not communist. if you're not socialist don't vote for Obama. that is why we are voting for him. it's time to end capitalist greed. the constitution calls for the general welfare of all citizens.
Bloody Mary | 7:53 p.m. Aug. 16, 2008
Well...being LDS, I'm not voting for ANYONE!
al | 7:55 p.m. Aug. 16, 2008
It would be nice to compare his record to Obama's, but Obama has none.
Vic | 7:58 p.m. Aug. 16, 2008
Don't care one whit about Huckabee. If the Dems are this committed to scaring us off Romney, then he's the best choice for McCain. McCain needs to impress me with his VP pick, and Romney would do that.

Go Mitt!
mtgmarc | 8:12 p.m. Aug. 16, 2008
with detractors like Barney Frank and this gaggle of sanctimonious hypocrits, I don't know much about Romney, but he MUST be worth voting for if this crew is against him !!!
Ryan Larsen | 8:25 p.m. Aug. 16, 2008
Anonymous @ 3:01,

Do you have the exact quote? You merely wrote that that Romney "stated" that he would be a stronger advocate for gay rights than Senator Edward M. Kennedy. As I understand it, Romney simply said that as a Republican he would be in a better position to "do" something about gay rights, not that his positions on gay rights were more gay-friendly than Kennedy.

Please provide the quote to back up your accusation. Thanks.

Mitt Romney is not a flip-flopper.
Mahonri | 8:42 p.m. Aug. 16, 2008
LDS here and you can't get me to vote for Romney for anything.
Karl | 8:59 p.m. Aug. 16, 2008
Democrats must think that no one pays any attention but to what they say. Lets look at Mitt the man as a whole.
I have. And as a whole, I find the dems have reason to be scared. There are more Mormons in government office then most know. The Dems don't have a problem with Harry Reid (Mormon) Evangelicals need to get off the anti-Mormon kick. Enough already.
Mitt would be an excellent VP to McCain in 08. McCain has plenty of sack, and Mitt is great on economics. Far better than an Illinois waffling junior senator and possibly a so called "swift boat purple heart thrice joke".
To Aaron in SLC | 9:16 p.m. Aug. 16, 2008
The funds used to provide for the needy come from voluntary offerings from church members. Communism is forced without freedom of choice.

Church members choose to donate because it is the right thing to do, not because the government (or anybody else) makes them. They "do unto others as they would have others do unto them".
Romney Friend | 9:49 p.m. Aug. 16, 2008
If the dems hate him, he must be a threat, go Romney!!!!
George | 10:09 p.m. Aug. 16, 2008
Yeah I am a life-long Republican but completely agree with the Democrats on Mitt Romney. He is a crook from Bain & Co. who flaunts himself as whatever his constituency wants in a politician.

He even had the gaul to compare himself to Ronald Reagan in the GOP primaries. He is nothing more than an opportunist.
Xinia de Murillo | 10:10 p.m. Aug. 16, 2008
Go ahead M. Romney. I am from Costa Rica
al | 10:44 p.m. Aug. 16, 2008
It is incomprehensible that a gutter rat like Barney Frank should be critical of a gentleman with the moral level and accomplishments of Romney.
seanmahair | 10:50 p.m. Aug. 16, 2008
Romneys religion should no more be an issue than Obamas, Clintons, Pelosi's or Kerry's lack of religion. The fact is that of all the available options Romney is one of the few on the list that has ANY experience in the private sector.

He has also managed to be the governor of one of the most liberal states in the nation. He truly understands the idea of a government by the people, for the people. That is what he was hired to do. He was not hired to be the states moral enforcer. People have to obey their personal moral compass, not be compelled to follow someone else's beliefs.

That's why people died in the Revolution, the Civil War, both World Wars, Korea, Vietnam, and the rest. So we could be free to choose whether to be stupid or not. It is our God given right. Mr Huckabee does not understand this, nor do his followers. He believes that people should be compelled to obey. That plan didn't work the first time Satan tried it. It won't work now.

As for those who KNOW what Mr. Romney believes, from their tone I know what they believe.

Educate_Yourself | 11:07 p.m. Aug. 16, 2008
Don't think for a second you aren't getting anything more with McCain than potentially an even worse president that George W. Bush. Nixon was a conniving dirt ball that we can thank for HMOs, but at least he was smart. McCain has mediocre intelligence at best and a very malicious, corrupt underbelly. At least with Obama you have someone who has only been a mainstream politician since 2004 and he won't owe nearly the favors that Bush did flying around in an Enron jet. Take a look at how much McCain has flip-flopped since 2000. He once said that evangelicals are "agents of intolerance". Now, he kisses their ass. Look up Mccain in relation to Keating 5 S&L scandal (largest in US history), lobbying money for Georgian oil pipeline, McCain-Feingold Act that opened up more campaign finance (instead of its claim otherwise) and the "a la carte" cable scandal he cooked up with his lobbying mistress. Greed (centered around oil) is killing this country. Wake up! At least with Obama there is a chance for something better. The moment debates were corrupted when Perot ran 3 party chance died (League of Women Voters lost control and rules were rigged).
Kathy | 11:30 p.m. Aug. 16, 2008
I am not a Morman, but was for Romney, and was so disapointed when he dropped out. I am now for McCain. No one in their right mind would want Obama. I pray Romney is chosen as McCain's Vice Pres, he is stong on the economy where McCain is weak we need him. If the dems are so much against Romney it is all that much more the reason I want McCain to pick Romney .... McCain/Romney 08 ... Yes !!!!!
Nik | 11:34 p.m. Aug. 16, 2008
Uh-oh, looks like the dems got ahold of some polling data. They are so obvious. They are afraid to fight this election based on energy/economics as their guy is totally inept on the topics. The rest of the dems are as well. Romney polls well among conservs and repubs and when mentioned in the same line as energy/economy/business, surprisingly well with democrats.
R. Price | 11:39 p.m. Aug. 16, 2008
I am a Democrat but I will vote for McCain if he selects Romney as his running mate. If anybody can save our nation it will be Romney.
