Mediocrity League Soccer, with nine points separating first-place Los Angeles from last-place San Jose, that's what we get to ENJOY here in Utah. Man, are we lucky or what? I'm just very disappointed that Real Salt Lake (and any other team in Minor League Soccer) just don't seem to be able to play "real" football . Well, I guess they play real amateur football, but they don't really do that very well either. Unless of course you like to watch poor ball handling, lousy tactics and a defense that looks lost.

Its too bad that economic realities here in the US mean that the nations top athletes go into the NBA and NFL, which leaves the scrubs to play soccer.

Futbol is the most played sport in the world. Don't knock it, just because you may not be physically fit enough to enjoy the sport. Get off the couch on sundays, ditch the beer and chips, try your "foot" at a real sport. You just might like it "Sam I am".

Also take a look at what tax dollars are being used, it is derived from the TRT tax generated from TOURIST visiting the state! NOT FROM YOUR POCKET! And then you have those who doubtfully read the article, but just write some ignorant garbage about how football is the only true sport. Do you feel threatened by soccer? I guess I can almost understand the distain about the soccer stadium, but I don't understand the hate.

Utefan complaining about a sport franchise being run by taxes while devotedly supporting his beloved utes... a franchise (and don't try to tell me that college football isn't about winning and making money. Why else would they institute the bowl "championship" series and all the other bowl games?) run completely by tax dollars.

Guys I am so excited about going to my first RSL game. I don't know the rules very well yet. Can somebody tell me what the "off-side" rule means? See ya there and GO RSL.

BYU has mens and womens soccer teams. Are you a Cougar Fan? If so, you probably should support the BYU soccer teams. Maybe you only support BYU throwball.... how lame that would make you. support all BYU sports or none. I don't like lukewarm fans rooting for BYU.

I am a real Cougar Fan, and love all things BYU, especially BYU soccer.

I will admit that BYU will not go the entire season undefeated, but it will be a fun season (I hope they prove me wrong). RSL is fun to watch this year. Look for Morales to have a big game tonight. MLS has quality & fun soccer to watch. It isn't the EPL, but it is still fun. I think the MLS is underrated. I believe in 10 years the MLS will be considered a top 5 league in the world. The next generation of kids follow soccer a lot more than my generation ever did. GO RSL!!! Take the conference lead for a couple of days.

People, you do realize that because of the MLS playing on the off season of every european season the Dr is going to be a little tired.
This is supposed to be his break time, not the beginning of another season. The fact that he can still go (remember how becks had chronic injury when he came) is a testament to him.

How come Cougar fans are the most annoying people on this earth? I'm not to say ing I haven't met any annoying Utes, or Aggies, or ReAL fans, etc. But BYU fans take the title for most annoying fans in sports.

That's when the ball is passed to someone who is ahead of everyone on the defense. If they beat them after the pass is made it is fine but if they are ahead before the pass that is offsides

This will be the 3rd year I've gone to this game. The last 2 were actually on the 4th of July. I really hope this year turns out better. If we lose in the last 5 minutes of the game again I am gonna go on the field and play on the back line. Word of advice if we're ahead and the game is almost over let's copy Spain's national team and keep the ball off our half of the pitch. It's really not that hard.

While I am a huge Spain fan. They were so shaky the last 10 minutes in the final. Missing passes, headers. Germany all but scored. Instead I say we copy Spain and attack, attack, attack. Please don't bunker.

I completely agree with the Doctor comment. If we lure a guy who scores a ton of goals over here and then aren't able to find people to service him the ball- then we made a poor decision. We need to get true wingers in this upcoming transfer window. We could break out of the pack when that happens with the west for the taking and a new stadium - how sweet that would be!

Ladies, Ladies, we need to stop all this Football vs. Futebol bullcrap and get back to the subject at hand. I think the point of this comment thread is to figure out ways that RSL can be better, even if it's painful.

Anti-soccer people: we welcome your criticisms, if they are valid. But railing on a team for an issue that has been torn apart time and time again (i.e. the Stadium funding) is not one of them.

Anyways, let's start with a way RSL can improve: dump Cutler, teach Dema to slow down (not get into the card position), and rally with the rest of the MLS to bring REAL OFFICIALS (i.e. British imports) to the league. That would be a great start!

Major RSL fan here. I predict we lose because Culter gets the start. This guy may be an OK sub sometimes, but as in KC, he can really blow it.

Nobody seems to be saying that RSL is likely to be in 5th place or tied with Colorado in 5th place after the weekend.

Believe it. sorry everyone, but this one isn't going to be good for us. After this weekend, we are only likely to win 1 or 2 of the next 6, and maybe 3 in the next 12. Our run is over, and we will be back to 6th or 7th place.

Most of the time, I would be willing to back up your prediction. This time, I'm close to willing, except for one thing: Houston is not the same Dynam-ic team that won two MLS Cups. Whether by injury, suspensions, or just poor substitutions, the Texas squad hasn't quite been perfect this year.

And, RSL really has been pretty good at home. Their only bad game was last week against San Jose, who came out with a stick up the .... noses.

That being said, do I picture fame and glory following an RSL win? Not so sure.

Prediction: RSL 1-1 Houston.

Robbie Findley has a good game, assisted by Morales or Beckerman, while Dr. Goals picks up a yellow card and K.C. shows Kreis he isn't worth the time or roster slot to be on the team.

I agree with everyone that RSL will lose because of Cutler being in the starting line-up. After him being here for several years, he has done nothing? Give another guy a chance to prove his worth to the team. I do predict RSL to barely make the playoffs this year. Please prove all of us wrong RSL. I hate being right in these circumstances.

Soccer is a fine athletic event, which commands the same respect as similar sports, such as gardening, golf, and dog shows.

If the ReAL (REaL? ReaL?) leadership were truly clever, they would create the ultimate event by letting a dog show break out in the middle of one of their matches.
