How many games does BYU get on ABC???? ohhhh too bad cougars. at least you get to play a bottom feeding pac 10 team in washington that nobody in the country will care about.

GO UTES!!!
Re:Utes | 4:56 a.m. July 4, 2008
Hey, BYU will get to play their ABC game at the end of the year in the BCS game! Sorry you think you season opening game on ABC is a lot cooler. I can't blame you guys though. That's your bowl game.
Norge Coug | 5:05 a.m. July 4, 2008
How many games will BYU play on ABC? I guess that would depend on whether ABC happens to cover the BCS game BYU will be playing the first week of January.

Is that all you got?

Just one more reason you know the Cougs are back. Must suck not having won anything meaningful in the rivalry for the last two years.

I almost feel for you.
So. Cal Fan | 6:42 a.m. July 4, 2008
The bigger question is do they get to play on or after New Years Day? And we all know that Answer: NOT!!!!!!!!!!!! Fight On. Enjoy being on the outside looking in! Truth Hurts
Jacob | 7:11 a.m. July 4, 2008
Try saving your smack until AFTER Utah beats BYU in something meaningful. AFTER you defend the goal line as time expires, AFTER you stop a 4th and 18 down, AFTER something worth remembering. Yeah, you might want to wait a little bit, because talking smack to the team that's been smacking you around for the past few years doesn't make too much sense to me.
Provo Joe | 7:13 a.m. July 4, 2008
Yewts will get burned in the big house. just like at OSU last year. Brian Johnson will get injured and the yewts will struggle to get 7 or 8 wins. Yewts also lose to OSU at home, Wyoming on the road, Air Force on the road, New Mexico on the road, and they will lose to BYU at home. However, the Yewts will rebound and continue their bowl winning streak after beating a weak team from the WAC in the mighty New Mexico Bowl.
What a bunch of losers | 8:22 a.m. July 4, 2008
The game is on ABC. Why? Because Michigan is playing. Ute fans need to remember that this is a paycheck game for them. That is what major programs like Michigan do the first game of the season. They invite a team into their house that will be easy to beat. Last year they took a chance and lost to Appalachian St. This year they wanted to play it safe so they invited the Utes. By the way, this is another perfect example of Ute fan's strange obsession with BYU football. This article is about the Utes and yet Ute fans bring up BYU again. BYU could be playing Michigan on Aug. 30 but they don't have to. Northern Iowa is coming to Provo because that is what major programs do. Simple fact: Northern Iowa is to BYU what Utah is to Michigan but keep bragging about playing on ABC.
Good | 8:44 a.m. July 4, 2008
Now yoot fans can count down to the exact minute that their first loss of the season will start. Better get your excuses ready yoot fans. Here, let me help you: "They just got lucky. Again!!" "The refs helped them!" "All our best players were injured!" "We're still the better team!" "The sun got in our eyes!" "It was the altitude from the lake effect!" And this one for later in the year: "If we played them now we could beat them!"

Have fun.
To all delusional BYU fans... | 8:45 a.m. July 4, 2008
You can forget about that BCS game in January on ABC. It ain't going to happen for a couple reasons. First, if most of you actually followed college football outside the borders of happy valley, you'd realize that FOX now covers most of the BCS games except the Rose Bowl (sorry guys, as delusional as many of you are even you have to admit BYU has no chance at the Rose).

Seoondly, talk of a BCS game is pointless anyway. BYU isn't going undefeated. I predict at least two losses (UCLA or Washington & Utah) and a Poinsettia Bowl appearance. Back to reality...
So. Cal Fan | 8:52 a.m. July 4, 2008
Careful prove jose, remember the last time your boys played a weak team from your so called weak conference, BOISE STATE!!! How about the time you thought Nevada was so week you could fly in on game day. Or the time your lawyers were trying to find a way to get you into the BCS and you played Hawai'i. Atleast their championship bowl game is after Christmas! Big Fish in little pound. Keep listening to the salt lake media tell you how great you are, because they are the only media outlets who will.
Hey BYU fans... | 8:57 a.m. July 4, 2008
Just curious. What about a one point, botched FG attempt which allowed you to win your bowl game against the 5th place PAC-10 team (missing their top 2 QB's, RB's, etc.) makes you think your team is poised for a BCS run this year?

I would suggest to most of you that BYU better be signficantly improved this year or else all this talk of the BCS is going to be put to rest very early against more middle of the pack PAC-10 competition.

Some things just never change. A couple good seasons and BYU fans and their delusions of grandeaur reemerge from the closet. Thankfully the Lord has a way of humbling those whose pride and arrogance has grown to large proportions. I predict that humbling experience will take place at the UCLA and/or Washington games and continue against TCU and/or Utah. Reality check time folks.

A small article about the Utes getting a national TV game and BYU fans are coming out of the woodwork and flying off the handle to try to malign and belittle their rivals. Kind of sad, really.

I find it quite amusing some BYU fans accuse Utah of "little brother" syndrome given what I'm reading here.
Michigan fan | 9:06 a.m. July 4, 2008
It will be funny to see the Yewts get embarrassed on national tv and their BCS hopes will go down the drain. Michigan 41- Yewts 10
ocutes | 9:10 a.m. July 4, 2008
BYU is not going to BCS bowls.
Not this year. Not next year.
Keetch | 9:13 a.m. July 4, 2008
See. That is byu fans problems. THEY THINK THEY KNOW EVERYTHING. The thing is the Utes are good, better than byu fans think. The Utah Michigan game will be a good, hard fought game, with the winner deserving the victory, and that winner could very easily be Utah.
So. Cal Coug | 9:14 a.m. July 4, 2008
While we all dislike the u (Never capitalize a reference to the largest community college in SLC) let’s wish them well for the good of the conference. I hope the guy’s in red take to Michigan.
Hey anonymous 9:01 a.m. | 9:15 a.m. July 4, 2008
It was Ute fans that brought up BYU just like you are doing. Remember the BLOCKED field goal in the Las Vegas Bowl to complete another 11-2 season? That was done in a rebuilding year.
Go Blue! | 10:03 a.m. July 4, 2008
As a Wolverine fan that will be at the season opener I can say there is no way UM is going to lose to Utah. UM will be extra motivated to avoid losing another home opener. Rodriquez will be running a new offense and he is one of the best coaches in the country. While it's true UM lost a lot of players to the NFL (Long, Hart, Henne, Manningham to name a few) Michigan is so deep in talent that even their third stringers were 3 and 4 star recruits out of high school. Michigan is stronger, bigger, more athletic and more physical. The tradition criticism of Big Ten football has been the lack of offensive creativity and that will change with Coach Rod. The only thing I'm concerned about (and it's a big concern) is the quarterback position. Utah is a decent team but that means Michigan isn't going to overlook them like they did App State. If Michigan shows up they will win. Hail to the victors.
Gotta love a rivalry! | 10:12 a.m. July 4, 2008
The only new information we got from this story is that we now know what time we will be playing our season opener. We already knew we are playing that day in Ann Arbor, just not what time we are playing. From a story that really didn't need to be put online, we have the smack talk starting! I love it!

For my part: Bronco talks big and has delivered big so far, but the wheel doesn't stop turning. This is BYU's year to disappoint. I know that the Cougs think that if they do what is right on and off the field they are entitled to something. Sorry, folks, it doesn't work that way.
socal coug | 10:33 a.m. July 4, 2008
Hey People. Let's stick to the topic. This is U of U-Michigan. ABC. Opening weekend. I for one think that Utah surprises Michigan and beats them. Utah is sound. If Johnson plays anywhere near his sophmore season Michigan won't know what him em. Utah will do themselves and the MWC proud.
Bench Mark | 11:20 a.m. July 4, 2008
The only way for BYU to meaningfully make progress is to go 12 and 1.

Just Win Baby, Just Win!

Beating up on third rate conference foes as well as lower tier non-conference opponents means nothing unless the kittens can pull it off with omly one loss.

GOOD LUCK!
BYU Fans | 11:27 a.m. July 4, 2008
Were a lot more endearing during the recent 8-10 years when they stunk at everything. U. Fans are never endearing.

Michigan 24 Utah 14
Washington 28 BYU 24
Cougar Fan | 11:34 a.m. July 4, 2008
Fellow Cougar Fans, let's calm down just a bit. There is no way we are going undefeated this year, we have just too many holes to replace on defense. If you look at the yewts 2004 run they had a great offense, but also a great defense. We will probably only lose 2 games this year (1 non conference(Wash or UCLA) and 1 conference (either TCU or Utah)), but all the talk of a guarenteed BCS year is just crazy.
And as far as Utah and Michigan game is concerned, it will be a competitive game. Utah will have a solid team this year, and the MWC title could very well come down to the game at RES at the end of the year.
re:oc utes | 11:45 a.m. July 4, 2008
Your Ute "no BCS prognostications get old".

In 1984 you did not need a top 6 ranking to play BCS for the National Title, you needed #1, something Utah even failed to do under coach Meyer.

BYU was the Number 1 ranked team in the country. See, National Title.

If either Utah or BYU gets ranked #1 at the end of this season, they will possibly play for a National Title.

The only reason the Utes are BCS busters, is that there was a BCS at the time. If they did not have a BCS in the "Urban Legend year", Utah would have played for a prestigous bowl, and not have it called a BCS Bowl, hence, they would not be "BCS BUSTERS".

If the BCS was around back in the late 70's throughh the 80's, BYU would have busted the BCS many times.

There is really only one solid program in the state, and the rest are just wanna-bes. BYU.

Hey, Utah, score against UNLV, be ranked at the end of the season, and then you can sit at the adult table.

I just wish the LBUNS would take off those rose colored glasses, and respect the better program.
Seattle | 11:50 a.m. July 4, 2008
I second the motion to stop talking about a BCS game as if it is definitly going to happen. That is not a possibility until the end of the season.

This article is about Utah and Michigan. I think it is an interesting game. Utah catches Michigan in the first year of a new coach and offensive philosophy. Michigan has no established quarterback. Michigan wont be the Michigan you are used to. Will Utah benefit from that? I expect it will be very close and Utah could benefit from all of this and get a win.

Make comments about the facts and leave the smack for November.
Start Time? | 11:52 a.m. July 4, 2008
Wow, big story.

Did anyone get the start time of the Utah/UNLV game.

I just want to set my DVR now for the two games that are locked in which Utah won't score.

I hope they washed the jerseys for the Ute defense after the UNLV game last year. There was all of that white chalk on their backs from where they mark the endzone lines.
Kewger crybaby | 12:00 p.m. July 4, 2008
Kewgers will play on ABC, just has they have the last 10 years....oh wait a minute they haven't been to the BCS. HA HA HA HA. Your 1984 championship is tainted, you played a mediocre Michigan team. You played the softest schedule in the country and happened to go undefeated...something 100 othr teams could have done. You might as well give the championship trophy two years ago to Boise State for accomplishing the same thing.
BYU Wolverine fan | 12:07 p.m. July 4, 2008
GO MICHIGAN!!!!! Rip Utah to shreds!
Bronco | 12:10 p.m. July 4, 2008
When was the last time Bronco won a road non conference game during the regular season?
re:Cougar fan | 12:10 p.m. July 4, 2008
I hope you are right. I have been looking for the conference title game to be decided at the last game of the year.

It's just that after the Utes have had those mid-seasons meltdown, and have never come through. I just get sort of tired of them disappointing us.
Brettski in CA | 1:19 p.m. July 4, 2008
Excited to see what the Utes can do in Michigan. It'll be sweet if they can pull that out. BYU fans need to stick to their 30 articles that are written about them by the DNews every day.

You claim Utah fans are obsessed with you but the first few comments on this page were dominated by BYU fans going off the handle.

Go Utes!
Utes will win if . . . . . | 2:19 p.m. July 4, 2008
Utah will beat Michigan if they can get a few scores early.

With how poorly the UM QB's performed in the spring, I expect Michigan to try and play power football against the Utes. They will try to shorten the game by pounding the ball up the middle all day. If Utah gets the lead early, Michigan won't be able to do this and their awful QBs will have to throw the ball which will result in a lot of Turnovers.

Utah 34
Michigan 10
It's Funny | 3:05 p.m. July 4, 2008
Utah's toughest game on the schedule is likely the Michigan game.

BYU's toughest game on the schedule is a toss-up between TCU and Utah.

If Utah were to lose to Michigan and then win the rest of their games, it would probably be enough for them to get into the BCS.

If BYU were to lose either one of their two toughest games, it would be too late in the season for them to recover in the rankings and still get a BCS birth.

Have fun against Northern Iowa. Let us know if that 'dumbing down the schedule' tactic works out for you.

p.s. There were over 20 D1 teams with openings that matched BYU's when Nevada backed out, so don't try to tell us that Northern Iowa was the best you could do.
re:Utes will win if.... | 3:19 p.m. July 4, 2008
34-10???

Ute mentality at work again, talking about what they are going to do, then making apologies about what happened.

You are playing at Michigan. Michigan is preparing with a new head coach, and something to prove. Michigan is not going to sleepwalk through the game (UCLA at RES).

Utah is not as good as Appalachian State. The Mountaineers enter next season as the three-time defending champs in Division I's Football Championship Subdivision. Appalachian State safety Corey Lynch blocked the Wolverines' game-winning field goal attempt on the final play, (yet, you diminsh the Vegas Bowl which also ended with a blocked field goal).

The Utes enter this season defending their third place finish in the MWC (conference record 5-3) and an ipressive 35-32 win against ("powerhouse?") Navy in the Poinsettia Bowl.

Before predicting a win, let alone 34-10, let's hope that the Utes can put together a gameplan that doesn't include a shutout (see UNLV), and leaves them healthy enough to compete in the MWC (Kyles goal is to win conference).

Earth to Ute Fans. Isn't it time for you to do something "moneytime" on the field or basketball court before you start spouting off?

It's sort of annoying.
App State vs. BYU | 5:13 p.m. July 4, 2008
Are you kidding?! Comparing App. St. blocking a field goal to beat Michigan with BYU blocking a field goal to beat UCLA?!?!

App. St. was a HUGE underdog and needed a miracle to beat one of the best programs in the country.

BYU was a HUGE favorite and needed a miracle to beat one of the worst teams to get a bowl bid in '07. Didn't UCLA finish with a losing record?(6-7)

That Vegas Bowl proved exactly what BYU will be this year. A decent team that will have a big year IF they get ALL OF THE BREAKS. OR, a decent team that will have a decent year if they only get a few breaks.

BYU will be one of the most dissappointing teams in college football this year. From back-to-back 11-2 seasons to 8-5 or worse.

Have fun in Albuquerque BYU fans.

Utah - Vegas Bowl
New Mexico - Poinsettia Bowl
TCU - Armed Forces Bowl
BYU - New Mexico Bowl(If Nevada is the opponent, I hope BronKo is smart enough to fly in BEFORE gameday)
20 D1 teams? | 5:17 p.m. July 4, 2008
First of all that is not true. Second of all, not every D1 team sells out for a paycheck like the Utes. No D1 team in their right mind is going to come to another team's stadium for the first game of the season without a return game scheduled. (Except the Utes). Third, BYU's schedule is just as strong as Utah's. You keep forgetting about Weber St. It is about schedule balance but why are we talking about this. This article was about the Utes I thought. $$$$$$ Cash your check, do it again against Notre Dame, and keep bragging about playing on national television.
20 D1 teams | 5:33 p.m. July 4, 2008
Yeah, it's a FACT. As soon as Nevada backed out, I looked up teams with openings that matched BYU's because I KNEW they were going to schedule a D1AA and say they couldn't find anyone else.

Who says it would have to be a one and done? BYU has openings in the future. Why not schedule Rutgers to come here now and then play in NJ in a couple of years? Oh yeah, Rutgers is actually GOOD now, so that wouldn't fall in line with the "Scheduling Down" that BronKo talked about back in December.
re:App State vs. BYU | 5:40 p.m. July 4, 2008
Yep, that's my post.

Actually, the "point" was a win is a win, even if it's a blocked field goal.

UCLA had everything to prove in the Vegas Bowl, and was manhandled by BYU. The bone-headed call by Anae, and UCLA's last drive were huge for UCLA, and BYU returned with a huge play to win. UCLA was the more athletic team playing for the coach, seniors and dignity. They were looking past Utah, and not BYU in Vegas.

Sure, Appalachian State was a huge underdog, and Michigan looked past them. Appalachian State is a three-time defending champ in Division I's Football Championship Subdivision, and a better team than the third place MWC finishers, Utah. Michigan is not looking past their opener, which means Utah is in for a world of hurt.

Utah will not win 34-10. It's idiotic to think Utah would be anything but lucky to keep within three touchdowns of Michigan.

I'll be pulling for the red team, but my hope is that Utah doesn't come out of Ann Arbor without too many players hurt, and I am positive that Kyle will play to keep his players healthy.

Utah needs to stay healthy, I'm tired of excuses.
Utah will win... | 5:54 p.m. July 4, 2008
if Michigan doesn't show up at the Big House. Has the time been set for Utah's challenging game with Weber State. Now that one will be close.
National TV | 6:12 p.m. July 4, 2008
Wait, BYU has played on National TV many times, and they don't print a newspaper article about it.

Why not? Are they biased?

I guess it's just not a big thing for BYU to get national attention.

As far a Utah, do you think they are on TV because it's "Utah", or is it Michigan.

Why didn't Utah schedule Michigan for a home and home series? Oh, wait, they are one of those warm-up-teams-for-the-money teams.

And BYU's 20 D-1 opponents availibility??? How many of those teams want to come in and get smoked by a top 20 team. I sure there were many "NO!!!" responses before they found their team to grab a check.

Utah is going to be embarassed on National TV.

If you think UNLV is good, wait till your boys suit up against Michigan. It's going to be crazy ugly for your boys.

I just can't believe that there is even a conversation that Utah belongs in the same stadium as Michigan.
Utah/BYU | 6:18 p.m. July 4, 2008
BYU is a major program that has weak teams come to their stadium first game of the season for a paycheck and allow BYU to tune up and open with a W.

Utah is the team that travels to play a major program for a paycheck and open with the L.

This comment board is the only place in the world that Ute fans can post and be taken seriously, because of the other Utah fans.

Anywhere else in the country, they would be considered lunitics.
Kool Aid | 6:32 p.m. July 4, 2008
You dumb Utes....

Don't you know that B.Y.U. won a NATIONAL CHAMPIONSHIP in 1984?

A CHAMPIONSHIP.... A CHAMPIONSHIP....
A CHAMPIONSHIP....

How many times do we have to remind you?

Don't you understand that our N.A.T.I.O.N.A.L. C.H.A.M.P.I.O.N.S.H.I.P. makes any further discussion of which team is better, or which team will have the better season this year TOTALLY irrelevant?

We have relevance, we won a N.A.T.I.O.N.A.L. C.H.A.M.P.I.O.N.S.H.I.P.
Re: Kool Aid | 9:31 p.m. July 4, 2008
I really hope you're being sarcastic.

BYU never won a national championship, they were voted national champions. There is a huge difference.
1984 | 11:13 p.m. July 4, 2008
Oh ya, I remember now. They beat UTEP and Bo Diddly Tech.
You can thank.... | 11:19 p.m. July 4, 2008
PITT for your largely asterisked "MYTHICAL" N.C. Hugely overrated to begin the season and where did PITT end up that year? It certainly wasn't because they won it on the field (i.e., Oklahoma would have won it in less than a quarter versus you meowers that year). Enough said about that. I'm still laughing at the above kitty commentary. BCS bowl, manhandled UCLA in the Vegas bowl, etc. LOL!! Didn't UNLV come into provo not too long ago and beat you kittens? Talk about insecurity and being obsessed w/Utah athletics. LOL!!
re:1984 | 12:32 a.m. July 5, 2008
Dude, I saw Bo Diddley play about 10 years ago at the House of Blues on Sunset in LA. Unlike Bryant Gumball, or you, Bo was the MAN.

Bringing up Bo Diddley is not only so 1980's of your weak smack, but it's a compliment. See, BYU gets it. Utah fans don't. Its what you DO, not what you say. Doak Walker, Outland, Heisman, NC, two straight MWC.

Utah, a "MYTHICAL" Bowl Buster nothing.

How is having a Trophy in the Trophy Case "MYTHICAL"? ("BCS Buster", where do I go to see that trophy? Now that is "MYTHICAL"). And you beat 20th-ranked Pittsburgh in the Fiesta Bowl. What a huge impact on college sports. What did Utah win on the field.

We're #6!!! We're #6!!!???

"LOL!!!"

You embarass yourselves.
Wow | 12:53 a.m. July 5, 2008
All these comments about a start time.

Seems a lot of Utah fans are in a hurry to see their team get waxed on national TV.
Losers | 8:33 a.m. July 5, 2008
You poor little pathetic losers who try and claim BYU's national championship as "mythical" need to get a life. That was 24 years ago. It's in the books, the trophy is in the case, and it can never be taken away. In the mean time BYU will continue to win MWC championships and they will bust the BCS eventually. It might not be this year but it will happen and then what will Ute fans have to brag about? I'm a Ute alum but I don't go to games anymore because Ute fans are so obsessed with everything BYU does. Worry about your own team and not what BYU did 24 years ago.
re: re:1984 | 12:32 a.m. | 10:23 a.m. July 5, 2008
"See, BYU gets it. Utah fans don't."

Actually, it's the other way around. BYU's "NC" trophy, back in '84, will always carry an asterick. All BYU had to do to obtain it was remain the only undefeated team at the end of the year. By those standards, the Utes would have won a share of the 2004 National Champion title, and Boise St. a share of the one in 2006.

It's easy to be undefeated at the end of the year when playing a SOFT schedule. When the only ranked team you played that year - #3 Pitt - was simply an overrated preseason standing based on prior years' successes. That Panther team had only won 3 games all season. Furthermore, 38.5% of the '84 season's games were won by a TD or less (including a 3-7-1 Pitt, a 6-5 Michigan, and WAC "powerhouses" Hawai'i, Wyoming, and Air Force). That pct goes up to 46.2% if you count games w/in 10 pts. Nobody is impressed the '84 Cougs beat Baylor and Tulsa.

BYU's last Doak Walker and Heisman winners were both NFL busts. Good thing those men played weak schedules in order to pad their stats.
