Everywhere I read that paint is cheap. It's not.

Painting is cheaper than renovating.

I LIKE the fact we descended from New Englanders! I think it's what has given us great style with classic looks. I would hate to lose our sense of who we are and where we come by our expression in our house paints. I prefer neighborhoods that are more compatible looking with one another than the awkward look of one house here or there standing out. I think it hurts the neighborhood in it's overall "sense of community".

I think you can get some fun color ideas from the colorful homes in the Daybreak subdivision in South Jordan off of 114th South and Bangerter Highway. Founders Village has some very fun colors from red to pumpkin to bright blue and yellow and purple. It is very compatible as a neighborhood and doesn't have that cookie cutter look to the neighborhood.

I don't like blue houses...clashes with the sky.

I'm visiting in Southern California. The community I'm staying in has all of the homes in only a few colors. They must paint the house trim approved colors only. It looks nice and tidy and well-kept, but individualism is lost. After seeing house after house after house with same color of stucco and the same color tile roofs, give me something different.

You're right! Paint can be creative and fun! One of the most remarkable and beautiful things I saw done with paint was a friend who had a 8 foot concrete foundation behind her backyard patio. She painted a mural of gigantic bright red poppies and green leaves against a blue background. She put brown wicker furniture and red pillows nearby. The result was spectacular! I have another friend who painted faux frames and windowboxes around her raised basement windows. She painted tendrils of ivy and tiny roses wrapped around twig garlands. Several brightly colored birdhouses (real, not painted) are nearby. It is charming.
