Remember Oklahoma City | 6:12 a.m. July 21, 2008
With neocons spreading outspoken hatred for liberals and trying to divide the country further and further apart, my fear is from an internal enemy.
Another Oklahoma City may be in the future.

You can thank the neocons for that if it does happen.

Be afraid. Stay afraid. It'll make it easier when the time comes...

Substitute "lightning" for "terrorism" in this editorial and it would be a pretty good satire and make just about as much sense.

I'm just not worried about being struck by lightning.

The GOP platform-
"terror, terror, terror, terror, terror, terror, terror (ad nauseum)"...

Vote Republican!
GeeBee | 8:13 a.m. July 21, 2008
Stay scared...that way you'll vote the way I say...

The sad truth is that we american citizens just do not have leaders of qualification or quality in key goverment leadership positions in these days when we most need good representation. All we have are a bunch of polititions with money or party connections that get them into offices that they are not able, or willing to sacrifice their time and work at doing their jobs. Mostly they are in office because they are yes men/women and party loyalist.
once bought into the neocon lies | 9:29 a.m. July 21, 2008
Scare'em and ya got 'em.
This worked post 9/11 when we all bought into the Neocon's lies re: Iraq having anything to do with 9/11 (the culprits were all Saudis, who, interestingly enough, used to be great friends with the Bush family.
Is it November yet?

A nuclear bomb on a ship in an American port is easy to do and the most nightmarish thing they could do to us. Yet Bush has done virtually nothing to defend us against such a thing (except to fob off our port security contract to Dubai!). When LA or San Francisco or Seattle are utterly destroyed and the fallout clouds blow over Utah, we will wonder what our leaders were thinking and doing playing games in Iraq...

what our leaders were thinking and doing playing games in Iraq... ?
Easy!
Wanna know how much $$$ is being generated by Dick and Lynn Cheney's Halliburton and Lockheed Martin?
More of the same | 11:43 a.m. July 21, 2008
Once, my Mormon ancestors where ranchers. They knew if you go to the same well, all the time, it will run dry. Republicans can't figure this out. They are city folks, I guess.

The water in the republican well is bitter containing the sky is falling fears tactic or calling people socialist.
neocons have no power | 12:07 p.m. July 21, 2008
Name-calling and the demonization of words such as liberal, are all the neocons have left in their arsenal of dividing the country.
They have no power and everyone knows it.
Lewt | 12:15 p.m. July 21, 2008
So..we fight them THERE AND we fight them HERE, too. Doesn't this new strategy call for another bumper sticker???
Chicken Little | 12:15 p.m. July 21, 2008
The sky is falling! The sky is falling!

Oh, and, uh...please continue in the abandonment of your civil liberties and Constitutionally granted rights.
Chris Plummer | 1:50 p.m. July 21, 2008
Homeland Security is just another Pork project. One need not look further than our own airports and the implementation of TSA agents to see how they pay lip service to Security but lack and substance whatsoever.
I don't... | 2:16 p.m. July 21, 2008
think the threat would ever go away, but so is getting run over by a distracted driver on State Street. Do I need to be paranoia because of these threats or any other threat out there? I don't think so.

I think it is always a wonderful idea to be aware of my surroundings and it won't hurt to look over my shoulders every once in a while, but I will keep on going in enjoying life paranoia free...

Who said freedom is free? Americans have paid for freedom. Then the conservative me generations comes along. They are willing to sell their freedom for the promise of security from a administration with no qualms about lying.

Osama won over Bush. American is in debt to China, getting on a airplane can be an ordeal. We have searches without warrants, secret courts and bigger government.

We let a terrorist change America on his terms.
only two ways | 3:19 p.m. July 21, 2008
There are only two ways to control people:
Guilt or Fear.

Which one are YOU being controlled by?

Both?

Libertarian | 4:59 p.m. July 21, 2008
And why was Amrerica attacked? Because were free? For fun?

How about we have interviened in other nations business for 90 years!
Of course they want revenged, we armed their enemy isreal. We had a favorite sibling. We put sanction after sanction after sanction. I would be mad too!

Our founding fathers knew not to be the police of the world.
"The great rule of conduct for us, in regard to foreign nations, is, in extending our commercial relations, to have with them as little political connection as possible. So far as we have already formed engagements, let them be fulfilled with perfect good faith:—here let us stop." George Washington’s farewell address.

Bush in a debate with Gore in 2000.
"I don't think we can be all things to all people in the world. I think we've got to be very careful when we commit our troops. The vice president and I have a disagreement about the use of troops. He believes in nation building. I would be very careful about using our troops as nation builders."

Hmmm.... But you neocons just keep following blindly.

Ron Paul Revolution!
who really cares? | 5:31 p.m. July 21, 2008
The neocons got what they wanted post 9/11:
an illegal, immoral, unwinnable war
wiretapping of civilians
torture
disappearance of habeus corpus
an economy in the toilet while the elites calling the shots get filthy [bleepin'] rich.
But that is all about to change so who really gives a [bleep] what the neocons do or don't do?
color-coded days of danger | 5:44 p.m. July 21, 2008
I don't know about anybody else, but I miss those special color-coded days of yesteryear.

You remember:
Yellow alert
Red alert
Orange alert

Ah, yes. Those were the good ol' days.
Cats | 6:29 p.m. July 21, 2008
I just can't get over these nasty, hateful, shortsighted people. All they do is sit at their computers and spew out hate and ignorance. I guess it's the only way they can feel important and try to make something out of their pathetic little lives.

It's both sad and frightening.
Anonymous | 7:46 p.m. July 21, 2008
Cats: why are you here? What noble cause are you forwarding and what great insights with you unveil for us?
dcc | 10:18 p.m. July 21, 2008
Yes Cats. Be afraid.

Americans, even Utahns, have woken up to the fact that the never ending mantra of "Fear, Terror, Fear, Terror" doesn't mean anything. We are no safer now than we were before the Iraq war. We are probably in a worse situation.

So if you choose to fear so be it. The rest of us have finally grown a pair.
Terrorists? | 10:35 p.m. July 21, 2008
Where are they? A few questionable arrests and not a single conviction, but our borders remain OPEN? I will not live in fear and be led to believe there is an invisible enemy lurking behind every corner ready to do his evil deeds.

If there are people who would do this country harm it is because we did something to infuriate them like occupy their land and plunder their oil.

Rational thought dictates that human beings by their very nature want to live. Those who would choose to give their life are few and far between and do so only when the cause is just, like protecting freedom and family, or a threat is imminent. The remaining few are willing only because they have nothing to live for.

The real conspiracy is the brainwashing of the American people into believing that there is some organized group out there waiting and planning for years for their chance to kill innocent people because they hate freedom.

Who has this kind of time on their hands even if there were a breed of zombie like people?

As Spock would say, it is illogical Captain. Stay the course and guard your freedom.
Punny | 11:58 p.m. July 21, 2008
The terror threat hasn't left. But is has right. And far right. It's how they get elected.
