More violence by foreign nationals, and there is no cooperation with ICE by SLCPD. Another innocent life snuffed out because our politicians are too politically correct to address the problem...too sad for words.
words aren't enough | 8:36 p.m. July 6, 2008
I am so sorry this horrible thing happened to an innocent little girl. May the perps rot in hell, may her family have great peace.
Love the Death Penalty:) | 8:38 p.m. July 6, 2008
People ask why the death penalty is allowed? Are you kidding? A seven year old girl shot in the chest and killed and they get a TV, 3 square meals, educational opportunities oh yes and a "guilty" conscience the rest of their life??? Fry these thugs and make it hurt! Yes that is the answer because if you don't take action quickly and forcefully it sends the wrong message and you will end up with a Las Vegas on your hands. I live here I know.

What a terrible tragedy-the life of a precious child! Whoever shot her has no feelings for the sacredness of life! Being a grandmother and mother is one of the greatest joys and blessings to mankind! When one has their life cut short, it's something you NEVER forget! It's such a shame our world's youth join into gangs and kill for thrills! Where were their parents when they needed them?

Why do people keep jumping to conclusions that support their own biases? There is nothing in this article about foreign nationals. There is nothing to identify the people as being of any particular race or ethnicity. And even if there were, that would not mean that they were foreign. But even if they were foreign, that would not necessarily mean that they were illegal. I would certainly hate to ever have sky2work serve on any jury. She/he seems incapable of rational, critical thinking.

Where is the Department of Homeland "Security" when a child can't even play in her own yard?
Just Maybe? | 9:29 p.m. July 6, 2008
Just maybe our government will step in and do more to protect our rotting city, once something happens like this to one of their own children. As it stands now our politicians are just overweight elitists that care only about lobbyists and their own egos.

Poor little girl. She had so much to live for.

When I read stuff like this I think of Florida from Good Times with that punch bowl finally revealing her true feelings about James death. D_mn! D_mn! D_mn!
Domestic Terrorism... still not being addressed.

We are not 100% safe anywhere in this world. Where would we be without Jesus and our assurance of eternal life? We owe everything to Him !

A tragedy. I hold out the faint hope that once these guys find out what they've done, they'll "man up" and turn themselves in.

When a child is killed in such circumstances, only the death penalty will ensure that the killer will NEVER repeat this horrible offense. My heart goes out to the parents. May God bless them and the family.
Foreign nationals? | 9:41 p.m. July 6, 2008
Did I miss something here? This is certainly a tragedy, but I didn't see anything in the story to indicate that "foreign nationals" are to blame.

Animals.same animals will be talking about human rights ,once in prison.
To C.L. Nelson | 9:47 p.m. July 6, 2008
Their parents were either members of the gang themselves, at work 24/7, or a free-spirited parent. One that would rather be a friend to their child than their parent.
I'm all for the death penalty. Too bad they won't send sex abusers and the like to death row.

Wow! Councilman Van Turner said that Glendale is safe place to live. He needs to take off the blinders and help make this a safer community.

The Death Penalty IS A VERY GOOD PUNISHMENT IN THE RIGHT CIRCUMSTANCES, Stone he who has killed. He who has killed without doubt should recieve the DEATH PENALTY WITHOUT QUESTION for malicious murder or acts of this nature.
Problem Solving??? | 9:54 p.m. July 6, 2008
I have never understood how anyone could beleive that shooting into a home or into a crowd isn't going to cause more problems than is solves.
a tragedy | 10:05 p.m. July 6, 2008
I hope they are able to catch these criminals. Shooting an innocent child? Who are these cowards anyway? The article mentioned something about gang related. I wouldn't be surprised. This poor innocent 7-year old girl caught in the cross-fire of these cowardly deeds.
GoodGuyGary | 10:21 p.m. July 6, 2008
In the other countries where people are not allowed to arm themselves, this kind of tragedy rarely happened. Again, even this guy get caught, he will still "get a TV, 3 square meals, educational opportunities", not to mentioned life time free medical care. Only in America.
an innocent child | 10:22 p.m. July 6, 2008
A drive-by shooting. What did an innocent child do to these people? Nothing. Whoever the bullet was intended for, why did they have to shoot an innocent child?
Of course, these monsters and cowards could care less who they shoot. They hate themselves and everyone else. Everyone is their enemy. They have such hatred within their souls. How sad!
One day they shall get their just reward. I just hope it's on this earth because where they are going it will be worse.

It just happens the high percentage of gangs are hispanic, asian and pacific islanders and they all have a free ride here in America - politicians smile and keep the stiff upper lip as it isn't happening in their neighbourhoods so why care
re goodguygary | 11:16 p.m. July 6, 2008
this type of incident happens all over the world. Especially in countries where people aren't allowed to arm themselves. NO gun laws give these types of people the right to own guns. Extensive gun laws just give criminals with guns more power. The more armed honest hard working americans there are the safer I feel. I am glad I live in a state where I'm allowed to carry a concealed weapon and protect my family and my property. However the world can be an evil place and there isn't much that can be done to prevent thing like this happening. My heart goes out to the friends and family of this little girl.

Gang affiliation should earn someone a manditory nutering... that way at least they couldn't reproduce.
As for the rest of us...we should do everything we can to bring gang bangers to justice...testify in court, turn them in, cooperate with the police...whatever it takes. They are like a cancer to our society and they prey on our youth. They terrorise us. We should do all we can to stop them. We should do more for our youth to give them another out besides a stupid gang.

Drive by's are done by losers who are too afraid to confront their would be victims-- Friggin losers are nothing but a boil on the rear end of society...
Are the police looking for volunteers to find these jerks and work them over? Count me in....

Okay, how bout this for an idea. If the police know who the gang is, then arrest them all for the murder of this seven year old. Then any restitution should be had from the parents of these miscreants.
Death Penalty | 11:45 p.m. July 6, 2008
It's about time someone in this nation took a SEVERE stand against this type of crime. They may not have intended to kill that little girl, but they intended to kill someone. Each member in that car should die by firing squad. Such crimes would not be repeated if we SEVERLY punished those who commit such crimes. It's just ridiculous that this kind of crime is rampant in our nation where we have such intelligence, great technology, so many blessings, and we tolerate it - what is ever done? The convicted go to prison where they are head of a gang there. They get many priveleges, which should never happen. I say that capital punishment should be swift and immediate. This little girl died needlessly - we need to stop this kind of threat before it becomes just like LA and many of the surrounding communities that used to be just like Salt Lake. Not any more!!
fransiska | 12:23 a.m. July 7, 2008
crime is everywhere nowsaday.the best way is to abolish public guns ownerships.only policemen should have the right to posses guns.to the girl's family, pls be strong in this trying time.God be with you always.
Nasty combination | 12:56 a.m. July 7, 2008
A culture of violence breeds these kinds of actions: too many guns, glorification of violence on TV and movies, lack of parental direction and values in homes...how sad that a child is victimized in this way but sad that anyone has to die. All of us owning guns is not the answer (do you want your neighborhood to become a battle zone with people shooting randomly in all directions?).
arc | 1:24 a.m. July 7, 2008
The criminals always can get the guns. If they didn't have to worry about others having them to defend themselves, it would be worse. Washington DC tried that, and it didn't help.
Has anyone heard the name? I know several people at that location. It is pretty sad when you have to hope it isn't someone you know.

I know some people who have guns are good citizens, but the gun laws are too loose in America, there is no doubt about that. People feel safer to have guns is just like Iran feels safer to have nuclear weapon. If one day I see you holding a gun, how do I know you are good guy or not?
Also, this things don't happened all over the world, please admit it.

Things are only going to get worse as long as our Governor and Attorney General Mark Shurtleff are advocates for filling our suburbs with illegal aliens and Mexican gangs.
