This guy will be inprisoned for 5 years or less for killing a boy, but the front page news is about a guy who gets a 5 year sentence for killing a few puppies. So the life of a child is worth less than the life of a few puppies. Several months ago a man was sentenced to 6 months in jail for raping a 14 year old boy, a "punishment" he'll likely enjoy while getting plenty of action in prison. Politicians - please fix these problems. Crime rates are high because of inadequate punishment and rehabilitation.

Another story in the DN reports that a man is sentenced for up to 5 years for throwing puppies in the garbage- all but one died. 5 years for puppies but this guy thinks that 2 years for killing a baby should be sufficient? Where are our values when people are more outraged by the abuse of animals than by the abuse of a helpless baby?

So sad that even now, in prison, learning a building trade, getting an education, and having taken victim impact classes, he "denied being abusive. He said he would also like to see the children he has had with another woman."

He also "blamed his temper along with being sick, but said he didn't really have a 'good, solid answer' for Cangro's death."

He still does not understand that he was abusive, is not addressing that fact, and that because of his actions a tiny child died.

The mom is just as guilty as he is.

She tells of the abusive relationship she had with this man and says he should get life. I agree he should get life, but what about her? Why didn’t she get her son out of that relationship? She may have to live without her son, but he lived through unheard of abuse.

Now Jayden is safe, where people who love him can protect him, which is what she should have been doing.

Sentancing guidelines in this state are so screwed up. This guy gets 5 years in Prison, and could be out in 2. And I read yesterday that a guy that killed some puppies gets 13 years and could be out in 5. HOW SCREWED UP IS THIS!!!!

I agree!

It's too bad that 'justice' does not allow for him to stay in jail until he DOES understand that he was abusive, and could be again, and to receive treatment to help him avoid losing control like that. (My migraines and bad back wipe me out - I'm not sure where he got the energy to attack this child).

Also, probation for a long time, and SUPERVISED visits to his children would be something to consider - but probably won't be - so that his children and anyone else in his sphere, has some protection.

You know this shouldn't really surprise anyone look at the system its always been screwed up. My mom was murdered 22 years ago and the man who did was sentanced to life but because of a few spelling errors he get a degree in law while I struggle to keep my family fed. The Law is only there to slap peoples hands and say not to do it again. They only feel bad for him because he acted like he was going to cry. He probably was more upset because he might not get parol.

5 years? Unbelievable. My question... where was the mother when this happened, esp. since she said she knew he was abusive?

There should NEVER be a plea agreement when a child is molested, abused, or as in this case killed.

Prosecutors need to prosecute, not negotiate.
