Thats a great letter. Since these folks can't afford insurance (thats what it boils down to) then they can certainly afford a TAXI or busing it everyday.
There will always be those who lapse in insurance payments in order to SURVIVE life and provide for their family.
You HAVE to get to work.
The best part is if you get pulled over and ticketed for not having insurance, it is something like $600, half a years insurance. Which makes certain that those who can't afford it NOW REALLY can't afford it.
I'm all for having insurance, but there is a reality out there that is not being addressed by letters like the one above.

Why do I always read about uninsured drivers being in accidents when they aren't driving to work? It happens when they're driving all sorts of places so this isn't an issue of HAVING to get to work.

Besides, there is the UTA option. It is much, much cheaper than driving a car. Sure, it may be inconvenient and take some time but people need to be accountable for damage they cause while driving. Mandatory insurance provides this accountability.

Chris, your reasoning is ludicrous. Just because people cannot afford insurance does not justify them driving an uninsured vehicle. It is a huge risk to have uninsured motorists on our streets. It is dangerous to you also! You would be singing a different tune if you had ever been hit by someone uninsured and had to cough up your own money to repair damages. If someone is chagrined at the inconveniences of UTA options, they can get a bike! Or get a job closer to their home! There are options besides being a menace to society and breaking the law!
