The buildings on the east belong to the east. Building on the west belong to the west. Keep the incompetent superintendent his sidekicks and the rest of his employees on the west. Share the central office until the east builds its own. Allow the teachers to stay where they are at.

@Simple: what about the liabilities - there is >$300 million in debts to pay... and why would the west side keep a central office located on the east side?

Isn't it funny that the west side transition team claims "we're not at an impasse" that they temselves created? They are "suddenly" now ready to negotiate - what changed?!? They (3 of the 6 at least) have been unwilling to negotiate on anything since January, and now, suddently, they want to talk?!?

It's going to take "a couple of weeks" to get a letter with new ideas out? If there is really something of worth in what they're proposing, get it out now. Cease and desist with the delay, hinder, and obstruct paradigm.

Every day, week, and month the west side transition team delays only creates more work and less days, weeks, and months to make the transition smooth. The last thing we need for education is to be forced into knee-jerk reactions to real life problems simply because 3 people, up for re-election, only worked to obstruct, delay, and hinder the process rather than do their lawful job.

I'm confident that any reasonable proposal to the east will be ratified.

missed a word - each day the agreement is delayed created LESS time to get problems solved and make the transitions smooth! Time crunches rarely work in favorable ways....

Let the west keep the central office, it is falling apart anyway. Lets start with a new building that signifies a fresh classy start with new competent people who will look out for our kids interests.
Sour grapes | 6:27 p.m. June 29, 2008
Let's just let them rotate the office 6 weeks on and 3 weeks off just like they make the students do in year-round school.

The split may not even happen because the vote did not allow the west side residents to stay off the split.

Really is there any question why the eastside wanted its own district?

I am sure the west would have no problem agreeing to what was proposed in the feasibility study. The same study the east used to sell this to legislators and voters.
The east now says the study is wrong and they need hundreds of millions or "their taxes might go up." They lied to the voters and to the legislators and now they are trying to save face. They want to reduce their taxes on the backs of the west side children.
Until they made it an issue, there was not an East vs. West debate. The school board could just take care of children. Now it is "us vs. them" with the children suffering in the middle.

The east isn't saying the feasibility study was wrong. It was a small team of experts (two from the east side transition team and two from the west side transition team) that are experts in valuations/assessments that came to the conclusion that the feasibility studies cursory valutaions were in error and that the west side of the district currently has ~75% of all assets. They offered a good solution to the division of assets, but the west side transition team politicians vetoed their expert efforts.
How is it possible to "reduce their (east) taxes on the backs of west side children" when #1 - there just as many capital needs in the east district as in the west (but the west side/JSD board pretends don't exist), #2 - the west does not now, nor will it EVER pay as large a percentage of their income to educate their children as has been the historical norm throughout SL County for the last 150 years. They've been getting a free/nice ride and just don't want it to end.

Claiming the West has 75% of the assets is a flat out lie that needs to stop. I have come on how many times and slapped that down? The East and West have essentially the same number of buildings in operation-- a 50-50 of those types of physical assets. Each side has properties beyond that for future growth needs such as the three sites in Draper that were recently devalued that belong to the new East side District. The East has both office buildings as well.

The East has been devaluing their assets while inflating those on the West side. They have also been dragging their feet with the process being the ones who have left the table at each pass claiming the West were at fault. The East team needs to be rational and more importantly honest along with those who favored this split.
Flat out lies | 1:09 p.m. July 1, 2008
Mr. Jarvis - apparently you'd claim superior knowledge/experience/expertise than the four actual financial experts from the two transition teams (two from each side remember) that came to the 75%/25% valuation number. This number (AGAIN) came from BOTH sides. Four experts who, without doubt, have much more in the realm of experience in the subject matter than you. So, if you wish to stop spreading lies, start posting accurate data.
Both sides do have an equal number of schools, but to claim that all schools are equal (like the west side transistion team) is no different than to say you'd be just as happy with a '71 Chevy 440 C2500 as a 07 Chevy 350 C2500 and all the tech improvements/gas mileage/etc. that have occured in the last 25 years. They are NOT equivalent, although both eat gas, you can sit in them, and get from point A to point B.
