West Valley code enforcers working to clean house

Come on this has nothing to do with image. It is just another way to get money without really earning it. I have yet to see this ordinance made into a law and voted on by the state legistlature. It is just the act of one lady who got away with too much when in office.

I have seen some of the most beautiful yards in West Valley cited because the officers do not know the difference between flowers and weeds.

This ordinance is invasive to a personal property.

The problem isn't just in West Valley City, they're just the only ones doing something about it. People are tired of seeing their property values hurt by having a property next door that nobody would want to live by. Hopefully these guys will actually accomplish something; we'll know better next year I geuss.

Something has to be done to reverse the trend, or the whole city will turn into a big ghetto. The city is changing, the only question is whether the change is good or bad. I appreciate the City attempting to make it good.

I don't see this as an invasion of personal property rights. I live between two houses that used to be well maintained. New owners, new problems, the one has broken windows (over a year now) mows part of the lawn once or twice in a year, forget the back lawn, the grapevines hide that from the street. The other one at least will have the lawn cut once in a while, but the flower beds, you can't see the flowers any more, the back yard, I wouldn't venture back there. If they were not willing to take care of yards or houses, they should have bought a condo or town home. I have tried assisting them, now they seem to want to leave it to me, this is a great time for West Valley to put some teeth into the problem. As a property owner in West Valley, I am very glad to see them take this step.

Most of the worst properties I see, are bank owned, foreclosed on properties. West Valley city gives these properties a free pass. No code inforcement for them. In these tough economic times, fixing up your yard takes time and resources. It seems WVC dosn't care about improvement or limited resources, just fines because it dosn't happen quick enough. fix up every property to perfection and WVC will still have its reputation for criminal activity. Its not about green park strips, its about solving and arresting crime and criminals. Instead of 5 new code enforcement officers for sprinkler violations, and harrass property owners, they should have hired real officers to solve real crime if they want to change their reputation.
