This article incorrectly states that Utah does not get the Evening Grosbeak and fails to list that we also have the Downy Woodpecker. I see both regularly in my neck of the woods. (Ogden Valley)

It took moving to Missouri and falling in love with photography to enjoy birds. There is such a wonderful array of colors and birds in Missouri, the one we enjoy the most is the eagle. The other day I went to photograph the flood waters nearby, and got an eagle with a huge fish in his claws. The picture isn't all that great, plan to get a larger lens with our tax rebate.

If you study bird to see that habitat in valuable. You study and find many species are in decline. If you grew up hearing about the canary in a coal mine you wonder about the fate we are leaving for other generations.

I think it's great that we as "birders" get some attention, because it's the birds that really get the benefit. We also hope that many of the young birders will take an interest enjoying the wide variety of birds Utah enjoys. By the way Northern Cardinals are rare in Utah, but can be enjoyed in Arizona. Pretty funny they would choose that dry country over our beautiful Utah. Have fun, go out and identify some birds.
