I would rather not be awake at this time, but since I am I will break the ice. When I saw Maggette opt out I wondered if the Jazz would make play for him. I hope they do, and they certainly have players available to trade at the 2-3 spot. I like Maggette, I think he is tough, a solid enough shooter, and someone who will help the Jazz win now.

Man if the jazz could land Corey, that would be great. I would love to see him in a Jazz uniform. But I doubt he'll come. A lot of stars in the NBA don't really think Utah is a place they could see themselves. Im just hoping they would trade him for ak47. But we'll see.

O'Connor's blowing smoke to impress the fans. No way in H-E-double hockey sticks Maggette ends up wearing a Jazz uni. If he does, Jazz can beat the Lakers.

I think a well balanced starting 5, with some youth & experience on the bench , Millsap, Kosta, Korver, Harpring, CJ & a Point guard- the rest in training or trade.

No huge up grade needed it seems like every summer we talk about Maggette. I'm sorry but I don't see how that is an upgrade especially when our young guys are just as talented and younger too. I hope we get to see what an extra year can do for this team.

The Jazz as currently rostered have two problems. (1)They lack enough team defense, and (2) they lack offensive consistency at small forward and shooting guard when teams like LA and SA focus on Boozer.

Maggette would help on problem 2 but do little for problem 1. However, if Maggette goes to SA that really does not help the Jazz.

The Jazz need to quit worrying about signing/drafting more scorers. Weren't the Jazz one of the highest scoring teams in the league last year? Same old song and dance, but the problem as everybody knows (or should know) lies with defense. Focus on signing a guy who plays defense first. I think Diop would add to the interior D and help a lot. We need centers that stay in the paint to grab boards, block shots, and get easy layups/dunks. Scoring more points is only effective if you are able to make regular stops on the defensive end.

Maggette already signed an offer sheet to come to the Jazz 5 years ago. He doesn't seem to have the same concerns about playing in Utah that you alluded to.

with Maggette for a long time. I think it would be a very nice addition to the team, but lets be honest. Utah doesn't have enough money to throw at him with all their current players. Utah would probably have to work out some sort of trade involving AK and I don't know if that's something they are willing to do.

Jimmy thinks that the Jazz are a longshot here unless they can convince LA to do a sign and trade that still leaves them enough room to sign Boom Dizzle and Brand. Absent a 3-team deal nothing seems likely.

If he settles for the MLE he ends up in Miami or Orlando.

Maggette would be an upgrade over Brewer at 2 and/or AK at 3, but it's doubtful we get him. AK is the only guy I could see us trading that makes over $2.5 a year, and the Clippers won't want to take him. Maggette would be a great fit if he would come to us for the full midlevel exception for 4-5 years, but I doubt he will since he can get more money.

The first priority is TRADE AK to anyone who will take him. He needs to be traded for an expiring contract or to a team with cap space who sends us back a much lesser contract. Trade AK for Wally Szczerbiak and his expiring contract. Or we could get really creative and do the following sign-and-trade deal:

Clippers get Al Harrington
Golden State gets Kirilenko
Utah gets Maggette (after signing long term deal)

That would be a good deal for all 3 teams.

A lot of these trades that people have proposed won't work out financially. The finances have to be about even on both sides of the trade for the next season. The only way we get Maggette for AK is if Maggette signs a max contract with the Clippers, and that's less likely to happen than us being able to trade AK because the clippers just gave a lot of money to Baron Davis and will give a lot of money to Elton Brand. Sure, those trades brought up will benefit the Jazz, but they just don't work under NBA regulations.

Guys if we want an offensive SG who can't defend anyone why don't we just bring Almond up. Because that is what Maggette is, he is a SG who can't defend.

Jenny has read everyone hashing over what Magette could bring to the Jazz. But has anyone thought about what the Jazz could bring to Magette?

Jenny can't imagine Magette would choose to live in Utah over a place like Boston or Miami. Whether the stigma about Utah is true or not, there's definitely a perception in some circles in the NBA that you don't want to live in Utah.

The only way the Jazz land Magette is by offering him substantially more money than any of those other teams.

I find it highly comical when O'Connor comes out and says that they are going to be aggressive in the free agency market. He said the same last year when he resigned Collins and picked up Hart and Price.
Price has turned into a great pickup but at that time he was an unknown commodity.
I would dare go out on a limb and say that the dynamics of this team are not going to change this summer. Jazz Brass have never been aggressive when it comes to getting people who could push the team to the next level. Don't believe me then tell me who they signed while Stockton and Malone were here to help push them to the next level and don't say Hornacek because he was a mid-season acquisition.

All of you guys who keep pushing for a Kirilenko trade are crazy. I live in Los Angeles and have seen plenty of Maggette's games in person. He is active on the offensive end, but stops playing if he thinks he's not getting enough touches. Why do you think Dunleavy doesn't like him? Dunleavy would make a Kirilenko for Maggette trade without thinking twice. Let AK play full time at PF and trade Boozer for Biedrins. I think Boozer is a great player, but I'm also realistic and don't think he plans to stay in Utah--and he's definitely not worth a 20 million price tag next year. Brewer improved a ton last year, and I bet Almond will do the same if he is given any playing time. As for Collins and Hart--both great guys who should be playing Europe.

I give the Jazz a 50-50 chance at landing Magette. There are a couple things that make me a little optimistic. 1) He signed with us once before when the team wasn't nearly as good. 2) We are a serious contender now. 3) Who wouldn't want to play alongside D-Will?

I'd like to see the Jazz work out a sign-and-trade deal so we can unload a little cap room and relieve the logjam at the 2 and 3 spots.

What do other teams have that win championships and the Jazz once had? Three starters who are capable of taking over a game. Stockton and Malone could not get there until Hornacek came. Spurs have Duncan, Ginobli, and Parker. Celtics have Garnett, Pierce and Allen. Detroit has Billups, Hamilton, Prince and Wallace. Some teams have two strong players that can take over and make there teammates better. LA had Shaq, Kobe and Miami had Wade and Shaq and Jordan and Pippen. All mentioned above were previous world champions.

Jazz have one person who can take over a game right now and that is Dwill. Boozer, AK, Memo, all depend on Dwill to create for them. They are not capable of taking over a game on there own skills or merits. Jazz have got to get some relief for Dwill. Dwill was worn out by the end of the season and specially in the playoffs. Maggette would be great. He is capable of taking over especially if you are a guard scoring 20+ points a night. Common Jazz Brass you will run Dwill down and out of here unless you can get him some relief.

I'm sure the Jazz were thinking, "hey we may be able to get this guy for mid-level exception money!" so they had to at least try. the reality is that it probably won't happen though.

I think the Jazz need to let Magget go, because it's never going to happen, and be aggeressive after Diop. Offering him the full mid-level exception is a little much, but for the Jazz I think it would be worth it.

Simply put: the Jazz need Corey Maggette. He is one of the most athletic players in the league and he is capable of defending premier shooting guards/small forwards. Jazz only have one player (Williams) who you can give the ball to in crunch time and say "make a play." With Maggette you would have two. He is a proven all star quality scorer who can get to the hole/free throw line whenever he wants. Can't lay off of him like the Lakers did to Brewer. It's a no brainer. Jazz should do everything they can to land him.

Williams/Maggette/Boozer is as good as any big three in the West. Add in Utah's bench depth and you have a team that is every bit as good as the Lakers.

And as far as him not wanting to come here, we've already signed him to a deal before and he has gone on record saying he would love to play here and would love to play for Sloan.

Signing Maggette is the kind of move that turns really good teams into NBA finalists. Just ask the Lakers.

Magette wants to be a winner. The Jazz are a winning team. There are lots of people that gave up a little to go play for the celtics, because they wanted to win. Magette will pick a team that makes the playoffs. The Jazz have enough scoring we need D-Fence

Why in the heck would you resign Hart if you have too many players on your team right now. Larry/Kevin, if you want to give away three or four million, give it to me. I did more for the Jazz this year that Hart did.

Magette, despite being the object of Larry Miller's pursuit for yrs, is not a good player to have in the locker room. He is a skilled offensive player who coasts on defense and needs touches in a game. That is not the type player that Jerry Sloan wants.

My favorite Magette story was told by Doc Rivers...while a player with the Orlando Magic, Cory missed a game...because he had a bad pedicure...lol.

With Brewer, KK, AK and CJ, the Jazz have the 3 and 2 covered until the Mo Almond develops. Anyone who has seen him play will see he is the future, with his shooting, his strong body with defense, and his team play.

Sometimes I wonder about the clueless Jazz fans. All the talk of this defense that you want is inside defense.....a center. Almost every NBA team wants the same. Aside from getting that, how can some say to forget Maggette? Getting him would make the Jazz the favorite to win the title next year, period! Also, the talk that players dont want to play in Salt Lake is so stupid. Players want to play where they can make money and win a title. Signing free agents has much less to do with playing in SLC than what $$ the Jazz can offer.

Having said that, I doubt that the Jazz can land Maggette unless they can trade AK.

We need Maggette here, Brewer is good, but the teams that win it all have a dynamic 2 guard. I don't understand resigning CJ Miles, the Jazz need a better 2 gueard. With Maggette we could start Dwill, Maggette, AK, Boozer, and Memo. If he is considering the Mid level, we wouldn't have to trade or get rid of much to offer him more than that. I hope the Jazz quit being complaisant and get aggressive in giving us a Championship caliber team.

As a matter of information, Hart had a player option. He, of course, used it, much to the Jazz's chagrin. That is why he will be back in a Jazz uniform unless we can unload him in a trade. As for the Maggette deal, he is capable of playing defense and would help spread out the floor, like a perimeter player should. Korver struggled in the playoffs last year, Brewer and Kirilenko are not outside threats, and that is why the Laker defense looked so good. They only had to defend D-Will, Booze and Okur. They dared Brewer and AK to shoot from the outside, and we lost. Maggette, along with some more player development, could mean the difference. If we could sign him for 6-7 million a year, isn't going into the luxury threshhold worth a very strong chance at the title? 4 million extra for an NBA title...hmmmm...Ask Boston if it was worth it, Larry!!!

They signed hart and cj so they could either package them in a trade, or have them as the usual backups if the team doesn't end up with any free agent pickups or trades. if they let go of hart and couldnt find another point guard, we would be stuck with 2 point guards total, thats too risky. especially if dwill got injured or something like that, then we'd have price as our starting point guard and a shooting guard backing him up. plus they are dirt cheap to keep, it makes perfect sense that they would do what they did. calm down man.

First, Hart and Collins need to go to the D-Leauge and Almond and Fez need to be given some more time, especially Fez. He is younger and more athletic than the other centers and will make a good back-up for this year. Second, Jazz would be wise to go after Maggette. Unless they work out a trade though, they only have one selling factor for Maggette and that is D-Will. If Maggette believes that D-Will will help him take his game to the next level, that might be the only way he will sign with Utah for less money. Boston and Orlando can offer him chance at Rings just like Utah, but the have more to offer with location and $$$! The Jazz need to push the D-Will angle on free agents and hopefully they will get somebody like Maggette to sign for less green!

You can't send Hart and Collins to the D-League, Idaho Fan. It's for first and second year players. But I think you're right about the Jazz pushing the D-Will advantage. Someone like Maggette could be the thing that pushes the Jazz to the next level. Maybe.

The Jazz went after Maggette a few years ago. He didn't want to play in Utah then, he doesn't want to play in Utah now.

enough with the tall teenage centers. we need a tough center that will knock a fool out if he thinks he can have his way in the paint. you knock kobe around a few times and he wont come back. think lambeer-ish center. our whole team needs to take defensive lessons from the old pistons. "make your fouls count" should be the jazz marketing slogan next year.
really our team is good, just poorly managed. they play everyone the same and to their opponents level. they are timid and need to get roughed up so they start playing like men. current roster is ok except hart. and Collins needs to know his role; foul out every game. i love how gaurds box him out. losing to LA needs to mean something or we go nowhere. take losing personally and get better.

Maggette in Utah? Don't think so. Sloan is aware that he is a great shooter who can actually get his own shot and not someone(Korver) that you have to set up for a shot. This would throw the 2 plays the Jazz run all into confusion.

1-Maggette would come off the bench at the 3 not 2. The Jazz are looking at Maggette to replace Harpring not AK or Brewer or Korver.

2-Trade AK?! Are you stupid? Did you watch a single playoff game this year? Does anyone remember AK nearly single handedly turning the 20 point blow out against the Lakers into a stomach-able loss with 3 after 3 in the fourth quarter when Korver and Memo were afraid to shoot. AK is overpaid but HE not Maggette is the difference maker for championship team. AK is our Pippen not Maggette.

3-Why did the Jazz re-sign Hart? Hart picked up his option. The Jazz didn't resign him. Read a paper. He knows hes out in Utah so he picked up his option and now gets bought out AND gets a new contract elsewhere. Even if it is Turkey.

4-Trade Boozer! Why? Cuz he has a house in a different city... just like everyone else in the league. Shouldn't we fire Sloan then? He's never lived in Utah and hes been here 20 years! Trade him cuz he MAY opt out next year? So? Then we have big money to sign possibly the best free agent class in the past ten years.

5-Lastly anyone who thinks we should make a move at Biedrins is outside their mind! He is a Memo Okur who can't shoot.

Everyone is just bored so they want the Jazz to do something... anything. Even if it makes absolutely no sense. Bottom line is the Jazz don't have to make any moves to beat LA. No matter how good anyone was it was going to be LA and Boston. Everyone knows David Stern has been fixing games for years now and this year he got caught with his hands in his pants.

Keep AK, keep boozer, the jazz are going to be fine. now we have a couple of centers that can help out memo when he gets in foul trouble. We have paul to back up booz. The jazz can beat LA anytime now. Only thing we need to figure out is how to win in SA. Watch out west here come the jazz!!!

Some of the trades that have been suggested in the recent past and present are nothing short of ridiculous. First off unless a recent change has been made, all trades need to equate to within 75% of salaries for the traded players. In other words you can't trade Hart and Collins who make around 5 mil between them for someone that makes 10 or 12 million a year. There are also some other trade eligible matters that need to be met. So unless you know what your talking about you might just as well discuss these matters with your neighbors and forget your stupid posts.

I agree with the Village Idiot. Trading A.K. would be one of the stupidest things the Jazz could do. Why in the world would anyone want to trade one of the best off-the-ball defenders in the league? The Jazz already get burned defensively because teams know the lane is going to be open. Now people suggest trading the one respectable interior defender on the team? Give me a break.
+1 to keeping D-Will, Booze, A.K., and Memo. Everybody else is expendable. Trade all you can to get Maggette in a sign and trade if he's willing to come here.

Maggette would be great but it probably won't happen. It seems like the Jazz should have some interest in Mikael Pietrus of Golden State. They won't have to pay him too much, he can shoot the three, and he can DEFEND. Wouldn't that be interesting? A 2 guard that can do both.

Do any of you really beleive that Cory Maggette could play for Jerry Sloan??? That would never work; Maggette is an up and down the court player who jacks alot of questionable shots. The ONE AND ONLY way he ends up here is through a sign and trade involving AK.

Also, I have read a ton of posts saying get rid of Boozer because Millsap is ready. Do any of you watch the games?? Milsap can't play more than 20 minutes a game without fouling out. I like him, but not as a starter, he commits more totally useless fouls than any player in the league. So, combine his skills and production to his constant foul trouble and you have a nice 7th 8th man, but not more.

Here is the rumor. Trade Boozer and AK to Orlando for Dwight Howard and some other player. Money goes both ways. Jazz could then move Brewer into AK's place, Howard could take over for Boozer and would be in the finals.

Maggette is good, and he would help the Jazz fill
