Conservative Democrats are Electable, Moderate and Liberal Democrats are FAR from the mark of the 60's and earlier Democrats! They are Lethal to America, they are Marxist BED BUDDIES!!!
Who loves politics? | 11:51 a.m. Aug. 14, 2008
I would listen to these critics except that the stench of hipocrisy is overwhelming and I have to leave the room....
The best comment is 'we have to look at what he has done and not what he has said.' Bravo, I agree 100% and if that is truly done, Romney outshines any of these critics. Romney needs some help on responding to the attacks of flip-flopping. He isn't nearly as bad as 99% of the congress and senate, but for some reason, he doesn't combat it well and therefore he is a prime target for such attacks.
I, for one, hope Romney isn't the VP pick, because McCain makes me sick with his politics and believe he'll the lose the presidency. Thus leaving a door open in four years for Romney to win the Republican nomination and defeat the incumbent Obama whose 4 years will have been a farce.
Lee | 11:54 a.m. Aug. 14, 2008
The Dems are fearfull of seeing two "blue" states turn "red".Mass. & Mich. However, I think McCain is going to choose Gov. Sarah Palin of Alaska.

Aren't elections fun? Since when does a flight to Utah count as a flip?

The day a gay, leftist Democrat says something nice about straight, rightist Republican Mitt will really be news.

Stinging, inconsistent attacks that lack any credibility because of their source. lol
Anonymous | 12:00 p.m. Aug. 14, 2008
I'm curious how Romney will explain:
"God hasn't spoken to man since Moses," when this clearly contradicts LDS dogma.
George | 12:08 p.m. Aug. 14, 2008
Nobody kicks a dead dog. You would think the dems would wait for a running mate to be selected before they blast everyone they can think of.
No surprise | 12:07 p.m. Aug. 14, 2008
Why would this come as any surprise to anybody? The democrats continue on their course of complain, distract, and oppose and then point fingers as to why problems persist. Where are their initiatives? Where are their proposals or solutions?

Gov. Romney has taken stands on positions while a candidate for president, therefore, he becomes a target for democrats because, 1) he is right and 2) he proposes actions and bring solutions to the table.

The American people will see this and understand. There is no wonder why the approval rating of the democrat lead congress is near single digits. As they continue to point fingers and continue to be obstacles and create problems, in order to get headlines, rather than bring solutions, they will continue to falter.

I Don't see where the DNC has any right to talk about anybody I Don't know why anyone would want to vote Democratic seeing as how since they took over 1 1/2 yrs ago we went down hill from Jan 07 to worst record in history of congress and still going down
Eddie Keen | 12:10 p.m. Aug. 14, 2008
I would love to see Romney on the ticket. The articles about him provided great fodder for columns and commentators here in the DesMitt News. In addition, he'd help deliver Utah for the repbulicans. Oh, wait. I see it's already been signed for.

Barney Frank bashing Romney actually helps Romneys cred

Flip floppers may be only right half the time - but ideologs are often wrong all the time
Brian | 12:19 p.m. Aug. 14, 2008
Wow, no surprise there, Democrats attacking potential Republican VP candidates before they're chosen, no surprise. I do hope that before folks comment on the spurious attacks that they at least watched a few of the many, many debates, then they may have some credence in their opinions. Yes, Mitt Romney changed some positions, but did so, not because of political polls, but out of reasoned, thoughtful experiences. By the way, I watched both parties debates to make a more intelligent choice in November. Barney Franks?? Go Mitt!!
Steven P | 12:17 p.m. Aug. 14, 2008
With an attack like that from the democRATS, I think Mccain just found his VP. He must be a great guy!
kc | 12:20 p.m. Aug. 14, 2008
I've always wanted Romney as McCain's running mate and believe that would be a very strong ticket that will win the election.

The way the DNC has now raised their game in their all-out ATTACK against Romney just confirms to me that I am "right on". Romney/McCain can win!! GO "MCCAIN/ROMNEY'08"! :)
Romney supporter | 12:18 p.m. Aug. 14, 2008
Wait did I just read that Obama supporters are accusing Romney of flip flopping? That is the fummiest thing I have ever read.
Ross | 12:19 p.m. Aug. 14, 2008
Not surprising but don't be confused. The Dem's are using their dark and hopeless frame of reference and really describe themselves probably more perfectly than anyone could possibly imagine. That is the true message in these attacks, we should say this is what the Dems are really like themselves. It's like they are looking in a mirror and describing what they see.
I wish I may... | 12:20 p.m. Aug. 14, 2008
Hear what people really say.
Understand for myself what they really mean.
Gather unbiased information freely.
Decide for myself who we really need.

This has been one of the most atrocious election years ever -- all we have been fed is sound bites and unsound opinions -- from all sides.

Oh how I long for the days when you could meet a candidate, look him in the eye, feel his grip, and know from personal experience if he was what he said he was.

YUP and what else you got? sounds like someone is nervous about Mitt. Here is the deal in michigan business is a disaster because unions (d) are demanding high salaries the interest in the stakeholders was making money Mitt worked for them. In public he works for the people and does a great job of that too. As for the flip flopping it is very simple as a politician you must represent the people who elect you. It's not the politicians values that matter it's his ability to plan and execute the plan.

Outside of what is illegal I don't care what politicians do as long as they stick to the plan I elected them for far too often our politicians think they get 4 years between acountability then the lies come out again I can't hardly stand it. At least Mitt is saying what he will do to represent me I like that it means he get's me enough said

Why ruin him now? Wait until he is the nominee and then ruin him then.

How are you going to attack a Man who is basically clean. No Affairs, No Thefts In Office. Known to be a great administrator. Great family man. There is far less to fear in Mitt being a Mormon then Obama being who he is, what ever that is. Anti Abortion (a lot of us over the years changed our minds on that issue. He has his draw back like anyone but they are so much less then Obama and who ever he chooses to run with him. It would be like evil attacking goodness. So many people seem to be putting aside there core values in order to embrace Obama, that I find it greatly disturbing. I live for the repeal of Roe v Wade. Protecting the Borders, and I do believe you can locate and deport every illegal alien in the United States. Its not an over night thing and the methods may not please everyone but it would solve the problem. Also to protect Americans from Sherrill Law, because of their Ethic background, or faith group that they where born into. Freedom both of Religion, and from Religion.
hmm | 12:34 p.m. Aug. 14, 2008
The left's attack on Romney is only an indication of his potential strength. I think they've been smoking too much of a certain herb.

I think it's funny that Barney Frank would take pot-shots at Romney. Frank says money losing businesses like Ford should be able to own banks with access to deposit insurance, but profitable enterprises like Home Depot should not. This is the same Barney Frank whose staffer was running a male prostitution ring out of Frank's DC condo.
MTM | 12:37 p.m. Aug. 14, 2008
The reason for the dem attack is based on McCains ability to win that is just further heightened by a McCain Romney ticket. Neither Obama nor Clinton built a race on facts but only on "change" that they think they can fulfil. Facts are facts. Obama doesn't bring anything to the table. He has no experience and has done nothing while in Congress. That is the change you'd get...someone who does nothing.
Free Agent | 12:38 p.m. Aug. 14, 2008
How repulsive is this? Democrats start attacking Republicans--some of whom are not serving in any active government position--simply on the grounds that they MIGHT be chosen for the VP spot. That's like tackling a football player on the sidelines because there's a chance the coach might put him in later in the game.
Typical Democrats | 12:42 p.m. Aug. 14, 2008
I think its funny democrats are criticizing Mitt Romney and saying all these things. When I think of Bill Clinton, I think of all the things they claim about Romney. I also think of Barack Obama. I also think of John Kerry, one of the biggest flip floppers there has ever been. I hope people are smart enough not to buy into their stupid retoric...
pete6982 | 12:42 p.m. Aug. 14, 2008
lol, these guys may be spouting lies about Mitty, but Mccain would be foolish to choose him. Tim Pawlentry is the best bet as he could help in the great lake states and is not widely hated. Plus the religous right likes him.
Mitt Romney's our next VEEP | 12:53 p.m. Aug. 14, 2008
Mitt Romney's chances of becoming John McCain's vice presidential running mate are strong enough and McCain and the GOP needs to pick him now. What I want to know is, how did Hans Christian Andersen know about Barack H. Obamacon more than a century ago? Because Obamacon is straight out of Andersen's classic fairly tale, The Emperor's New Clothes. Old Hans Christian, who lived in Denmark from 1805 to 1875, had Obama's number down pat. All he needed was a good grasp of human nature. Obamacon's millions of immature O'bots are utterly self-deluded, but then they're not mental heavyweights anyway. The O'bots have their eyes shut tight, because looking at the reality of their idol is just too scary. O'bots live in Hope and Hype, reality is not their strong suit. They just yearn to see His Imperial Majesty's royal crown, his purple robes, his golden sceptre, his bejeweled throne. But it's all self-hypnosis. Scratch the Obamacon thin veneer of hype for a second and it peels off before your very eyes. Mitt Romney's chances of becoming John McCain's vice presidential running mate are strong enough and he needs to be our next VP.

That's what the Democrats need....more visibility for Barney Frank....
Phoenix | 12:59 p.m. Aug. 14, 2008
The fact that the Democrats are so vehemently against Gov. Romney is the best reason to support him. They've been so wrong about so many things in recent years they have become a perfect reverse barometer. Read them, do the opposite and you'll be in pretty good shape!
Ace Ventura | 12:57 p.m. Aug. 14, 2008
Hmmm...the Dems must be the most scared of Romney as a potential VP, or they wouldn't be targeting him. Gives one pause for thought.

And Woodward's comment is hysterical: "Look at this guy's track record. Look what he's actually done, not what he says...." Better hope that test isn't applied to Senator Obama. LOL
Splitme2 | 1:01 p.m. Aug. 14, 2008
From the short list of eight possible VP's it looks like Romney is probably the most recognized. Maybe that is why they start the attacks with him.

Obama will be the next president although I won't be voting for Obama or McCain.
No surprise | 12:59 p.m. Aug. 14, 2008
The Clintons had to run an opinion poll before they took a stand on any issue. Hillary's campaign was like a chameleon, changing every time she changed audiences. Obama's only opinion is that we need change, but he's never laid out any real plans to change anything. Both leading Democratic candidates campaigned with the mantra to tell their audiences whatever they thought their audiences wanted to hear.

Obama would be a disaster as president.

Not knowing where you got your quote, could you please explain your request for an explanation? Perhaps you could explain your reference to "LDS dogma"............or is there no explanation?
Kate | 1:05 p.m. Aug. 14, 2008
Ah, that was a fun read. A good CEO doesn't necessarily make a good VP or President and apparently not a good Governor, either. GO MITT!!

Integrity has rarely been an asset of any politician over the course of human history. Integrity for these politicians means sticking to one lie and not deviating from it. Perhaps the dems are mad that Romney is playing the game transparently...lying and not covering it up. He's pretty smart, I think, because he knows the American public has a short memory, or maybe a high tolerance for liars.
to courgarkeith | 1:21 p.m. Aug. 14, 2008
I hope that the demos do not attack Romney. He is the democrats only hope to win in November!!! Let the gop put this yo-yo bobblehead on the ticket so we can win!!!

Please John McCain, choose him!!!!!!!!

Plez!!!!!!!!!!!!
Rich | 1:21 p.m. Aug. 14, 2008
How laughable is this comment:

About Romney, Woodward said, "We need to actually make sure we're informing the public. Look at this guy's track record. Look what he's actually done, not what he says, because he clearly can't maintain the position for more than a couple sound bites."

Sounds like he's talking about his own candidate for President.

What has Obama DONE? What is his TRACK RECORD?

Anonymous | 1:24 p.m. Aug. 14, 2008
Great comment from Who Loves Politics! If Mitt wants a shot at eventually becoming President he shouldn't tie his wagon to McCain in this election. Let Obama mess things up for while and Mitt can come in with some real political ammunition in four years.
The Rock | 1:22 p.m. Aug. 14, 2008
The DNC obviously preceives Romney as a threat. His record as a turn around artist is very impressive.

If I were a Democrat I would attack him too.

Nobody is as arrogant as the Democrats. They think they have a right to choose the Republican leadership.
They tried to get rid of Ed Meese under Reagan.
They got rid of Newt Gingrich (although Gingrich helped it along with his affair).
They tried to get rid of Carl Rove.
Now they are trying to pick McCain's running mate.

Democrats hate effective Republicans. If they were not effective the Dems would promote them.
BJ | 1:22 p.m. Aug. 14, 2008
I think they're afraid of him...
Romney is just another liar | 1:30 p.m. Aug. 14, 2008
Anonymous,

"I'm curious how Romney will explain:

"God hasn't spoken to man since Moses," when this clearly contradicts LDS dogma."

As a Mormon I would never vote for Romney because he's a liar, lacks integrity and constantly changes positions to suit the target voting block.

Romney has no shame. He denies that God has spoken to Joseph Smith and speaks to Latter-day prophets and still claims to be a Mormon to gain the support of Mormons while denying Joseph Smith to appease the evangelicals.

Other examples of Romney lies include the time he said he SAW his father march with Martin Luther King only to retract and say that it was a "figure of speech" and he meant he was alive at the time.

Then we receive reports that prior to saying he saw his father march with MLK he was telling people that he and his father marched with Martin Luther King. I guess it was a figure of speech too and Mitt Romney was ONLY alive at the time King marched.

Either way I would never vote for him since he's a lying flip-flopper who uses the Church as a way to get votes.
Caroline Jenkins | 1:34 p.m. Aug. 14, 2008
I'm in Florida. Governor Romney was my first choice in the primary and I would be delighted to have him on the ticket with Senator McCain. I like what he stands for and I like his good looking family!! I think his name on the ticket will help McCain in Florida.
Brad | 1:36 p.m. Aug. 14, 2008
Just two words for the DNC - John Edwards
Wahhhhh... | 1:43 p.m. Aug. 14, 2008
The democrats are saying mean things about republicans? Imagine that! That's not fair. After all, we never say anything bad about those nasty democrats, do we? Well, wait a minute, maybe we do, but that's ok, because they are truly evil, commie marxists. Our complaints are justified. They have no right to taint the image of our sainted Mitt. Mommy! They're being mean to us! Barney isn't playing nice! I think I'm gonna cry.
Mitt Romney on John McCain | 1:41 p.m. Aug. 14, 2008
"Romney: McCain's Record "Is Not Of The Kind Of Leadership You'd Want To Have." Romney said, "And frankly, being a committee chairman is not leading a great organization or making great things happen. And for that matter, you know, what's happened in Washington in the last 25 years? Have you seen the kinds of results that America wanted? Did they get the job done? Unfortunately not. So if he has been a leader, where has it led us? Look at his legislation. McCain-Feingold, that hurt our First Amendment rights? McCain-Kennedy, that was granting amnesty to 10 million illegal aliens? And then now, McCain-Lieberman, that wants to put a huge tax, effectively, on American gasoline buyers and rate-payers? His record is not of the kind of leadership you'd want to have." [CNN, Late Edition w/ Wolf Blitzer, 1/27/08]

Thanks for the ringing endorsement of John McCain. I hope he chooses Romney as Vice President so Mitt can explain to us how McCain is the wrong man to lead the U.S. Now Romney is campaigning for McCain even though we all know how he believes he lacks any leadership ability and doesn't know anything about the economy.
Baptist | 1:49 p.m. Aug. 14, 2008
Conservative christian radio along with conservative Christian denominations especially in the Bible-belt would not support Mitt.

McCain and Romney.
Now there's a dream team.
Right up there with Cheney and Bush.
Romney Pick = lack of judgment | 1:51 p.m. Aug. 14, 2008
kc,

"I've always wanted Romney as McCain's running mate and believe that would be a very strong ticket that will win the election."

This doesn't make a lot of sense. Romney has one of the worst records and would be a liability to McCain yet you want him to be McCain's running mate.

"The way the DNC has now raised their game in their all-out ATTACK against Romney just confirms to me that I am "right on". Romney/McCain can win!! GO "MCCAIN/ROMNEY'08"! :)

There are 8 others on the website, and Romney was the last to be added, and they discuss how each of them would be a poor choice for Vice President and would just be another replacement for Dick Cheney. So his FINALLY being added doesn't seem to support your argument that Romney's the best choice because Democrats are going "all-out" since they went all out on the others first which LOGICALLY means they would be the stronger candidates by your argument.

I suggest you get your facts straight before posting because you are making yourself look stupid.

There are numerous choices and yet McCain's list includes some of the worst demonstrating lack of judgment.
Mary | 1:57 p.m. Aug. 14, 2008
Why do the Democrats feel the need to attack 8 people who MIGHT be on the ticket? Are they so bored in strengthening their own candidate that they must now pull 8 names out of a hat and start attacking? This borders on slander, as these 8 have not been named on the ticket, they are mearly Republicans with some form of a track record. How about spending all of that negative attack money on paying Hilary's bills that she balked on paying? I hear she's still angry about that. Oh, wait, Dems don't pay their bills, they just love to spend more, so I guess this is as good as anything to spend their money on.......
Timj | 1:55 p.m. Aug. 14, 2008
For those of you who are die-hard Republicans...
There's dissent in the ranks. Huckabee and co. are also campaigning against Romney. Huckabee claims it's not about religion; personally, I think it has everything to do with religion. A huge percentage of the religious right just doesn't like Mormons.
