Fabian Espindola only played like 20 minutes in the second half(not 45).

In order to get the real feel for this game you would have had to see it. A newspaper article really can't give it any justice. But, I hope this will quiet those skeptics that think that Costa Rica doesn't have any good soccer teams to go up against the Real Salt Lake. Ticos are tough players and they take the game very seriously. And Saprissa isn't just one of the best there - it is the best!

Well,I went to the game and it was ok in the first half, it was more than a lab work for both teams, they were studying each other, some shots here and there for both teams but the first half just went by. But in the second half a few changes brough a more agresive Saprissa team than Real, they found mistakes and they finally find the gate open and two quick goals shot down Real but then the friendly game wasn't friendly anymore two ejections for both team brought the game to a different level, tempers were more hot than normal, finally Real at the end of the game found a Goal but run out of time and steam. Even Real lost the game doesn't mean it was bad, its good for Real to start facing this kind of friendly matches with Concaf teams, who knows may be it will bring better times for the Team in the future. Go Real you did great. The team has a long way to go but its not the end of the rope, its a young team with a great future.

Does RSL really take games like this seriously seeing that they are in the middle of a season? Common sense would say they are taking it a little less seriously.

When we played Santos, I commented that these mid-season friendlies were useless and someone replied that this was the nature of soccer, get used to it. Releasing international players for friendlies, however, is much different from playing a mid-season club friendly--a practice that is very uncommon in Europe. Playing at half speed with a makeshift lineup doesn't tell you anything about your players or team that you can't learn in practice, plus you risk a lot in the form of possible injuries, fatigue for upcoming matches, and the psychological effects of getting spanked in front of your fans. These matches are inevitably lethargic until someone violates the gentlemen's agreement and goes in hard, then things turn nasty quickly. I, for one, could care less about seeing international teams in meaningless games; we should respect our league and team more. This is the kind of match we should be playing in our preseason or not at all.

Out of all the comments read your is the only one that makes any real sense about the game. You must really understand the game very well. And yes I believe that in order for REAL or if any soccer team here in the USA wants to be something they have to go up against the CONCACAF. So that's why I don't think Full90 knows what he's talking about. Going up against international teams is far from meaningless. What does he think the USA Team is made up from? They take players from the already formed US teams. And who does the USA Team play?? International teams. So that's why I think it's very important and far from meaningless. I guess Full90 just doesn't get the game too much.

I think these types of games are great. It provides us with a chance to see a team we would not normally see. The flexibility in soccer and the customs it carries allows for these types of games, no matter when they are. As for risk, these players are in practices, and they could get hurt in practice. Right? It is a possibility just like in a game like this.

This is the kind of match I like to see when we have almost a full week to analyze the game and get ready for the next game.
Friendlies...meh.. | 9:11 a.m. July 24, 2008
I don't care if we lose all of our "Friendlies".

I would rather have them tinker and fiddle during these matches, and then win in league play.

Saprissa looked decent, but I think they would lose 6 out of 10 games to RSL.

I don't go to our international friendlies with any thought of whether we win or lose or learn lessons. I'm just thrilled to see soccer played on a higher level. I loved every minute of the Santos game because it was great to watch some world-class soccer played live right here in my own backyard.

HA hA HA RSL lose again. That is why Americans should not play soccer, we get whooped every time we play foreigners.
Re:Utefan | 3:05 p.m. July 24, 2008
...again lad, you don't do yourself much justice.

RSL has quite a few "foreigners" on their team. RSL is not an all "American" team. This is no way reflects the USA vs Foreigners.

Your comments embarrass Americans.
To Utefan | 7:51 p.m. July 24, 2008
You don't much about soccer do you?? The majority of the players on RSL and other US teams ARE Foreigners. So you're pretty naive in your thinking or maybe you didn't think before you wrote what you did.
