It has been an honor getting to know, over the past few months, Dr. Bennion, Superintendent McCandless, and the others on the East-side Education Transition Team as well as those on the Asset Transition Team. They are true professionals. Also, knowing those who are now serving on the school board, and being acquainted with many who were just elected, leaves me very optimistic that the new East-side Jordan School District will be very successful.

They are paying too much for the Superintendent. Like double! I thought one of the reasons why we split was to save money and streamline education? Does this mean we are going to have to cut things like Driver's ed in order to make ends meet?

I work in Granite School District which has the highest paid superintendent in Utah. Frankly, I wouldn't take that job for double the money. It's a target for every whining parent who thinks their child is a special case above everyone else.
And, the school board (made up of citizens) can ditch him in a heart beat when his contract expires.
But, "Concerned," you are right about one thing. Jordan district certainly should not be paying that much money -- for TWO superintendents!

What Sane Person... | 2:15 p.m. June 25, 2008
I questioned the sanity of anyone who accepts this job. The expectations of the east-side parents are so incredibly unrealistic. This Superintendent, I fear, will become the scapegoat for many an unmet promise.
Double the Price | 2:21 p.m. June 25, 2008
Two districts means twice the cost (in everything, including the high costs of two central offices). And....the cost of two school boards.
Make the finalists' public | 2:27 p.m. June 25, 2008
As an east-side parent, I hope our new school board will make the names of the finalists public. I think taxpayers have a right to know and to offer input on the person the the school board is considering hiring.
Only three? | 2:53 p.m. June 25, 2008
Amazing...at a salary of $195,000 per year, only three Utahns applied to be superintendent of the new school district?
That tells me either A...the salary is not high enough (unlikely); or B...no one who understands the job wants it (more likely). Who in their right mind would want the job of creating a new school district from the ground up while dealing with a grossly underfunded budget, state legilators who despise public education, meddling local politicians, and whining parents with unrealistic expectations?!!

incredible opportunity | 3:51 p.m. June 25, 2008
If I had the qualifications, I would love the job. What a chance to truly make a difference -- to create something from the ground up. There are so many possibilities. It is really an exciting opportunity.

Way way to much money to spend for that position. A M.D. does not make that much money. It is a PR job thats it the school board runs the show and the people under him or her do all the work.
