Why lead with this... who cares? European soccer. Yawn. A few fans to be sure, but why pander?

Germany sure didn't do anything to win this game. What a disappointing game for their side.

The leading story should have been what? "Jazz first round pick has first breakfast in Utah" or maybe "BYU football coach gets new tie". No one is forcing you to like futbol, you have NASCAR, but if you find it so boring why did you read the article?

Why so anti soccer? Can't you just let people who like soccer be happy for one day every few years?

Spain has demonstrated that former championships results did little justice to this traditional football european top nation. They need to move on and keep up this great, superb way of playing... que viva Espana...!
Ole! Ole! Ole! Ole! | 10:31 a.m. June 30, 2008
I was flipping out in my living room when that goal was scored. Que Golazo!!! I was so happy it was Torres that scored it he deserved it. Hey Rock On I'd bet my house more people watched this than the NBA final or the world series. I know your a crappy sports fan so let me tell you an analogy you can understad. If this were the NFL this is like either the NFL/AFC title game or the BCS championship game. The only thing bigger is the world cup the biggest even in all of sports.

It was a great tournament and i'm glad I didn't have to work last month. On to South Africa, 2010.
Re: Ole | 12:20 p.m. June 30, 2008
I'm sure this game got good ratings world wide. But wait until the ratings come out for the U.S. I'd be willing to bet this got the same ratings as a WNBA game.
Re: re: Ole at 12:20 | 1:11 p.m. June 30, 2008
Lol....ok buddy, lets wait until the ratings come out. I think you'll find that there are many many soccer fans in the US that only follow Euro leagues.

Que viiiiiva Espaņa! Those words still echo after my MTC days. I am not a soccer fan either, but certainly the world's most popular sport deserves some lines in the News. I know how frustrating it is being in Europe and perhaps there is a small paragraph about the NBA but nothing else.
Imagine the US waiting 40 years for a title in a beloved sport, this is larger than huge. We Jazz fans may be holding out for whatever long for a title to give some more pride in our state but can you imagine holding out years for some additional pride on a national level.
As great as our country is, we cannot relate on a international level for the compassion for one sport that unites people in our country.
As for the sport itself, another predictable 1-0 score. Yes, that detail I admit is very boring. I think the sport needs to be tinkered with to make it more watchable. Baseball can be very boring also.

I didn't know NFL Europe was still around.

The facts speak for themselves: If soccer weren't getting good ratings in the U.S., ABC wouldn't be putting it on network TV in the middle of the day on a Sunday (which is traditionally a very good timeslot).

I haven't found much WNBA on network TV, minus the obligatory one-game-a-week that the NBA/WNBA brass require ABC to show as part of their NBA playoffs TV deal (yes, the WNBA thing is lumped in with the much more desireable NBA playoffs). All other WNBA games are banished to 4-digit channels in the nether reaches of the cable universe.

Face it: That tired old line doesn't work any more. Soccer is popular and growing in popularity by the day.
Re: Ratings | 2:58 p.m. June 30, 2008
Yeah, it's gaining popularity....that is why RSL is moving from a 45,000 seat stadium to a 20,000 seat stadium.
Re: Re: Ratings... | 4:18 p.m. June 30, 2008
..you obviously don't know why they are moving to a Soccer Specific Stadium, so you just assume its becuase of lack in popularity? Lol, you must be a very bright person.

Learn some facts...then post your silly comment.

Also, yes the score was 1-0, but it was such an entertaining game. A perect final, to an excellent tournament.
