What a great event this was! Mark Jolley did an outstanding job helping run this marathon. There were a lot of great runners and some great non runners as well. I was glad to see the Northridge football staff run. Coach Duckworth and Veazie each looked like they got shot and were walking wounded. Coach T was running like he had a wooden leg. Great job to everyone!!

does anyone think that this race is as hard as ogden or st. george?? I felt like they were both equally as tough... great race though.

So did any women run this marathon?

I don't think either St George or Salt Lake compare to Ogden. Ogden is, in my opinion one of the best in the world and yes I have ran many outside the U.S.

The winner had the after-burners on during the last stretch. It was impressive, congratulations!

In spite of the greater elevation loss the DesNews course is much slower than St. George. I've run both multiple times. My best time in St. George is 2:23:57, the current version of the DesNews course - 2:31:54. It is somewhat similar to Ogden as far as what you should expect performance-wise. Recovery after DesNews is a different story - that is the only marathon after which I've had a hard time walking in the last 5 years.
Women did run the marathon. Rebecca Walter won in 3:01. I do not recall the name of the second place finisher, but her time was 3:14. Third place was Ally Scott in 3:18. All women were local.
The article also failed to mention Steve Ashbaker who was the second local finisher in 2:38.

I did the first 15 miles of the marathon last Sat as a long run and was so sore I couldnt run again till Tuesday and that was bad. I opted not to do the 10K today since I was still fatigued. That downhill is brutal.

That downhill IS brutal. My legs were gone at 24 miles and just plodded in (3:24-my new PR).

DesNews marathon is one of the worst! The downhill is brutal on the body. Many people think it is easier because of the downhill, but it actually is much harder. Many "professional" marathoners refuse to do it because of how hard it is on the body. St. George and Salt Lake are easy.

Keep working, comrade. One day you might get fast enough to be called national class.

Not all the woman were local. My friend Sarah drove out from Kansas City to run it, and did. She says it was brutal, but she was pleased to have finished.

This was my third Deseret Marathon (first on the new course) and 13th marathon overall. Beautiful course but I couldn't walk for two days afterwards (stiff calves...should have used the ice tub). But I'm doing it again. The pain was worth it.
