I am sure the religious orgs will be right on top of this - especially the brethern.

The LDS Church has other obligations and seek to address needs that individuals and charities can't address. To use the limited resources of the Church to provide water to the homeless is a secondary obligation that the Church will address when it has enough resources to do so.
Many erroneously believe that the Church has unlimited resources but it doesn't. If it did than every natural disaster would be sufficiently provided for and the Church could run FEMA and let the government know that it doesn't need its help.
We would always be willing to fly the Flag of the Kingdom of God over the White House if Bush wants to vacate and let an Apostle move in. Just Kidding about that last one.

Can I sugget a few drinking fountains be placed on the sides or backs of some buldings. The homeless can easily find their own bottles to fill for other times of need. The Church and city can encourage this through businesses, etc. It need not require any money, and they don't even need to be refrigerated.
Somehow the Saints 'hydrated' themselves, with God's help, when they first arrived in the Salt Lake Valley. They too were homeless, and yet God provided.

Look, the homeless have taken care of themselves for eons. In the old days, a garden hose on the front lawn would suffice, a business would let a person in to get a drink, there are fountains all around the city, get inside a Mall, under a shade tree, beg if you need to, but let's us not make this a guilt trip for the populace to shoulder and finance just to get a guy a drink. (of water) Okay good samaritians, go pass out oil made plastic bottles so the homeless can discard them allover the streets, and cost the city to pick them up.Duh.
