Good for VP Dick Cheney | 10:20 a.m. July 8, 2008
Plasma and LCDs Blamed for Accelerating Global Warming. Why do these people have any credibility left whatsoever? the gigantic, wasteful carbon footprint that the Democrats are going to make putting on their convention in Denver, all of these fires in California, a carbon footprint that dwarfs whatever automobiles out there are emitting, a gas used in the making of flat screen televisions, nitrogen trifluoride (NF3), is being blamed for damaging the atmosphere and accelerating global warming. Almost half of the televisions sold around the globe so far this year have been plasma or LCD TVs. But this boom could be coming at a huge environmental cost. The gas, widely used in the manufacture of flat screen TVs, is estimated to be 17,000 times as powerful as carbon dioxide. Ironically, NF3 is not covered by the Kyoto Protocol, as it was only produced in tiny amounts when the treaty was signed in 1997.

This is similar to the cigarette companies in the 60's and 70's. Good science was overruled by big company influence.

Republicans believe they have the right to foul the planet, use whatever they want, pollute whatever they want, take animal habitat, help the wealthy while hurting the poor. They have no conscience, social or otherwise.

Fear & Loathing | 12:35 p.m. July 8, 2008
Republicans are evil. Democrats are kind and loving. We should believe what the Democrats tell us about the environment because Republicans want to hurt people. Democrats protect us from having to learn the facts for ourselves. Statistics and climate science make me uncomfortable and anxious. I'm very thankful that the Democrats are studying this confusing issue in congressional hearings. I know that they will make the best decision on my behalf. They will protect me from the evil Republicans.

Polution isn't a Democrat vs Republican issue. We all have an impact on the planet (yes, even Democrats).

Are you just acting high and mighty? Or have you and the Democrats actually found a way to live without having any impact on the planet.

What I find interesting is... There was nothing in the paper about the testimony that WAS made. The only thing the DMN found news-worthy was that Cheney wanted to supress some testimony.

Just shows a little bias if you ask me. The issue itself (Public health consequences of Climate Change) and the testimony isn't important enough to get some ink in the paper, just whatever bad thing Cheny or Bush did lately is worth reporting on.

Not a word in the article about what WAS in the numerous pages of the document... The only important thing is that Cheney wanted to cut 6 pages, and some Democrats decided to resign because they don't like the way the Bush Administration is handling Climate Change (What a suprise).

I'll be glad when Obama is president and the Climate instantly goes back to normal (or at least stops being the key partisan bickering point for awhile).

Does the arrogance and dishonesty of this evil man have any bounds at all?

Cheney bears great responsibility for human misery played out in Asia, the Middle East and families all over the US. I hope there is enough eternity for him to experience payback.

Fear and Loathing is clearly being tongue-in-cheek, but he shouldn't be. The things he are saying are true, to an extent. This is about a vice president who wanted to hide information from the public, because he did not like what that information revealed. What else can be said? Dick Cheney is morally vacant, and lock-step neo-cons jump to his defense and praise him despite his undeniably clear record of lies, cronyism and obfuscation. He is pathetic, and I cannot wait until his "reign" ends and he fades into insignificance, his name only to be brought up when people are discussing the worst things that have ever happened to the United States.
I'm a Republican here folk's | 2:24 p.m. July 8, 2008
REMEMBER after 2009 ALL TV's will have to be set up for HD TV - (thank you NAFTA) - Almost half of the televisions sold around the globe so far this year have been plasma or LCD TVs. But this boom could be coming at a huge environmental cost. The gas, widely used in the manufacture of flat screen TVs, is estimated to be 17,000 times as powerful as carbon dioxide. So "WHY NOW" does VP Dick Cheney want cuts in climate testimony ?. Did something backfire here folks, about a FAST HD TV thing for 2009?. On both sides of the fence per se, as in a liberal controled House and Senate blocking everything for the past 3 years or more, and the Republican's that want a clear picture of thing's, plus this will create high paying job's?. I see a MAJOR COVERUP HERE folks, guess we'll all die faster now when the polls melt on both ends of Planet Earth and we all go under water. Is this how it's gonna be?. You tell me.
Wondering | 2:55 p.m. July 8, 2008
Perhaps someone can state the facts about why VP Cheney is an evil man. I have only been able to find statements that conclude that he is evil. Please set forth the facts for my edification.
Re: stupid LCD TV factoid | 3:35 p.m. July 8, 2008
LCD TVs don't have plasma or any other gas in them. Quit making yourself look like an idiot.

LCD stands for "Liquid Crystal Display". They are solid state, low voltage circuits, not charged gases (like Plazma TVs or the old fashioned monitor on your computer).

Just because something's HD, doesn't mean it's bad for the environment!

Just because you have one

Just because you don't know what your talking about

Just because it's true

Just because you are covering the truth up

Just because it's the truth

HD, doesn't means it's bad for the environment!
VP Cheney My Hero | 4:31 p.m. July 8, 2008
Halliburton's construction and engineering subsidiary has been paid nearly $1 billion through government contracts containing profit-guarantees, and various other contracts initiated since the company's former CEO arrived in the White House. Halliburton has built military bases in the former Soviet Union and Turkey, and it made $33 million building jail cells for terrorists at Camp X-Ray. (In all fairness, even these contracts don't make up for Cheney's major accomplishment as CEO, an acquisition which is expected to cost Halliburton upwards of $4 billion in asbestos liabilities.) Just before the Iraq war started, the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers awarded Halliburton an "emergency" contract for oil fields reconstruction, which was awarded without the usual government bidding process because of said "emergency" (and despite the fact that the invasion wasn't on any particular timetable and the fact it had been in the works for a year and a half).

When Richard Bruce Cheney was a student at Natrona County High School in Casper, Wyo., he was a solid football player, senior-class president and an above-average student. But he wasn't the star. That distinction belonged to Lynne Vincent, Cheney's girlfriend and future wife. Which is more evil: Paris Hilton or Dick Cheney? Cheney, because at least Paris Hilton likes dogs. Nov 1962 Dick Cheney arrested for drunk driving. 1963 Dick Cheney arrested for drunk driving, again. 1963 Drops out of Yale. Is he evil?.
Dick's a good man | 4:32 p.m. July 8, 2008
Bush settled on Cheney as Secretary of Defense, after his first choice, John Tower, self-destructed in a haze of alcoholic booty calls. Once the Gulf War was won, Cheney gutted the Defense Department, firing about a quarter of the military, cutting billions in spending and even scaling back his beloved "Star Wars" program. With nothing but insider Washington credentials on his resume, he became chairman and CEO of Halliburton Corp. in 1995. Cheney made millions leading the massive oil industry construction company, while carefully "tweaking" its accounting practices. A 1998 accounting change improved the company's revenues by $234 million over the course of four years.

Did you even read the article that we are commenting on? That would be a good start!
Blame the Dem's will ya? | 5:06 p.m. July 8, 2008
Congressional approval rating is now in single digits. US population gives 9% approval rating to Congress. The percentage of voters who give Congress good or excellent ratings has fallen to single digits for the first time in Rasmussen Reports tracking history. This month, just 9% say Congress is doing a good or excellent job. Most voters (52%) say Congress is doing a poor job, which ties the record high in that dubious category." Now, amidst all of this, with a 9% approval rating, an all-time low, the media template is still what? That the Democrats are going to pick up all these seats in the House and they're going to pick up all these seats in the Senate. It's a foregone conclusion. Now, if people are this upset with Congress, and the president's numbers are higher you know, this is a risky thing to try to analyze. You have to ask how many Americans understand that Congress is now run by Democrats? How many of them think that Congress is just an extension of the White House and are blaming it on Republicans?
wow | 7:17 p.m. July 8, 2008
Cheney wants the word to be told to the world in little pieces that fit his view of the universe.

It is good that we are getting rid of him in January, 2009. But, you know what? It can't happen fast enough!!!!!

The Bush-Cheney-GOP alliance will go down in history as a very lousy presidency and leadership circle. So sad........... but so true.
Re: wow | 8:30 p.m. July 8, 2008
We the people depend on accurate reporting.

Yours is not.
