DUDS? | 7:13 a.m. July 17, 2008
An appropriately titled article when talking about the U of U football team.
I'm glad... | 7:44 a.m. July 17, 2008
that the Utah Players are excited about their new uniforms. I'm glad that coach Whittingham is of the opinion that "that is what it is all about".

Prediction! | 8:25 a.m. July 17, 2008
New, old, nice, or ugly, the uniforms won't help Utah beat BYU this year! Here is my prediction: BYU beats Utah, and Utah takes off their uniforms after the game and begins burning the uniforms on the field because they believe the new uni's jinxed them against BYU, and Utah drops their Under Armour sponsor!
3 BYU fans above | 8:28 a.m. July 17, 2008
Obsessed with Utah football.
Say it again | 8:37 a.m. July 17, 2008
Do you think Coach Whittingham could possibly say Under Armor or excited a few more times?
sweet.... | 8:45 a.m. July 17, 2008
icing on the cake!
"I think were exited that we're | 9:21 a.m. July 17, 2008
"I think we're exited that we're excited because of all this excitement we really have become excited. Really, if you think about all the excitment you will realize that this is all very exciting. I am certianly excited and the players are excited to."

Some possible synonyms for Coach Whittingham to add to the vocabulary in the future:

BYU Uni's are a joke | 9:53 a.m. July 17, 2008
Hey byU fans, how about you give the Aggies back their colors now?

Utah WILL beat byU this year in both Football and Basketball. Order will be restored to the Universe and byU fans will be left to ponder how come they aren't living right.

Go Utes!!!
Re: duds | 10:09 a.m. July 17, 2008
Best post ever!
Uniforms | 10:32 a.m. July 17, 2008
When will the Frutes realize simply changing uniforms will not better their chances against BYU.

Order has been restored to the universe and conference with BYU dominating, check your thirty year history.
I agree | 10:34 a.m. July 17, 2008
Why did ByU steal the colors from Utah State?
Whatever Dude | 10:42 a.m. July 17, 2008
What do you mean order will be restored to the universe with Utah beating BYU? Since when has Utah had a constistently beat BYU in both Football and Basketball? Other than a small period, it hasn't happened during the past 30 years. There is no need to restore order, it was already done with the hirings of Mendenhall and Rose. Go Cougars!
Crimson beautiful Crimson | 10:50 a.m. July 17, 2008
Can't wait to see a sea of Crimson again this year at a BCS bowl. Cougar fans can relate, there is a sea of BYU Aggie Blue every year at the Las Vegas Bowl.
Go Utes | 11:01 a.m. July 17, 2008
At least the new uni's won't have a white bib on the front of the jersey. Like the color thieves from down south.
kewgers ought to change also... | 11:36 a.m. July 17, 2008
I think a uniform patterned after Hello kitty would suit them better. After all we all know they are the little sister to UTAH!!! p.s. wouldn't cosmo look cute?

Go Utes!!!!
Utes/Duds | 11:41 a.m. July 17, 2008
"...U to unveil new duds..."

DN strikes again!
concast-hater | 11:58 a.m. July 17, 2008
I'm so excited for football I actually read this no-news article. Who cares? Just start the kick off!
Ute in Philadelphia | 12:02 p.m. July 17, 2008
Not bad. MAJOR improvement over that lame "trendy" Univ. of Miami "Coke-can" look we've been using since Meyer left. Nevertheless, I still liked the unis worn by our players back in the Fassell/McBride era much better.

GO UTES!!!
RESTORE ORDER! | 12:08 p.m. July 17, 2008
Since '93 Utah is 9-6 against byU in football. And is 24-14 against byU in basketball. Take away the past two years and the kewgs record is pretty pathetic. (9-4 and 24-10)
re: concast-hater | 12:10 p.m. July 17, 2008
You summed it up nicely. Can't wait for Aug. 30.
Re: Uniforms | 12:18 p.m. July 17, 2008
30 year history? That seems to be an interesting time frame. By the way since 1978, BYU 19, Utah 11. OK you win.

What is the record between the two in the last 15? That seems like relevant history. Utah 9, BYU 6.

History restored....... I can't wait for this year.

You fans in blue have set your self up for a huge let down. It is going to be quite fun to see the sad faces on Sunday.

You have a few more weeks to crow but the reality will soon start to set in.
WHY | 12:21 p.m. July 17, 2008
Red on red again? Come on! Let's try something new that doesn't look dumb. How bout white pants? Or heck, lets try some alternate black uni's for a change.
To the ladies of byu | 12:23 p.m. July 17, 2008
All these little BYU fans like to pick when to pull statistics from, why not he entrie history of the series? In football, Utah 54, BYU 33. In basketball, Utah 124, BYU 121. Don't worry, I will give you credit for you NC against a 6-5 Michigan that was won in the last four minutes. Let me ask a question of you all, after you lose to washington, do we get to change the fight song to rise and shout the cougars have choked at the beginning of the season again...?
ugly | 12:27 p.m. July 17, 2008
congrats yewts your helmets finally match the jerseys
Re: WHY | 12:34 p.m. July 17, 2008
We have alternate black uni's. They are on NCAA Football '09. All black ones.
Restore Order!!! | 12:43 p.m. July 17, 2008
Interesting... "Restore Order!!!" accidentally noted that since 2006 BYU is 2-0 vs. Utah in football and 4-0 vs. Utah in basketball. But if you eliminate all of the games that BYU won and assume that Utah won every game played in the history of the rivalry, then BYU is a bunch of losers and Utah is AMAZING!!! In fact, Utah is so AMAZING that their President is a BYU grad, their Head Football Coach is a BYU grad, and their only perfect football season was immediately followed by the Head Coach heading South. Oops...
Colors | 12:46 p.m. July 17, 2008
Hey cougirls, at least we know what our colors are. you guys have a little identity crisis. are you royal and white, aggie and gold, or aggie blue and white? What's in store the NEXT ten years?
Classy | 12:52 p.m. July 17, 2008
I love the classy photo shoot they had in front of a chain link fence on the side of the road. Did gymnastics have their press room scheduled?
BYU Lady | 12:54 p.m. July 17, 2008
It's true, BYU's National Championship was clinched against a perennially powerful Michigan team that was 6-5. Utah, on the other hand, obviously deserved to be National Champions after beating a perennially mediocre that accidentally earned a BCS berth (Big East) and ended up 9-4.

But yes, after BYU loses to Washington, BYU fans will hang their heads in shame... The Utes, on the other hand, will attempt to score against UNLV this year. 27-7 is a little more respectable than getting blanked by the Conference doormat.
not new recruits? | 12:55 p.m. July 17, 2008
When I saw the headline I thought it was going to be an article about their new recruits (new duds)...
putting them to good use | 1:02 p.m. July 17, 2008
All you aggie fans can shut yer pie holes about BYu's colors and be grateful someone is putting them to good use instead of associating them with "team that can't win". Besides, a long time ago that color was BYu's then they went to royal blue and then back to navy again.
Cougars go UNDEFEATED!!! | 1:22 p.m. July 17, 2008
To all of you stupid ute fans, new uniforms will not help you from getting crushed against BYU this year. You guys are just jealous that you were not accepted into BYU in the first place, so you had to settle for less! P.S. Congrats on finally having you helmets the same color as the rest of your butt ugly uniforms!

Go Cougars!!
New Sheriff in Town | 1:23 p.m. July 17, 2008
Unfortunately for Utah, the Skyline Conference and Utah's football dominance over BYU disappeared into the sunset with the dawning of the new Western Athletic Conference in 1962.

And, a new sheriff came to town.

Utah had their last hurrah in the 1964 Liberty Bowl, then disappeared from the bowl scene for the next 3 decades.

Before 1962

Utah--310-173-27 (61%); 31-2-4 vs BYU; 20 conference championships; 1 bowl; 0 top 20/25 finishes

BYU--128-179-22 (39%); 2-31-4 vs Utah; 0 conference championships; 0 bowls; 0 top 20/25 finishes

Since 1962 (WAC/MWC)

BYU--356-190-4 (65%); 28-18 vs Utah; 23 conference championships; 26 bowls; 15 top 20/25 finishes

Utah--272-244--4 (52%); 18-28 vs BYU; 5 conference championships; 12 bowls; 3 or 4 top 20/25 finishes

For the first 40 years, Utah dominated BYU in football.

For the last 45 years, BYU has dominated Utah in football.
cush | 1:24 p.m. July 17, 2008
Speaking of team color changes.... Does it look like they have moved back to the cherry red helmet, and away from the darker helmet they where so hip on a few years back?
Typical Ute Haters | 1:38 p.m. July 17, 2008
Remember Cougar fans (term used lightly)The overall series BYU VS Utah has been dominated by Utah the past 30 years does not a series make. Utah has more conference championships in football. Has more wins against BYU and the trend will continue order will be restored.
Uniforms | 1:41 p.m. July 17, 2008
Hey Y fans, why are u commenting on a UTAH article? Do you really love the U that much? That's kinda sad... same goes for the U fans that post on byU articles. Oh and Coogs you're right- uniforms don't help you beat your rival. Look at byU's year in 05. You know what helps byU win against Utah? Prayers and Miracles. Not skill.
Who cares? | 1:41 p.m. July 17, 2008
I'm not a Utah fan, but I like the uniforms.

I think both Utah and BYU will have a great 2008. Stop throwing around stats and trash talk. Let's just play some football. The game scores will speak for themselves.
@BYU Lady | 1:47 p.m. July 17, 2008
You are looking at a Utah/UNLV game in 2007 to somehow determine the legitimacy of the 2004 team? That's quite a stretch.

If I recall correctly, BYU was beaten by UTEP (yes UTEP) the year after their 1984 championship team. That is pretty embarassing.

However, the bottom line is that 1985 BYU/UTEP game had nothing to do with the 1984 team. And, the 2007 Utah/UNLV game had nothing to do with the 2004 Utah team.
@New Sheriff | 1:52 p.m. July 17, 2008
Your stats are correct (I think).

However, your conclusion is in error.

Utah did dominate the first 40 years of the series. BYU then dominated the next 30 years (not 45 as you stated).

The last 15 years have not been dominated by either team even though Utah has the head to head edge and BYU has the conference championship edge. Things have been pretty even since 1993.
You Can Put | 2:00 p.m. July 17, 2008
lipstick on a pig but it is still a pig!
Colors? | 2:03 p.m. July 17, 2008
Utah actually needs to decide on a color! Your helmets have never matched your uniforms. Which is it, Crimson or Candy Apple Red? Do you want cute little sparkles with that?
DUDS!! | 2:06 p.m. July 17, 2008
Even when the u of u tries to look good, they look bad. It is nice that the three or four u of u fans are prolific posters so that it looks like they are legion. Once again, I would like to thank the u of u fans that sell their home game tickets on ebay so that BYU fans can have a SEA of BLUE at the ute game on November 22.
Choose the Right | 2:06 p.m. July 17, 2008
To "Resore Order!!!" 12:43...I believe President Hinckley and President Monson graduated from Utah, what does that say about your perfect little world?

"Putting them to good use" you sound like a 10 year old bully. Your arguement is weak. Can you back up your claim that "a long time ago" BYU used navy? Maybe...maybe as an accent color, but I've always known Aggie Blue belonging to the Aggies.

Why are there so many Y fans commenting on this story anyway? And so negatively? Aren't you all supposed to be above this, living "the right way"? BYU needs to drop its sports program for the sake of the members of the LDS church. They say it does missionary work, but all I ever see in that aspect is hate and venom. It turns otherwise good people into monsters. It is a source of unrighteous pride.
I will hand it to them | 2:10 p.m. July 17, 2008
As mentioned before - it is nice that the helmet color actualy matches the uniform color now.

I am not a Utah fan but if the Utes did a Red jersey with black pants that would be pretty awesome. Even better looking than all black
Helmets | 2:11 p.m. July 17, 2008
I hope they keep the same color of helmets that they have used the past 3 years. The old red color is so ugly it makes me puke!
Trend schmend | 2:12 p.m. July 17, 2008
"Utah has more conference championships in football. Has more wins against BYU and the trend will continue order will be restored."

Conference Championships Last 5 Decades
Utah
1960s - 1
1970s - 0
1980s - 0
1990s - 2
2000s - 2

BYU
1960s - 1
1970s - 5
1980s - 7
1990s - 7
2000s - 3

Utah hasn't won more than 2 championships in a row in more than half a century.

BYU has won 65% of its games since 1962.
Utah has won 52% of its games since 1962.

Meyer and Crowton are history.
Bronco and Kyle are the new order.

In his first 3 seasons, Bronco is 28-10 (74%) overall; 21-3 (88%) in the MWC; 2-1 vs Utah; 2 conference championships; and 2 Top 25 finishes.

In his first 3 seasons, Kyle is 24-14 (63%) overall; 14-10 (58%) in the MWC; 1-2 vs BYU; 0 conference championships; and 0 Top 25 finishes.

As an avid BYU fan, I'm thoroughly enjoying the trend. Order, and BYU, has been restored.
New Uni's | 2:18 p.m. July 17, 2008
I like the New Uni's.
Under Armor makes some pretty cool gear.

I hate to wish the summer away but, I can't wait for the season to start. I'm way excited to see how the team does this year. It looks to be a great year!
oK | 2:18 p.m. July 17, 2008
They look just as bad and red as the last ones!
