I'm not FLDS but I feel for these people and how they are mis-treated by us and our government (not to mention the abuse the heap upon themselvs).
Having their homes raided, their personal information taken, their computers, any important papers, personal-jurnals, pictures, etc, then all their kids taken (and we complain bitterly about the government haveing access to our Library records or phone calls from terrorists).
That's bad enough but Think about how tolerant and patient you would be if you were in a group like these people, they've pooled all their resources over the years into this central repository (I know shame on them for not sending it all to Uncle Sam). But now they are on our radar so the government has taken control of this fund (basically their savings and everything they've earned in their life) , and now they no longer have any say or control over how it is used? And the courts agree?
I know the FLDS have their own issues with abuse in their own communities, but does that justify us using our government and courts to heap more abuses upon them?

If they would use their money to fix up their property instead of giving all their money to the church, they wouldn't be in this spot. Instead of paying for a charlitan and convicted sex offender's legal fees, and building temples and guardtowers in other states, they should be taking care of their own homes and families.
The court is trying to reverse that trend by putting the properties and monies back into the pockets of the people that built them and live in them instead of the church. Unfortunately, the brainwashed followers will only deal with church members so it's getting all stalled out in the courts.

You say, "If they would use their money to fix up their property instead of giving all their money to the church, they wouldn't be in this spot".
Who are WE to say how they should be using their money (to take care of their property). Who are WE to say they can't give all their money to their church if they want?
Are we OK with the government telling us how much of our money must be spent on "Taking care of our property"? And if we give too much to our church... We are OK with the government jumping in and taking over that fund?
Since when does the government have the right to decide we can't make our own decisions (even if our decision is to send money to the church)?
If we quitely let the government do this to the FLDS... Who's to say they won't use the same tactics against other groups that give money to their churches (because us outsiders collectively decided their leaders are charlitans)?
This fund sort of emulates the system liberals propose (send your income to a central store and it will be distributed back as you need it). Only-problem-is-in-this-case-the-GOVERNMENT-isn't-the-central-collector-and-distributor.

you're right - it's up to the people to decide what to do with their property. We shouldn't decide, and we DIDN'T decide. They did. They decided to give everything to the church instead of their families.
You can give everything to the church, just like the guy with the dairy farm, or you can keep it to make sure your family gets it. But if you give it away, don't complain when you don't have it. After all - YOU GAVE IT AWAY!
I'm just amused that now, after giving it away, they complain that they don't have it. I mean - if you want to take care of your family, then don't give everything away. That's just common sense.
Again, it's another example of the church being more important than the family. Common FLDS problem, and probably the root of most of the issues they encounter.
Most people understand that if you give something away, it is no longer yours. Guess the FLDS are finally realizing what the ordinary common-sense citizen already knew. Don't give away things that you want your family to have. It's not rocket science.

we all feel bad for them (especially the children), but most of this is brought on by blindly following their "prophet". They constantly say "it's the prophet's will". PLEASE - tell them to get their own minds.
you state that they now have no control over their money and property. Listen - they lost control of that a long time ago when they gave everything to the church - and yet they still do it to this day! Including their children's lives.
These people had no say in this money going on a long time now. The courts determined that Warren Jeffs and his cronies were not using the people's money to benefit the people but were instead using it to benefit themselves. This trust control is an effort to fix that and get the money back to the rightful owners.
Unfortunately, the FLDS sheep just want it all back so they can re-deed it to Jeffs or other church leader. You can lead a horse to water....

Yes they put their money in a church trust and it was well managed before Jeffs........or so the argument goes.
The trust is now being "managed" by Wisan and a board of advisors made up of ex-flds members truing to get what they believe is their share of the pie.
There lies the problem....Walls gets a million for her testimony.....several others want a chunk of the bankroll and their interests are put before the current church members.
The lawyers get their cut...and bleed the flds.
The pigs are at the trough and they were led there by the very same people responsible for spreading gossip and hatred.

re - zxcvbnm:
well there you go. They gave their money and property away. It's not theirs anymore. Why is it so hard to understand that if you give away your money and sign away your property, then it's not yours anymore?
If you asked a million people whether if they give something away is it still theirs, I think nearly all would get the answer right.
I told you more FLDS should go to good colleges. Obviously they missed the "don't give everything away" class. Or the prophet replaced it with a "give me everything - God said so" lesson instead.
Wish I was a good con man - it'd be easy pickins...

harm rather than justice.
I hope that whom ever has charge of the FLDS people and funds at this point uses the postion to further
the belief. Don't blow it.
You must insure that all Sexual activites between
men and women are of age and consentual.
This might deflect the media away if there is nothing to report.
As far as the upcoming Senate hearing demand that you be heard along with the other witness's.
Although I don't buy into all your beliefs I support all that you stand for and hope that the leaders of
your church don't allow underage marriage or sexual
relations without consent of both parties, that seems only fare.
The govement is looking for a target, please don't
allow them any evidence of sexual activites. It will
destroy your church. Although it's not right they will try very hard.
Start your own public relations push now before they start up again. Use the media daily. People do care and what to stay informed.
GOOD LUCK.
